Extensions, AFAIK, are maintained by the community. It is possible that there’s a breaking change in the latest VS Code that the extension’s developer hasn’t accounted for. Sucks that you had to deal with that. Hope it gets straightened out shortly.

The error message was “Extension host terminated unexpectedly,” and it screwed up other things when it died — context menus were missing lots of items, the autocomplete features weren’t working right, and the Format Document commands kept saying there was no formatter installed. I was going nuts for a little while trying to figure it out.

Weird thing is that the SSH connection actually kept working - I could open and save files, stage commits, everything.

Millions of rounds of ammunition stolen on Mexican highway | Yahoo! News

Seven million rounds of .22 caliber, bound for the U.S. They don’t think it’s drug cartels:

The .22 rounds are used mainly in rifles for target practice or extremely small game. Mexican cartels prefer larger, high-velocity ammunition for AK-47 and AR-15 rifles or 9 mm weapons.

“These will be of no use to them, given that they don’t use these weapons,” said security analyst Juan Ibarrola, who also acts as spokesman for the Tecnos Industries company

What an idiot. .22LR is plinking ammo for sure, but you could put a lot of hurt into a target using a modded-up Ruger 10/22 with a drum magazine and a Hellfire trigger, which I haven’t heard about in decades but I assume they still exist.

Beyond that, with ammo prices in the US being absolutely insane at the moment, 7 million rounds of anything is basically a form of currency for the gun crowd.

Per an earlier discussion downstairs: When I had a vertebral artery dissection a year ago that led to two minor strokes and the discovery of a small, pea-sized brain aneurysm (one year alive anniversary three days ago!), I found out that total bill was $150,000. But Critical Race Theory is destroying America.

The long distance camera on the Iceland eruption is particularly beautiful tonight. It’s just after sunset there, unusually clear skies:

Geldingadalir Volcano, Iceland - LIVE! Overview camera

Scroll back a couple of minutes to see the latest eruption, which is really just an over-flowing of the bowel.

The close-in camera tends to for-shorten the southern end (to where the lava spills out.) The volcano is a strange shape because it started off as two ones which then merged. Then the outflow has all been to one side, through various low points in the rim, so a ramp has been built up.

Said ramp is full of lava tubes, down through which the lava flows out to the valleys. For a few days now it looks like most of the lava is going into the valley off to the right of your screen. This is where most of the steam is being produced, where evidently the lava tubes interact with a water source.

I went to an outdoor live concert last night, Lake Street Dive at the Westville Music Bowl in New Haven.

They played this song and Rachel explained that it was written by her best friend, the bass player, who lived in the ground floor apartment directly under her at the time.

My hard limit, whether it’s real or not, is anything involving a bad time for an animal. I’ll make a narrow exception if it includes a rodeo bull stomping the brains out of a rider, or a Spanish bullfighter getting gored in the balls.

I wish I could disagree but I think this is the likely outcome. Unless they decide to make an example of him over tax evasion. But I am not holding my breath. I also hope we’re both wrong. I do not for the life of me understand why prosecuting a criminal president is just something that can’t be done because? Civility? Worry about it becoming a tool of partisan revenge? How is it a bad thing when there is actual criminal activity on multiple levels?!

One thing that’s for sure, all this mess has laid bare a huge number of flaws in our supposed best government ever in the whole world.

“Hacks” was great. Funny when it needed to be and deep when you least expected it. Great series.

I was really looking forward to “Lisey’s Story” because Stephen King wrote the screenplay, but tbh it’s kind of slow so far. Maybe it will get better.

Pieces of hit but non-vaporized skeet and empty beverage containers have been my .22 targets of choice, others are too expensive and don’t last long enough.

MILWAUKEE - The ACLU of Wisconsin filed an administrative complaint today against the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District (CFAUSD) for its chronic failure to properly and meaningfully address pervasive instances of sexual, racial and gender-based harassment on school grounds, alleging that administrators have skirted their legal obligation to protect students by neglecting to take sufficient action when harm is reported.

