At 98 and facing cancer, Bob Dole reckons with legacy of Trump and ponders future of GOP | Yahoo! News

He was one of the few elders of the traditional Republican establishment to endorse Donald Trump in 2016 and the only former presidential nominee to attend the convention that nominated Trump. In a split with the 45th president, Dole said there’s no question that Trump lost his reelection race in 2020 - narrowly perhaps but fair and square.

“He lost the election, and I regret that he did, but they did,” Dole said. “He had Rudy Giuliani running all over the country, claiming fraud. He never had one bit of fraud in all those lawsuits he filed and statements he made.”

“I’m a Trumper,” Dole said at one point during the conversation. But he added at another, “I’m sort of Trumped out, though.”

From corporate America to conspiracy theory promotion: How a Minnesota man made a career out of anonymously amplifying dark plots | The Washington Post

Turnbull has identified himself online for 11 years only as “Sean from SGT Reports.” He has amassed a substantial following while producing videos and podcasts claiming that the 9/11 attacks were a “false flag” event, that a “Zionist banker international cabal” is plotting to destroy Western nations, that coronavirus vaccines are an “experimental, biological kill shot” and that the 2020 election was “rigged” against President Donald Trump, according to a Washington Post review.

[…]

For years, Turnbull’s operation has generated revenue through subscriptions and donations and by advertising survival products and precious metals, which Turnbull has recommended as a hedge against an impending U.S. economic collapse, the Post review found. He reported that his business was generating between $50,000 and $250,000 annually in 2019, according to a voluntary business survey he answered and submitted to the Minnesota secretary of state that year.

Fuck. Me.

State Bank of North Dakota is the only government-owned general-service bank in the United States. It was established when the Non-Partisan League was elected to state government.

Media’s “both sides” obsession has gone too far: Jan. 6 commission fight is fault of the GOP only

The media’s coverage of McCarthy’s stunt so far has been an extreme example of what the bloggers at Lawyers, Guns, and Money deemed “Murc’s law”: “the widespread assumption that only Democrats have any agency or causal influence over American politics.” In this case, the assumption is that it’s somehow Pelosi’s fault that McCarthy and his fellow Republicans are singularly focused on covering up for Trump and his crimes. These men are adults who think they’re entitled to run the government, and yet they apparently can’t be held responsible for their rejection of truth, the law, or the integrity of the electoral system they’ve sworn to uphold. Nah, it’s somehow Pelosi’s fault for not somehow massaging these fascist cover-up artists into better people.

The attitude, common in the Beltway press, is obnoxious enough when Democrats are being chastised for putting their campaign promises on infrastructure spending ahead of letting the GOP sabotage them in the name of “bipartisanship.” But now the media fetish for bipartisanship is being weaponized by Republicans to justify, and this cannot be stated firmly enough, covering up for an attempted fascist overthrow of the U.S. government. And because they want the man who instigated it to have another bite at the apple, no less.

As Crooked Media editor-in-chief Brian Beutler pointed out on Twitter, the problem is that the media treats Republican “dirty dealing as a constant,” as if it’s the weather and not the actions of autonomous actors. They, therefore, end up acting like the only people whose actions deserve scrutiny are Democrats. The result is Democrats get blamed for things completely out of their control, such as McCarthy’s choice to favor Trump over democracy.

The result, he added, is that the media is ignoring “one of the most incredible stories in U.S. history,” which is that “an organized mob of the president’s supporters attacked the Capitol and his party is trying to cover up the connections between the two.” It’s certainly a more interesting story than “Democratic leader fails to make Republicans act better,” and yet, here we are.

It’s meee 🌈✌🏼💚 The tree hugging, nature loving, free-spirited, barefooted, adventure seeking weirdo your parents warned you about 😛 I thought I’d take a moment to sort of re-introduce myself to you guys.

I am American born from a Swedish mother and Filipino / Portuguese father. I grew up living between a van and a 1 bedroom condo with three brothers. My Dad was my ski coach and skiing has basically always been my everything.

I started to witness and experience climate change nearly 15 years ago through the lens of diminishing snowpack. When I was a teenager I toed into activism as student body president and founded a very short lived organization called “Skiers Against Global Warming” lol

I experienced a lot of trauma early in my life when I lost my brother, my mother, a partner and struggled with anxiety, depression and pain from a broken neck, femur and a few shoulder surgeries.

