Video: President Biden on Cuomo Sexual Harassment Report: “I Think He Should Resign”

Politics • Views: 16,020

It’s just a matter of time. Only question is whether Cuomo will choose to go down in flames instead of just going away.

President Biden is asked by a White House reporter whether New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should resign following the stat attorney general’s findings in a sexual harassment investigation.

I give Cuomo about three more days. He can’t ride this one out. He’s a disgrace and knows it.

He should have resigned months ago though. He’s been riding this out for almost a year or more.

I’m sure we’ve got some New York legal types around who can better answer questions (or not, since everything seems vague)… there doesn’t seem to be a “high crimes and misdemeanors” rule in the NY constitution, and Dems seem ready to move ahead with impeachment. The jury will be the state senate and the court of appeal (the highest court in New York). Takes a 2/3 majority, guessing Republicans will vote to convict because why wouldn’t they? Also seems like the lt gov serves as acting Governor while the impeachment is happening, though that also is rather vague

6

From a purely cynical political point of view, I could see republicans voting to acquit… that allows Cuomo to run again next year and sets up a nasty primary for the Dems. That might be the only chance they have to win the governors office next year. Convicting Cuomo and barring him from future office would allow the LT gov to take office and run as an incumbent

Speaking of the recall. Dems out here really should rally around one of the alternatives on the ballot, just in case.

Even in a low turn out election, let’s say it’s 50.3-49.7 to recall… the nightmare scenario is that someone like Larry Elder wins the replacement election with like 30% but there’s significantly fewer votes for a replacement than on the recall question. Like that 49.7% that votes no could all vote for a Dem and that person would replace Newsom (which would make me laugh and laugh and laugh)

So while watching track and field at the Olympics last night, I decided to check how the winners at events in the first modern Olympics would fare today.

The winner of the 400 meters wouldn’t have qualified for the prelims in the women’s 400 today. The winner of the 100 meters likely would have finished near the back against the women this year

The gold medalist in the triple jump would be nearly two meters behind the women’s world record that was set yesterday. The woman who won the shot put this year nearly doubled the gold medalist in 1896.

Imagine having a tardis and taking female athletes from today into the past…

You tend to label anyone who behaves badly a feral conservative wether there is any actual evidence in the story or not. I would like to point out that criming and assholishness are mostly nonpartisan.

I’ll concede this guy doesn’t appear to be a maskhole (nearly universally conservatives), but a sex assaulter (which can be people from either party, but one party incentivises it).

I tend to view certain types of crime as more conservative than liberal, because the overwhelming number of people who do them are one or the other.

Could a liberal-leaning person sexually assault air hostesses then punch a third? Sure. Could a liberal-leaning person be one of the many people we’ve seen absolutely losing their minds over masks? Sure.

But so far they haven’t been that.

Arnold was responsible for jungle primaries, and fair-and-proper drawing of districts.

Ahnold repealed the car tax and let the red ink run wild. He also tried to break unions which he failed at. He wanted to implement the school voucher system and he failed at that. It took Jerry Brown 5 years to stabilize state finances thanks to Steroid Boy’s ineptitude.

And Arnold fucked the Social Security Disability processing system in California by forcing the staff to get furloughed one day every other week. Processing time went thru the roof and cases that should have been going to the state wound up on our desks. We had a CENSORED of a time getting doctors to do consultative exams since Asshole Ahnold cut back on the reimbursements. And money appropriated by Congress to run the state Disability Determination Service was shifted by Ahnold to try to stop the red ink hemorrhaging because of his ineptitude.

One week after Jerry Brown got back in the Governor’s chair he restored the Disability Determination Service and killed the furloughs. The cases went back to them and processing times went significantly down.

