Nope, and if he was at all interesting the alliteration would have made the name stick in my memory.

re: #2 The Pie Overlord!

Can we get over treating Trump voters as the default and start treating them as the minority they are? They lost. They’re the ones that need to adapt to reality. We are under no obligation to adapt to them. Isn’t that what the Republicans kept saying, “winners make policy, lovers go home”?

re: #320 dat_said

I’m waiting for when the corporate world will try to eliminate work from home They’re going to quickly learn that a percentage of the employees will say “no thanks”.

plus i wonder how many companies right now are paying their work at home employees for the dedicated floor / desk space, heat, a/c, internet, phone usage and other intangible or tangible infrastructure they just assume is there.

this is not a zero sum offset by reduced commuting expenses.
how many businesses were paying for that before?

It’s the constant recirculation of the logic that vampirically sustains abusive relationships:

You have to be reasonable even in the face of unreason, even as the unreason gets more aggressive. If you, the person being harmed, continue to announce that things aren’t working, are causing harm, then it’s not just the abuser that’s bad, it’s everyone that couldn’t see the abuse, and the entire cultural system system whose the norms and the etiquette do nothing to prevent and everything to conceal abuse.

same old bullshit, only Dems have agency…

WE Have to listen to THEIR concerns
for the public good, WE have to accommodate THEM

it’s simply incredible when they have power and control to implement policy, NONE of that ever applies when roles are reversed.

When these fuckers finally own up and even pay lip service for all of the awful shit that they’ve done, fine we can listen to them then. Until then, I want them to simply stfu and let us try and fix all of the harm that they’ve done while getting their racism on unchecked.

My employer is now unfortunately paying for the dimwits who refuse to vaccinate to have their ongoing tests, rather than lighting a fire under them to get vaccinated by making them pay the costs they create. We now have 9% who refuse, rather than the 8% several months ago. Our dummies are incapable of progress.

4 injured in Dippin’ Dots plant explosion in Kentucky

Tragedy struck a Dippin’ Dots facility in Kentucky after an explosion injured at least four people, WSPD6 local reported.

It is not known what exactly caused the blast, or the extent of the damage to the Paducah facility, a company spokesperson told the Associated Press.

A rep for the city said the plant appears to have had a nitrogen leak, but that it was unclear whether the possible leak had played a role in the blast. Nitrogen is an essential component of Dippin’ Dots, which is used to “flash freeze” the ice cream, the wire service reported.

It’s probably too much to hope for There is little risk that Covid will kill off enough Repug dupes to make a statistical dent in their turnout, but there may be a backlash among the much more numerous survivors. Most, of course, will go right on believing whatever absurd conspiracy claim Faux News and the GRU can manufacture to cover for their attempted genocide. There will be some, though, who will finally get home after weeks on a ventilator, facing permanent disability and ruinous costs, and say to themselves, “You know, those assholes were lying after all. I’m going to get even.” Given the millions of cases this could be a substantial number in raw terms.

Baton Rouge:

Betty Antoine’s 46-year-old son Brandon became a COVID statistic—despite her pleading with him to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

“I begged him, I said, ‘You need to take the vaccine, Brandon.’ ‘Oh, no, mom, I’m not going to take it. And you better not take the vaccine either,’” Antoine said to CBS News’ David Begnaud.

“Did he ever talk to his doctor?” Begnaud asked.

“His doctor wanted him to take the vaccine. He told her no,” Betty said.

He told his mom and his friends he had done the research and wanted to wait, but Antoine said her son left out an important detail to his friends.

“He did not tell his friends all the underlying health conditions he had. He had a bad heart. He had lung problems, COPD,” she said. Brandon tested for COVID-19 and died six later.

“First of all, I was so full with… I want to say angry. I was kind of angry, not so much at him, but because he did not take the vaccine,” she said. “And I said, right then I’m going to ask his friends and everybody to take that vaccine in honor of him.”

Antoine offered COVID-19 vaccines during his funeral. Three people stepped up that day to take the vaccine and 10 others followed later.

“I just wanted them to see Brandon’s ashes. I wanted them to know, look, Brandon is dead because he did not take the vaccine,” she said.

NFL contracts are not guaranteed. But, as long as the teams don’t cut the players they can’t sign anywhere else. But, if players don’t show up for scheduled training/games (i.e. holding out) they don’t get paid

Whether before an election or not, if Roe falls the GOP is done as a national party. They will have alienated huge numbers of women, who are a larger percentage of voters than men. Blue states will become bluer, purple states will become blue, and a few red states will flip blue. It will be their ultimate dog catching car moment.

