Getting older sucks. I’ll be 40 soon and generally speaking I’m in good health but my BP has been slightly elevated for a while.

So my doctor is putting me on medication for it starting right away. I had a normal BP as recently as 18 months ago.

I’ll be 37 this fall, and I’m on 3 different blood pressure meds. Without them, my BP is somewhere north of 170/110. Hope yours isn’t as out of control as mine.

Your sight should be going to shit pretty soon as well if it’s not bad already. Don’t fuck with reader. Just pull the pin and get the glasses.

47 and I’m expecting to die of a stroke or aneurism any minute now. I’m not hideously obese, I am moderately active all day long (except today, hurr durr), don’t smoke, etc etc. I’m on two different BP meds and can’t keep my BP below “elevated”.

I saw the optometrist about a year ago. I need a slightly stronger prescription but that’s on account of me being a dumbass and waiting 4 years between visits.

My eyes are healthy and I’m hoping they stay that way for a while.

I mean in the sense that I am somewhat overweight, not out of shape but not in great shape, refrain from smoking, drink alcohol and eat red meat only on occasion (today being one, son is here and it’s burgers on the grill weather after a rainy week) and have BP issues that I try to keep in check without regular meds.

Tomorrow we get out for a long hike in the vineyards.

How ‘In God We Trust’ Bills Are Helping Advance A Christian Nationalist Agenda

Despite its being the national motto for only 65 years, Christian nationalists have framed “In God We Trust” as part of the U.S.’s founding tradition. Moreover, the motto has become an important rhetorical weapon for Christian nationalists - using it to advance their belief that governments and people are to “trust in God,” and more specifically their perception of a conservative Christian God.

I’m 58. I lost a bunch of weight 5 years ago and got off the BP meds. I gained 30 lbs in the last year, my BP soared, and it put me in the hospital, so now I’m on the meds again. Back to eating right to lose the weight.

My thyroid went into overdrive about 20 years ago. I tried for a few years to take medication to off-set it but finally gave up and went with the radioactive iodine treatment, which killed it. Put on about 80lbs after that. Finally doing something about that side effect of having a dead thyroid gland…but I take 200mcg of Levoxyl every day nonetheless.

At least I’ve got the memory The SSD And the new optical drive installed -That just leaves the CPU And there is no way The AMD Heat sink would fit provided so I have to clean off the original Thermal paste From the heatsink, drop in The new CPU, And put everything back up Pray for no magic smoke.

LBJ had just left office 6 months earlier. Agnew had four years to go, before he resigned as part of a plea bargain on corruption charges. His replacement by the highly respected Gerald Ford was a factor in persuading Democrats and ethical Republicans (not yet extinct at the time) to go ahead with plans to impeach Nixon.

Ironically, Agnew was not implicated in Watergate and his resignation had nothing to do with it. He lived another 22 years after leaving office, wrote a couple of books and became an early leader of the Republican conspiracy culture that now dominates the party. In one of his books, ominously entitled Go Quietly…….or Else!, Agnew claimed that he had been threatened with assassination if he did not resign.

Seems they deepfaked his voice to have him ‘speak’ lines that he did in fact write, but never actually spoke on camera.

I think it’s kinda uncool, but it’s nothing compared to the horrible ways this technology is certainly going to be used in the future.

I’m going to watch, and the director is a stand up guy. BUT I too object to AI creation of sentences. We just don’t need fake quotes, especially from a professional guy like Bourdain.

This tech will not end well for truth, politics or anyone having credibility.

OK, I, as a fan of Anthony Bourdain am OK with this. I’m certain the producers of this film didn’t invent this technology specifically for this, and the potential for it to be weaponized should not be taken out on this film.

I’d like there to be some legislation in this area with this and video deep fakes, but I don’t trust anyone in Congress to be tech-smart enough to figure out how to reasonably control this. So I don’t know what to do. Complaining about this flick isn’t it though.

Yet another stolen “dad joke” from my favorite film-review podcast (altered slightly to fit circumstances):

I tell so many dad jokes that my family staged an intervention because they sensed a kind of addiction to them. My son said, “Dad, you have to stop telling these awful jokes; it’s just embarrassing.” I told my son that it’s a compulsion I can’t restrain. He said:

“Dad, I’m sorry, this is where it stops!”

“So you’re saying I have to give it up entirely? How can I quit?”

“whatever means necessary!”

“No it doesn’t.”