I’m on a perpetual healing journey to release emotional and physical trauma so that I can be the best version of myself, for myself, my loved ones and this beautiful planet.

My purpose on Earth is to help humanity live in harmony with Mother Nature.

I try my best everyday to lead with compassion and kindness. Sometimes I struggle with my confidence, imposter syndrome and immense physical pain that makes me cranky and impatient.

I am learning to fall back in love with this platform by challenging myself to be authentic and vulnerable. I love engaging with you guys and I take the time to read almost all of your comments and messages and I’m constantly blown away by the love, kindness, stories, support and experiences you share with me.

Just wanted to say thank you for following along my journey, I am truly humbled and I love you all very much. 💓 xox Sierra

A few thoughts on the DC 14th Street shooting…

1. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, 14th Street was considered part of the black ghetto. It was noted in particular then for its ‘Ladies of the Night’.

2. By the 2000’s the area had been gentrified, forcing the original residents out due to rising housing prices.

3. DC shootings have generally been located in predominantly black local neighborhoods between local antagonists who know each other. To have a shooting outside of a local neighborhood, in a gentrified area, has, up until now, been rare. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a trend. And if so, we shall see what happens when upper middle class folks face the reality lower income folks have faced for many years.

4. The DC police have deployed the “Shot Spotter System” in large areas of DC. It allows the DC police to quickly locate suspected gun-fire and direct resources to the location.

Relying on 911 calls or police on the ground generally takes a lot of time to evaluate as the information has to be gathered, sorted out and interpreted, and often the information received from callers is not always reliable to due to human weaknesses.

6. The Acosta video is about two long blocks away from the reported shooting.

7. Lots of the firearms come in to DC (and points north) through the I-95 corridor from point further south. Where gun law as are far more lax.

For a while, New York City was tracking seized firearms. It traced a lot of these firearms to a few specific Virginia gun dealers. However, the then Republican Virginia State administration blocked New York City from doing much about these dealers.

Some more of my e-bike BS, skip over if you like. The heat has been eating into my e-bike rides so I took a long ride today (45 miles) I saw more e-bikes on the trail than ever, at least 20, including an East Bay Regional Parks Police Bicycle officer on an e-bike. It was supposed to be only 86 today but turned out to be a 92 degree day (even with only 30% humidity it was quite warm) so I relied on throttle rather than pedal a lot on the trail out so I had to pedal all the way back (using minimal motor on pedal assist level 1). The last mile is all uphill so I needed at least 25% battery to make it uphill before it quit providing any motor assist on heavy load. When I got home the odometer was at exactly 500 miles. which keeps me above 60 miles a week.

If you know you need exercise but your body is limiting you I recommend an e-bike. if balance is a problem there are trikes (you can go fast or you can turn), semi-recumbent trikes and recumbent trikes. It makes you want to go out and explore. You can exercise as much as you want to (or are able to do), and then there’s the throttle for when you don’t.

…and what this guy said.

my spouse swears by hers, she doesn’t use the assist all the time but it’s a great comfort having it available upon need. She uses it here in the Tucson area quite a bit because we have a lot of trails with some significant inclines (being surrounded on all four sides by mountains and having old washes and rivers will give you a varied topography). For the last few years she’s even used it to ride in the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest National Park….

I have a fat tire bike (70 lbs) so even on flat ground I can’t pedal above 3rd gear (of 9) without pedal assist (even more so as I lower tire pressure for a smoother ride, damn hard-tails). With pedal assist in the lowest level I can ride with less effort than as on a standard bike. Back in time when I was 30 years old I rode a normal mountain bike on the local canal trail for 12 miles (a long ride) and I was worn out. Now at age 65, on the e-bike, I consider that same ride as slightly more than a short ride. I consider 10 miles a short ride, 20 miles a medium ride, and anything over 35 miles a long ride.

Covid: Food workers given exemption from isolation rules

Supermarket depot workers and food manufacturers will be exempt from quarantine rules as the government tries to prevent food supply problems.

The move comes after the rising number of retail workers being forced to self-isolate was beginning to affect the availability of some products.

The government said workers, regardless of vaccination status, could do daily Covid testing instead of isolating.

Up to 10,000 workers are expected to qualify for the scheme.

hi

POTENTIAL PROGRAMMING WARNING

(did that get your attention?)

