It’s too soon for Indiana to drop the mask mandate, but Governor Holcomb is about to get primaried if he doesn’t appease the vast unwashed soon.

My first gun was a BB gun. My second was a 16-gauge pump-action 870 Wingmaster bird gun, which was a great shooting gun and nearly indestructible.

I have my grandfather’s BB gun sitting across the top of the piano behind me in my home office. I don’t own my own gun; the first real gun I shot was my dad’s Marlin .22LR semi-auto that has an annoying tendency to jam. I’ve fired several different shotguns, his .40 S&W pistol, and his Remington .30-06 bolt-action. My favorite was probably my old neighbor’s dad’s 12-gauge over-under hunting shotgun.

So barring any court intervention, Georgia is pretty much by law going to stay dark red for the rest of our lifetimes, isn’t it? They’re just going to fucking tear away any semblance of democracy and jump straight to total ethnocracy.

My first gun was the .22 bolt action in the house. I also occasionally used the 12 gauge pump (Sears House Branded) too. After I got out of the army, the first gun I bought myself was a Colt Trooper MkIII that I soon repented of and have stuck pretty much only with S&W revolvers since. Since then I buy and sell them as I can afford them, not quite as often as I’ve bought and sold cameras :) but not by much.

Funny story, that - my dad was complaining about this when he was here visiting from fish country. It was in relation to the state mandating that counties couldn’t override them with respect to wind turbine placement regulations. I agreed with him wholeheartedly, and made a comparison to the COVID regulations in Texas. It got uncomfortably quiet.

They are all for local control until the locals do something they don’t like, such as ban plastic bags or sidewalk sign twirlers, then it’s all statewide mandates. Arizona is especially bad for this particular hypocrisy.

At this point, I’m half surprised a GOP state hasn’t attempted to simply declare the Democratic party illegal under some bullshit statute. I’m pretty goddamn sure the SCOTUS at this point could find a 5-4 majority to support outlawing the Democratic party if its written in genteel enough terms.

If you want people to work seriously to do something, forbid it and insult them in the process. Stacy Abrams almost got in even under the old rules, and people who supported her weren’t as pissed off then as they are now. And Georgia only has to go blue once to sweep all of this away.

I don’t have a gun. I don’t need a gun. I don’t want a gun. It takes time and effort to own and operate one safely. I have no interest in adding gun-related tasks to my calendar, nestled alongside “discharge/charge backup battery” and “defrost freezer.”

I think there’s a rule about doing business at or near polling places, so you know that would be applied to this. I am so pissed about this. And if fucking Republicans are so worried about bribes in the form of bottled water, all they have to do is get more voting machines and polling places up and running.

The state rep arrested tonight showed Kemp being a coward as usual. Instead of signing the bill in front of witnesses, he had a camera in his office at the Capitol with the door closed to everyone else.

At least we know what they are up to and can prepare voters for lines, encourage absentee ballots and help getting those ballots turned in on time, get people registered and to the polls if they can’t send a ballot in or drop it off, etc. There is going to be a fight every damned election for the foreseeable future, until we can restore some sanity to the state legislature. There will be lots of bruises along the way. Because Republicans.

I have No $%$#@%$ side effects. Almost worried that I didn’t get the real shot. It’s been 8 hours so should be OK.

Went for a 5 mile walk afterwards. I’m still sore for the walk, but feeling better.

At least 111 people died from the winter storm that hit Texas in February

The number of people reported dead in the aftermath of winter storms that pummeled Texas in February now stands at 111, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

The agency reported the statewide total Thursday in its weekly report of winter storm-related deaths.

The deaths included in the Thursday report occurred between February 11 and March 5 and the majority of deaths reported to DSHS were associated with hypothermia, the agency said.
“There have also been multiple deaths caused by motor vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning, medical equipment failure, exacerbation of chronic illness, lack of home oxygen, falls, and fire,” the report read.

