Jon Gomm: “Butterfly Hurricane”

Music • Views: 19,047

YouTube

I came from a tiny community of weirdos, huddled together in dark, loud nightclubs, in a freak of a town. When I moved to the big city, and was suddenly buffeted in immense clouds of faceless people and traffic, it was really scary. Every face I saw, whether static, opposite me on the train, or smearing past in a millisecond from the window - I was acutely aware that they were all someone I would never know. Feeling alone, but aware of so many lives, all affecting each other in unknowable ways. That’s what this song is about.

Look, if my friends all jumped off a bridge, I probably would too. Not because I’m a sheep, but because my friends are all fucking smart people and if they’re jumping off a bridge, I’m pretty sure they have a damn good reason and it stands to reason that I might just want to jump first and ask questions later.

In a Missouri Paper?

I’m shocked!

Editorially, we try to avoid opining about religious faith. But invoking divine guidance to advance partisan causes smacks of the worst kind of manipulation, opening the door to abuse and financial exploitation. Pentecostal and charismatic Christian leaders have laudably begun insisting that the false prophets among them cease and desist.

All it takes is a cheap website or a YouTube posting for charlatans to gain a global following. One Pinckneyville, Illinois, preacher who claims followers across North and South America posted a YouTube “prophecy” in May declaring that Trump would be reinstalled in the White House on July 4. It was, of course, nonsense.

But such quackery also can be deadly dangerous, such as when many protesters, claiming divine inspiration, joined in storming the Capitol on Jan. 6. “Jericho March” cofounder Rob Weaver was among the preachers who claimed divine guidance in directing followers toward Capitol Hill.

Old-school Coke machines will be the true survivors of the nuclear apocalypse. If you can find an intact quarter amongst the rubble of advanced civilization, your reward will be a slightly stale 12 oz can of refreshing sweetness that has not seen the light of day in 25+ years, but is all the better for the age.

Rep. Matt Gaetz’s future sister-in-law appears to have had more than enough with the Florida congressman, posting three TikTok videos in the last two days slamming him as “weird and creepy” and “a literal pedophile.”

Roxanne Luckey—the sister of Gaetz’s fiancée, Ginger Luckey—was sharply critical of the congressman and his treatment of young women, saying she “unfortunately was not surprised” to have learned Gaetz was under federal investigation for sex crimes.

In one video Monday night, Roxanne Luckey told a story about Gaetz pressuring an older man to court her when she was 19. Roxanne Luckey called the move “weird and creepy”—and she claims Gaetz yelled at her and her mother and went “full lawyer” when she confronted him.

“I saw the character and type of person he is, and when everything came out about him, I honestly, unfortunately, was not surprised,” Luckey said in one video.

It’s Huntington Beach a hotspot of the Antivaxers.

In George Pal’s 1953 version of War of the Worlds, the second Martian machine to land comes down in Huntington Beach. This prompted an Army officer at the first landing place, (some undefined but close by part of rural California) to quip “That’s a job for the Navy!” The action in HB was not shown but it is unlikely that the Earth forces there fared any better than their colleagues at the original site once the Martians deployed their heat rays.

Correction, the original landing site is indeed identified as near Linda Rosa in Riverside County. It no longer exists.

Pal and Haskin tried to do shots of the War Machines over water but they couldn’t make it look realistic.

But Pal’s version is more realistic than the crappy Tom Cruise remake.

The first location was supposed to be near Linda Rosa, the site of a no longer existing town near Murrieta and Temecula CA. It was a ghost town after the 1890s and now sits within the city limits of Murrieta.

Given your age, most of your unvaccinated friends will recover completely; a few may experience long haul covid symptoms, but it’s very unlikely that many will die. The death rate has plummeted in first world countries, because of improved understanding on how to treat this disease, and perhaps also a reduction in the average age of those infected. The news media focuses on the few younger patients who are very ill and so there may be a tendency for the public to overestimate how many will not survive. Of course, this could all change if there arises a much more lethal and contagious variant. And that is a serious problem with the unvaccinated — they can give rise to deadlier strains.

