The voting rights bill will die in the Senate, which will be a crushing disappointment. So the Democrats need to follow that up with a massive infrastructure bill, which can be passed through reconciliation and will be immensely popular.

Received my Starlink equipment today ($500 + $100/mo).

The dish has it’s own stand and currently is perched atop the horse trailer. Setup takes at 5 minutes. There is one power cord and the cord (cat-6) that runs to the dish. Connect the Starlink app on your phone to the WIFI receiver and you are up as soon as the dish aligns to find a satellite. I was impressed with the packaging and equipment. I connected my Google WIFI to the router without issue.

For me west of St. Louis (rural), I get download speeds from 5-50Mpbs with 50-100ms of latency. The only issue I see is that service drops out occasionally due to satellite availability. That could kill my Teams calls…I’ll find out tomorrow.

I cannot yet call it a win yet….but very promising.

National high-speed broadband should be part of the infrastructure bill.

“Fuck Those Dr. Seuss Books” and Other Proper Responses to the Fake “Cancel Culture” Bullshit, The Rude Pundit

In so many cases, “cancel culture” just means “Oh, shit, they caught us” to the people who got caught. And they’re pissed that now that they’re caught, they can’t just be white people who, say, casually use the n-word. Like, well, the Republican Party.

(Note: By the way, back in the late 1960s, Warner Brothers made sure that no one would see the ultra-racist cartoons they used to produce. So they got rid of the grotesque Black people, the hideous Asians, but, oddly, not Speedy Gonzales until recently. And now, no one even cares about them except out of perverse curiosity. We don’t think twice about it. If that happened now, the Proud Boys would be attacking Bugs Bunny.)

Yeah I was saying on the previous thread, fuck the Berenstain bears. I always hated those fuckers, but my kids would get those books out of the library and demand to be read from at bedtime.

And now my youngest daughter (who is 34 & expecting her 3rd child) tells me that she never liked them either.

So I’m “Why didn’t you say so?”

And she’s like “The other kids liked them. Then you stopped reading them when you got the Disney books.”

So I asked, “Do your kids like the Berenstain books?”

And she’s like “Oh hell no, I’m not bringing that shit into my house!”

A FB friend who is a retired high school English teacher was making a similar comparison (without the left/right confusion or reference to Biden), obviously trying to critique the decision to stop publication of a few books. It’s clear that the right gets their information from sources that all recite from the same hymnal and seldom venture out to see what the other side thinks. Of course, most of us here are similar in that we don’t want to waste our time reading the lies spewed by Fox et al. So we cannot appreciate the messages that are spewed out on a daily basis to a willing brainwashed audience.

A friend of mine[1] has been a serious collector of Warner Brothers Looney Toons cartoons for quite some time. He accumulated a lot of the old back catalogue on LaserDisc and early videotape before the folks controlling commercial releases got antsy about some of the content and pulled them from sale. Titles from WWII like “Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips” is just one fine example.

[1] There was a dress code at work, he had to wear a tie. He had a large collection of neckwear purchased from the Warner Brothers store, several of which required batteries for the built-in sound effects unit (“th- th- that’s all, folks!”) and one or two had moving parts.

He’s something of a folk hero there. The very first Speedy cartoon, ca. 1956, involved an impoverished band of border mice trying to raid a cheese factory on the other side. The factory was guarded by Sylvester the Cat. Speedy arrives, bamboozles the nefarious but incompetent Sylvester, and leads the band to success.

Seems rather topical now.

People often confuse Speedy with the Frito Bandito, a dirty uncouth advertising mascot who made his living stealing Fritos from good Anglo folk. Needless to say, the Bandito really was a racist stereotype.

Not an expert on him, but it seems to me that the gimmick about him was that

a) He spoke with an accent
b) He sprinkled a lot of nonsense Spanish into his dialogue
c) He was a speedster
d) He had wits as quick as his speed.

The only halfway objectionable thing was b), as everything else was decidedly non stereotypical.

And a big plus was that he NEVER fucked up the time stream (putting him way up on Barry Allen….)