That’s why I have such a low opinion of that steroid junky.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) has pardoned a couple who pointed guns at protesters passing their home last summer, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Mark McCloskey and Patricia McCloskey pleaded guilty in June to misdemeanor charges, and each were to pay fines without facing jail time. The governor has made repeated statements saying he would pardon the couple

I wonder what percentage is human training advancement and what percentage is technology. There is controversy even this year over shoe technology that is allowing runners to break world records in Tokyo. Track surfaces are different and faster. My guess is that it’s probably 65/35 for training. Most every athlete in the Olympics today is a professional and trains year round and has probably been doing so (depending on their sport) since as early as 10.

To give an example, in 1924 (the first year the 50m pool was used) the gold medalist in the 100m freestyle finished in 59 seconds. Dressel did it in 47 seconds. The suits in 1924 were basically tank tops and shorts. But that alone doesn’t make up 12 seconds

Well, she wasn’t much of a Democratic politician so much as a Democratic opportunist. The Ohio Dem party was really good to her and was moving her up the ranks when she suddenly decided she should run for Secretary of State and got clobbered. And her loyalties are truly questionable—the Clintons supported her idiotic bid for SoS and she then turned on Hillary quite dramatically.

I can’t stand her. She made several appearances during our last state convention and I walked out on each and every one of them.

And now, her fabulous record is:

Fueled by the highly contagious delta variant, COVID cases continued to escalate in Nebraska last week, marking a sixth straight week of increases.

Delta variant helping fuel rise in COVID cases in Nebraska (Omaha World-Herald, August 2, 2021)

Fueled by the highly contagious delta variant, COVID-19 cases continued to escalate in Nebraska last week, marking a sixth straight week of increases.

The state recorded 1,611 cases for the week ending Friday, up from 978 the previous week and more than double the 690 the week before that.

Cases in Nebraska increased at a faster rate than they did nationally, with Nebraska’s 65% growth in cases last week ranking 15th highest among states.

The state’s per-capita case rate, however, remained well below the national average and ranks 30th nationally. The Southern states of Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi had the nation’s highest per-capita case rates. Several states in Nebraska’s region, however, were among those experiencing the most serious outbreaks, including Missouri at No. 6, Oklahoma at No. 7, Kansas at 11 and Wyoming at 18.

Percentage positive rate was last updated July 25 for the Panhandle (private testing only, there is no public testing), at 21.1%. Fully vaccinated is 33%.

A couple days ago, the breakdown by counties was combined into Scott’s Bluff County and everything else.

Now they have removed the relative risk meter, and the community risk for all towns.

Biggest bit of damage Nina did not only to herself but to the other “progressive” candidates? Shopping around that internal campaign poll back in June showing she was “ahead” by 30%+. If she’d maintained the idea that it was a tight race and every bit counted right up until yesterday, she might have been able to roll with the usual BS about how their “outperformed expectations” by only losing by 5%. Instead, she now looks like she pissed away a huge lead and can’t explain how it happened other than blaming everybody not named “Nina Turner.”

They’ll still get fired.

Even my wingnut AG Doug Peterson put out a legal opinion following the decision that businesses could require vaccines; the opinion said a business should carefully consider their exposure to lawsuits from employees or customers.

With an approved vaccine, business owners sitting on the fence might get the push they need to mandate the vaccine for employees.

Jacobson v Massachusetts (1905, unanimous decision by the Supreme Court upholding Massachusetts’s right to require vaccination over a religious person’s claimed liberty to bow to God’s will over smallpox) also applies. That case was just used when Indiana University imposed a mandatory vaccination requirement on students; three judges appointed by Republicans upheld Indiana’s position.

With a CDC final approval, all these bullshit laws and executive orders come in conflict with Jacobson, and I don’t think even the wingnut caucus of the Supreme Court would have the stomach to overturn a 116 year-old case which was decided unanimously.

Let ‘em whinge. I predict a lot of principled stands will crumble when a job is on the line.