I live in the Deep South. Many of my friends are conservative and/or religious types and unless they are lying about it I’d venture a guess at least half of them are not vaccinated.

Also worth noting some of these people are older than me (late 40s / early 50s in some cases).

A woman wearing a Charlie Hebdo t-shirt has been stabbed at London’s Speakers’ Corner.

She was taken to hospital following the incident in Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon.

Widely-shared social media footage shows someone dressed in a black hooded outfit approaching the woman at the site, where people have gathered for years to listen to public debates and speeches.

The attacker makes contact with the woman then runs away as passers by attempt to intervene - even throwing objects at them as they try to escape, with a police car arriving shortly afterwards.

I am having pandemic anxiety again.

I’m having pandemic anxiety again because I’ve been unemployed since June 2020 and I was just starting to feel comfortable seriously looking for a job and then the stupids had to Make America Derp Again. I don’t feel safe sitting inside a building for 8 hours everyday and during the time I was unemployed I found a grand total of one job listing in my field that said “Work from Home until Safe” in the description.

So now I’m running out of my savings. Unemployment is giving me a run around for some reason for the past 6 weeks and hasn’t paid me (and yes I did everything I needed to for extension and opening a new case). The IRS hasn’t sent me my refund even though they got my return 12 weeks ago. And we are teetering on having the worst wingnut in the history of CA possibly becoming Governor in the middle of all of this because the GOP can only win by gaming the stupid recall provisions and they want to make California the hellscape they always claim it to be and kill us all.

I don’t know how we (not just me or my family, but the whole state) are going to get through the next 3 or 4 months.

Meanwhile everyone I know is making plans to go to concerts and conventions later this year like nothings wrong.

Am I the one that’s crazy? This has to be at least in the ball park of what gaslighting feels like.

My return was filed March 9th and my refund arrived June 30; so 16 weeks before it showed up in my checking account. A few weeks earlier, a friend also mentioned that her refund hadn’t yet arrived. Especially given that they extended the filing date by one month, there may be several problems in processing returns on a timely basis. The refund was increased by a modest amount to reflect the delay in distribution.

This makes me feel somewhat better. I have an account on the IRS website so I can log in and check on things and everyday since I started checking in the middle of May it’s said “Your 2020 tax return has not been processed” in a manner that looks scary like they are saying I’m late, followed by a bunch a verbiage about how it should take 6 weeks if you mailed it in.

I had to mail it because H&R Block told me I couldn’t E-file with a particular CARES Act Form I needed to send with it. If it’s literally taking them 3 or 4 months, it shouldn’t be telling me 6 weeks and giving me an ulcer about it.

Fox News hosts discuss how to ban ‘childless’ liberals from voting (Raw Story)

JD Vance, dog whistling that Nazi white genocide horn.

Fox News hosts on Sunday promoted the idea that “childless” Americans should not be allowed to participate in society by voting.

The idea was recently floated by Ohio Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance.

“Let’s give votes to all children in this country, but let’s give control over those votes to the parents of the children,” Vance told a conference on the Future of American Political Economy.

The hosts of Fox & Friends discussed the merits of the idea that the “childless left” should not be able to vote.

“I think it’s an interesting idea,” host Will Cain said. “I’m into interesting ideas. Let’s think about it. Let’s talk about it. He’s saying childless leaders are making decisions that are short-term in mind, not focused on the long-term future health of this country because they don’t have a stake in the game. Parents have a stake in the game, they have children so give parents a bigger say.”

When I was a teen, it was a common argument among wingnuts that the franchise needed to be bumped up to 21 or older. Why? “Science shows the brain doesn’t fully mature until 25, so these ‘kids’ are too immature to be trusted with the vote.”

When I got to my 20s, the argument moved to “The vote should be limited to those people who have jobs/are paying taxes! You shouldn’t have a say in politics unless you have ‘skin in the game!’”

