Conservatives still think that’s the case, having checked out of reality long ago.

I remember when white nationalist terrorists didn’t create social media content during their attack.

Last week, the world watched in horror as a pro-Trump mob, urged by the President himself, attacked the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Thousands of angry people rushed the Capitol building, overwhelming the law enforcement officers who were staged outside. They smashed windows and broke down doors; many of them flooded into the building itself. For several hours, they occupied congressional offices and triumphantly paraded through the House and Senate floors, wreaking havoc and calling for violence against and death for politicians and police officers, alike. By the end of the seditious melee, five people were dead.
One of the people there was John Brockhoeft, who posted online about his presence at the riot. Brockhoeft isn’t just any Trump supporter. He’s also a convicted anti-abortion terrorist.
His presence wasn’t a coincidence, but an example of the long-standing crossover between anti-abortion and white supremacist terrorist movements, and how America’s complacency around both has helped pave the way for this moment of terrifying insurrection.

One bit of info I picked up re Black Pickup Bomber Dope: he seems to have fairly bad timing, if he really wants to spark some sort of “confrontation” with the government: Congress is recess, SCOTUS is out of session: this is pretty much a vacation period, and the only “officials” around likely to be affected (mainly frightened into going home early) are low-level staffers - and of course, wandering tourists.

Yeah: tornados are rare in New England, but hardly unknown.
Our summer palazzo house in the Berkshires is sited only a few hundred yards from the track of the last major twister to hit the area (1995). However, since the last tornado before that was in 1947, we figured a 40-50 year probability window was not something we should worry about unduly.

The National Hurricane Center has moved the track further left for Tropical Storm Henri. It is now predicted to strike far eastern Massachusetts as a weakening hurricane on Sunday morning.

The uncertainty cone carries it as far west as western Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Afterwards, it becomes a potential threat to Nova Scotia.

World War II Veterans Memories
AMERICAN TROOPS APPROACHING THE SEINE RIVER 🥀
▪️Today, we took this incredible Then & Now photograph with my friend SNAFU DOCS in the northern part of Fontainebleau, France.
In this picture you can see elements of the 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division advancing cautiously behind a M-10 tank destroyer toward the Seine River.
The 5th Infantry Division is a less known unit since they didn’t arrive in Normandy on D-Day. However, the unit was made up of a group of brave and tenacious men who saw heavy combat during the Battle of Vidouville, Hill 183, Angers, and encounter as well as many more intense battles in the Eastern part of France, Luxembourg, and Germany.
We should never forget them.

Here’s how Gov. Inslee is handling covid this week.

Wednesday’s order expands that requirement to K -12 educators, school staff, coaches, bus drivers, school volunteers and others working in school facilities who will have to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 18 [or loose their jobs]. Since it takes time to get two shots and for the second shot to take full effect, the process must be started much earlier than that.

Higher-education staff and contractors also fall under the mandate, as well as certified, licensed and contracted early learning and child-care providers. Seattle Times

No daily testing. If you’re unvaxxed, you’re out the door. So, all is well in the socialist hellscape of Washington State.

A few of the previous idiots:

1. Dwight Watson

Dwight Ware Watson (born September 28, 1952), dubbed the “Tractor Man” in the media, is a tobacco farmer from Whitakers, North Carolina, who, in March 2003, brought much of Washington, D.C. to a standstill for two days when he drove a tractor into the pond in the Constitution Gardens area of the National Mall and claimed to have explosives. The standoff with federal and local law enforcement ended when Watson surrendered. He was subsequently convicted in federal court of making a false threat to detonate explosives and for destroying federal property, and served 16 months in prison.[

en.wikipedia.org

2. Doug Hughes

Douglas Hughes is an American former postal worker and political activist, known for landing a one-man ultralight gyrocopter on the lawn of the United States Capitol on April 15, 2015. Hughes was carrying 535 letters, one to each member of Congress, protesting what he referred to as bipartisan corruption and dysfunctional government. He surrendered peacefully after landing to the Capitol Police.

Hughes was later charged with six crimes. Hughes pleaded guilty in November 2015 to one felony and was sentenced to 120 days plus one year of probation.

In Louisiana, the New Orleans Saints start their season soon. There are currently NO capacity restrictions for the Superdome, which can hold almost 75 000 fans.

The Saints are requiring proof of vaccination of negative PCR test. Some fans who don’t want to comply are pissed the team is not offering them refunds on tickets they have already purchased.

I hope I’m wrong, but I really think football season will be the straw that breaks the camels back in terms of Covid down here.

