The one where the lab assistant erroneously adds some lizard DNA to the ocelot mix, and we end up with the main cast being menaced by Ocelotzilla.

A Mississippi pharmacist pleaded guilty today for his role in a multimillion-dollar scheme to defraud TRICARE and private insurance companies by paying kickbacks to distributors for the referral of medically unnecessary compounded prescription medications that were ultimately dispensed by his pharmacies. The conduct allegedly resulted in more than $180 million in fraudulent billings, including more than $50 million paid by federal healthcare programs.

According to court documents, David “Jason” Rutland, 42, of Bolton, a pharmacist and co-owner of various compounding pharmacies, admitted that he participated in a scheme to defraud TRICARE and other health care benefit programs by distributing medically unnecessary compounded medications by, among other things: adjusting prescription formulas to ensure the highest reimbursement without regard to efficacy; soliciting recruiters to procure prescriptions for high-margin compounded medications and paying those recruiters commissions based on the percentage of reimbursements paid by pharmacy benefit managers and health care benefit programs, including commissions on claims reimbursed by TRICARE; and routinely and systematically waiving and/or reducing copayments to be paid by beneficiaries and members, including utilizing a purported copayment assistance program to falsely make it appear as if Rutland’s pharmacy and its affiliate compounding pharmacies had been collecting copayments.

How is anything getting passed through the legislature there. Aren’t all the Democratic legislators in DC pleading for voting rights?

If there’s no quorum for Jim Crow 2.0, there shouldn’t be a quorum for this.

Or was this garbage passed before they left, and it wasn’t in and of itself reason to creatively filibuster?

Since recreational cannabis stores opened, government revenue has skyrocketed.

A total of $387 million was taken in in 2020 from taxes, licenses and fees. That’s a 473% increase from 2014, when governments collected $67 million.

A Colorado resort town reliant on summer visitors has halted tourism marketing because an affordable housing crisis means businesses don’t have enough workers to stay open during their busiest season.

Crested Butte, CO. When I finished college in Gunnison (30 miles south) in 2009-11, that first summer I was working at the grocery store in Crested Butte part time and I lived in the woods from Memorial Day until school started again in late August. Saved a lot of money, and got one human’s fill of mountain biking in and around Crested Butte. It was a very memorable summer, but I did it because I felt I had to. Housing in Crested Butte, even then, was prohibitive for where I was at financially at the time. Here’s me during that summer on a day I rode my mountain bike 50 something odd miles.

In recent years the population of folks like me in the summer of ‘09 in the woods above Crested Butte has exploded. I bet half of the service workers in Crested Butte today don’t have housing in the summer.

They would be on more solid ground than the average sky-daddy superstitionist if they did though.
Reminds me: In one of his books, Cosmos maybe, Carl Sagan mentioned that our ancestors worshiped the Sun “and they were far from foolish.” Indeed. The Sun is indisputably real and indisputably beneficial, which is miles ahead of the average superstition. Sun worship became just another bloodthirsty cult, though, when priests started claiming that it listened to their appeals and was grateful for their barbarous sacrifices.

Oh, I don’t assume she’s telling the truth, but her background is wacko hard right all the way and there’s usually a large component of religious fanaticism in that. But who knows, it could be a grift. Doesn’t really matter though, the effect is the same.

In 2021, Greene said that she became politically engaged during the 2016 Republican presidential primaries.[35] Beginning in 2017, she wrote 59 articles as a correspondent for the now defunct American Truth Seekers, a conspiracy news website,[10] and beginning in January 2018, 27 articles for Law Enforcement Today,[2][36] a pro-police fake news website.[37][38] In 2017, Greene visited Washington, D.C. to protest against a Republican gun control compromise.[39]

Greene was a top official of the Family America Project, a conservative group founded in January 2018. She was a moderator of the organization’s Facebook group, in which members posted death threats against Democrats, bigotry directed at the Obamas, and support for multiple conspiracy theories, including claims associated with the John Birch Society about the U.S. government being infiltrated by communists.

This tiny (maybe 1/3 the size of a monarch) butterfly is relaxing on a mustard plant. Ever wonder what the difference between moths and butterflies is? That church has 7 locations with close to 40,000 members. The pastor is Andy Stanley, I think he took over after his dad, Charles retired last year. He has a halfway decent reputation for a megachurch pastor, but I honestly don’t know a lot about the family or the church beyond seeing ads on TV about Andy’s late night show in Atlanta. This is how the right wing becomes ascendant — going after positions on lower levels: school boards, library boards — silencing dissent and promoting propaganda. The left has to do the same thing to stop them. You cannot just look at federal level races but state and local races. This is how states become gerrymandered — the right wing gets into state houses and senates and design maps to perpetuate their influence.

Actually, I think for once it’s his own idea. He’s the one who questioned Fauci and got his ass spanked by him. He’s one of those I think truly believes the lies spewed by the stupid right, and I think he genuinely, actually means to get Dr. Fauci arrested for lying to Congress.

There is a fuckton more on this pain cream scheme; this is the tip of the iceberg.

Initially the Feds said there was $515 million involved, later reduced to $287 million. (I can’t tell if this was hived off to David “Jason” Rutland’s case.) But before this group of people started THIS grift, they had a different grift where they were skimming receipts off a hospital starting in 2010. When they got sued over that, they went into the medical compounding scheme.

As the coronavirus surges in their states and districts, fanned by a more contagious variant exploiting paltry vaccination rates, many congressional Republicans have declined to push back against vaccine skeptics in their party who are sowing mistrust about the shots’ safety and effectiveness,” the New York Times reports.

“Amid a widening partisan divide over coronavirus vaccination, most Republicans have either stoked or ignored the flood of misinformation reaching their constituents and instead focused their message about the vaccine on disparaging President Biden, characterizing his drive to inoculate Americans as politically motivated and heavy-handed

She was apparently baptized in 2011 at the North Point community church in Georgia. Some evangelical megachurch.

North Point is a Baptist (not sure if it’s part of the SBC) megachurch pastored by Andy Stanley. His father is Charles Stanley. The father and son had something of an acrimonious split some years back after Charles divorced Andy’s mother. Charles accused Andy of trying to move him on. Andy went on to found North Point. In more recent years, Andy has been accused of being too soft on gays, not holding to the inerrancy of scripture and most recently, not opening his church back up AT THE FIRST POSSIBLE MOMENT during the pandemic. That said, he’s a white Baptist minister of a Southern megachurch, which is a huge BLERGH to me.

Since MTG lives in the northern part of the state, she probably doesn’t attend North Point much, if at all.

A paid spokesperson for former President Donald Trump is posting his same election lies on Twitter that incited the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol and got Trump permanently banned from the platform two days later.

“The Voter Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election was monumental, and the facts are coming out daily!” Liz Harrington wrote on Monday, quoting from a false statement that had just been released by Trump through his Save America committee.

Interstate 70 in Colorado closed both directions between MM 109 and MM 133 (Glenwood Canyon) due to flash flooding potential. It’s been closed at least a half dozen times in the last month or so, but I believe this is the first time they’ve closed it before a slurry sludge river covers the highway in seven feet of mud and debris and there’s still cars on the highway.
