How to Get Really Rich!

Getting into the right job is the key.

One third of doctors including about 58.6 percent of surgeons, are in the top one percent of earners.

— David Brooks

Purest bollocks. If you’re an “earner” you’re not rich.

Rich people don’t “earn” money, they own stuff. Hell, these days really rich people don’t even own stuff, they just get to use and control it without every “owning” anything they might have to pay taxes on.

Pretty sure Bloomberg’s salary of $1 puts him in the bottom percentile of earners.

Doctors and surgeons do well, don’t get me wrong. But it’s a very well paid blue collar profession - we still trade time for money. If we aren’t doing work, we’re not making anything - that’s what ‘earning’ means. The truly wealthy get richer no matter what they’re doing, including in their sleep.

The question that must be asked and answered:

Who are the ringleaders and instigators of this domestic terrorism and why are they not under arrest.

We know Trump and members of Proud Boys and Oathkeepers are involved.
We know other members of Trumpworld are involved.

They instigated. They plotted. They planned the rally for 1/6 and to act against the government by insisting the insurrectionists storm the Capitol.

Reminds me of the last hotel I worked at, which underwent renovation in the first year I worked there as part of becoming a Starwood franchise hotel.

This is a beach resort town in VA, which has a strong relationship with the Navy and centuries of relations with fishing and trade.

The design theme that they ended up going with? Rustic mountain cabin with stone fireplace, reclaimed “barn” wood (dark-stained pallet wood), and wooden “clouds” hanging from the ceiling.

For comparison, Trump never got above 50% in any reputable poll at any point in the time he was in office or out of office. Biden never once has pointed to polls as proof of anything.

He’s trying to enact his agenda, and the Senate is taking up the relief bill this week. Any versioning differences will be reconciled and become law once Biden signs it. That should happen within next week/10 days.

From an admittedly brief study of the Griddy business model, it was basically a casino operation. They sold electricity to individual customers based on the spot market price which they gambled would always be under the “retail” price from other suppliers. Along comes a black swan event, the spot market price goes up by three orders of magnitude during shortages and blackouts and a collapse of the grid generators and Griddy doesn’t have any sort of a cushion or forward contracts to limit their exposure so they have to pass on the very high prices to their customers because they’ve contracted to pay the spot market price for the electricity they’re buying to resell.

Basically, if the deal looks too good then this worked example demonstrates why it might not actually be a good idea after all. See also the RobinHood stock trading website and the GameStop debacle of recent weeks.

I though the Orange Anus had actually gotten a case of COVID last October ( recall the BFD made of his “rush” to Walter Reed? And his subsequent joyride to wave to his fans?) - wouldn’t he have had some sort of immunity?

I think you’re off on timeline. He got COVID before the election. He was still in office this January (insurrection month) when he got the vaccine. There is no consensus on whether having had COVID provides immunity. And trump always does what he thinks is best for trump.

Aren’t we still in the “rounding up the snitches” phase?

Yes. There’s some of that, and I also get that there’s a need to create an airtight case against Trump because of the potential blowback of having a case to watch it fall apart under scrutiny.

And yet, prosecutors routinely go ahead with indictments in cases that have less proof than we have against Trump. Grand juries routinely return indictments with far less proof than here.

This is true. I am a well paid professional cat herder. My skills have been honed by over two decades of on the job training in technology. (Although law school comes in handy when I ask probing questions to make sure the support teams have considered all options.) But I have to work to make money, and I am planning for my future by funding a 401k, even though I also say that I am on the “work ‘til I drop plan.”

And rich people don’t have to worry about getting laid off or shuffled around because bean counters are cutting costs.

For argument’s sake, there’s numerous red state and local governments who purposefully make it damn near impossible to get or continue to receive UI payments because their ideology says that people who look for help don’t need it and those who need it don’t go looking for it because “pride.”

In Arizona, the maximum you can get for UI is $240 a week. Why yes, that’s less than the minimum wage. And my shitheel congressman pushed this garbage back when he was in the state legislature. So yeah, EVEN if you can get through the antiquated system used by UI, then you’re still gonna starve because ain’t nobody making it on less than $1000/month unless they’re living in a box under the freeway.