Now that I’m in my 30s but without kids, chucklefucks like Vance (who is only a few months younger than myself) want to argue that those of our generation that don’t have far-right sugar daddies to help us afford to raise families should be disenfranchised because “Only parents should have the right to vote! They’re looking after their kids!”

I imagine as I reach my 40s, the next step will be “Those who aren’t independently wealthy shouldn’t be able to vote!”

I doubt that. China’s response to the pandemic has been pretty draconian — if you test positive, they move you into their newly built “quarantine palaces,” and there you stay, alone, tested twice a day until your test is negative. I don’t know exactly what kind of contact tracing they do, but I expect it’s just as thorough.

I remember almost none of the shows which premiered in 1982. I don’t even think I saw any of the shows during that year, save for remembering Kip and Hoff (which I may have watched once or twice in the dorms.)

A few classic shows did premier that year, but I’ve never watched Cheers, and only clips of Newhart.

However, there were some actors in these shows who in subsequent years would become much bigger stars.

The music is pretty lame, even with both Mancini and Schifrin still working on some of them.

Editorial: Calling out so-called ‘prophets’ who miscalled Trump’s election victory (Editorial Board of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, July 24, 2021, opinion piece)

Evangelical groups are calling their own preachers to task for a spate of so-called prophecies — nearly all in support of far-right political causes and former President Donald Trump — that never came to pass. Prominent pastors are wisely urging their colleagues to commit to standards of prophecy that reject the mixing of personal political beliefs with what they claim to be divine inspiration.

“Why were most of the prophets wrong when it came to predicting the outcome of the 2020 election?” host Jan Markell, founder of Olive Tree Ministries, asked on her “Understanding the Times” Christian radio show on June 25. She followed that question with a lengthy series of pre-election recordings in which a variety of prominent evangelical preachers claimed that God had told them Trump would be reelected.

I’ve read the Bible; atheists do it for self-defence. False prophets are supposed to be killed, preferably by stoning. Where are all of these Old Testament fire-and-brimstone preachers demanding they be stoned to death. (I know the answer to this: They actually don’t believe the horseshyte they shovel by the truckload to their parishioners. If they did believe this, someone might come for them next.)

Christians trying to get preachers to sign up to a code of standards regarding prophecy.

Prophetic Standards Statement (Goes to Prophetic Standards)

Their standards follow the preamble, which they ask Christian prophets to adhere to. (I suppose that’s more standards than psychics.)

At a time when there are many questions in the Body concerning the gift of prophecy and the ministry of the prophet, and in light of the needs of local pastors as well as individual believers to have practical guidelines for processing prophetic words, as Pentecostal and Charismatic leaders, we felt that now was the opportune moment to produce this current document.

It is not the purpose of this statement to condemn or accuse. Instead, our purpose is to help provide scriptural guidelines for the operation of the gift of prophecy and the functioning of the ministry of the prophet, while at the same time affirming the importance of these gifts and ministries.

Needless to say, the Freedom from Religion Foundation is not happy with either Democrats or Republicans recommending dogmatic religious people to the courts, especially the Supreme Court.

In light of that, FFRF is calling for an investigation into Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

FFRF calls for full investigation into Brett Kavanaugh

In the wake of bombshell reports about the FBI’s failure to fully vet Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the Freedom From Religion Foundation is calling for an investigation.

Seven senators on Thursday said that newly released materials show the FBI failed to fully investigate sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh when he was a nominee for the high court. The FBI received 4,500 tips, most of which were ignored.

Kavanaugh was credibly accused of sexual assault in an incident that the background investigation had apparently missed. Christine Blasey Ford risked her health and reputation by publicly testifying about the details of Kavanaugh assaulting her in the early 1980s, drawing death threats from Kavanaugh’s fevered supporters. Kavanaugh responded with righteous indignation, lashing out at U.S. senators who would dare to hold him accountable. “What goes around comes around,” he ominously promised.