I never said their BS would succeed, just that they’re not going to be deterred by a little thing like reality. They’ve spent months getting forcefed this horseshit about how the vaccines are “experimental,” haven’t properly been tested, they were rushed through, and that’s why their friends keep telling them about “so-and-so down the street who got the jab one day and was dead the next.” That’s not going to change overnight, no matter how fucking stupid it makes them look.

Nah, now we’ll see the next act in the political theater that MAGAts have turned the pandemic into, the act where they claim to be fighting for the “working class” by opposing businesses mandating employee vaccination. Dickheads who once took pride in putting up signs declaring masks were banned in their businsses will now take equal pride in declaring that they refuse to impose a vaccine mandate. Major corporations will bend over backwards to try to enforce vaccine mandates while also appeasing the “hesitant” only to face mass walkouts and threats of litigation. And union bosses will scream bloody murder about how their members are going bugfuck insane over the idea of getting vaccinated.

And despite it all being perfectly legal and supported by a majority of voters…the “liberal media” will still insist that this is all a big negative for Dems in general and Biden specifically because they refuse to accept that all Repub arguments against vaccination are made in bad faith.

What’s RSV?

Respiratory syncytial virus (Wikipedia)

It is a particularly nasty mRNA viral respiratory illness which infects most children by age five, but kills millions around the world, particularly under age six months.

It also kills elderly people and immunocompromised, though not in such great numbers. Reinfections are common.

The virus was discovered in 1956, and since the Sixties a search has been on for a vaccine.

It turns out the research into vaccines for SARS-CoV-1 and 2 catapulted RSV vaccine research forward.

Anymouse 🌹🏡😷  Aug 4, 2021 • 2:01:13am

re: #139 Anymouse 🌹🏡😷

There is also a bovine version of RSV, which also infects and kills calves under six months of age.

As it turns out, the bovine and human versions are so similar that calves are the animal model for studying the disease for infants.

If GlaxoSmithKline is successful with their vaccine for humans, it might not take much of a tweek for a successful vaccine for cattle.

Although the staffers were clothed and their faces were blurred in the images, the inspector general found that the practice was largely unsupervised, “potentially placing (staffers) in danger of becoming victims.”

The inspector general found that the staffers were not certified for undercover work and that the agent had not secured written consent from the staffers whose photographs were used.

Train collision here in Czech Republic around 0800 this morning local time. Three dead, dozens injured, several of the injured are in critical condition.

According to the Czech Railways website, the accident happened around eight o’clock between the Domažlice and Blížejov stations at the Milavče station. According to the police, an express train collided with a passenger train. Three helicopters and a helicopter of the police presidium with thermal imaging intervened on the spot.

Due to the fact that one of the trains was an international express train, a number of foreigners also traveled in it, said Dagmar Brožová, spokeswoman for the Regional Police Directorate of the Pilsen Region, on Czech Television.

Rescuers subsequently said that several dozen people were injured. “Thirty-one wounded are not in danger, they have minor injuries. Four people were transported to the trauma center,” said rescue spokeswoman Mária Svobodová. Svobodová later specified that eight people were seriously injured, five more were moderately injured, though not in danger of death, and another 46 people were slightly injured.

According to the latest information from firefighters in the Pilsen region, which they posted on Twitter, five people are in critical condition and three others are moderately injured.

For some reason, Jesse decided she just needed to be with me almost the entire night last night. She’d leap down occasionally for a water/kibble break, but then she’d be back on the bed, and she wanted me on my back so that she could snuggle in the cradle of my arm, with her sharp little feet pushing against my rib cage so that she’d have exactly the amount of room she felt was needed. I love her, but I hate sleeping on my back, mostly because I just don’t.

“They approved it too quickly.”

That’s the primary reason for vaccine hesitancy here in Czech Republic; conspiracy theories are only embraced by a handful of nutburgers.

