An article about this showed that he was, as usual, an idiot but in this case he was not trying to be offensive. She had made an opening statement about her family and her father, and mentioned that her father was present at the hearing. The Senator thought he was being humorous in the way he was acknowledging the importance of her father in her life.

A reason that dropping mask requirements for people who say they’re vaccinated is a problem is that the children of people who believe in science are vulnerable to the disease because the vaccine hasn’t been approved for younger kids.

From the tweet link

“This has to stop,” Elorza said. “The young people involved, believing that the way to solve their disputes is with a handgun — I mean, that can’t be the way.”

Everything those young people have been taught by the GOP of the 2nd amendment is that guns are the way.

Former Dallas County prosecutor disbarred

A former Dallas County prosecutor has surrendered his law license after the State Bar of Texas found he withheld evidence that led to the wrongful convictions of two men.

The State Bar concluded that Rick Jackson failed to inform defense attorneys of Dennis Allen and Stanley Mozee, about evidence that could have cleared the two men at their 2000 capital murder trials. The two spent 14 years in prison. Both were convicted of the murder of a Dallas pastor.

Jackson’s lawyer Bob Hinton says his client did nothing wrong.

“There was nothing to merit withholding something. They went to trial and the jury spoke. There was nothing that wasn’t disclosed,” Hinton says.

The bastard loses nothing, since he retired in 2013.

Not that this addresses the fundamental issue you addressed, but I’m not taking my mask off when I’m with my son (he’s 7) until he doesn’t have to wear one. He’s been wearing a mask 6+ hours a day. He hates it, but he is a bad ass (as are millions of other kids) and soldiers on. It would be beyond unfair for me to go maskless around him.

And as a general matter, kids under 10 is the demographic least in need of masking. Now we are going to tell them they are the only ones that have to keep wearing them? Fuck that.

Under the Tim Cole Act (named for a famous case in Lubbock) the State of Texas is required up to $80,000 in compensation for each year an innocent person has been in prison. In the Dallas case, this would be over a million dollars each. This is no skin off the noses of yokel prosecutors, since the state rather than local jurisdictions, has to pay it. Of course, prosecutors themselves have no penalty other than the unlikely one of disbarment.

Tim Cole was a Texas Tech student and Army veteran who was wrongfully convicted of rape in 1984. He died in prison in 1999, protesting his innocence until the end. He was exonerated when another inmate confessed to the rape and DNA evidence proved Cole’s innocence. Cole received a posthumous pardon in 2010.

The Tim Cole Memorial in Lubbock:

The statue is 19’ tall. I saw the clay mold for this in Eddie Dixon’s studio before it was revealed to the public. Mr. Dixon is a magician with facial expressions.

Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, population center Colorado Springs. Lots of moneyed Republicans and Evangelicals. Lamborn’s been in office 14 years now. That’s at the very minimum $2.4 million in just his Congress salary that he’s earned. And he’s going for some stupid naked grift by throwing his son in a storage unit in the basement where he works. That’s… something. Colorado’s Republican politics has lent itself to bad craziness for some time.

The more batshit Lauren Boebert is the more she endears herself to her supporters here in CO-3. She can do no wrong and makes them excited when she “owns the libs.” It’s a childish bullshit politics and it has emboldened the shit kickers somethin’ fierce.

I was photographed today by a Vail Daily photographer, I’ll be featured in a story they’re doing about Boebert.

I am a bit torn about whether or not to go to Krogers without a mask. I don’t take my kids with me. But my son got his first shot today, so we are now just 5 weeks to a fully protected household.

I’m confused by this because if they are referring to the voting machines, the only thing that passwords would get you, is the configuration and perhaps some of the counts in the precinct the machines were in.

They won’t get you source code. There is, I guarantee you, no function in the machine, there is no use case, where passwords get you source.

Saw my first 17-year cicada this evening. Likely a ‘dude’ as I couldn’t see an ovipositor. They’ve been reported as coming out locally for the last few days.

Couldn’t photograph it as I was on the cell phone at the time. Not too worried, though. I suspect that there might be a few more to photograph soon enough. /////

Happily, it has so far been quiet. I do expect that the ‘singing’ will start up soon.

Desert Larkspur - Delphinium parishii

The desert in bloom is always amazing. Some years flowers are everywhere and some years you have to look a lot harder. This beauty was found near Fossil Falls CA - US 395 near the red cinder cone. The photo comes from April 2019 - a really good year.