Around the same time, it was discovered that Kavanaugh had upward of $200,000 in debt that mysteriously vanished just prior to his nomination to the high court. Given Kavanaugh’s lifestyle, it is reportedly unclear how he could have afforded to pay off these debts. This, too, must be investigated.

The FBI deserves much of the blame, but it was also hamstrung by a political process. The White House has the authority to request FBI background checks on nominees and controls the scope of that inquiry and any follow-up. This means the Trump White House, led by a man credibly accused of sexual assault by 26 women, controlled the contours of the Kavanaugh check. Kavanaugh was narrowly confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2018.

The full extent of Blasey Ford’s claims must be investigated and reported. And the shady financial dealings must be brought to light.

If the investigation shows that Kavanaugh lied to Congress, that would be grounds for impeachment. Only one Supreme Court justice, Samuel Chase in 1804, has ever been impeached, although he was acquitted by the Senate. Regardless of the outcome, a thorough investigation would help to restore public confidence in the Supreme Court and in the nomination process, and begin to heal the damage that has been done over the past four years to one of the pillars of U.S. democracy.

They GOP turned it into a matter of “innocent until proven guilty!!!” And “They are trying to ruin his life!”

This was not a criminal trial, it was a confirmation hearing to determine whether this person is a worthy candidate for a lifetime appointment to America’s highest judicial body.

Those are somewhat different standards than whether this person is a criminal or not. And denying him a seat on the SCOTUS would be an embarrassment but as far as I know would not have “ruined his life”.

As for his personal reputation, that is something he put on the line when he accepted the nomination.

Chile: Fernando Karadima, priest defrocked for sexual abuses, dies (Deutsche Welle)

He was convicted of child rape, but never served a day in prison.

Former Chilean priest Fernando Karadima, a key figure in a sexual abuse case that rocked the Catholic Church, has died at the age of 90.

According to his death certificate, Karadima died on Sunday of bronchopneumonia and kidney failure in the nursing home where he resided.

Karadima headed a parish in an upscale neighborhood of the Chilean capital, Santiago, from 1980 to 2006, forging close links to the Latin American country’s political and economic elites.

In 2010, he was accused of molesting young boys during the 1980s and 1990s.

Those allegations came to light when victims Juan Carlos Cruz, James Hamilton and Jose Andres Murillo told of the abuses they suffered.

Regarding the former priest’s death, the three victims released a statement, saying: “Everything we had to say about Karadima has been said. He was one more link in this culture of perversion and cover-up in the Church.”

Realistically, investigators could find a photo of Kavanaugh smiling as he took a big cardboard check labeled “Bribe” to pay off his debts, bank documents showing how the whole thing went down, and a signed confession from the men involved in the bribery…and the most we’d get is Susan Collins furrowing her brow as she declared she needed “more information” before she’d begin to make a decision on whether or not to agree to consider allowing a vote on whether or not to remove him from office.

Ohio football star at prestigious $16K-per-year Christian high school charged with raping sleeping girl (FOX News Channel)

Polls continually show Americans view atheists as less trustworthy than rapists.

A recently graduated high school football star at a $16,000-per-year private Christian academy in Ohio is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday after being charged with rape of a teenage girl who claims he stripped her down and raped her while she was sleeping weeks before Christmas last year.

Crosley MacEachen, an 18-year-old football recruit who had committed to play at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind., was indicted on gross sexual imposition, rape and sexual battery, according to a filing by the State of Ohio in Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas last month.

A standout football player at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy at the time, MacEachen approached the alleged victim while she was asleep at a home in Symmes Township on Dec. 6, 2020. The girl woke up around 5 a.m. to find MacEachen “on top of her,” having vaginal sexual intercourse with her, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported, citing court documents.

I had to mail it because H&R Block told me I couldn’t E-file with a particular CARES Act Form I needed to send with it. If it’s literally taking them 3 or 4 months, it shouldn’t be telling me 6 weeks and giving me an ulcer about it.