Secondary reason for vaccine hesitancy? Easy. Take a look at the sundry shenanigans Pfizer, J&J and other pharmaceutical companies have pulled….the kind of shenanigans that usually get massive judgements imposed against them. IIRC, J&J recently got pimpslapped for asbestos in their baby powder. Simply put, the vaccine hesitant (here at least) have absolutely zero trust in “Big Pharma”. Made worse, in the opinion of the vaccine hesitant, by the vaccine makers getting immunity from any potential damages (and IMHO, that really was a major mistake….as a lawyer friend of my dad once told me when I was a younger man, “Never trust anyone you can’t sue.”) And though I took the J&J vaxx, fuck no, I don’t trust them, not one iota.

As communities change, religious institutions adapt/move away. We see this repeatedly as churches and shuls are adapted for reuse as new religious facilities, or converted to nonreligious use.

I attended this shul before they closed and relocated to another community in Northern NJ. The Paterson NJ planning board approved building changes to adapt the shul and school building for a Muslim school facility. It’s a beautiful building, and I hope that the new Islamic school will respect that legacy. This building was a pillar of the community in Paterson for decades.

Don’t Let Anyone Normalize January 6

If you can shrug it off as just another incident of Trump talking too much, then you have already signed up for the next incident—and the one after that.

Meanwhile, many in the conservative world are celebrating the January 6 attackers as victims of political persecution, if not as outright heroes. The woman killed at the head of the charge to find and abduct Pence has been elevated as a martyr.

Put like that, it all sounds pretty bad.

That’s why a great deal of effort is being invested in never “putting it like that”—in finding some formula of euphemism and excuse that normalizes Trump’s attempt to keep power despite electoral defeat.

The WHO has called for a moratorium on vaccine boosters until the end of September.

The World Health Organization’s head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said the WHO is calling for a moratorium on Covid-19 vaccine boosters until at least the end of September.

He said the move was to enable that at least 10% of the population of every country was vaccinated, while WHO officials have also said it is not proven that giving booster shots to people who have already received two vaccine doses is effective in preventing the spread of Covid.

“We need instead to focus on those people who are most vulnerable, most at risk of severe disease and death, to get their first and second doses,” added Katherine O’Brien, director, immunisation vaccines and biologicals at the WHO.

theguardian.com

I get where the WHO is coming from - vaccination is seriously lagging in the developing world and we need to get that base covered or else that’s going to act as an enormous reservoir and potential breeding ground for new, and possibly vaccine resistant, variants.

They want to get at least 1 dose out to as many as possible and moving to boosters takes away from that effort.

I feel like that’s similar to when Fauci and health officials here were telling people who weren’t health care workers not to go mask up, primarily because of the shortage of masks within health care industry. Once the logistics catches up, they can get boosters going.

It’s all about mitigating risks, especially to the highest risk groups.

Roll Call: “House appropriators set aside $3.7 billion for home-state projects in fiscal 2022 spending bills, with about $2.3 billion, or 62 percent, of the earmarked funds flowing to Democratic districts.”

“Republicans punched slightly above their weight in the final tally, considering the GOP makes up about one-third of members requesting projects in the 10 appropriations bills eligible for earmarks.”

Most of the top earmarkers by dollar amount are Republicans — despite the fact that not a single GOP member voted for any of the seven bills with earmarks that passed the House as a combined package last week.”

When I worked for the County we had a Sovereign Citizen quote that to our code enforcement guys when they told him he couldn’t live in an RV and crap in a hole in the middle of a neighborhood. Spoiler Alert. He lost. Probably still in jail based on his antics.

re: #230 Dangerman

So another deathbed vaccine wish..political deathbed in this case

wait another two weeks and you’ll really be regretting it.

And what is this it just “became” law. By itself?

In any event , stop regretting and do something about it.

Issue a state of emergency declaration
Declare your own ban or exempt localities from this.
Refuse to enforce this law.
Urge businesses to implement their own mandates.
Issue vaccine mandates.
Back a court challenge.

