Cuomo’s doing himself no favors, not that he cares. He is going to try and bluster and BS his way through his, all while giving GOPers more ammo.

He’s not above the law. He’s not indispensable. There are others who can do the job as well or better. He deserves the coming criminal investigation (which is entirely warranted). He deserves to be bankrupted too.

You can’t just claim that this is a cultural thing. We don’t accept harassment and misogyny as a cultural thing. It is wrong.

I tuned out when he started off his crap with a female relative suffering the after effects of sexual abuse and he knows from her experiences how awful it is. AND?? So he knew that and continued to sexually harass whoever he felt like harassing? Great lesson pal. Bye Bye.

Reminds me of this gem from 23 years ago.

Clinton Denies Lewinsky Allegations: | The Onion

WASHINGTON, DC—With sexual-misconduct allegations continuing to envelop his presidency, President Clinton held a press conference Monday to reiterate his strong denial of charges that he had sex with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

“We did not have sex,” said Clinton in a terse, carefully worded statement. “We made love. Sweet, sweet love.”

Clinton, who in the past has emphatically denied ever having sexual relations with Lewinsky or telling her to lie about it, held fast to his earlier remarks.

“I said that I did not have a sexual relationship with that woman, and I stand by the truth of that statement,” Clinton told reporters. “We did not, I repeat, not, have a mere sexual relationship. What the two of us shared that fateful year we spent in each other’s arms was so much more than that.”

According to Clinton, between December 1995 and April 1996, he and Lewinsky did not merely have sex. Rather, he said, they lounged luxuriously for hours in the Oval Office, reading each other poetry, feeding each other strawberries, and tenderly caressing each other about the face and neck before surrendering to desire and consummating their heartfelt passion.

re: #306 teleskiguy

I’m trying to wrap my mind around how all these GQP governors feel that somehow it’s politically advantageous to let their constituents die of preventable disease.

The strategy is to blame it on Biden and the Democrats, which they’ve been doing since the day Biden took office.

On top of that, conservatives do vote in their own interest: Racism and misogamy. Liberals are quick to ask why they “won’t vote in their own interest” making the same assumption: Everything is about money.

Conservatism is a religion, so the parishioners will go right along with what they’re told to do by their prelates, coupled with Christian churches telling them the same thing.

They don’t care how many of their own they kill, as long as they kill more of us. For the remainder, restriction of voting and gerrymandering might be enough.

President Johnson’s statement about picking a white man’s pocket applies.

People rag on so-called pulpit pimps, but the fact remains their members and followers are a significant fraction of all Christians.

If you can’t get Roman Catholics to throw in the towel over their church’s centuries-old child rape or make excuses for it (my church doesn’t do that), then Protestant ministers’ hold on their parishioners can only be assumed to be equally strong.

TULSA, Okla. — A woman from Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been arrested after police said her 12-year-old daughter had a baby with a 24-year-old man.

The Tulsa Police Department said Desiree Castaneda was charged with enabling child sex abuse and child neglect, KOKI reported.

The authorities said Castaneda knew her daughter was in a relationship with Juan Miranda-Jara and approved of it.

Police said there were photos of a baby shower that had been thrown and that the images showed the girl with Castaneda, KOKI reported.

The ideal libertarian. Huh. Never heard of one of those.

I thought it was “I’ve got mine” and “I want yours too.”

I thought it was “I’m going to dig a coal mine in my backyard and there’s nothing you can do about it because it’s my yard.”

I thought it was “there’s no such thing as a commons or public property so I can fence off this stream, or have someone arrested if their boat touches my land just because they’re having an emergency.”

The ideal libertarian tries to weaken all laws to benefit the libertarian. If you happen to benefit, great, but he ain’t doing it for you.

At the same time, he wants a robust police force to enforce his private property rights and a robust court to enforce contracts, without paying a dime in taxes for either of those.

People who stay in bad marriages, abusive marriages, “for the sake of the children”… are doing a lot of damage to the children by exposing them daily to marital dysfunction for years on end. Man, our country is so fucked up.

My wifes best friend wants to get vaccinated but she is hesitating because she thinks her husband will go ballistic on her if he finds out she got the shot.

So now my wife and I and are trying to convince her to accept an arrangement whereby her vaccination card will stay with us in a safe place so her husband won’t be able to come across it.

I think it’s going to work out but I can’t help but ask myself: WHY THE FUCK IS THIS EVEN NECESSARY??

Is there any way to not see that as a horribly abusive relationship with a person who is entirely unwell? I couldn’t bite my tongue when faced with an abusive relationship like that. I expect it’s pretty much a constant with the deranged Conservatives, but I could not just act like she should be in that relationship.

People who stay in bad marriages, abusive marriages, “for the sake of the children”… are doing a lot of damage to the children by exposing them daily to marital dysfunction for years on end. They’re modeling that abuse is okay and should be tolerated. They’re setting up their children to eventually be in bad marriages themselves, because they’ve never seen a good one.

I know. My wife and I have been happily married 13 years now and known all of the friends kids since they were born. We’ve tried to provide as strong a counterpoint as possible to their parents own marriage so they know sometimes two people can and do work together.