If this last election has proven anything, it’s shown that the determination and cleverness of voting rights groups will get us through this clusterfuck. There are going to be legal challenges to this bullshit and maybe we can at least get some shit put on hold til it’s sorted out. The crap about the legislature being allowed to just decide what votes are legit and what ones aren’t is bullshit.

I think the people responsible need to be exposed and pursued and questioned when they show up anywhere about why they hate democracy. Calls need to be flooding offices of Republicans statewide. They need to be replaced and sadly, I am not sure there are enough strong and good Dems here to challenge all these fuck biscuits.

“Look what you made me do.”

They already picked a fascist for President. We voted his fat disgusting ass out. We’re treating them like criminals because - news flash - THEY ARE. To a man, every goddamn one of them, guilty of some kind of crime: Insurrection, racism, sexism, theft, misappropriation of funds, conspiracy, crimes against humanity.

And there are 74 million Americans who are fine with that. Worse than that, thanks to the EC, they can lose the popular vote by a landslide and still win the election.

And yes, I’m aware that racism and sexism aren’t, in and of themselves, crimes. However, doing many things while under the influence of racism and sexism is a crime, so I’m counting that, because it is a certainty that many of the policies that the GOP is putting in place come about from racist or sexist intent.

A very good technical overview of what happened to the Texas power grid in February by an engineer with no political axe to grind.

TL:DR; the ERCOT authorities saw it coming a week ahead based on the weather forecasts but they were helpless to prevent the rolling blackouts and load shedding, mostly due to underinvestment and lack of planning for widespread and severe cold weather in the area. The scary part is how close Texas came to total grid collapse and no grid power at all across the state (10:45 in the video).

Dude is supposed to get his first shot tomorrow (Pfizer) but it’s a difficult walk from the parking lot to the center. Not sure it’s going to happen. Dude has serious mobility issues.

Here’s the thing. Why, when we do the health survey to sign up for the vax, do we not get a question about mobility? Wouldn’t that weed out the places that make you walk?

Dude is frantic to get the vaccine, but has absolutely been stressing out about this for the week since he signed up.

They want that vaccine likes Babists want that liquor:

They are incapable of recognizing any one they know in the vicinity of a liquor store, and, unlike the heathen Catholics, drink cocktails on the *back* porch.

If you get there a little early you might be able to find someone to help. Maybe with a wheelchair?

Most places will have a wheelchair in case someone gets wobbly after an injection. No reason you can’t use it going in.

Vax Centers here have handicapped drop-off and wheelchair access. Drive out and have a look. If it looks like it’s too much of a hassle, go home and call your Primary Physician and demand some help.

It really is part of their job (and ADA Law!) to help.

Meanwhile in liberal Minnesota:

MN Supreme Court: It’s Not Rape If Unconscious Woman Drank Voluntarily (Wonkette)

Today in “What the — how is this even a thing?” The Minnesota Supreme Court has granted a retrial for a man convicted of raping an unconscious woman because her own actions — drinking and taking a prescription narcotic — were what led to her being unconscious. Minnesota’s state constitution, they say, does not consider victims “mentally incapacitated” if they are voluntarily inebriated. It only counts if they are forced to get drunk or take pills against their will.

According to court documents, in May 2017, a woman identified only by the initials J.S. “was intoxicated after drinking alcohol and taking a prescription narcotic.” She and a friend were denied entry into a bar due to how intoxicated they were, at which point they were approached by one Francios Momolu Khalil, who invited them to come to a party with him. There was, however, no party — just Khalil’s own house. J.S. passed out on his couch and woke up to find him raping her. Or, as those court documents put it, “penetrating her vagina with his penis.”

Likely! The lack of imminent threat of death by flood, tornado, hurricane, fire ants, West Nile virus, and Killer Bees, along with its perfectly lovely weather the vast majority of the year, puts San Diego in a position where Gawwd is not commonly invoked for rescue.

If someone accompanies Dude that someone can walk across the parking lot to the center while Dude remains in the car. Once at the center the companion can explain the circumstances and I think they may figure a way to get Dude his shot.
