Half a year later and the GOP lies and excuses have only multiplied and entrenched themselves

I heard Trump get up and say to the crowds “I’ll be there with you”. Why are these words not being hung around his neck?

You can call them terrorists and they should be charged with treason.

Iframe

Simone Biles pulled out of the women’s gymnastics Olympics team finals competition for mental health reasons. A winner of five Olympic medals, Biles’ reason was the pressure she carries.

The good thing is that the testimony of the officers today, along with the videos of assholes hurting the officers and destroying whatever they wanted to, might go a long way to showing the sleeping part of the public what actually happened to the police. It’s pretty hard to deny what’s happening there. Not that they won’t try, but the more this proceeds the better. Make it public as much as possible.

She’s being attacked by wingnuts too, for being a prima donna, spoiled, looking for attention, letting down the team( I thought they booed and heckled Americans at the games already), etc and so on. It’s who they are and what they do. Thus proving the point that people are reluctant to talk about mental health because of the reactions of assholes.

A flock of nightingales is a WATCH.

and a flock of crows is a MURDER

so an Australian friend of ours comes from a place near Wagga-Wagga. She tells us that “wagga” is the Aboriginal word for crow and so wagga-wagga means “many crows”

So what does “Wagga-wagga-wagga-wagga-wagga” mean in Aboriginal?

MURDER!!!

From what I’ve read, no one was prepared for the Who’s auto destruction bit at the end of their set, either. I think I read it in Dave Marsh’s Before I Get Old, but Eric Burdon said something like “I promise you, this next group will destroy in more ways than one” as he introduced the group, being one of the few people in the audience who knew what was coming.

Hey folks, if you feel like testing your psychic powers or remote viewing capabilities:

About a month ago, I bought a small LED flashlight and promptly put it somewhere “smart” so I would always know where it was in case I needed it.

Well, now I don’t exactly *need* it, but I can’t find the friggin’ thing or even come close to remember what I did with it.

So consult your tea leaves or whatever and let me know what I did with the damned thing.

I see it a lot: People who go to tons of Phish, String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, etc. shows and they show up to Umphrey’s McGee and they get scared. One of many reasons I have the band’s logo tattooed on my left calf.

His Name Was Emmett Till
In 1955, just past daybreak, a Chevrolet truck pulled up to an unmarked building. A 14-year-old child was in the back.
By Wright Thompson
Photographs by Hannah Price for The Atlantic

In 1955 an all-white, all-male jury, encouraged by the defense to do their duty as “Anglo-Saxons,” acquitted J. W. Milam and Roy Bryant. Because the defendants couldn’t be tried again, they got paid to make a confession to a national magazine—a heavily fictionalized account stage-managed by their lawyers—and Leslie Milam and his barn were written out of the story. Ask most people where Till died and they’ll say Money, Mississippi, the town where Till whistled at Bryant’s wife outside the family’s store. An Equal Justice Initiative monument in Montgomery says Money. Wikipedia does too. The Library of Congress website skips over the barn, which is just outside the town of Drew, about 45 minutes from the store.

I learned about the barn last year and have since made repeated visits, alone and with groups, once with members of Till’s family. Over and over, I drove from my home in the Mississippi hill country back into the gothic flatland where I was born. The barn’s existence conjures a complex set of reactions: It is a mourning bench for Black Americans, an unwelcome mirror for white Americans. It both repels and demands attention.

First As Tragedy, Then As Farce  Jul 27, 2021 • 4:12:03pm

Anyone want to take a stab at mapping a rational explanation onto this seemingly bizarre police encounter?

reddit.com

Short version: police roll up (literally - an SUV is driving in the grass) on a black woman obviously studying in a park gazebo and begin treating her like an ominous threat to society because 1) she is “loitering” in a part without children, and 2) because of some hypothetical situation that may occur “next week”.

Side note: if a park isn’t for “loitering” in, then I don’t know what the fuck they’re for.

Anyway, I’d love to have some follow-up on this because it just seems like the cheese slid off this cop’s cracker and the crackers of his cohorts.

As the reddit commenters suggest, does the city have an ordinance protecting certain parks or areas of parks for children only (and their accompanying guardians?)

There was a pedophile-fear fever, still going on with the usual crowd (Qanon), that has driven many places to go crazy.

These ordinances are a distraction from addressing where pedophiles truly lurk - in your churches, and in your own family gatherings.

I remember Gus from years ago…always enjoyed reading him. If I’m not mistaken, Gus was experiencing a health problem one evening long time ago. I think it was a blood clot in his leg and lizards were urging him to get help immediately which he thankfully did. All went well after couple days in hospital. Everyone was worried and asking about Gus.
(Correct me if I’m wrong, lizards, my memory is tricky sometimes.)