A Defunct Video Hosting Site Is Flooding Normal Websites With Hardcore Porn (Vice)

Stories on major news sites like ‘The Washington Post,’ and ‘New York Magazine’ currently have porn embedded in them because of an old site called Vidme.

As pointed out by Twitter user @dox_gay, hardcore porn is now embedded on the pages of the Huffington Post, New York magazine, The Washington Post, and a host of other websites. This is because a porn site called 5 Star Porn HD bought the domain for Vidme, a brief YouTube competitor founded in 2014 and shuttered in 2017. Its Twitter account is still up, but the domain lapsed.

Seemingly any vidme embeds now redirect to the 5 Star Porn HD homepage. The site vidme also redirects there. For example, if you check out this New York magazine article about former House Majority leader John Boehner’s “creepy kissy face,” you will see photos of Boehner but also images of a man with a gigantic penis fucking a woman.

(Link goes to The New Yorker, “John Boehner Answers Questions with Creepy Kissy Face”, February 26, 2015)

(more, the article is now Safe for Work)

I checked the New Yorker article in question. The video is removed, and NoScript no longer shows Vidme as one of the third-party redirects from the site. The New Yorker has apparently disabled it and removed the entire comment section for the article.

If you own a Website which has embeds from the former Vidme site, you might want to go back and remove them, as they will now show porn (unless you like porn, then I suppose you can keep them).

If you go to the original Vid (dot) me site, it is now all free porn (NSFW).

re: #146 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

Answer to Brexit food shortages? Lower safety and health standards. Along with a plan to allow truck drivers to work longer hours,

Two different things. The planned exemption for vaccinated food supply workers and others to the current isolation rules is because of the massive increase in reported cases of COVID-19. The contact tracing system, intended for much lower numbers of cases is triggering on people like shop workers who are in proximity to dozens or hundreds of different people each day. If one of those customers tests positive all the shop workers present are supposed to self-isolate for ten days. It’s the same for places like health centres and hospitals and a number of other places. The exemptions will only apply to fully vaccinated people, anyone who isn’t vaccinated are still supposed to go through the ten-day isolation process. Also note that shop workers won’t necessarily get paid for self-isolating.

The lorry driver problem is tied into COVID-19 since there’s a lot of new heavy-goods vehicle (HGV) drivers who are waiting for their licences to get issued since the issuing offices are closed or running with a skeleton staff. At the same time the UK is facing a shortage of HGV drivers after Brexit since many of the EU-citizen drivers left the UK once the onerous work and residency qualifications needed to stay cut in. Part of it however is press reports issued by the trade organisations and large businesses. They are facing higher wage demands from drivers after a long period when the market was saturated with non-UK drivers and they could be fobbed off with low hourly rates. That period of low wages meant that HGV driving was not seen as a good career move by younger people resulting in a reduction in the numbers of new drivers coming up through the HGV training schools which were also affected by COVID-19 early on.

156
Anymouse 🌹🏡😷  Jul 23, 2021 • 3:48:38am

That article has also had all Vidme content removed, and NoScript shows Huffington Post does not do redirects to that site.

The same is true for the Washington Post article in question.

5 Star HD Porn got a worldwide free advertisment for their porn site by buying the defunct domain of the former Vidme.

This goes to an issue that concerned me when the US Navy stopped running domains and the GOP demanded that be privatised (such as Go Daddy).

There are no laws in place to deal with a corporation which goes bankrupt regarding their defunct social media accounts and Website names. Vidme’s Twitter account is still up, with its last corporate post in 2017.

If the porn company could get control of its Twitter account, it could spread explicit porn across the Internet.

IANAL but it seems to me that when a company is wound up, the domain names of that company could be retired by the courts to prevent misuse, as is going on tonight with the old domain vid (dot) me.

They baying mob should be calling her a RINO any minute now. Regarding Gov. Kay Ivey of Alabama:

GOP Governor Says It’s Time To ‘Blame The Unvaccinated’ For Pandemic Surge (Huffington Post)

Gov. Kay Ivey also called out right-wing media disinformation about the vaccine.

Good luck with that, Governor. I’m glad you’re on board now, but where were you when your party was busy programming their voters?