AFFIDAVIT: Suspect set house on fire because family didn’t follow Bible (KTSM-TV, El Paso)

I’m glad my neighbours didn’t try this; they only used fireworks against my house.

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - A 40-year-old man arrested for allegedly setting a West Side home on fire is charged with capital murder after his brother was killed in the incident.

The El Paso Police Department says Philip Daniel Mills set fire to a residence located at 6001 Fandango Place on Thursday at 11:30 p.m. He was arrested after police suspected him of causing the blaze.

An affidavit written by an EPPD detective says Mills allegedly admitted to setting the house on fire. And, in a recorded statement, claimed to have used gasoline from a weed eater to fuel the fire.

Mills poured the gasoline on a sofa in the living room and used a lit cloth to start the fire, according to the document.

“Once the sofa caught on fire, he walked outside the house and waited to see if his mother or brother would go outside but they didn’t,” the affidavit reads. “The defendant advised that he waited outside the residence with large rocks in his hands in the event that both his brother and mother had made it out the burning residence.”

According to the fire department, the brother did not die of smoke inhalation, he burned alive.

The mother managed to get out of the back door, she is in a hospital in critical condition from burns.

“We had to destroy it in order to save it”

According to the arrest warrant, he stood outside the house while it was burning in case his brother or mother escaped. He had a group of large rocks and intended to stone them to death.

His mother going out the back door is what saved her.

And that’s the thing. Already folks are claiming he’s “no true Christian,” but he is following the instructions of the Bible. How is following the Word of God (tm) written in black text un-Christian? Others are making an excuse he is mentally ill. That may be true, but who exploited that illness with religious teachings to turn him into a murderer? (The Bible is very clear what you’re supposed to do with unbelievers.) The Bible’s instructions are antithetical to a modern society.

The article at the El Paso television station doesn’t say whether his brother and mother are not believers, just he believed they were not living life according to the Bible’s laws.

Speculating irresponsibly and wildly, my guess is at a minimum they didn’t go to church as often as the alleged arsonist and murderer would like, or he knew they did not believe and he followed the Bible’s instructions for unbelievers.

There are millions of Christians in this country if that guy gets prison or the death penalty (being Texas) who will lionise him as a martyr to the faith.

The idea it’s only wingnut Christians who flout the law is also false. In my own area, the UU Church in Scottsbluff (arguably the most liberal of Christian churches, even moreso than the MCC), refused to close during Socttsbuff’s brief mask mandate (no church did). The argument from the UU Church wasn’t religious freedom though, it was because they rent their space to a Buddhist group and they needed the filthy lucre from the Buddhists.

That’s also the thing about the First Amendment that many Christians seem to have forgotten today.

It was not written to protect atheists, Muslims, Hindus, or others (although they existed in the colonies too).

It was written to protect Christians from both the State and each other.

a literal interpretation of the Bible’s instructions are antithetical to a modern society.

And that is where “Biblical law” differs from human law: ours is meant to be interpreted literally, but also to meant be CHANGED wherever necessary in order to Create a More Perfect Union

No. There’s a few cranks, and some might roll their eyes, but that’s about it. Unless they’re drunk, Czechs aren’t all that aggressive.

Apparently, what the government can do is simply “strongly recommend”, but they cannot mandate such a thing. Of course, private businesses are free to mandate mask-wearing in their establishments, as such a decision is entirely up to them.

Hate Christian pastor Steven Anderson is trying to get around YouTube’s ban for hate speech advocating killing LGBT+ and atheist people by instructing his followers how to get around YouTube’s ban policies. (Cut videos into snippets, post them on smaller channels or sock puppets, &c.)

He’s asking his followers to sacrifice their channels to get his hateful Christian message out. The only message he should get out is the video of him being tasered by Border Patrol.

I don’t have a YouTube account, so I can’t flag this channel with his instructions on how to evade the ban (and the video is mirrored on other small channels).

