“passover celebrates that harrowing last night of the Jews, before they fled Egypt, eating hastily prepared meals consisting of, for instance, challah, an enriched yeast bread, with lots of eggs, because nothing signifies a hasty flight like something that has to spend hours proofing and requires someone to take a break from packing to wander down to the market to buy 12 dozen chicken eggs.”

WTF?
J-Rube ought to know: she’s been part of that “media” long enough - they actually ARE “hardwired” for “Republican” as the default “normal” setting for political reporting (as many media critics have argued for several decades, and most media apologists have tried to obfuscate for just as long). Now that wiring is being short-circuited by reality, and they are having trouble dealing with it.
But not to worry: the Post and the NYT can always send a reporter or two out to Mudbucket, Iowa to see what Cletus and Bubba down at the local diner think…..

I should have included this from the article:

… Senior party leaders and Democratic National Committee members are privately exploring the idea of pushing South Carolina and Nevada to the front of the primary election schedule, as well as the possibility of multiple states holding the first nominating contest on the same day…

“I don’t think it’s appropriate to have those two states to set the tone. It’s really a false premise that if you do well in Iowa and New Hampshire you’re going to do well across the country. That was proven wrong with Joe Biden,” Reid said in an interview. “There’s no diversity in Iowa. There’s certainly no diversity in New Hampshire.”

Interviews with more than a dozen Democratic leaders, DNC members and state party officials reveal that intense behind-the-scenes jockeying is already underway, with conversations ranging from reconfiguring the early state order to moving up Southern or Rust Belt states in the timeline…

Unlike the Republicans who passed the law, I’m sure Delta was aware of the potential consequences of their actions. We have been seeing a massive surge of companies doing the right thing politically over the last decade or so. That tells me that money sees which side is going to win, and that gives me hope.

Exactly. Corporate America is abandoning the GOP. It has actually been an uncomfortable, though usually profitable, partnership for a long time. A lot of corporate types are acutely aware of the historic divide between themselves and the smaller businesses and more localized interests that make up the true Republican base, ie the “high hats” vs. “the cowboys,” or “Wall Street” vs. “Main Street.” The split has been a very long time coming, since this division has existed since the early 19th century, but modern developments, especially globalization, have brought new stresses. Many corporate CEOs also see chaos and even a danger of general collapse in the GOP’s headlong plunge into conspiracist insanity and evangelical superstition.

It was entirely predictable from day 1. Trump was never going to produce a policy or anything beyond vaporware and empty platitudes because he had no interest in doing any of that - that required not only work on his part, but staffers who knew what they were doing.

None did.

Biden has a robust policy shop helping him with the ideas, working with members in Congress to draft his legislation, and then getting them to done is final lift.

Trump even had benefit of GOP control in House and Senate and he couldn’t do anything beyond tax cuts (TCJA) that he rubber stamped and had no clue about the specifics within the bill itself.

It will be 88 here by next week, but it’ll be a dry heat.

I remember being at Ft Huachuca in southern Az in July. The temp was way over 100 but it was so dry that I could watch thunderstorms pouring rain overhead and not a drop would hit the ground. That’s my idea of dry heat and I enjoyed it. My joints delighted in it.

Mom knew how to doctor up Chef Boyardee Pizza Kits. She’s spread the sauce then would use a mandolin to shred onions and green peppers on top of the sauce and then finish off with pitting thin sliced mozzarella on top of the veggies.

When it came out of the oven, Mom sprinkled oregano on top. Mom said that Chef Boyardee needed to take cooking lessons from Chef MOMardee!

mandolin shredding. I would think the double strings would make that difficult, but I never had the patience for one anyway. I thought they sounded like shitty ukuleles, and ukuleles sound shitty enough to me.

Matzah is supposed to be crunchy and crispy. All the matzah that we have for the rest of the holiday is like chewy cardboard. Thanks, Florida humidity!

My great uncle Gene would put silicon packets in Premium Saltine tins to keep the humidity from messing with his crispy crackers.

Y’all remember when Trump would tout every stock market increase as though he was personally responsible and then ignore the market collapses. Well, we have a guy in the WH who isn’t paying attention to the market and well, it’s doing better than under his predecessor(s).

The stock market isn’t the entire economy, which is still doing poorly thanks to Trump wrecking it as part of his pandemic failures. The markets seem to like Biden’s approach though, and that has value - like proposing infrastructure spending that will ultimately improve efficiencies nationwide.

The market doesn’t much care how liquidity enters the economy. Trump’s tax cut dumped about 1.9 trillion of liquidity in to the economy, Biden’s infrastructure bill will dump about 2.3 trillion. Either way the market knows a lot of that cash is coming it’s way one way or another.

I’m just down the road from Fort Huachuca. The monsoons have been drying up the last fifteen years. We used to get daily thunderstorms and now we are lucky if they are once a week.

fwiw what’s pictured is not a ‘submarine’
it’s a dpv - dive propulsion vehicle

and to call it james bond style. sure i get the pop reference.
but it’s like calling my 2015 nissan a henry ford style car

so their headline is total clickbait
which they sort of correct in the first line of the story:

The James Bond-style gadget prosecutors say a Canadian man used to smuggle drugs and money across the Detroit River is closer to an underwater jet ski than a submarine.

Society didn’t work too well without housing and pipes, you know, the stuff that underpins it all. Infra!