Oh, this is you only three months ago:

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey lifts mask rules, urges common sense instead to combat virus (FOX News Channel, April 7, 2021)

Ivey said she’s issuing a “greatly slimmed down” health order that has few restrictions. It encourages people to keep taking precautions such as voluntarily wearing masks, but no longer includes a statewide mask order.

You won’t admit you’re wrong though, as you went along with the rest of your party. You can only shift blame to “right wing media outlets” because a conservative’s decisions are rooted in their religious fervor; they can never admit their faith is misplaced and their religion of conservatism is wrong.

So you have to blame someone else.

Prepare to be underbussed by the faithful.

The point is that none of this would have been an issue but for them Brexiting in the first place…

Oh sure. UK drivers have been bitching about EU HGV drivers working here for a long time as they clearly kept wages down (ten quid an hour?) as well as (anecdotally) being more willing to break the law if the bosses demanded it, driving overloaded or unsafe vehicles to get a job done. The low wages depressed the takeup of training slots for new drivers in the HGV driving schools because it was perceived as a badly paying high-stress job, irregular long hours away from home and no job security. Brexit up-ended all that as the EU drivers returned to Poland and other Eastern European countries or moved to the Netherlands or Germany to work.

The haulage companies are facing a squeeze, their drivers are asking for more money while their business customers like the supermarkets are not willing to pay higher logistics prices. The bad companies who hired and fired on a day’s notice and got a shit reputation but knew they could always get EU drivers to work for them are really struggling now.

It’s most likely a dodgy driver for some hardware that’s installed in the machine. If the drivers don’t properly control hardware state when hibernating or waking up, the OS will crash. This is generally true regardless of the OS; and to make it fun, hardware that works on one OS might not work properly on another.

Patients at a Cedar-Siani hospital? My understanding those places are fookin’ expensive, meaning the patients are probably very well off.

The solution is the same as always. Sue the city. About a billion dollars ought to do it.

If the voters want to put craven politicians on their board who won’t control their sworn officers, make the voters pay for it. There should be a penalty for voting stupid, and that’s the best one you can impose.

Then make sure no unrestricted bond is ever passed (which can be used to pay off the penalty).

Voter stupidity has to be punished to end fascist policing. If councilmembers are too cowardly to stand up to their own sworn officers, then they should not be politicians.

re: #166 Dopamine Fish

It’s most likely a dodgy driver for some hardware that’s installed in the machine. If the drivers don’t properly control hardware state when hibernating or waking up, the OS will crash.

Anecdotally, on my desktops under Win8 and Win10 I’ve found that AMD video cards allow me to “sleep” my machines overnight i.e. I hit a key in the morning and they wake into the login screen within a couple of seconds. Fitting an nVidia card (and the requisite drivers) disables the sleep option in Windows and I can only hibernate the system i.e. it takes thirty seconds or so from pressing a key to get to the login screen.

Sleep keeps the system state live in RAM using a trickle of power, hibernate saves the system state to the HDD or SSD so it needs more time to restore the next day, especially if you have a lot of RAM (I have 32GB on this machine).

Owners of the AirB&B I stayed at for a few nights in Albuquerque had an e-bike, so I asked about it. Since the area they live in to the place they work at is relatively flat it was very useful for running errands or shuttling back and forth with minimal loads, especially in the cooler weather, instead of needing a car.

Very popular on the Rhine, as the embankment trail itself is level but you have to really power it uphill to get anywhere away from it.

Some Google searching has turned up a few different potential explanations for the problem. Related generally to sleep and hibernation settings, potentially drivers*, and also one claiming an issue with the “fast restart” setting could cause something to start back up out of order.

Every municipality I’ve worked for used commercial banks. There are cheaper loan options available sometimes, but it is weird dropping city money at Wells Fargo or Chase.

Our former village board chairwoman worked for Platte Valley Bank. She routinely abstained any time questions came up about borrowing or paying money, since that was our bank after we withdrew with prejudice all our accounts from Wells-Fargo over their checking account fraud scheme perpetrated on their customers.

With the notable exception of North Dakota’s socialist bank owned by the state, every municipality, county, and state government which needs to borrow money has to ensure their project doesn’t run afoul of a commercial bank, which is just the way conservatives want it.

I still cannot escape the concern that new strains will be more virulent, deadly and vaccine resistant and we will wind up chasing our tails for the rest of the year or even the decade…

I suspect that with a few exceptions, such as Australia and New Zealand and perhaps a relative handful of other nations, most countries will just shrug and say, “Oh well, there’s nothing more that can be done. We’re just going to have to accept a higher mortality rate and a slight decrease in life expectancy. That’s how it goes, folks.”