It is a violation of YouTube terms-of-service to repost banned people to your channel; one violation is sufficient to get you banned. The first person to flag this person’s upload of Steven Anderson gets a virtual Kewpie doll from me.

Of course the Christian in question banned from YouTube would then claim to be persecuted (in the country with the most churches in the world).

Deplatforming hatred works, for Nazis, bigots, and hate preachers, which is why they work so hard to get back on major platforms. They cannot spread their poison if they don’t have a large audience.

Since 2009, a preservation group called the SS United States Conservancy has been raising funds to save the ship. The group purchased her in 2011 and has drawn up several unrealized plans to restore the ship, one of which included turning the ship into a multi-purpose waterfront complex. In 2015, as its funds dwindled, the group began accepting bids to scrap the ship; however, sufficient donations came in via extended fundraising. Large donations have kept the ship berthed at its Philadelphia dock while the group continues to further investigate restoration plans.

I guess politicians everywhere love to grandstand, but at least here, they get slapped down fairly quick. Usually, it’s not even up to the courts - the showboating politician here quickly becomes an object of ridicule and derision.

The other day, Tomio Okamura, head of the SPD (Freedom and Direct Democracy Party, a far-right party), tried to say he didn’t need to be vaccinated because of his high testosterone levels. The Czech internet promptly filled up with snide comments about his “big dick energy” and otherwise ruthlessly mocking him, so much so that he deleted the Facebook post he’d made.

Where it gets fucked up is when it costs taxpayer money for some bullshit stunt.

About 15 years ago, the former leader of the Czech Social Democrats said, in a campaign speech, that everyone in the whole country would get a brand new car under their leadership. Now this was in the days before smartphones or organizing over social media, per se, but Czechs showed their contempt for such a risible stunt with people driving their piece-of-shit cars to the party’s headquarters and demanding their new vehicle on the spot.

A rare bust for defrauding the Paycheck Protection Program.

An Omaha man has been indicted on a bank fraud charge in connection with a loan application to the Paycheck Protection Program for COVID-19 relief.

M.A. Yah’s case is believed to be the first of its kind in Nebraska.

According to the indictment, Yah was the director of The Heartland News, a nonprofit newspaper focused on work with the homeless that dissolved in 2019.

The business was reinstated in March 2020, after paying its biennial fee to the secretary of state.

In court records, Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Lynch said that in April 2020, Yah requested a PPP loan of $100,800 to support the newspaper’s payroll and submitted a fraudulent application overstating the number of employees and payroll for the previous year.

On May 6, 2020, $100,800 in PPP money was deposited in the newspaper’s account at an Omaha bank.

Simone Biles is out of the Olympic finals due to apparent difficulties

TOKYO — Simone Biles was pulled from the team competition here Tuesday after an awkward, low-scoring attempt on vault, leaving the United States, which was already locked in a tough battle with Russia, in serious trouble as it seeks its third consecutive gold medal.

Biles bailed out on her expected vault, attempting just a Yurchenko 1.5. She still needed a massive bounce/stumble upon landing.

She looked to be in tears as she left the mat and then soon walked out of the arena floor with a trainer from USA Gymnastics.

She did not appear to suffer any obvious physical injury during her attempt. NBC reported that she was dealing with a “mental issue” not a physical one. USA Gymnastics would just describe it as a “medical issue.”

“Simone Biles has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue,” USA Gymnastics said in a statement. “She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”

The religious secret behind Kars4Kids.

Minnesota attorney general finds that less than 1 percent of donations to Kars4Kids charity goes to Minnesota kids (Minneapolis Star-Tribune)

Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson is taking aim at Kars4Kids, a New Jersey charity that spent less than 1 percent of the $3 million it raised from Minnesota donors on programs in the state.

The charity, one of the largest vehicle donation charities in the country and perhaps best known for its radio jingle, solicits vehicles from donors and raises money by selling and scrapping them.

But according to a compliance review issued Thursday by Swanson’s office, Kars4Kids spent just $11,600 on charitable programs for Minnesota residents from 2012 to 2014.