Nah. Why lead boldly! We’ll just wish

A lot of conservative states implemented laws to prevent the executive from acting under emergency rule to prevent some goody-goody liberal from protecting people.

The number of vaccinations per day is going up. Of course there’s a hard core group that will never get the shots, but there aren’t many of them remaining alive.

Added a couple of words.

A good friend of mine tested positive yesterday. This may be the THIRD time she’s been infected (she didn’t get tested one of the previous two times she was very sick in the past year).

Guess who still refuses to get vaccinated?

About how old is she, if I may ask? Of course, it’s one person but seems to not bode well for natural immunity.

So it seems that two weekends ago my GF went with her daughter (17) to a BBQ & Board Games playing party where there were 29 people, no masks, indoors, 7 hours… all vaccinated but still one of them popped up with COVID yesterday. She’s now waiting for a test tomorrow and then results before going back into her office and hopefully her daughter goes to start her senior year on Monday. No symptoms, 10 days later and both of them have long since had both Pfiser shots.

I really wish the studies of booster shots would complete so we’d know if that would help.

in any race that isn’t close - and this was six points, the basic premise doesn’t change:
you didnt convince enough people.
and by a lot.

the analysis and dynamics are different in very close races

still, feel free to look for any excuse that helps you rationalize it

Well, to the political-junkie obsessives on left-wing social media, it’s a BFD (Horrible Tragedy/Tragic Horror) - on the scale of national (or even local) politics, probably not so much…

I wonder if any of the beast-beating pearl-clutchers on the Left ever stop to think that the voters of OH-11 may simply have liked Shontel Brown better than Nina Turner? Or thought maybe that she might do a better job in Washington?

Naaah: easier just to gripe and bitch about “The Establishment” and “Outside Money” and try to paint theior pet candidate losing an election as a resurgence of the White Terror…..

The studies right now indicate that boosters aren’t needed, but you really can’t prove that they will always be effective.

The hard part is the studies are (rightly) months behind the reality on the ground. They take time. And since “gain of function” viral research has been blamed by some for this pandemic we don’t seem to have a lab researching possibilities ahead of us. We simply await the next variant and the next.

To me the only downside to getting another vaccine is demand.

re: #272 Dangerman

to be honest… I feel like I am a really Progressive voter but there are a number of things that emanate from the so-called Progressive Left that irritate the ever-loving crap out of me…

1) they seem to think that I owe them my vote
2) they forget that politics are essentially local
3) they crap over their supposed allies during elections
4) they have their own issues with those that supposedly carry their message being the absolutely most sanctimoniously odious asshats

For the most part, I support what they support, but how they present themselves as being “my way or the highway” or the extremely unflattering comparisons to TFG (he’s a bowl of shit, whereas Biden is only a half bowl of shit) of Dem Party heavyweights when it comes to people outside of their circle is incredibly stupid AND non-productive. It’s like they’ve taken every lesson about common sense and ignored it in order to perform the lefty version of virtue signaling. When they lose, there is little to no self-reflection on how to do things better. I think there are a LOT of Progressive thinking folks out there, but those that have co-opted the banners of being in charge of delivering the message suck ass. Perhaps this is part and parcel of who the media is giving the microphone to that could very well be part of the problem.

I know that Briahna Joy and David Sirota do NOT speak for me and the fact that they get trotted out there every time a Progressive runs is why Progressives lose. Thing is, they are ingrained as to who the media believes Progressives to be.

The biggest problem is that so many of the DSA types out there don’t remember that Mike Harrington was always about working WITH the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. Not about trying to go it alone. You get nothing done if you go alone whereas if you work within the party and move to the left you do make Progress - and that’s a hint to ya Progressive types - You need to work in that system to change it. You can not do it alone.

I remember Mike…and it hurt when he split from Bayard Rustin. I was a member of the YPSL when the Socialist Party split into DSOC and Social Democrats, USA both sides hating the other and effectively helping to open the door for Pruneface Reagan.