I ordered this stationary bike and got it in the mail today: amazon.com

It weights about 35 pounds and supports up to 300 pounds. It has a knob for controlling the magnetic resistance. The handles come with a heart sensor and the display cycles through speed, distance, calories, and heart rate.

I had to put the seat, pedals, and handles/display together, which took about 30 minutes; the main part was already assembled.

I rode it for 30 minutes. It didn’t wobble at all. It’s not a Pelaton, but if you’re looking for an inexpensive, small exercise bike, it seems to be a pretty good choice.

Both Speedy and the Bandito were voiced by Mel Blanc, which may account for some of the confusion between the two (that and the passage of 50+ years).

The Frito Bandito attracted criticism almost immediately upon his introduction in 1967. Frito-Lay’s initial tone-deaf reaction was to drop his stubble and gold tooth and comb his hair.

I was five when Speedy went away, haven’t thought of the character since, and did not miss him, but the name drew up that memory. I’m surprised that was still in my brain fifty years later. I don’t have many early memories that I’m aware of. Even High School is pretty much a blur.

re: #81 Hecuba’s daughter

Why hasn’t Dominion served Trump yet?

Was he dumb enough to name them, rather than just saying “the voting machines?”

Speaking of the Postal Service, the mail is completely fuxxored.

I just got my February payment stub (due 2/28) for my car payment this week. And I autopay three weeks before it’s due. (Next payment going out on 3/5.) It’s a good thing I keep track of my payments and don’t wait for statements that take so long to get here.

This pisses me off.

Here’s one tweet listed here: boston.com
“REPORT: DOMINION DELETED 2.7 MILLION TRUMP VOTES NATIONWIDE. DATA ANALYSIS FINDS 221,000 PENNSYLVANIA VOTES SWITCHED FROM PRESIDENT TRUMP TO BIDEN. 941,000 TRUMP VOTES DELETED. STATES USING DOMINION VOTING SYSTEMS SWITCHED 435,000 VOTES FROM TRUMP TO BIDEN.” @ChanelRion @OANN

Trump mostly stuck to mail in ballot fraud. I doubt he ever mentioned Dominion in public, though I could be wrong.

Yeah, but he’s quoting someone else’s report here, so it would be difficult to sue him for that.

Isn’t this the same as the Mafia boss who orchestrates the crimes his minions commit but he escapes because they don’t have his orders on tape? Trump does repeatedly mention Dominion in his conversation with Raffensperger.

HOLY CRAP…serious streams crossing moment here for me.

I know who the guy is who publishes this crap. His name is Doug Wilson, and he runs a cult up in Moscow, Idaho. I can’t even begin to tell you this asshole’s history, but it’s LONG, includes, among other things, protecting child sexual predators, publishing books about how slavery is just cool beans and so on and so forth.

Currently Doug Wilson is losing his shit about his kids being arrested for vandalism last October in Moscow. He put out three “press releases” on Monday. I’ve connected the people who are reporting on the textbook to the people keeping an eye on Wilson. WOW…

Yes, but he never intended that conversation to be public.

Yes, but he never intended that conversation to be public.

But doesn’t that count as slander? Does it have to be public to be subject to penalties? If you lie about a company in private communications, would you not be liable to civil prosecution?

The problem is proving damages. Raffensperger knew Trump was lying, so Dominion suffered no damage.

I’m amazed at how far emulation has come. I have a Raspberry Pi with software that can emulate early PCs, consoles through Playstation and Dreamcast, and arcade games.

The ones I use the most are the PDP-10, Amiga, DOS & a couple of ones for Lisp Machines. Amazing what you can do on a PC or a Pi these days.

But it may lead Georgia to reject Dominion products in the future to avoid pushback from the national party.

Not Trump’s call to Raffensperger though. It’s primarily due to the lies of Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, who have been sued.

No surprise. Look back at the fear mongering that happened when if first became widely known. It wasn’t until Ryan White died from it that it wasn’t viewed more than simply that “F**” disease and God’s punishment.

If the floor has been waxed, socks are slippery.

Took a little glimpse at my R local FB group. Apparently Biden took down Dr. Seuss.

The Blaze told them that.

I’ll bring some other insanity from there soon, but just looking at it for a couple of minutes tonight was too much.