Swanson questioned Kars4Kids’ bookkeeping, saying that the charity had misstated the amount of money that goes to its mission, and she called into question its transparency.

“We are concerned and troubled. Minnesotans are good-hearted. They want to help a good cause,” Swanson said. “Donors need accurate and straightforward information to make informed choices.”

Kars4Kids, which operates in all 50 states, defended its practices and said it made sense to spend most of its money on the East Coast.

I would encourage anyone looking to do this to look for programs like one here in GA called Nobis Works, via the Tommy Nobis Center. My son went through their job training program via Kroger. I know, Kroger is run by assholes, but that’s not the employees. My son was actually offered a union job in the meat department via this program but got scared and nervous about it and turned it down. He learned how to navigate the interview process, what employers look for, and many other skills that have served him well. These places deserve support. Nobis works serves anyone with a disability, the program has autistic people, wounded veterans, TBI, anyone needing help with employment because of a disability. They begin in high school onward.

Skip the big charities unless you know they do what they say. So many local organizations are doing the work of angels with very little funding and help.

After the fire brigade is done cutting about twenty entries into a car, they sell it as junk to support the fire brigade (our rural fire department is actually run as a charity—our town is way too small to get a regular fire department).

That’s been the talking point from the 24/7 propaganda machine the last few days.

See also Sen. Rand Paul’s referral of Dr. Anthony Fauci to the Justice Department for criminal charges.

The point is to discredit him to their own voters, confuse those who do not normally pay attention to politics, and if he gets killed through their agitprop, well, that’s just a bonus.

The GOP and right wing echo chamber haven’t been able to dent Biden’s pandemic handling, so they’re going after Fauci now.

But appending Dr. before Navarro’s name is an attempt to purposefully mislead the audience into thinking that Navarro (who is an economics PhD) somehow has medical insights or understanding of public health that Fauci doesn’t.

As it is, Navarro has been wrong on practically every aspect of the pandemic, including the economic impacts.

“It was zero threat, right from the start, it was zero threat. Look, they went in, they shouldn’t have done it. re: #104 Targetpractice

The press made up their minds years ago, which was to buy into the talking points about “ruining his life” and “this is just sour grapes!” If an investigation into Kavanaugh’s background check and his finances was announced at 8am today, by noon the presstitutes would be waiting for the GQP-approved talking points about how any investigation is invalid because it’s “partisan,” and by the evening news it would be accepted that the whole thing is just another “witchhunt” to “destroy Trump’s legacy” by removing one of “his” justices from the bench.

The fact that the press failed to investigate the potential financial scandal demonstrates how unwilling they are to do the work to uncover more complicated more mundane flaws. They were excited to pursue the sexual improprieties of years earlier, but it’s the current financial ones that would have led to the undoing of his nomination. OTOH, if he had been rejected, his replacement would have been another RW ideologue. The failures of the press to investigate then may lead (if we’re lucky) to a forced resignation now. Hey, a girl’s got to dream!

…….

Many secular businesses also were flouting mask mandates when they could. So UU Church in Scottsbluff was probably just emulating what the non-religious establishments in their area were trying to practice. Or were the Buddhists were using the religious freedom argument?

Young white guy, expensive prep school, picked up by college football team, and with a “promising future”?

He won’t even get a slap on the wrist. He’ll get offered a sweet heart plea deal where he’ll weep bitter tears that he got caught and insist he “never meant to hurt anyone,” and then walk out of the court to a waiting car. The worst punishment he’ll ever face? His parents bawling him out for jeopardizing his future on a “piece of ass,” convinced that their little angel was the victim of a temptress and that his only crime was that he engaged in sex outside the bonds of marriage.

This is precisely what happened:

1) During my senior year in high school the King Jock was accused of raping a girl. Football Coach, Mommy and Daddy came to King Jock’s aid along with the local paper slut-shaming the girl alleging she set him up. Of course when he was arraigned the local district magistrate asked the cops if they read Miranda rights to King Jock and OOPS the police forgot to do that so King Jock was let go. And King Jock said he had a “personal relationship with J.C.”