I reckon we’ll see the same response in regard to climate change by the end of this century. “Sorry, folks, too late to do anything about it now; we’re fucked, so go out there and live your best life - while you still can. We’re doomed anyway, so he who dies with the most toys wins! Hooray!!”

Is the motivation of the anti-Covid vaxx movement as simple as the desire to kill Americans (including potentially themselves) solely to ruin Biden’s record and interfere with any accomplishments of his administration?

Yes. They don’t care how many of their own they take out, as long as they take out more of us along the way.

Moreover, conservatism naturally leans toward authoritarianism. As defined by the grandfathers of the movement back in the 1700’s, its goal is to ensure that democracy does not lead to the loss of power of their rulers.

When aristocracies started falling in Europe, they explicitly noted that controlling capital would be the key to controlling democracies and rendering them toothless.

Conservatives would rather destroy a country rather than share power. They always undermine the rule of law to their advantage. The reason they have no new ideas is because the only idea they have is power.

Yes. That’s the Republican Game Plan—Blaming Biden for the deaths…and seeing right wing posters endlessly relating that shit on Facebook and Twitter.

According to The Economist, India’s ruling BJP Hindu religious nationalist party in power, has now charged Twitter with treason.

The reason? Because areas outside India that nation claims, Twitter marks on maps as “not India.”

The pattern of conservatism is repeating there, just as it has in many other countries throughout the ages. Certain moneyed companies or individuals think they can control the crazy people they work to put in power, only to find out that the crazy people no longer need them when they get in power.

It is a failure of conservatism repeated again and again throughout history.

Since the BJP people are also religious radicals, folks who work for Twitter in the United States could come under physical threat from a radical Hindu.

As I’ve noted about myself and Christians, it takes only one to make a really bad day. Jack Dorsey and his board might have oodles of money to defend themselves, but their workers do not (and even being on top of the world doesn’t guarantee you are protected).

No. The motivation is that conservatism has become a disease built around nihilism. In good news from Missouri, the state supreme court is forcing the state government to expand Medicaid as the voters decided.

We went through the same here in Nebraska in 2016. The voters overwhelmingly approved Medicaid expansion on a ballot referendum (north of 80%) and the Republican-led Unicameral refused to bring up enabling legislation.

It took a lawsuit to force them to do it, and it is now being implemented this year, five years after it was approved.

You know, akin to the Trump view that no testing means no cases. If you don’t report on illness and deaths, then they aren’t really happening — or at least they don’t really matter.

Gov. Bullethead here isn’t blaming Soros (yet), but he has blacked out all reporting information (which is why on recent maps showing spread of Covid-19 Nebraska shows as if it has no cases).

She has stayed home for more than four months.

Her issues have been:

She lives in the extreme northwest corner of Chicago (6500W, 6500N) and has no car.
Illinois Website signups excluded her since she has no Internet service (too expensive).
The areas she could get vaccines were far away from her home (she deemed the risk of exposure to get a vaccine too great versus staying at home).
The store across the street from her apartment started offering vaccines (so she could walk there).
Medical concerns over her medications were assuaged by her physician. He suggested she not take the Johnson & Johnson vaccine due to the sorts of medications she takes.

I brought up a new motherboard and moved my old OS to the new machine. Unknown to me, I ended up with two almost-identical storage drivers for the same device. This caused all kinds of weird problems. Most notably, the system would crash on sleep.

When the OS commands a sleep or hibernate, it must notify all the drivers. If there is no response from any driver function, the system times out and triggers a crash.

Most inbuilt driver diagnostics won’t find this problem.

I used a system diagnostic tool called Autoruns to find the duplicate drivers. I’m stubborn in that way. //

WSB TV was the first network TV station in the South, it leans less conservative fortunately, but as is the case with most local TV, actual journalism is very limited. One of the local anchors for the station has had a breakthrough covid infection and I am waiting for the spin to start, hopefully not, but they are making a huge deal out of it and I think it’s possible anti vaccine shitheads are going to have a field day with it. They have too much influence as it is.

Again, this feels less like the act of desperation of folks afraid of losing the state and more like the absolute confidence of someone taunting those who thought they could ever stand up to absolute, impenetrable power.

