Of course not. All good Christians are Republicans. The GOP is the Party of God. Why wouldn’t He be on their side? It will never, in their wildest dreams, occur to them to actually examine the faith they pretend to hold and spend some time in self-reflection to fix their serious mistakes in belief and understanding.

After years of claiming he was so rich he didn’t need anyone else’s money for his political campaigns, Donald Trump is officially asking small-dollar donors ― many of them lower income and older ― to send him cash, potentially hurting the Republican Party’s small-dollar program.

The request was tucked in near the end of his first public appearance since leaving the presidency Jan. 20, a 90-minute speech Sunday that largely recycled his oft-repeated lies about the November election and his record in office.

“There’s only one way to contribute to our efforts, to elect ‘America first’ Republican conservatives. And in turn, to make America great again. And that’s through Save America PAC and Donald J Trump dot com,” he told his Conservative Political Action Conference audience.

That money’s goin g into trump family salaries

HR1 doesn’t stop all the GOP chicanery or voter suppression efforts or even the voter ID rules currently in effect.

It just greatly slows the GOP efforts to suppress turnout and deny persons of color their access to the polls.

And that’s the rub. They know that they can’t win without voter suppression, so they’re going to pull out all the stops, and this might result in the end of the filibuster, which itself was a monument to voter suppression and denying persons of color their rights.

Trump’s such a self made billionaire that he quickly realized that it’s better to have other people spend their money to give him power than to spend it on himself (especially since he’s cash poor). So, he has been a guy soliciting donations from guys who make less in a year that he makes in a week (supposedly).

Well, I’d rather see a single national ID that can have ID, Passport, permits such as drivers & CCW & hunting & state/national park entry & etc, perhaps even a copy of your medical records as well as being required for voting. Free of course and the first one issued, say, when you get your learners permit.

Could even make it be your debit card.

Still, the story of fry bread and Native Americans is a complicated one at best. For those who aren’t aware of it, it was created “in 1864 using the flour, sugar, salt and lard that was given to them by the United States government when the Navajo, who were living in Arizona, were forced to make the 300-mile journey known as the “Long Walk” and relocate to Bosque Redondo, New Mexico, onto land that could not easily support their traditional staples of vegetables and beans; New Mexican cuisine style sopapillas also share this origin due to Pueblos and Hispanos of New Mexico having a similar subsistence at this time.[1][2] Boarding schools also helped to spread frybread in Native American diets.[3]”

It’s a symbol of colonialism, repression and, paradoxically, of overcoming those and perseverance, ingenuity and resilience despite the white attempts at genocide.

Fry Bread

And the forcible change in diets due to ethnic cleansing has lead to increased rates of Diabetes due to a change from a sustainable, reasonably healthy diet to one loaded in the cheapest carbs.

There are genuine concerns that a volcano close to Reykjavik could be ready to blow as well. I swear that the formula for this is something like:

Person grew up with a set of conditions that they view as “normal” and therefore “right” and have spent their entire lives refusing to examine why the world (for an particular experiential slice of space/context/moment) is what it is in systemic terms and therefore…

…the very idea of time creating change is offensive.

Pair this with how many people don’t understand that money is an abstraction of value, and value is complicated index of actual needs and perceived needs/wants, and there are a lot of people who view forces like inflation as failures in the moral character.

“Murkowski is unique, however, and so is her home of Alaska. The state is suffering economically, the pandemic has exacerbated the state’s woes, and she’s complained repeatedly that Biden’s less fossil fuel-friendly energy policies are hurting Alaskans. Moreover, her state changed its primary system recently to dilute the possibility of a conservative or Trump-inspired challenger, giving her room to legislate from the middle.”

Well, I’d rather see a single national ID

I try to explain the immigration and electoral system to Germans and they cannot grasp the nuances: Here everyone has an ID for citizens and one for legal residents and a registered address.

You need to present that ID and registered address to sign a lease or employment contract, open a bank account, enroll children in school, apply for social services, etc.

And wherever you are registered (as a citizen) you are automatically on the voter rolls, you just have to show up with your ID and vote and that is that, they check you off the list.

When I explain the patchwork system of ID that we have in the USA and the fact that once you make it into the country undocumented you can just blend into an immigrant community, they are dumbfounded at how any modern nation could allow such “chaos”…

It goes back to the idea that a citizen should not need papers to be in her own country. An idea I mostly agree with.

I lament the loss of the good ol’ days, when I could go to Tijuana, then walk back across the border, and just tell the border agents that I was a US citizen, and they let me walk in. (Of course I’m a white guy with good English, so why should they have doubted me????)

140
Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Mar 4, 2021 • 2:45:59pm

We should remind ourselves that what McConnell has been doing all this time is what Senators have done since the beginning.

It was always about a good ol’ (white) boys club, from the beginning. It was imbued with power over the rest of the government and set up so the club would keep putting their own in it. It’s like the Lords in the UK, only worse, because the US Senate has more power.

If we were all one homogenous race, culture and language, that would be less of an issue.

And back in the days of small towns and close communities they did not need to check your ID at the polling place, the registrar probably recognized you or knew you personally.

And our borders were not as porous back then and there were not millions and millions of undocumented aliens living in our communities.