Already seeing that with high schools shutting down in-person classrooms but still allowing the extracurricular groups to meet (i.e. football teams).

Eh, I think it’s more that they don’t really give a shit unless something goes boom.

That does seem the most likely reason. After all, if the media provide full court press, then any fanatic with a cause but without a real bomb will make similar threats to get coverage. Also, given other high profile stories — Afghanistan and Covid — the media already has its hands full on covering these other significant ongoing crises.

Hurricane Bob passed over my old apartment in the Salem Common area. I watched fleeting patches of blue sky as the eye went over. That probably won’t happen with Henri.

And wrt “weird weather in The Berkshires”; we were at our house when the eye of Hurricane Irene passed over in 2011 (tracked over Pittsfield, I believe) - yeah, seeing the rain stop, and those patches of blue sky and sunlight was quite weird. Even though we knew it would start up again….

Here in Horry County, South by dog Carolina, intelligence continues apace.

Tuesday 8/17:

Schools are prohibited from requiring masks or face coverings under a proviso written into the state budget. Horry County Schools aims to encourage them, but stopped short of a requirement. Some students and staff had their faces covered Tuesday ahead of classes beginning, but most didn’t.

Thursday, 8/19:

Two days into the school year, the district already has at least 104 active cases in students, including 12 staff cases and 51 staff members in quarantine, according to Horry County Schools (HCS) COVID-19 dashboard.

Sadly:

6 ISRAELIS KILLED IN AIRBORNE GUERRILLA RAID
November 26, 1987

In a daring airborne raid, at least one Arab guerrilla landed a motorized ”Ultralight” hang glider from Lebanon in northern Israel late Wednesday and attacked a military base, killing six Israeli soldiers and wounding at least seven, a spokesman for the military high command said.

…snip…

The first aerial infiltration of Israel occurred on March 7, 1981, when a guerrilla of the Palestine Liberation Front evaded border defenses and flew a hang glider into northern Israel, where he was captured soon after. Israeli forces thwarted an attempt by guerrillas later that year to infiltrate the country in a hot air balloon.

…snip…

Israeli military intelligence says about 200 guerrillas from several Palestinian groups have trained in Arab countries, including Libya and South Yemen, to fly combat aircraft, helicopters and motorized hang gliders.

According to a recent Israeli army report, the Palestine Liberation Organization has a tiny air force called Force 14, which includes several helicopters and transport planes.

re: #307 Rightwingconspirator

Oh, this is a real dilemma. Sanctions vs humanitarian needs. Lebanon is largely ignored in the US apart from wartime or when a massive conventional explosion takes out a big chunk of the harbor. So we get this. That’s an Al Jazeera link btw.

Hezbollah says Iranian fuel oil ship to sail to Lebanon in hours

Lebanon needs practically everything. Once vibrant and strong this place is again in big trouble. Hezbollah of course is famous in the Middle East for humanitarian and medical aid. Of course, it’s a long list of places that need help. One would think this is a very good thing, a local country helping another. But Iran and sanctions.

What will Pres. Biden do with this hot potato?

The first thing that comes to mind is this history:.

Victoria Affair

The Victoria Affair (code name Operation Iron Law) was a military operation conducted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in March 2011 in which the Israeli Navy intercepted the vessel Victoria on the international waters in the Mediterranean,[1] and discovered concealed weapons which, according to the IDF, were destined for Palestinian militant organizations in the Gaza Strip. The vessel was found to be carrying approximately 50 tons of weapons, including C-704 anti-ship missiles, rocket launchers, radar systems, mortar shells and rifle ammunition.
… snip …
Israel maintains a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, to prevent the smuggling of arms into the hands of militant organizations based there. In 2003, Israeli commandos intercepted the Karine A in the Red Sea, and seized 50 tons of missiles, mortars, rifles and ammunition which it said were destined for Gaza. In 2009, the Israeli navy intercepted the Iranian vessel Francop off the coast of Cyprus, carrying hundreds of tons of weapons.Iran is Hamas’s main arms provider, smuggling weapons overland through Sudan and Sinai in addition to using the sea route.

US Navy seizes arms shipment in Arabian Sea likely bound for Yemen

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The U.S. Navy announced Sunday it seized an arms shipment of thousands of assault weapons, machines guns and sniper rifles hidden aboard a ship in the Arabian Sea, apparently bound for Yemen to support the country’s Houthi rebels.

