Well, here’s one I hadn’t heard before:

“I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures all over the internet of people who’ve had these shots and now they’re magnetized, and put a key on their forehead, it sticks, they can put spoons and forks all over them and they can stick because now we think that there’s a metal piece to that,” she claimed, not saying who “we” refers to.

Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, recognized as one of the world’s top spreaders of vaccine disinformation. (and, of course, she’s “testifying” to Ohio lawmakers.)

This is wild because this is a famously simply trick that hucksters have pulled for years just be virtue of having sticky, greasy skin.

Like COVID is demonstrating how conspiracy thinking is just a constant recycling of stuff that seems valid because people sort of remember it from some other time, but it’s reaching the bottom of the barrel.

Also fucked is that, at this point, there’s no way to tell who’s pulling a prank and who’s genuine. There’s a future pogrom that will be prompted by someone trying to be ironic on social media, I guarantee.

Just went there and did my civic duty.

I remember, not so long ago, when Virginia was on the same Crazytown route as Georgia, Florida and Texas. So pleased that all my legislators are mostly sane. Another reason why I make sure to vote in each election.

Btw, the primary today was only for the Democratic side. The Republicans had their top-down imposing of candidates last month.

‘No evidence whatsoever’: Left refutes right-wing candidate’s election fraud claims — in Peru

At this point I’m basically spreading one wall of repetitive text across many posts but:

The reactionaries can’t fucking help but fall into this pattern, regardless of where they are and the specifics of context, because their core belief is that they can’t be wrong and other people aren’t supposed to disagree.

So if there even an ambiguity, it’s a sign that the natural order—in which they are axiomatically moral and correct, no scrutiny required—has been disrupted: a lie has been introduced by a dangerous force, and the task is not to find the truth through investigation or hard proof, but to re-assert their own claim until, through repetition and application of coercion

Reality is just a power transaction for this kind of person. Some of them are self aware, essentially trolling the rest of us, some are un-self-aware and credulous, but most sit in between…lying to themselves about their own motives and wants before crafting new lies to make the rest of us comply with their motives and wants.

The core difference between the left and the right is still just as it was in the French Revolution. The right wants an aristocracy, the left opposes it.

So little progress has been made in opposing aristocracy that what comes after aristocracy is dealt with is the great political unknown.

I guess he would have been safer in custody (all in all, a very weird story; I remember the coverage of the boat crash like it was yesterday)

Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and her son Paul Murdaugh, 22, were shot several times and their bodies were found near a dog kennel, Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said. How many times they were shot won’t be known until autopsies are conducted later this week, Harvey said.

Paul Murdaugh was awaiting trial on a charge of boating under the influence causing death in a February 2019 crash that killed 19-year-old Mallory Beach. The woman’s body was found seven days after the crash.

huffpost.com

The Murdaughs are a powerful legal family in South Carolina. The State newspaper described the family as representing “power, justice, and big money” for nearly a century.

And this is weird as well:

The Island Packet reported, also through sources, that the victims were shot with different weapons — a shotgun and an assault rifle.

Klan of Greene Gables, How the fuck does the flu and cold mutate then fucking brainiac?

She’s not trying to describe, or even reference, how the world works.

Her point is that everything uncomfortable is an attack and the appropriate response is finding guilty parties and punishing them.

It’s not base-rate stupidity…she and her followers and many people like her will just never acknowledge that the things you view as markers of “what is true” matter.

They will not do this because what they want is a world where they dictate the terms of what is important moment to moment, according to their appetites.

When the disease keeps them from doing what they want…or from being served in a manner they view as right and natural…it’s trivial because their appetites are more important than any person’s health (including their own), but especially the health of lesser kinds of people (who happen to be more at risk).

When the disease can be used to advance one or more pre-existing appetites to condemn, punish, and sadisticially enjoy the process of condemnation and punishment, COVID becomes non-trivial because their appetites are more important than any general understanding of disease, and especially the scientific consensus that has been established by lesser kinds of people (who don’t have the gnosis that determining reality is just a rhetorical exercise)

This is not stupidity; it is boundless cruelty. Cruelty so deep that it seems incomprehensible, outside of the possible.

Only God or an evil scientist can make a new virus. Any natural changes would remain within their own kind, which in this context means a harmless virus can’t become deadly without mad science.

She is specifically using the playbook described below (10:46)

The point of her statement is to deflect, so everyone is talking about how dumb her statement about evolution is, and not the fact she (and others) have been threatening Dr. Fauci.

If you fall for the bait, the conversation has changed. They’ve gotten away with the threat. But plenty of their supporters heard it.