Yes and no. She explores but one of the original housecats wants to stalk and play. Well, she is really not yet into it. We have a rough Detente’ so that’s great. I suspect months will pass before it’s all buddies and play.

Our cat pepper is older now, so she shies away from it all. Not yet exploring the house at all. Which to me is a little sad but hey she has a Catio, food, water, a nice roof and everybody loves her. Not bad.

Moving is hard on our pets just like it is us.

Not hard, but you have to add something to the meat mixture to give them extra moisture. I’ve been using Japanese mayonnaise for that purpose; it’s made with egg yolks instead of egg whites, so it has a subtly different flavor and a little more fat.

I made the Husband some tilapia baked with asparagus and broccoli with some butter and a little tomato/basil Mrs Dash seasoning. Served over brown rice. Sides were a fresh cucumber and tomato salad and some watermelon. One of my husband’s friends has access to a huge farmers market not far from his house and he picked up a huge watermelon and some beefsteak tomatoes for us.

Sadly I cant eat any of this except the watermelon(not my fave) and the cucumbers. I don’t like fish that much. But he’s trying to get his blood sugar under control and I am doing my best to help and he supportive. His new Medicare plan gives him a free membership to the YMCA down the road from us and he’s been going to water aerobics classes and riding a stationary bike and walking on the indoor track they have there at least 5 days a week. I hope he sticks with it this time. I’ve been down this road with him many times. Fingers crossed.

I am off to have a Turkey sandwich.

If he wants to “protest communism” why doesn’t he go to somewhere they have it? North Korea or Cuba.

Yeah, well they may be idiots, but they aren’t stupid…..

(Or is it the other way round…?)

Well, the CPU goes back to Amazon as my motherboard does not like the Ryzen 7 3700X - I needed the AMD Ryzen7-2700X. Amazon wants a pretty penny for such an older processor, but I can snag ‘em all day long on (fl)ebay.

For now, I got the 32 GB and the SSD in; cloning the old 1TB Seagate to it. Gonna take a bit….

More than 60 people treated after “chemical incident” at Six Flags water park in Texas

More than 60 people had to be treated on Saturday after a chemical incident at a Six Flags waterpark in Houston, Texas, officials said.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office tweeted that dozens of people experienced minor skin and/or inhalation irritation after a chemical incident was detected at one of Hurricane Harbor Splashtown’s attractions. The local fire department said that 26 people were transported to local hospitals and that 39 refused ambulance transport after a HAZMAT unit put people through a decontamination process. Roughly 4,000 people were at the park during the time of the incident.

“Most of the patients that we saw during the time in the beginning were all respiratory distress, a little hard to breathe, things of that sort,” Spring Fire Department Chief Scott Seifert said Saturday at a press conference. “We didn’t see anyone with chemical burns, anything like that.”

So what’s the consensus on breakthrough infections within this community? Within a week I’m hearing of more and more of this. Mostly low level fever and not much more.

Now I’m hearing of some hospital admittance. My nephew who is a PA intern in Jacksonville FL has been on the ER floor since out of 1st yr and has been doing noting but Covid work. I’ll call his Dad tonite cause Corbin’s prolly going to be going thru some things in the next weeks to come. One this week was intubated, but then was apparently taken off the vent.

re: #218 Dave In Austin

The breakthrough infections I’ve been hearing about have been either very mild, or for people who are hospitalized, they’re elderly or immunocompromised. It is vanishingly rare, apparently, for a healthy adult person who is vaccinated to have any serious symptoms that would require even an urgent care visit.

Too, you have to remember…no vaccine is 100% effective. And if you’re vaccinating millions and millions of people, you WILL get a number of vaccinated folks who get COVID. That’s just the law of large numbers.

I saw the optometrist about a year ago. I need a slightly stronger prescription but that’s on account of me being a dumbass and waiting 4 years between visits.

My eyes are healthy and I’m hoping they stay that way for a while.

The condition, that hits around 40, is called Presbyopia, literally “old eyes.” I like to joke that basically your warranty expired at 40, exactly 20 years after the body’s peak at 20.

“isnt the only justice returning their land?”

Not really.

There are so many problems with trying to deal with the past, but the painful reality of humanity is that we’ve got tens of thousands of years of examples where one group of people move in to where another group is living.

The bad thing, today, is that some still existing Native American communities are struggling with basic needs of life, like water, healthcare, etc.

I’d much rather see us try to address the today-problems, rather than trying to undo what can’t be undone.