The ACLU’s complaint was made on behalf of the Cultivative Coalition, a group of four recent Chippewa Falls high school graduates who has been advocating that the district take stronger measures against discrimination and harrassment of students of color and LGBTQ+ students for more than a year. The members decided to form the group because they had either witnessed or experienced discrimination during their time at CFAUSD and felt unsatified with the the district’s reaction.

ACLU of Wisconsin Administrative Complaint Alleges Pervasive Discrimination At Chippewa Falls School District (Wisconsin ACLU, more at the link)

The school district amongst other things said it was students’ responsibility to stop their own harassment. That includes a lesbian student being harassed by a school counselor over her dating preference. The counselor called her into her office to demand from her “what sins she’d committed” and she needed to repent or she would go to Hell. The student says she was also harassed by a Christian from outside the school who would come to the school to harass LGBT+ students in the name of Jesus.

According to the ACLU complaint, there are many more examples of this, and each time the school chose to ignore the complaints, in violation of the law.

The Coalition and ACLU are not suing; they are asking the school follow the law and be more transparent. The school says they did nothing wrong.

The church who sent their “missionary” to the school accuses the students of lying about them. Such churches call harassment “love.”

A State Trooper Texted Himself Nude Photos of the Woman He Was Arresting (Jezebel)

When the woman was released, she discovered outgoing messages to an unknown number.

A Minnesota state trooper has pleaded guilty to texting himself explicit photos of a woman he arrested last year after she had gotten into a car crash.

The officer, Albert Kuehne, had arrested the woman on suspicion of drunk driving; after the woman made a call in the backseat of Kuehne’s cruiser, he demanded that she relinquish her phone to him. He then proceeded to scroll through her phone and send himself the photos, all of which were either “nude or partially nude,” according to the complaint against Kuehne, as reported by the Washington Post. Two of the photos showed the woman’s exposed breasts.

In court documents, she denied giving the officer access to her phone or to the photos. She didn’t realize the officer had looked through her phone at all until hours later after she was released from custody. According to the Post, her boyfriend was the first to notice mysterious outgoing texts with photo attachments to an unknown number when he was using her MacBook. When she and her boyfriend called the number, Kuehne picked up the phone.

Kinda late to the show so this may have already been posted, but the 22LR also used to be a favorite round of assassins. Hinckley damn near took ot raygun with it.

re: #39 retired cynic

I didn’t leave my door. I couldn’t outrun a turtle. The door was open just enough for me to hold the phone to the opening. She stamped her foot at me, and that was totally her right to do so!

In the fall, during breeding season, it is the bucks that are aggressive and more likely to attack.

There is a video of a Washington State bow hunter (Lynn Chestnut) who was attacked by a buck. Turned out the bow hunter had poured female deer urine on himself to attract the buck. The buck was probably a bit unhappy about the bait and switch. Chestnut was trying to create content for his hunting video channel. His wife was the videographer. She apparently filmed the event rather than rescuing him. Probably a good choice. Chestnut did survive without being too badly injured.

In the spring and summer, the does are more likely to attack if they perceive that their fawns are threatened. Southern Illinois University Carbondale Campus reported multiple attacks by does in 2005 and 2006. Eventually, in 2006, a police officer shot a doe and apparently ended the attacks.

Generally the attacks involve a charge which may knock the person down. The deer then pummels the person with its front feet, striking downwards.

Meridian mayoral candidate: ‘We’ve got the dumbest kids on the planet here in Mississippi’ (WLBT, Jackson, Miss.)

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WLBT/WTOK) - Some shocking and uncomfortable moments happened at a political forum in Meridian Tuesday afternoon. One of the candidates running for mayor of Meridian did not have a lot of good things to say about school children.

“Meridian has the dumbest kids on the planet,” Republican candidate Robert Ray said.

The guests attending the mayoral forum appeared stunned by what Ray said when he was asked about spending stimulus funds. WTOK gave him a chance to explain.