This is your area more than mine, but don’t they usually round up the small fry first? Building a case against the ringleaders would take longer (and likely require testimony from little guys with immunity). It’s only been weeks….

Depends on the situation and nature of the crimes. We’re in unprecedented times when it comes to this stuff since no one has been accused of inciting an armed insurrection against the US govt, let alone an occupant of the WH being the one inciting that insurrection so that he could stay in power beyond the statutory date.

Trump’s own statements and actions are sufficient for an indictment. What the DOJ needs to do is roll up everyone between Trump and those who carried out the actions on 1/6. That’s what they are doing and need to do faster.

Their job would have been easier had they actually arrested those coming out of the Capitol instead of letting them slink away unobstructed. I get why it might make sense to defuse the situation and arrest after with all the photo/video evidence that could be obtained from within the Capitol grounds, let alone the videos by the insurrectionists themselves. But by doing so, they also let key individuals escape and makes their arrest/capture harder/delayed.

Fox News Insiders Rage Against Hiring ‘Mini Goebbels’ Kayleigh McEnany

The addition of a known and frequent liar to the Fox News roster set off some alarms within a newsroom that has been “purged” in recent months in favor of right-wing opinion programming and content geared towards keeping a diehard MAGA audience satisfied.

“It’s truly disgusting they fired hard-working journalists who did care about facts and news reporting only to turn around and hire a mini-Goebbels whose incessant lies from the White House helped incite an insurrection on our democracy that got five people killed, including a police officer,” a Fox News insider raged to The Daily Beast. “Post-Trump Fox is quickly becoming a very scary place and quite dangerous for our democracy. It’s not even conservative news anymore. They’ve plunged into an alternate reality where extremist propaganda is the only course on the menu.”

Fox News did not respond when asked for comment.

The issue with so much house construction and remodeling is that designers want to put their mark on things, and that almost always means a “look”. Damn the other sense, damn the real function, it’s “style” that they are after.

I’m in the process of remodeling my kitchen / dining room / house flow. I’m using an architect. When I ask for suggestions she gives them, and if I go down a different path, she’s all “is your space and got taste”.

As you note, it should be about function and form, and if shouldn’t be about a designer’s ‘vision’. Which is the part of reason i didn’t go to a design studio and went architect. Plus, after she got involved, the ideas became much better.

The minimum wage isn’t going to $15 in one shot.

It’s going there over at least 4 years. That’s more than sufficient to allow the markets and workforce to absorb the changes.

The reality is that more people having more money at their disposal is a good thing and will do more to grow the economy than tax cuts focused on the 1%.

There’s far more people struggling with poverty and who’d benefit from living wages (or getting to a living wage) that this would help address.

Would this slow job growth? Not necessarily. The economic recovery can go hand in hand with minimum wage hikes as some states have upped their minimum wages as of January 1 of this year. A few are implementing hikes later this year, or are increasing annually as part of plan to get to $12 or $15. Several are increasing according to COLA adjustments. In all, more than half of the states are hiking minimum wages in 2021.

There never seems to be a good time to talk about raising the minimum wage.

If the economy is booming under a Republican presidency, we’re told not to talk about it because Repubs would take credit for it.

If the economy is busting under a Republican presidency, we’re told not to talk about it because we might scare business owners into supporting the Repubs in the next election.

If the economy is booming under a Democratic presidency, we’re told not to talk about it because we might spook the economy into a downturn.

And if the economy is busting under a Democratic presidency, we’re told not to talk about it because it might delay the recovery until after the next election.

A link I saw yesterday showed that there are about six on record as stating that they won’t remove the filibutster, and five that want to get rid of it. The rest either won’t comment or just support reforming it. I think the best reform should be the one where it gets replaced with a requirement that 41 have to actively block it.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is facing bipartisan criticism and a call for a federal investigation after the state set up invitation-only Covid-19 vaccination clinics in at least two upscale communities.