I actually picked my cat up today because when she came out from under the bed she collapsed on one of my hands, and I was slightly concerned. So then I lay down with her on my chest, and she loved it! She’s slept in my arms before often but never just completely on the chest. I think the up and down breathing was very relaxing for her. Then she proceeded to jailbreak the child gate and spent a couple hours god knows where, so it wasnt all smooth sailing.

re: #316 steve_davis

all right, i want to know the following things: are the people in ICU who claim they are vaccinated actually vaccinated, or are they just lying so that they don’t have to be lectured by staff? If they’ve actually been vaccinated, were they immunocompromised to the point where the vaccine just wasn’t effective, or were they between doses of pfizer or moderna, or were they inside the first week or two after the second dose? I want to have a sense of what my actual chances are of being hospitalized if I’m healthy, not immunocompromised, got both doses of pfizer, and am well past the window for when strong immunity should have kicked in. ‘Cause I’m gonna be in a small room with students this fall, some vaccinated, some not, and I don’t want to be a tragic story in the Washington Post.

Vaccinations are recorded by state governments. At least in my state, it’s done by driver’s license number or Social Security Number.

It is a trivial matter here for a hospital to ascertain whether a patient has actually been vaccinated.

One thing: One commenter has researched this well-known photo and dates it 27 June 1944. If so, it would be a V-1 strike rather than a V-2. The first V-1s hit London on June 13, 1944. The first V-2 warshot (against Paris) was not until September 7 (it failed). The first V-2 hit London the next day.

Try looking on top of your refrigerator.

She claims that she is allergic to flu shots, so she hasn’t gotten the covid jabs.
He flat out asked her if she was allergic to eggs (we know she isn’t because we’ve seen her scarf down deviled eggs). Then he told her having a reaction isn’t the same thing as being allergic.
Granddaughter is refusing the jabs because she was told the vaccine would make her sterile and she’s engaged to get married next year. Jeebus.

All I can suggest for your granddaughter is for her granddad to tell her “all conservatives lie.” No reputable source has said any such thing.

There are women who have gotten pregnant since getting vaccinated. Roughly a billion people around the world have gotten the shot, and the birth rate did not drop off a cliff.

The alternative would be harsher: If you do not get the vaccine, you cannot visit us. We will not allow you to risk our health or the health of our friends.

Read this Gus.
On you.

Who’d ever think it?
Such a squalid little ending
Watching him descending
Just as far as he can go
I’m learning things I didn’t want to know.

Who’d ever guess it?
This would be the situation
One more complication
Should be neither here nor there
I wish I had it in me not to care

Let him spill out his hate
Till he knows he’s deserted
There’s no point wasting time
Preaching to the perverted.

Simone Biles has multiple superpowers.

She’s an African American woman who has accomplished more in the sport of gymnastics than any other American ever, and white guys are nitpicking because she withdrew due to her health.

These white guys could never handle even the warmup routine Biles does in her spare time. They’d be gasping for breath.

They’re racist fuckers, and are attacking Biles and her health choice, which is also a safety choice, because if you can’t be in the right headspace to do those kinds of dangerous moves, you can seriously injure yourself in a fall.

Heck, Biles has competed while having broken bones, kidney stones, and is a sex abuse survivor (one of Nasser’s many victims - and she’s the last of his victims to be actively competing).

I think you either have it in yourself to care about other people or you don’t. These folks just don’t. And nothing will change that.

But it’s not that these people don’t care about others; it’s that they keep on hearing lies that the disease is mild; that the deaths are overstated; that it’s no different from the flu. It’s not until they experience it themselves, that they finally understand that everything they believed about COVID was wrong. Of course, this doesn’t apply to those in authority who propagate these lies from the pulpit or from the TV set or the radio or from the legislature. But certainly to those ordinary people who get their information from these sources.

The only concern I have is, when you have extreme heat and a forecast of thunderstorms, that’s a recipe for the finger of God to wipe itself across your state.

It’s depriving the brain of oxygen even if it’s mild.

Not gonna lie, it never actually occurred to me how hard those landings are until I saw the tweet upthread. I mean, I saw Kerri Strug destroy her ankle in that fateful landing in Atlanta in 1996, but I’ve seen people injure their ankles for far less, so it never really hit home to me until now.

Let us get our state troopers back first, thanks.

I think Charlie Kirk wants to be “King of the Incels.”

I guess a man ambulatory carnivorous fungus has to dream.

Empathy does not come from religion.

No, but a religion that supposedly teaches it is clearly delivering sociopaths rather than people who love their neighbor.

No, but a religion that supposedly teaches it is clearly delivering sociopaths rather than people who love their neighbor.

Because they’re no longer teaching the actual religion, but a perverted and politicized version of it that fetishizes certain aspects and ignores the rest - “the rest” being most of the basic stuff, like, “love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

Their religion has become an excuse, not a guideline.

I think that might be a case for a select few, but lack of empathy is lack of empathy. Nothing can change that.

They choose to tune in those lies. They choose to believe the lies. I’m not so generous as you.

I have a whole family who chooses to believe lies about me because of what they’ve heard over the person they know.