He is completely unredeemable.

The reason they want all these statues is because they think the Confederates were the “Good guys” in the Civil War. Full stop. Anything else they say is horseshit and it should always be framed as such.

It does. This is just right-wing idiots being cranks again. Propagandists seem to have decided to thin the right-wing herd to stick it to Biden, and they poisoned the minds of their victims against a life-saving vaccine. After the battle, a large number of African-American soldiers were massacred in one of the most controversial events of the war. Though most of the Union garrison surrendered, and thus should have been taken as prisoners of war, the soldiers were killed. ..

Union survivors claimed that even though all their troops surrendered, Forrest’s men massacred some in cold blood. Surviving members of the garrison said that most of their men surrendered and threw down their arms, only to be shot or bayoneted by the attackers, who repeatedly shouted, “No quarter! No quarter!”

I’ve been on a cruise ship in 25 foot waves and it reminded me of the hubris of humans in the face of Nature. It was scary and awe-inspiring at the same time. I also think that a lot of us were dehydrated by the end of the storm from all the, shall we say, loss of bodily fluids!

To be fair, Massie actually voted to certify the election, which makes him better than at least 147 House Republicans.

The 147 who voted against certification consisted of 139 House Republicans and 8 Senators. So he was better than 139 — which isn’t saying much. And maybe he isn’t better than Tom Rice, who voted against certification but for impeachment.

There’s probably someone here who can point me to one, but I haven’t seen a cryptocurrency that wasn’t a scheme to enrich the creator and early adopters much more than it is a useful substitute for money.

More than 1,000 people have so far signed up to the pro-Trump cryptocurrency magacoin, including conservative media personalities and Republican figures, the Guardian can reveal.

The news comes after poor security configuration in a website associated with magacoin exposed the email addresses, passwords, cryptocurrency wallet addresses and IP addresses of users who have bought in to what its promoters describe as the “digital currency for the MAGA community”.

The data also reveals that the lion’s share of the cryptocurrency so far produced has been allocated to the self-described creator of magacoin, a pro-Trump consultant who owns an LLC associated with the cryptocurrency, and a Super Pac associated with the same consultant.

It looks like the metal festival in Vegas next month is being cancelled. They’re making an announcement on Monday that’s hush hush for now, but some of the bands have come forward and said a two week quarantine along with higher hotel and airfares make it financially impossible for the European bands (which is pretty much most of the lineup) to even bother. Las Vegas has already made employees wearing masks in the hotels and casinos mandatory, so I have a feeling we’re looking at a lot of cancellations all over the country for festivals and shows again. Which gives me a bit less to worry about, even if my kid is bummed his plans got messed up.

One key characteristic of a successful currency is that the price of products remain relatively stable in that currency especially over short periods of time, unless the product becomes scarcer, or more abundant. That is demonstrably not true of cryptocurrencies which fluctuate wildly in value.

“We couldn’t find or capture the bear, and while there won’t be any spectators at the stadium, we are on alert and searching for the bear around the site.”

Local media identified the animal as an Asian black bear, with the Sports Hochi daily saying the entire contingent of Olympic guards assigned to the venue spent the night searching for the creature.

They even blasted music and let off firecrackers in an effort to flush out the bear, the newspaper said.

The arrests put in motion plans that Abbott first announced in June, when he also said that Texas would continue building former President Donald Trump’s border wall and called on other governors to deploy law enforcement and National Guard members to the southern border.

The detainees are being held at what had been an empty state prison in Dilley, Texas, about 100 miles (160.93 kilometers) north of the border city of Laredo, said Robert Hurst, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He said the converted facility will be able to hold more than 950 people.

All of those arrested so far have been single adult men, according to Val Verde County Attorney David Martinez, who said he was advised last week that the number of migrant arrests could increase to as many as 100 or 200 per day. Such large numbers, he said, “would overwhelm not only my office, but our entire system pretty quickly.”

Most land along the southern Texas border is private, but Martinez said his understanding was that state troopers would not arrest family units. Last week, U.S. officials reported that they had encountered 55,805 members of families with children in June, which was up 25% from the previous month. That figure still remains far below the high of 88,587 in May 2019.

“If John Doe is caught on my property and he has his wife and his children with him, chances are he’s not going to be arrested,” Martinez said. “That’s what’s been represented to me.”