NJ Man Carved QAnon Hashtag At America’s Stonehenge: NH Cops

SALEM, NH — A four-month investigation into who damaged a New Hampshire landmark with carvings into a 4,000-year-old stone tablet, including a hashtag frequently promoted by QAnon supporters on Twitter, have led to an arrest, according to police and court documents.

Mark Russo, 50, of Kings Highway in Swedesboro, New Jersey, was arrested on Monday on a single felony criminal mischief charge.

According to police, an officer was sent to America’s Stonehenge on Haverhill Road in Salem for a vandalism report on Sept. 29, 2019. When the officer arrived, he spoke to the owner of the property who reported discovering “an unusual wooden cross with several pictures and drawings, suspended from two trees,” near the main archaeological site. The property owner canvassed the area and also discovered “significant damage” to the main site’s stone sacrificial tablet.

“The stone table was carved with ‘WWG1WGA’ and ‘IAMMARK,’” the officer wrote. “(The owner) stated that this tablet was approximately 4,000 years old.”

Photos, the officer noted, were also tacked to the cross. One was of a young boy; another was of two men. A third, smaller photo featured a man, too. There were also two sketched drawings attached to the cross. The sketches, the officer wrote, appeared to depict the crucifixion.

The Mexican-American war was in the 1840’s, even the Pancho Villa border skirmishes were more than a hundred years ago. And the last time we had armed hostilities with Canada was more than 200 years ago. US and Canada is the longest undefended border in the world.

Shrug. If I had my way, I’d abolish both the Space Farce and the Air Force. Give Tactical air and transport back to the army, strategic forces and space operations to the Navy. The separate air force was a good experiment to try; the time has come to admit it was a failure and make the zoomies work for a living.

I also think we need to mothball half of our carrier force as well. The money saved is far better used elsewhere and we’d STILL be larger than everyone else’s carrier forces combined.

But that’s why they don’t want former enlisted as SecDef.

Given the nature of the jobs to fulfill the mission, there probably shouldn’t be any E1-E5 in the Space Force anyway. If they need peon labor, just assign some AF newbies to a Space Force outfit.

In fact, the whole Space Force thing really should be a joint command anyway. Putting it under the Sec of the Air Force is just a way for the Pentagon to pad billets under that office.

Actually, about 150 years or so. There’s a weird bit of US history that’s not taught in schools much, cross-border raids by armed Fenian gangs based in New York state into Canada in the 1870s. Britain basically said “Nice White House (built by slaves) you got there, shame if it was to catch fire again”, the US government stepped in and the raids stopped.

A few of my great-great uncles were involved in that; first raids began in April 1866.

A brevet Brigadier of my rare family name was one of the two commanders of the largest raid. They did not cover themselves with glory, but did beat the rap. Backwoods Sleuth is related to them.

Not particularly happy with any of them. If they went with line 2 I think they would need to alter the color to contrast with the USAF

it’s not a rocket, it’s a ‘Delta’ and the ‘ring’ is a satellite circling the planet.
I think they should skip the planet though, and use the Delta in place of the roundel used by the USAF

The Fenian Raids in 1866 actually provided some major mental health relief to the American public still reeling from the Civil War.

Long story short: judges in Buffalo pretty much slapped wrists and sent the raiders home with some pocket change for travel.

Biedermann’s chief of staff, Karin Dyer, responded to the request in late January claiming the office had nothing responsive to release.

After the Defenders challenged the claim that Biedermann had not received or sent any emails during those 30-plus days, Dyer responded that it is not the office’s policy to disclose information that is confidential by law.”

Interesting detail on the Fenian raids: By 1866-1870, the leaders were commanding Irish ex—Union and ex-Confederate soldiers dressed in blue, gray, and mufti. The passions of the times were more complex and more flexible than it might seem.

Also, the northernmost battle of the Civil War, Confederate sympathizers from Canada raided the town of St. Albans, Vermont.

The last Confederate general to surrender was a Cherokee who had spent the war mostly fighting Union Cherokees. The white man’s war was just a way to provide improved logistics for a long-running internal feud. The treaty with the black slaveholding Cherokees included the actual “last” emancipation, a couple years after Appomattox.

Whoa. That’s spooky. Once a student wanted to introduce me to an anime she liked but the disk wasn’t the anime, it was Suicide Club. Almost too over-the-top satire, but we were saved because my wife is a big fan of Rolly Teranishi, who had a small role.

Just throwing this out here: The media craved access to the Trump White House, and aired its press briefings, because they knew it was a real-life shit show that people had to watch. Nobody wants to watch plain old ordinary boring government - functional government - in action. There’s no ratings in it. I don’t think it’s necessarily a pro-Trump bent, but that it doesn’t pay the bills to air Jenn Psaki and try in vain to both-siderize whatever mistakes she might make.

I admit, working from home, I have not kept caffeine that is an acceptably consumable fashion here at the house very often. It’s part of my attempts to keep my blood pressure down and keep weight off, but my cow-orkers may not be appreciative of my efforts.

I make myself 20oz of coffee each morning. I’ve got two blends I choose between. I have this great blend from an Albany NY area coffee joint: Uncommon Grounds monsoon malabar, which is a low acid (naturally occurring) dark blend. Trader Joe’s also makes a low acid French roast.

I get my caffeine and morning boost, without any discomfort.