2) When I was at Pitt in 1976 3 Super Jocks beat a black guy and gang raped his girl. Once again Football Coach came to their aid along with a complicit media and made sure they were let off the hook. Once again the 3 white guys played the JC card and got off the hook. The black girl they raped got trashed in the media as a slut.

Moral of the story is that Rome must have their gladiators.

Good lord… Just done firing off responses to someone who shared a tweet from a supposed “Swedish Grandma”…

o A grammatical/terminlogical error no Swede would make even drunk.
o Use of an abbreviation for local clinics that mostly people in the field use, and then predominately in written communication.
o Assumption that local clinics are open on weekends (only a few, “on call” ones are).
o Assumption that testing is done at special centers. They aren’t, swabs are taken at the care unit the patient is in, and processed at the usual central test processing centers or locally.
o Inflammatory question “Who has decided that we are to stop testing for Corona?”, which evokes the mental image of people at the top not knowing shit.

Like, even if we disregard the cringeworthy terminological and grammatical errors, the tweet (and others in the timeline) read like picture someone would get from hostile propaganda about Sweden, with no knowledge of the actual laws or situation on the ground here whatsoever.

Back in February 2020, SARS-CoV-2 was declared a pathogen dangerous to society (“samhällsfarlig smitta”), meaning that not testing on reasonable suspicion is a crime punishable with up to 2 years imprisonment, and with possible criminal liability if you decide not to test someone who later turns out to be infected. The declaration of SARS-CoV-2 as a pathogen dangerous to society is still in effect.

We also have the case of the “entrepeneurs” that decided to take swabs but not test them, and give patients negative test result, which is still under unraveling / preliminary investigation. Some 100,000 people. The bar to get tested is very low in order to be able to catch those that got a false negative.

Not to mention that the delta variant being in circulation means that the bar to testing for CoViD is lowered for that reason to. I have friends who have gotten tested several times because health staff didn’t want to risk mistaking CoViD for hay fever…

I frankly want to strangle JD Vance, but this is the deal—this is the same thing so many Evangelicals believe as well. If you don’t marry, if you don’t have kids, you’re not a Real Adult. On top of that, there’s a whole belief especially put on women that we failed as women because we didn’t marry and pop out children, which is our only role in this world. FUCK THAT NOISE.

JD Vance is a horrible person. I can’t decide who I hate the worst of the GOP Senatorial candidates, him or Josh Mandel….

It will also have to fight every day to defend the investigation itself, against a party determined to discredit it, to spread disinformation and to prevent any real accounting…

… What Republicans really don’t want to see illuminated is not just what happened that awful day, but the forces that produced it — the same forces that still threaten the stability of our democracy.

That’s because they see those forces — the anger and hatred, the rejection of the American system of resolving differences, the celebration of violence as a means of achieving political ends, the way social media has become such a potent instrument to spread and organize extremism — not as problems to be solved but as resources for achieving their own political goals…

Sellout’: Ron DeSantis faces backlash from anti-vax extremists as Florida becomes COVID-19 ‘hotspot’

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving asshole.

DeSantis, according to Dixon, is now “facing a backlash from the anti-vaccination wing of his political base.” Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, for example, criticized DeSantis during an appearance on the talk show “The Right Side with Doug Billings” — saying, “Don’t let political correctness get in the way of health choices.” And right-wing radio host Stew Peters called DeSantis a “sellout.”

But at the same time, some Florida-based health experts believe that with the Delta variant raging in the Sunshine State, the last thing DeSantis should be doing is criticizing expert immunologist Dr. Anthony Fauci in order to score cheap political points in MAGA World.

Gonna prove a negative, huh? The question then, is how do they know that some of those in ICU have had the vaccine? If a person walks in with the symptoms of Covid, are they just putting them in ICU without testing for the virus? How would they know then, if the person is unvaccinated and positive?