Correct. My family was better off after my parents split than it was when they both had me mixing drinks for them, and my mom spent most of her time watching TV in their bedroom. They married way too young because she was pregnant, and stayed together after the stillbirth. I’m just glad they didn’t split back then, or I would not exist.

re: #5 Anymouse 🌹🏡😷

This is a bit overly cynical. The issue isn’t conservatism being a religion. Poor white conservatives tend to be heavily in churches that want tithes, and the tithes are typically 10% of income. Realizing this, it suddenly becomes a lot more understandable why even middle-class white conservatives will bitch about taxes and government: many of them are already tithing 10% of their gross incomes to churches, and then taxation on top of that feels like bloody murder to them. They have a very ancient understanding of the connection between church and state, which actually stems from the eighteenth century, when priests and preachers the colonies over would teach explicitly political sermons on the necessity of rebellion from England. This carried over into the nineteenth century, with baptist churches in the south creating a slavery apologia, backed up by dubious theology (the mark of cain was black skin). And V.O. Key writes perceptively and persuasively in Southern Politics in State and Nation about how textile owners paid the salaries of the preachers who sermonized to the poor white trash about how they were one step up from the n*****, and that they needed to fight like hell to maintain that level. So it isn’t so much, I don’t think, that these people are cynically sitting around thinking about how lovely it is to be racist: they mostly don’t have shit, and they don’t have the imagination to understand that prosperity is not finite: somebody else doesn’t have to lose in order for you to win.

American Airlines and Spirit Airlines have cancelled over 1,300 flights in what’s being called a perfect storm of troubles for the carriers.

The airline industry is having a rough summer. Travel boomed when Covid restrictions were relaxed, but unfortunately for both airlines and travelers, it’s been hard to keep up with demand.

Between Sunday and Monday, severe thunderstorms hit American’s Dallas/Fort Worth International hub, reports CNBC. Travelers found themselves stuck at various airports while American canceled 850 flights and delayed another 2,000

Battles with bad weather have lasted most of the summer, with the airline cancelling hundreds of flights through the middle of July due to what the carrier says is a mix of maintenance, a labor shortage and unprecedented bad weather.

Things aren’t much better for Spirit Airlines. Between Sunday and Monday, Spirit canceled 500 flights, citing “operational challenges” as the cause. Another 258 flights are cancelled as of Tuesday morning. The hit to Spirit’s schedule is even worse, as the 258 flights add up to 38 percent of its daily schedule.

Some say they didn’t even get a notification before heading to the airport.

Meanwhile, as Good Morning America reports, the Transportation Security Administration screened more than 2.2 million people at airports on Sunday, the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic.

“Hello, and welcome to Superspreader Airlines. This is your captain speaking…”

Yeah, lawyer up… depending on your state, you’re probably entitled to a lot more than the amount of the check.

For example, in California, if you give 72 hours notice, the employer has to have your final paycheck (including any unused vacation time) for you on your last day. Every day they withhold it, you are entitled to one day’s wages.

He’s at the point of that old Onion headline: “ACLU defends Nazis’ right to burn down ACLU headquarters.”

Tucker is visiting Hungary to praise its fascist leader and extreme right wing bigotry which includes xenophobia and homophobia. Tucker isn’t in Hungary just to report on what is going on there. He’s not a journalist. Who is Glenn fooling?

Jimmy Dore.

I just started with an email to my union rep [former].

Maybe wishful thinking, but I think (and hope) you’re right here. The main difference between Cuomo’s current problems and Trump’s (any Republican’s, really) is that Democrats seem way less minded to cover up/excuse bad behavior in their elected officials. Frex, I can’t imagine an entire state GOP delegation calling for a GOP Governor to resign over sexual-harassment allegations- they’d be more likely to vote him a commendation….🤮

They would only want a GOP governor to resign in this situation if he were a gay man who sexually harassed other men. It would not be the harassment that was a problem for them.

She should seriously consider a divorce.

I have a Qidi X-Plus, a Flashforge Creator Pro 2, and an Anycubic Photon resin printer.
They all work well for what they do.

I assume you mean an Ender-3. It looks a bit like the printer I never finished assembling, but the reason for that was a failed control board rather than anything to do with the design. You can’t beat that price. It was quite a bit of work to assemble, so be prepared for that.

A couple of friends of mine are stuck in SC because American canceled their flights two days in a row. She’s a nurse, they went to a medical conference. They live in OK, so it’s not a major hub like Atlanta or Dallas. They’ve been lucky to find a hotel room, but they aren’t sure how long that will last.

My kid just decided not to go to Vegas in a couple of weeks, the bands from Finland, Norway and Sweden are having a hard time getting approval to enter the US, which was why he was going in the first place. He’s not done though, he wants to go to LA to see System of a Down and some festival in Massachusetts this fall. I have a feeling things are going to go downhill by then.

As long as he’s vaccinated that’s not a problem. I assume he’s older to have any chance of traveling to a concert, but trials are running for 5-11 year olds now, so even most young kids will have vaccines available soon.

Do you at least tell her when things she says are not based in reality?
People have come back from seeming entirely hopeless when they stop consuming far-right propaganda.

Yes, tried the “that’s just bullshit!” approach, but it doesn’t really work. Partly the problem is that yes, asylum seekers are getting bussed to different facilities, so she has that part right, but when crazy comes right at you, it’s hard to formulate the best response. I could have said something like, “pretending what you are saying is true, are you saying that illegal immigrants, and not republican babyishness about vaccines is what is causing the current surge?”