“There’s nothing to clear up. We’ve got the dumbest kids on the planet here in Mississippi,” Ray said. “You can tell that in the schools. We are rated the lowest schools. What determines whether our kids are dumb or not?”

Ray said he would spend the money on the school system to improve education.

Well, to be fair, he does have a point about the need for more education funding.

So he should simply have said that the state has the worst schools in the nation and that he intends to improve the situation. It’s not the children who are dumb; it’s the politicians and the boards of education that are dumb or perhaps more accurately callous and uncaring.

Sometimes it’s better to tell the harsh truth rather than sugar coat it or pass the buck. Telling parents that their kids are morons and the state as a whole is to blame for failure to properly fund their schools has certainly gotten more notice than more focus-group-tested lines about “investing in our children” or “the importance of education.”

I had never heard of this until recently:

Bombardment of Chefchaouen

The Bombardment of Chefchaouen was an aerial bombardment of Chefchaouen, Morocco carried out in the middle of the Rif War by a rogue American squadron in the service of the French colonial empire on September 17, 1925.

The group had been organized by American adventurer Charles Sweeney and included several World War One aces. This is NOT the same Charles Sweeney who led the atomic bombing mission against Hiroshima in 1945 (Atomic Charles Sweeney was 6 years old in 1925).

On the motivation of the rogue American volunteer pilots, Sweeney wrote, “In our view, France, in fighting [Rif leader] Abdel Krim, is fighting the cause of the white man’s civilization, and all who have formed this squadron know enough of the world to appreciate what the white man’s civilization means.”

The US State Department took a very dim view of all this, since the US did not support French and Spanish dominance in Morocco.

The US Department of State instructed its consul at the American Legation in Tangier, Maxwell Blake, to warn the Americans that they would risk the revocation of their US citizenship, imprisonment, and fines if they battled “against a people with whom the United States had no quarrel.”

There were apparently no consequences, however, and Sweeney went on to further adventures, including fighting against former Rif war comrade Francisco Franco in the Spanish Civil War.

The real question is how do we exist in a post-democratic America? Clearly the long term trend since the early 60’s has been towards Republican rule by any means necessary at the direct expense of law, reason and civics.

The overall white voting bloc has been supportive of this authoritarian effort and moving increasingly right wing Republican. Republicans have been also effective lately in promoting the false dilemma argument of socialism vs. capitalism gaining Latino and Asian elderly voters. This is very concerning as we have once again future victims helping their eventual oppressors gain power as seen throughout history.

to beat this to death, there are only three options

1 - entirely used up in the U.S. because more people want vaccines than the supply
2 - used elsewhere / donated while assuring everyone in the US who wants one, gets one

Why does everything Fox News wants its viewers to be afraid of sound like a cool band? ANTIFA. Reverse Racism. BLM. Caravan of Migrants. Social Justice Warriors. Critical Race Theory. I would absolutely attend this music festival.

Because, like a cool band name, these are terms, acronyms and phrases that are catchy and stick in the minds of their viewers, mingling with the preconceptions and prejudices already festering there.

Caught it Tuesday - 15lbs or so. Got 4lbs of filet in the picture. Another 2 1/2 lb filet is in the fridge covered in dry rub for gravalax. Gave a few pounds away to neighbors and friends, and had fillets for dinner on Wednesday night ourselves. Wife said no more salmon for a while…but the bite is on and one of the local boats texts me when they come in with them…and they deliver. So I’ll probably do this again after the 4th.

Pope Rejects German Cardinal’s Offer to Resign (New York Times)

Shorter “liberal” Pope: How dare you admit the Catholic Church has engaged in centuries of abuse and rape?

Longer liberal pope:

“We will not be saved by investigations or the power of institutions. The prestige of our Church which tends to conceal her sins will not save us; neither the power of money nor the opinion of the media will save us.” Instead he proposed all “confess our nakedness” and admit to sin and ask for “the grace of shame”. (The Cardinal is on the “liberal” side of the church — more so than Pope Francis, probably. Also too, there have been no specific charges of sexual abuse or coverup against him.)

