The Amazing Julian Lage, Live in LA: “I’ll Be Seeing You”

YouTube

I believe I’ve posted this video before, but it’s too good to check. It actually started autoplaying on YouTube after another one I was only half-watching, and I suddenly began hearing Julian’s mind-blowing intro again.

There’s a comment at YouTube that has some extra context, and it’s even more incredible than it seems on first listen.

I had a Skype lesson with a Julian today. I saw that he was offering private lessons on his Instagram and jumped on it. Nicest guy ever.

At the end of the lesson I asked about this intro. I asked if it was completely improvised. Really, I knew the answer was yes, bc I’ve seen him do this intro about 5 times and every time it’s completely different. But part of my brain had to believe that some of it was pre written, I just couldn’t believe something that rich and complex could be completely improvised on the spot.

He just laughed and said it was all improvised. He talked about improvising compositions. How he would literally practice improvising like this, just his guitar, no accompaniment, for 40 minutes straight without stopping. He said Keith Jarret did that a lot in concert. Incredible stuff.

Elsewhere online I was responding to someone skeptical that Trump would have a further influence in the GOP in view of his pathetic airing of grievance performances at Mar-a-Lago, and came up with something worth sharing a bit:

Let’s wait and see if Trump is GOP kingmaker in 2022/2024 or even the GOP nominee in 2024 before writing his political obituary.

He is still sitting on the recently vacated toilet-throne of Rush Limbaugh as spiritual leader of the pig-people, and his only goal is to get his publicity back.

Very few things could make me as happy as the total obliteration of the NRA and all its foul works.

Wayne LaPierre should be in legal trouble for stealing all that money for his own greed. I wonder how many NRA members know how much money that POS has spent on a lavish lifestyle and nothing else.

The Proud Boys took over a park in Salem, Oregon, and the police decided they didn’t have to be there. The Proud Boys were throwing people out of the park, and the best the police could do was respond later after a man reported his experience at the park:

Police came by the house I’m working at and asked me questions. Dude spent the entire time basically trying to ask whether or not I was agitating them. Officer said “It’s not normal for them to do that unprovoked, but you’re not the first person they’ve thrown out today.”

I live in a majority Republican area of my county. Only 11% of my neighbors are Democrats.

I don’t know how accurate this is. I saw a bunch of MAGA flags during election season. One of them is still up.

re: #17 The Pie Overlord!

Rudy probably sees himself as an anti-Communist all while willingly using Russian misinformation because it fits his skewed worldview that Bidens did what Trump has done his entire life. It’s all projection like IMAX. It’s all baffling with bulkshit and ignoring that all the red flags showed that Russia was using Rudy and Trump to pursue Russia’s long term interests, and that they were undermining US interests - because Rudy and Trump didn’t care what happened to the US, only that their power was preserved and enhanced.

To the extent that any Republicans are still sincerely anti-communist, all of that energy is directed at Democrats since Democrats = communists for any ‘good Republican’.

Putin probably told Giuliani that he’s anti-communist, so it’s all good.

Talk about Fox viewer filters! My parents, who watch ONLY Fox News, see Juan Williams hosting Jeopardy this week and are all, “Who is that guy?”

Picked up the contract for the assisted living facility today. Went to lunch at a casino with mom after and played slots with her for twenty minutes after. I know how to keep her happy. Close on it tomorrow with the deposit and then it’s just listening to her bitch about it for a while… but at least dad gets care.

Giuliani calling himself anti-communist makes sense when you consider that for seventy years a conservative calling themselves an “anti-communist” meant they were willing to back any kind of authoritarian insanity as long as kept the oligarch gravy train flowing.

Y’all need to stop thinking of this shit in Cold War spy movie terms where Giuliani’s a spy or a stooge, and start recognizing that authoritarians have common cause with other authoritarians even if they advocate different hierarchies (the USA holding hands with the KSA for 3/4 of a century) and will happily work together in the short term to crush egalitarians of any stripe. Putin isn’t Sauron, he’s a better-than-average plutocrat who’ll happily back right wingers anywhere exactly like the Dulles Brothers were…because it’s a win-win situation where all the suffering is shifted onto other people.

Giuliani has been the same piece of shit his entire political career, you just don’t remember because you’re not a black New Yorker.
