They ate incredibly short sighted. It’s like there is no actual thinking, planning, or considering going on. They are so focused on the news cycle that life has become nothing more than an unrelated series of images and noises to them. That’s why they don’t give a shit about the future. It’s all the immediate now for them. Quite a change from the actual conservatives from decades long past. Serious people with serious ideas, even if a lot of them were wrong.

Q, Alex Jones, and related conspiracy theories about abuse and trafficking do not exist to help real people or resolve real issues.

They exist to:

1. Make the invested feel smarter than other people because they possess the gnosis of conspiracy framing.

2. Allow the invested to feel they are moral while doing nothing moral, but also to view others as their moral inferiors.

3. Provide a moralistic frame that justifies a prurient fixation on both sadism and non-consenting sex—first in the “concerned” cataloging of imagined crimes, and then in the fantasies of retaliation.

….and that’s it. 50% C S Lewis worrying about the impulse to believe terrible things about others to feel good by comparison, 50% Der Sturmer publishing pornography as true accounts of moral outrage.

Actual cases of abuse and trafficking, and data about how abuse tends to happen, are actually an impediment to the intended function of these conspiracy theories, so they are either denied or strip-mined to find salacious details that are reincorporated into the shared

Iowa Democrat drops attempt to contest House race, citing ‘toxic campaign of political disinformation’

Democrat Rita Hart has dropped her challenge in the Iowa 2nd Congressional race, asking the House to no longer consider an investigation into the outcome of her race against Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks following intense Republican pushback.

In a statement released Wednesday, Hart said she decided to inform the House Administration Committee to no longer investigate her case after having numerous conversations with people about the future of the investigation.

“Since Election Day, and throughout this entire process, my mission has been about ensuring the voices of Iowans who followed the law are not silenced,” she wrote. “I am saddened that some Iowans’ votes will not count through no fault of their own. The work of ensuring it does not happen again will continue beyond this campaign.”

Daughter-in-law got her first shot yesterday. Son-in-law gets his first on Monday. Now, as soon as my son gets his we’ll be done. He’s eligible in 2 weeks, though he may not be first in line because he is truly phobic about needles, but he’s a grown up and he’ll get it. Also, he has a wife and sister who will not leave him alone until he is vaccinated.

He will feel it. He has described feeling vaccines spreading in his arm. Mr. C. feels it that way too, but isn’t phobic about it. If I concentrate on it, occasionally I can feel that sensation, but it doesn’t bother me. With my poor son, he really does have a phobia, so he doesn’t get flu shots, but he will grit his teeth and do what needs to be done when it’s really important. I just feel for him.

I do the same, but not because I am afraid of needles or of blood - I have an extremely low pain tolerance, which is helped if I don’t know when it’s actually going in. Tensing up as the prick approaches doesn’t help it go any better.

I have a friend in Ohio who got a lollipop (along with everyone else) I did not get one here in CA and I feel cheated.

I felt my shots too. They use looooong needles. But very thin, which helps.

Every EVA operation carried out today on the ISS and on most of the previous Shuttle EVAs has been a two-man mission, in part because two people can do more work in less than half the time of a single EVA specialist and in part for safety reasons if something goes wrong with one of the operators or their suits. That has been at least one three-man EVA operation on the Shuttle as well.

The non-MMU suits provide greater endurance per EVA, some of which can stretch to six or seven hours whereas the MMU suit was much more limited in stores capacity, never mind the extra mass required for the flight system and concurrent fuel load. It was a really neat skiffy idea but not practical enough to be used regularly, sadly.

Midwestern Pet Foods issued a voluntary recall this week of several brands of dog and cat food over salmonella concerns.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the recall in a statement last week that the 10 brands potentially impacted are CanineX, Earthborn Holistic, Venture, Unrefined, Sportmix Wholesomes, Pro Pac, Pro Pac Ultimates, Sportstrail, Sportmix and Meridian.

The recall is for products manufactured at the pet food maker’s Monmouth, Ill., facility. Pet owners can check the FDA announcement to see if their product has an expiration date or lot code cited in the recall.

The first thing I do with a new device is turn off autocorrect. I can look at the little dotted red lines and make my own decision, thank you very much.

Speaking of fry pies, the absolute best and you can try to fight me but you will lose, is Hubig Pies.

They haven’t been made in nearly a decade due to a fire destroying their factory and infighting in the family, but there’s new hope. A factory is nearly built, they are going to use the original recipes, and every thing is moving forward.

Hopefully we will have pies within the next few months. They were shooting for 2020, but then the damn plague hit.

New Orleans fry pies. They only use local in season fruit, they don’t fill them full of preservatives, so they need to be eaten within a week after they’re baked.

I have a deep love for the pies, because we stumbled upon them on our epic road trip in 2009. They had blueberry at the time, I bought one at a seedy as hell gas station. Oh my the deliciousness. I had a friend send me boxes of them after that!

Long Lines at Disneyland are ride-suppression. If a line is too long I wont do it. I haven’t been able to ride that damn Radiator Springs Racers ride at Disney California Adventure since the time I was lied to about the line length and it was TWO HOURS long.

If the lines are too long it means less rides per visit. People who had Annual Passes back before COVID ruined all that, it didn’t matter because they could come whenever they wanted, sometimes skipping rides altogether on some trips. A family from out of state stopping there for 1 day on a cross country trip doesn’t have that luxury.

Just as a person who’s independently wealthy or someone with a white collar job that can take off time whenever they want might not care about a long line to vote, someone who has to try to squeeze it in before or after work or on a lunch break… they might not get to.

I just found out that my niece had Covid. Mild symptoms, recovered. I also found out that this couple that have always been friends of my mom (and my deceased dad) got Covid and nearly died. They are still recovering after months of being gravely ill. They just “graduated” to a day nurse at their home instead of a 24 hour nurse.

I think their struggle with Covid is the first time my mother took it seriously.

I’ve known that couple my whole life and I adore them. I’m glad they are doing better, but it’s terrible that they’ve gone through it and continue to go through it.

Yesterday the committee marking up the state medical cannabis bill voted it out to the floor of the Unicameral for debate.

One Republican amended the bill to only allow it to be used for eleven conditions, rather than the original bill Sen. Wishart proposed allowing a physician to prescribe it any way he or she deemed fit.

The argument for that was, “If we don’t impose bumpers on this, then a referendum might go on the next ballot like they did in South Dakota, and then we wouldn’t be able to regulate cannabis at all.”

Apparently, there’s absolutely no regulations on cannabis in places like Colorado or Michigan.