Christianity (the OT at least) came about the a time of a Patriarchal nomadic society, hence the view of God as a bearded male in robes like a Middle-Eastern goat herder…

Shockingly, it also forbids any representation of any sort of the deity and teaches that no image can exist, an interdiction that continues (among orthodox Jews) to this day

C’mon Crackhead Mike! Crash and Burn!

Mike Lindell promises his ‘cyber symposium’ will be bigger than Elvis’ 1973 Hawaii concert

Is Crackhead Mike going to wear a rhinestone studded jumpsuit when he hosts this farce?

“Elvis Presley in 1973,” Lindell reminisced. “Over a billion people watched that ‘Aloha From Hawaii’ because at that time, it was epic. This is going to be so important for the whole world to see — I’m hoping the word keeps spreading so that everybody at least tunes in,” he added.

A devoted Elvis fan, Lindell wasn’t shy about the prospect of upstaging the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Asked whether his event could really be bigger than the legendary Elvis concert — one of the first global satellite pay-per-view spectacles — Lindell expressed optimism. “I’m hoping it is. I just hope a lot of people see it,” adding earnestly that no matter your political party, by the final day of the gathering, the entire world will be convinced to “right the wrong” of the 2020 election.

Mrs. Fish was talking to her parents a while back, and I had filled her in on the history of the Southern Strategy and how people who are now Republicans used to be Democrats. So when her dad said he had always voted Republican, she spoke up, and of all people, her mom chimed in and said, “Yeah, remember, Dad? We used to vote for Democrats all the time when we were younger.” Not that I’m holding out any hope that they’ll do so again in the near future, given that my father-in-law is a verified QAnon believer and a noted conspiracy theorist, but one can always hope.

Gee whodathunkit?????

The record-setting COVID-19 surge in Missouri springs from Branson, a superspreader tourist town whose visitor policy—to sell lots of tickets and take few precautions—is endangering thousands of lives.

“It’s crazy busy with no mask mandate,” said the person who answered the town’s tourist information line on Thursday.

As the crowds come and go, the infection rate for Branson and surrounding Taney County is 19.3 percent. There are 54 new cases a day in a population of 57,000, which is 10 times the national per capita average. More than two-thirds of the population are unvaccinated, including the very nice tourist information person.

“It’s not happening,” she said when asked if she had gotten the shot. “Have a blessed day.”

2020: grandma has to die for the economy

2021: oh shit grandma voted Republican didn’t she

Covid brought a lot of the inherent Evil of GOP thinking to the surface, namely that people exist to serve the economy rather than the economy existing to serve people.

Or rather that the economy exists to serve 1% of the People and Fuck the Rest

I also recall a GOP politician pointing out that although people would die of Covid if we re-opened to quickly that “People die of poverty, too!”

Nobody dies of poverty. People die for lack of proper nutrition, shelter and health care because we have decided that poor people do not deserve such things in our society.

Opinion | I was a lifelong liberal Democrat. Then Cleveland named its baseball team The Guardians

A similar Wökenheimer moment came up in Germany when the German Railway decided to stop using the word Schwarzfahren (literally “riding black”) to describe people who ride without a ticket.

Faux outrage ensued in the conservative press, including a quip about how they would have to rename the Schwazwald (The Black Forest)

Of course, there is no negative connotation to the Black Forest, it is a historical name going back to Roman times. They called it the silva negra, from the incredible density of foliage that turned it dark, where as terms like Schwarzfahren or Schwarzarbeit (working under the table) are negatively laden.

The bust of Confederate Gen. and KKK leader Nathan Bedford Forrest is off its pedestal and being wheeled out of the Tennessee Capitol.

Good, now they can replace it with a monument to the black Union POW’s massacred by Forrest’s men after the Battle of Fort Pillow…

SSPX has a very strong undercurrent of anti-semitism (hence why some call it ᛋᛋPX).
See also Opus Dei.
See also the International Judeo-Masonic-Communist conspiracy theory.

From #13 in the twitter thread:

13/ Mostly it is hatred of Jews he concentrates on and there is a deep theological element to this that is important to bear in mind. Williamson regularly visits Cork and was recorded blaming Jews for Covid-19 as well as manipulating the economy and other antisemitic tropes.

