Climate change denial was the Covid denial of the 90’s and aughtsies and tensies…all about ideology and posturing.

And the same arguments: a liberal hoax to rob us of our freedoms and gain control of the world economy, etc…

Free Speech Union’s Emma Webb says banning taking the knee for BLM at the Tokyo Olympics is the right decision. “The majority of people support banning taking the knee. It is divisive and doesn’t have much to do with kicking racism out of sport.”

Bow to the tyranny of the perceived majority.

At her confirmation hearing, Barrett refused to answer questions about whether she would recuse in the case, which was then pending before the court, but had not been granted review. At the time, she said it would “not be appropriate for me as a judicial nominee to offer an opinion about such abstract issues or hypotheticals.”

But after she was confirmed, the court agreed to review the case, and there was no indication of a Barrett recusal.

The case, which is to be argued next week, was brought by the Americans for Prosperity Foundation, created by the conservative Koch brothers. It challenges a California law, similar to those in other states, that requires tax-exempt nonprofits to attach to their state tax filing an IRS form that discloses the identity of their large donors. The foundation is seeking a broad constitutional ruling that would keep its donor identities secret.

Best comment so far re the Rs infrastructure “proposal”

Senate Republican and Little Lady visit a car dealership, offer a little more than a quarter the asking price. S.R. sits back smugly in his chair.

“Ooo, I’ll have to ask the manager about that. Here’s an iPad running a video presentation on undercoating and finish protection. Be right back. “

This might become a problem, but to the military, it’s Somebody Else’s Problem:

I did a fair number of helicopter and even C-130 movements considering I was just a leg infantry scout in the Guard. But I give thanks I never was on one of those monstrosities.

I swear it is a running battle between the Striker, the V-22 and the F-35 to see which is the more worthless POS foisted upon the military.

I know it’s unrealistic, but I’d like to see Biden or the Congressional Democrats fire back with something like this: “We have reviewed the GOP proposal, and it is the usual worthless bad-faith garbage. Therefore Republicans are cordially invited to stuff their garbage back up their asses.”

If you like Moleskine, go to their official site because they’re having a really handy sale. It’s a bit like Charles Tyrwhitt: what you want may not be available with your options, but while sapphire blue isn’t my absolutely first choice for extra large plain notebooks (with the 192 pages, not those shitty thin little brown-covered ones), for slightly less than 80 bucks, I snagged 6, with free shipping and no tax. And before you say, “You spent 80 bucks on notebooks?”, you need to be a Moleskine user to appreciate why that’s worthwhile. Best damned notebooks made. The reporter’s flip notebooks are damned good as well. I prefer plain notebooks, and Moleskine makes paper that both pencils and fountain pens like.

It’s absolutely steamrolling the country, and if they can’t get it under control, it’s going to steamroll across the region and around the world, because far too few people are able to get vaccinated worldwide. India had long had a solid reputation on vaccinations, and is a leading supplier of vaccines worldwide, but they’ve dropped the ball seriously here.

I saw another stat that said that cremations are up 1000% (10x) year-over-year, which means that the death toll could be underreported by that much. And that is a number I can’t even begin to fathom.

Hubby got his second Pfizer shot today. Our son and I get our second shot a week from tomorrow. I can maybe breathe a little easier about mid May, when the immunity fully kicks in. No one comes into this house without being vaccinated, and yes, I will ask for documentation because it’s my fucking house.

I’m really over these idiots that won’t get vaccinated. That and the countries world wide that still don’t have enough vaccine or health protocols in effect are going to make this virus an ongoing problem. There’s no excuse for not getting vaccinated unless you are home bound and have no support network(true of many elderly and disabled people who have to depend on help that often isn’t there or sporadic) or you are in an isolated area that hasn’t been served yet. There may be some medical exceptions, but not enough to mess with herd immunity. Hopefully wanting to see grandkids and other important people will sway some of the reluctant, but the rest of these covidiots are going to make life more difficult for a lot of us.

Exactly. A Republican that was forced to be truthful would rapidly die, just like a fish out of water.

Does a fish even understand the concept of water? It just IS. Republicans are the same way with lies. They don’t even comprehend the existence of truth anymore. Advantage is the only thing that matters.

There’s no such thing as herd immunity until we get the whole herd.

Wear your mask, get vaccinated, get the boosters.

Donate to organizations that vaccinate overseas.

Tell your representatives that we need aid for worldwide vaccination drives. If your rep is a repug, you may do it in 25 words or less, no need to waste precious electrons.

And settle in for the long run.

They mentioned on Al Jazeera news this morning that only about 25% of Indians actually die in hospital, where their deaths are duly recorded.

That’s a genuinely frightening stat.

The rural villages in the Sindh and Punjab are going to be abattoirs.

And yes, this is going to cross borders into Pakistan, Bangladesh, and eventually back home to China.

At the exploratorium in SF, they had a toilet set up as a drinking fountain to illustrate human squeamishness. Obviously, it had never been used as a toilet, and wasn’t hooked up to plumbing. That’s the only way I would consider eating food prepared with such an item, and I probably wouldn’t do it even then — that cook is just too weire.

It is insane, and people covering these stories across India are flabbergasted at the scope of the death and devastation.

This made my blood run cold:

“India on 25 March announced that a new “double mutant” variant of the coronavirus had been detected from samples collected from different states.

Virologist Shahid Jameel explained that a “double mutation in key areas of the virus’s spike protein may make the virus more infectious and allow it to escape the immune system”.

He says the change in the virus is the only “logical explanation” behind the surge. Health officials in the UK are now investigating whether a double mutant spreads more easily and evades vaccines.”

Too many dead outside of combat to consider it “functional” in my book.

That certainly used to be the case. But since becoming operational in 2007, there have been only twelve fatalities in Ospreys. Considering how much they have been used in Afg and Iraq, that’s not bad.

Nice idea, but Biden’s address is going to be to a joint *meeting* of Congress: it’s not a regular *session*, so nothing is going to be done anyway.
And right after I typed this, I realized that’s it’s Congress: nothing very often gets done even in the “regular sessions”….

Milwaukee Promotes Itself As Hip, Affordable Place To Live With All The Police Brutality Of Chicago

MILWAUKEE—In an effort to attract new residents to the city, Milwaukee rolled out a new campaign Thursday promoting itself as a hip, affordable place to live with all the police brutality of Chicago. “As one of the top up-and-coming midsize cities in America with great restaurants, an amazing entertainment district, and a police presence that terrorizes Black neighborhoods 24/7, there’s never been a better time to move to Milwaukee,” said Mayor Tom Barrett, who invited budget-minded Gen Z and millennial professionals to come experience the same level of disparity between Black and white residents at half the price. “You don’t have to move to a big, expensive metropolis to live in fear. Milwaukee is so vibrant you can practically feel the violent energy radiating off our police department. We may not be as big in size as some cities, but you couldn’t find a better worse place for Black people.” At press time, Barrett had unveiled a banner touting Milwaukee as the most segregated city in America.

Might Be A Good Time To Remind Y’all Of That Time Tucker Carlson Beat Up A Gay Dude In The Bathroom

In 2007, Tucker bragged on TV, in a discussion on MSNBC with Dan Abrams and Joe Scarborough, about that time he beat up a gay guy in the bathroom. It was around the time of that whole Larry Craig thing. Tucker started the story by saying “Let me be clear, Dan, I am not gay. I have never been gay. I overreacted and made a poor decision.” Gotcha, Tucker.

The covid-19 rate was pretty low until recently, even if you assumed 90% of cases were missed, so people were lazy and relaxed precautions. There was some backlash from the initial shutdown.