Ah, the sanctity of marriage (presumably as described by the Bible).

One man and one woman.
One man and one woman and her concubine.
One man and several women (and their concubines).
One man and one or several women and their slaves.
One man and his rape victim (if he pays the father property damage).
One man and the seized women in combat (as spoils of war).

None of my family would come to my wedding (because my wife and I are both atheists).

The New Testament has it Jesus shall set father against daughter, &c. The faith is more important than family.

That’s why so many children who tell their parents they no longer believe get thrown on the street like a garbage bag.

Reddit’s r/atheism has an FAQ on if you’re thinking about coming out of the closet, first: Don’t. Second, if you do, make sure you have a secure line to finance and a roof over your head somewhere else, because regardless of what religious denomination you belong to, you cannot predict whether you will be accepted, told “it’s just a phase,” or thrown out on the street.

After LGBT children, atheist children are the most commonly abandoned by Christians to die in the street.

To the Trumps’ credit, they used the letter ‘c’ as code for “colored” on applications in order to deny apartments to Black families instead of using ‘n’. So there was some class there. ////

Around the time we first got married (ca. 1973) the first wife and I went to a rent referral place in Amarillo Texas. They had a loose leaf binder with lists of rent houses and apartments that were available. It included a brief description and other information. About a third had the word “picky” added. I asked the rental lady what this meant exactly. She told me in a confidential tone that it meant the landlords didn’t like to rent to “colored” people but could no longer say so since the Fair Housing Act had come into force. She added that it I had nothing to worry about. I wanted to tell her that I was actually colored, but the sun in Vietnam had bleached me out.

What we have here is a future Pennsylvania Congressman!

22-Year Old Who Successfully Impersonated Lesser Trumps Charged With Fraud

A 22-year old Pennsylvania man raked in thousands of dollars by impersonating various members of the Trump family, Manhattan federal prosecutors said on Tuesday.

Joshua Hall is facing charges of wire fraud and identity theft after allegedly creating fake social media accounts of lower-profile Trump family members like Barron Trump, Robert Trump, and Elizabeth Trump Grau to collect money.

All he has to do is say Jesus forgives him and he’ll get at least 45% of the vote in PA…

During his lifetime, the celebrated Czech Jewish author Franz Kafka penned an array of strange and gripping works, including a novella about a man who turns into a bug and a story about a person wrongly charged with an unknown crime. Now, almost a century after the acclaimed author’s death, literary lovers can view a newly digitized collection of his letters, manuscripts and drawings via the National Library of Israel’s website.

As Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports, the collection contains around 120 drawings and more than 200 letters owned by Max Brod, a friend and fellow writer who served as Kafka’s literary executor. Instead of destroying the author’s papers as he had requested, Brod chose to publish and preserve them.

I’ve been disparaging West Virginia since Joe Manchin’s 1996 gubernatorial primary race against Charlotte Pritt, in which Manchin constantly blamed outsiders from Texas moving into the state for taking good West Virginia jobs away from West Virginians.

We moved from Texas to West Virginia right after my wife got her Ph.D. to take a position at a small, private college (later university) run by an aspiring Trump-figure with a gospel CD (which apparently excuses a lot of sins in Appalachia) and a shady past in Florida.

The school had no tenure, and you could be fired for any reason, and the coal camp mentality was strong there. Around 2012, its nursing program lost its accreditation, which opened the school up to scrutiny. The president was fired and fled to North Carolina. The university shut down not long afterward.

We had escaped to New Mexico about 8 years previously, the wife having taken a pay cut to do so.

Prior to 1995, I had no stereotypes, prejudices, or bad feelings against West Virginia. By 2004, there was very little positive I could say about the southern portion of the state.

The political advocacy group backed by billionaire Charles Koch has been pressuring Sen. Joe Manchin, d-w.va., to oppose key parts of the Democratic agenda, including filibuster reform and voting rights legislation.

That lobbying effort appears to be paying off. Manchin, in a recent op-ed, wrote that he opposed eliminating the filibuster and that he would not vote for the For the People Act, which, advocates say, would limit the influence of big donors on elections.

Joe Manchin is opposing big parts of Biden’s agenda as the Koch network pressures him

Last evening a friend on a Zoom get-together said that Bibi is following Trump’s playbook in trying to remain in office. Today, I was discussing this with an acquaintance, an Israeli woman who is spending a couple months in Chicago with her daughter who lives here; she agreed with that characterization and then expressed her deep concern that several Knesset members now have been forced to have security provided by the police because of serious threats by Bibi fanatics who were threatening violence if they didn’t change their support of the opposition. These will be truly dark days if Bibi succeeds.