In fairness to Lin - and Akiva covers this in the thread - the court’s rule is intended to prevent people from recording and disseminating court proceedings without official permission. If Lin linked it from, e.g., YouTube, that’s probably not something the rule was intended to cover. With that said, the judge is already SERIOUSLY pissed off at him and all the Quacken morons, and he does himself no favors with this reply.

Looks like the GOP realized killing or sickening a bunch of their constituents might not be a good look heading into the midterms?

Or is this just dumb fucking luck and they stumbled on to the correct answer blindly after lying/misinforming the masses for months on end?

Of course, the months of misinformation have laid the groundwork for people not to trust the new govt statements in TN, which means the 180 by GOPers will take more effort to overcome than the GOP’s initial statements attacking vaccinations and masking ever did.

I really liked the novel World War Z (don’t even get me started on the film version).

I am no fan of zombie lore, but the book is mostly about human nature and how we totally fail to cope with a crisis. First we try to cover it up and deny it. Those measures back fire and actually contribute to the spread.

Then of course, when it can no longer be covered up, people panic and overreact, not trusting anything the authorities are telling them, which further helps the spread. Then we undertake ill-conceived, ineffective measures that likewise only help the ongoing crisis reach disastrous proportions.

We did not get to Zombie Apocalypse state with Covid, but we lost a lot more people that we might have otherwise for some of the very reasons mentioned above.

Iowa Race Track Announcer Canned After Racist Rant About ‘Darker Toned Skin’ Over Loudspeaker

An Iowa race track announcer has called his last event after going on a long, unhinged, racist rant over the loudspeaker last week. The diatribe—which was met with cheers by some bigots in the crowd—saw the man condemning those who “won’t stand for our flag” or plan to “take a knee” during the playing of the national anthem. “I’ve got four words for you: Find a different country if you won’t do it… Get the hell out of Dodge,” he said, miscalculating the number of words he was using. The announcer went on to complain about reports that the NFL would be playing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song considered by many as a Black American national anthem, before games. “They’re going to have another national anthem for those folks, I guess the darker toned skin color, I’ll just say Blacks,” he said. “They want a different national anthem.” The Kossuth County Speedway in Algona said its leaders “do not condone” the rant and said the unnamed man won’t announce again.

Sometimes community responsibility requires that you temper your personal freedom.

Thstats the price of not living alone on an island

Yeah: you know this, I know this, I’m sure most Lizards posting or lurking here know this: hell, I’d imagine that at the minimum, a plurality of Americans know this- the problem, though, is with the about 35% of the entire citizenry who fervently believe that “personal freedom” is paramount license, and “community responsibility” is a dangerous, if not evil foreign concept, and is only applicable in enforcing prejudices.

You know, personal responsibility is NOT the same as “Hey, I’m going to do whatever stupid shit I want to and I dare you to stop me!”.

It involves, you know, ACTUAL responsibility.

Just another word that means whatever they want it to mean that minute

Maybe the guy got the wrong idea when he was offered a job “at the race track”?

He’s NOT actually stupid. He’s just doing and saying stupid stuff to keep his base frothing because that’s how he stays in office. Most of these asshole Republicans are smart enough to know EXACTLY what they are doing.

They just don’t give a shit.

I think they’ve finally realized that if their people aren’t vaccinated, they’re going to get sick, and if their people aren’t vaccinated, they’re going to get blamed for COVID outbreaks in the future.”

— GOP pollster Frank Luntz, quoted by the Associated Press, on why Republicans are starting to more forcefully push for vaccinations.

Frank, its just theater. They’re not doing anything

While some Republicans may be using strong words to promote the vaccine, few are proposing new measures to urge vaccination, such as incentives, public information campaigns or more aggressive outreach,” the Associated Press reports.

“Cancel Culture” seems to be the exact same boat as “Class Warfare”: it only exists when those who shouldn’t have the power to exercise power band together to do so. It’s only aberrant when those who shouldn’t be powerful forget their place.

I’ve had cats since I was a teen. Now old enough to have had this experience many times. It’s hard. We outlive them by a lot. My youngest lost was 7, my oldest 23 or so. Right now I have four from 6-15. It never gets easier at the time of loss. Not ever.

The thing is time and repetition have not taken anything from the fun and joy they bring every living day. Now if I can just get the two that always lived here to be good with the two I brought from my old place it will really be all fun again.