An American defense official told The Associated Press that the Navy’s initial investigation found the vessel came from Iran, again tying the Islamic Republic to arming the Houthis despite a United Nations arms embargo. Iran’s mission to the U.N. did not immediately respond to a request for comment, though Tehran has denied in the past giving the rebels weapons.

Are Iranian Warships Smuggling Weapons To Venezuela?

The U.S. is closely tracking an Iranian navy transport ship headed for the Caribbean — possibly Venezuela — and is prepared to take action against the delivery of any weapons which may be on board, administration officials said on Friday.

The Biden administration reserves the right to take measures, in coordination with allies in the region, to deter the transit or delivery of weapons, one of the officials said. A State Department official added that the U.S. is prepared to use sanctions against any actor that enables Iran’s provision of weapons to violent partners and proxies.

gcaptain.com

Russian Fleet Protects Iranian Ships Smuggling Arms, Israelis Say

Amid confused reports of a drone attack on an Iranian ship in the Mediterranean on its way to Syria, Iran appears to have moved its weapons shipments to Syria and Lebanon from the land — where Israel has regularly tracked and destroyed them — to ships that may be receiving protection from Russian vessels in the Mediterranean.

At the same time, defense sources here say Israel has intensified its aerial attacks on targets in Syria once the weapons are delivered by sea. The last such attack was on April 22.

Israeli defense sources here say the Iranian ships sail from the Red Sea, transit the Suez Canal and arrive in the Mediterranean. The defense sources say the ships documents claim they carry only oil, but there are indications that “oil is not the only cargo.”

Too true. Many of the 1-6 terrorists seem confused, and feeling almost betrayed, that they really, truly are facing serious charges. Remember how open they were about their intentions beforehand, displaying their weapons and tools, making blood-curdling threats as though these are normal discourse where they come from? For many of them, like Midland flower lady (a serious mayoral candidate just a couple of years ago) it probably is.

I’ve shared my recent experience privately, because stalkers & private info.

Publicly, here’s what I learned: Emergency room nurses are at “ambient rage” levels of bitterness & anger over how they’re being flooded with unvaxxed Covid patients. Fully 95% of the e-room and ICU is unvaxxed Covid.

Said patients show up deathly ill, but still screaming about Covid being a hoax. They get violent with the nurses, trying to rip off their masks and slap their hands, as their poor battered wives beg these rednecks to “calm down honey, they’re just trying to help ya.”

The hospital is at about 30% staffing levels, due to burnout, early retirement and Covid. I was extremely lucky to be there when surgeons were able to save my ass; in a month, the whole damn thing may collapse, and people like me will start to die.

Please, folks. If you have sudden pain, or a recurring condition: get it treated ASAP. The expected “Fall Viral Season” is going to demonstrated how an angry, ignorant minority can kill thousands of decent, innocent Americans.

It’s the same thing every actual public health expert is warning about. Hospitals clogged with covid patients who are combative and actively seeking to harm the very people trying to save their miserable fucking lives because they have bought all the conspiracy crap the right wing media has spewed at them.

And it affects everyone, not just covid patients.

It affects the care for everyone who needs it. Hospitals have to limit electives, so if you were going to have your hip replaced to deal with years of pain, that’s off. If you wanted to go for PT, that too may be rescheduled or put off. ERs will now do triage and realize that there’s no beds anywhere in region so you’re going to have to wait in the hall for hours before you get a bed in an ICU to deal with your heart attack because those units are full up with covid19 patients who take up more time and resources than other kinds of illnesses/injuries.

I ran into a milder version of the same thing yesterday in Weatherford. The wave front hasn’t hit here yet, though there are already plenty of cases. I decided it was a good time to take a look at the first aid and self care section of my emergency stash, an area to which I have not paid a lot of attention. Major procedures are out, of course, but even something like a stubbed toe can become serious if real medical help is not available. Preppers (some of them anyway) do all kinds of reckless, crazy things, like buy surplus field surgery kits. I have actually seen medics sewing up wounds in the field. It was traumatic even for trained and hardened veterans. I can’t imagine that suburban goobers would do more good than harm even trying.

I have actually seen medics sewing up wounds in the field. It was traumatic even for trained and hardened veterans. I can’t imagine that suburban goobers would do more good than harm even trying.