Smoker acts like an ice box. I’ve got an attachment burning alder chips on the side. Current temp inside is 77 and the fish is at 55. I turn the burner off periodically since it doesn’t need constant smoke for 12 hours. I’ll add ice every few hours as needed. Just need to keep the fish under 85-90. Will Biden Send Demon Lesbian Army To Attack Gordon Klingenschmitt? Let’s Hope! (Wonkette)

He said:

When I discern the spirits behind what the Biden Administration is doing, they’re doing the opposite. They don’t want a holy military. They want a demonic military and what’s the end goal of that?

Ultimately, not only are they welcoming that kind of behavior but they are now punishing Christians. They are driving chaplains - like Army Major Chaplain Andrew Calvert - has now been given a letter of reprimand as a chaplain by a general officer to punish him for voicing a private opinion against transgenderism.

So they are purging the Christians and that demonic spirit of Antichrist is coming in to take over our military ultimately for one reason - that when the devil controls the American military, the Antichrist can rise and take over the world.

An unruly passenger is in custody after another violent disruption onboard a Delta flight, this time involving an off-duty airline employee who made threats and attacked two flight attendants on a plane traveling from Los Angeles Friday.

The airline said other passengers intervened to help detail the unruly passenger.

The plane was headed to Atlanta around 5:45 p.m. when Oklahoma City police say the suspect — identified as 34-year-old Stephon Jamar Duncan, an off-duty Delta employee — made “terroristic threats” to “take down the plane.”
Authorities said he also attacked two flight attendants before another passenger — an off-duty pilot — and the flight crew and passengers were able to subdue him.

The plane made an emergency landing in Oklahoma and was allowed to resume travel to Atlanta after being cleared by police. No passengers were injured in the incident.

Here’s the link to the *note* opinion piece by David Ignatius regarding the attempted Jordanian coup:

washingtonpost.com

President Donald Trump had a dizzying dream for a diplomatic “deal of the century” for Arab-Israeli peace that would unite his allies Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It never happened, in large part because Jordan’s King Abdullah II would not bend to pressure and make concessions on the status of Jerusalem and other issues affecting the Palestinians. His resistance came at a price: Abdullah’s kingdom has been shaken by tremors over the past several years, encouraged by the squeeze from top political leaders in the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Abdullah’s troubles erupted into public view in early April, when the king’s security forces detained three prominent Jordanians he suspected of plotting to destabilize his regime: Prince Hamzah, the former crown prince groomed by his American-born mother for the throne; Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, a relative of the king and a powerful tribal leader; and Bassem Awadallah, a former Jordanian minister who had become a confidant of the Saudi crown prince, who’s often known by his initials, MBS.

A Jordanian prosecutor referred charges against bin Zaid and Awadallah to the State Security Court on June 2, but the details weren’t disclosed publicly. A Jordanian investigative report on the case, shared with me by a knowledgeable former Western intelligence official, claims that the alleged plotters’ actions “do not amount to a coup in the legal and political sense, but they were an attempt to threaten Jordan’s stability and incite sedition.”

Hamzah wasn’t charged. The investigative report says he and his family “are at their home under His Majesty’s [Abdullah’s] care.” The report argues that Hamzah had “never accepted” his 2004 removal as crown prince and sought to “present himself as an alternative” to his half brother, the king.

The Jordanian report continues: “Awadallah was working to promote the ‘deal of the century’ and weaken Jordan’s position and the King’s position on Palestine and the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.”

Obviously, much more at the link.

Just going to add a piece of historical “trivia” but it’s hardly trivial: The Jordanian royal family used to be the guardians of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. When the House of Saud conquered Mecca and Medina in 1925, the Hashemite family was displaced and given what was then called “Transjordan” as a consolation prize. I am *sure* Abdullah II remembers every single day that MBS’s ancestor pushed his ancestor out. Given that Abdullah sees himself as the guardian of Jerusalem’s holy sites (such as Al ‘Aqsa), I doubt he forgets about Mecca and Medina.