One prominent developer in two communities donated to DeSantis’ campaign — in amounts of $25,000 and $50,000 between 2018 and 2019 for a total of $125,000, according to campaign finance records.
The exclusive vaccine clinics allowed about 6,000 people to jump ahead of tens of thousands of seniors on waitlists in Manatee and Charlotte counties, where the drives happened.

Continuing the Alabama season of Wild Kingdom:

No kangaroo wrangler, here, but I think that guy is going to get the shit kicked out of him.

True story-
If you hold a skunk by its tail, it cannot spray you. (IMHE)

Untold part, entering and and exiting that state can be a bit… problematic…

To Enter:

To grab hold of a skunk by its tail, shining a flashlight in its eyes will blind the skunk enough to approach and grab it by the tail.

Caveat… This only works the first time it is tried.

Question… How will you know it is the first time this has been tried on this individual?
Answer… You find out.

To Exit:

Now that you have an highly displeased skunk upside down by its tail, how do you gracefully exit this situation?

Answer: Gently placing the skunk on the ground at your feet and expecting it to gratefully amble away is… unrealistic.

Damn, CNN was just reporting on a car accident that killed 15 people. Apparently there was a ford expedition with 27 people in it.

(CNN)An SUV packed with people and a semitruck hauling trailers of gravel slammed into each other in Imperial County, California, on Tuesday morning, leaving 15 dead and others hospitalized, officials said.

Overhead video of the scene shows the brutal aftermath of the crash, with the jack-knifed semitruck smashed into the left side of the SUV. Both vehicles came to a rest off the side of the road.

There were 27 passengers in the SUV during the crash, said Judy Cruz, the managing director of the Emergency Room Department at El Centro Regional Medical Center. She said 14 people were dead on the scene, and another person died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Other passengers are being treated at El Centro Regional Medical Center and at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in nearby Brawley.

Same here. I’ve eaten out a couple of times lately but to their credit the restaurants I’ve been to have been doing a very good job of keeping things clean, having servers wear masks and keeping tables well distanced from another. The current death toll and new cases is still at or above the summer high. We’re still not dropping below the peaks seen during the summer or the initial spike.

We’re still cleaning up the mess and economists say the problem isn’t going too big, but going too small.

I recall when Clinton proposed a tax plan that would increase taxes on high income earners; the Republicans screamed that the middle class would also see increases and that the economy would collapse. The plan passed without a single Republican vote and the GOP lies stuck with the voters, who voted Republicans in to control both the House and the Senate. Meanwhile the economy soared, the wealthy paid more in taxes, and eventually there was a budget surplus.

Did all that good news put the Democrats in power? No! Clinton did win re-election in 1996, but the GOP still was in charge of both houses of Congress and then won the White House in 2000. There were other factors, but don’t expect a grateful nation in 2022 even if the Democrats succeed in getting the Covid legislation passed. The GOP has a real talent at sabotaging Democratic initiatives and spreading misinformation to advance their cause. And, of course, their full time effort at voter suppression to wipe out gains Democrats made in swing states.

I witnessed an accident like this in Lubbock in 1979, except it was in the middle of town; in front of the courthouse in fact. A drunk in a pickup ran a stop sign doing about 70 mph in a 30 zone. He t-boned an old Ford Galaxie that was somehow carrying 14 people. T
e pickup driver and 10 people in the car were killed.

wtf is up with Joe? Hey, you’re a democrat in west virginia. you got reelected. you seriously think trump voters are gonna pull the lever for you because you are the big man on denying people a minimum wage increase, or more unemployment benefits? the weird thing is that he clearly is not a frustrated republican. if he were ben nighthorse campbell, for instance, he’d just change parties and be happy. obviously he has no wish to be a republican, so why play this game?

Maybe, and this may be a stretch, he actually believes what he is saying…

Yeah, but Greg’s running for a third term next year, so he probably figures that fewer voters being alive next November will help his bid.

Not sure that selectively killing his supporters is the smart play.

Damn, CNN was just reporting on a car accident that killed 15 people. Apparently there was a ford expedition with 27 people in it.