My experience with the MSF (aka “Doctors Without Borders”) medics was that they were doing what the old TV show MASH called “Meatball Surgery.” The procedures, in a nutshell:

1)Yank out foreign objects/set broken bones
2) Stop bleeding
3) Stitch up
4) Refer more complex cases to hospitals

If #4 is not available, there are a whole lotta people are going to suffer.

re: #187 Shiplord Kirel: Fan of USPS, Goodyear, and Oreo

You mentioned scheduling surgery. Even without the pandemic, for my gladder operation, it was about 2 months between diagnosis and surgery. 1-2 months appears typical for the DC area as far as I can tell.

I was fortunate because I was retired and could just be miserable at home.

I also agree with you on the prepper/survivalist medical stuff.. Practicing life-critical surgery, for the first time ever, on your loved one in an emergency is probably not a good thing.

From what I can see, the best approach for those really serious, would be to take some of various first-aid/first-responder courses, such as those offered by REI.

Additionally, many community colleges also offer paramedic qualification courses.

There are some popular survivalist books out there, for example

- Where There Is No Doctor
- Where There is no Dentist
- The Survival Medicine Handbook: THE essential guide for when medical help is NOT on the way
- Alton’s Antibiotics and Infectious Disease: The Layman’s Guide to Available Antibacterials in Austere Settings

The latter two discuss buying and stockpiling veterinary versions of anti-biotics. Which is where I suspect that Ivermectin crowd got their ideas.

Of course not. The GOP has its terrorist wing, just like Sinn Fein had the IRA during the Troubles.

Terrorism is always political, so there is always a political operation working in cahoots with the terrorists.

So they are not concerned about terror tactics themselves, but simply who is carrying them out. Or even more likely, it’s the convenient talking point to beat the drum about as the current method of maintaining power and the stream of income from the rubes who want to hear that drum beat as the reassuring sound of their perceived* social group maintaining its superiority and privilege.

* - A lot of them think they are part of the elite. But when it comes down to it the authoritarians will beat them down just like anyone else if they get in the way.

Right-wing assholes made a psychopath their hero AGAIN.

Prosecutors say a newly surfaced video taken just weeks before last year’s deadly Kenosha shootings captured the Illinois teenager Kyle Rittenhouse describing his wish to shoot at people leaving a pharmacy with an AR-15.

According to court documents obtained by Insider, prosecutors are seeking to have the judge admit the video as evidence in Rittenhouse’s upcoming trial. They argue that the video provides “crucial insight” into Rittenhouse’s state of mind in summer 2020.

The 29-second video, which has been published by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, does not show Rittenhouse’s face. The video was apparently filmed across the street from a CVS Pharmacy, where several hooded figures could be seen rushing out, clutching items.

A voice that sounds like Rittenhouse’s can be heard saying, “Bro, I wish I had my f—-ing AR. I’d start shooting rounds at them.”

Kyle Rittenhouse was recorded weeks before the Kenosha shooting saying he wished he ‘had my f—-ing AR’ to shoot at people leaving CVS, prosecutors say (Insider)

If this had been a case of “Islamic terrorism,” not only would he currently be dead, but the GQP would already be accusing Biden of having encouraged the attack by “retreating” from Afghanistan and demanding an immediate investigation.

But he’s a pasty white guy, so we get the CPD acting as though the common response to tragedy in our lives is to become a domestic terrorist while the GQP are already working to portray him as a “patriot.”

Even as a child, the only thing I liked about summer was being out of school. I stayed inside in the air-conditioning. (Living near southern swampland will encourage that behavior in summer.)

Allergies aside, spring and fall were my favorite seasons.

It is—or ought to be—a growing concern that within the nation’s various law enforcement communities there is a sympathy for right-wing groups that undermines the way those communities do their jobs. In the aftermath of the Capitol insurrection, the Brookings Institute sounded a warning about the dangers of treating one group of protestors differently than you treat another, and the dangers of the sympathy implied by the latter choice.

Most of the reason I hate tourists in this city can be summed up in one universal question (“How far is it to the beach?”) and one universal complaint (“Everything’s so expensive!”). Just keep driving east until you hit the water, and you’re at a tourist trap in the middle of summer. Now go bother somebody who gets paid to put up you.

That was the stupidest goddamn thing. President of the United Fucking States, and the best use of his time was supposed to be chopping up some crap brush on his pig farm. The same pig farm that he couldn’t get away from fast enough after we were rid of his sorry ass.

The photo-op tell was doing the brush clearing wearing cowboy boots.

Having a choice of clearing brush wearing roughout cowboy boots or work boots, I always went for the work boots.

Also, got my recall ballot in the mail the other day. Voted “no” because as mediocre as Newsom is, all the alternatives are worse. That said, I did vote for Paffrath as a replacement just in case things go tits up on the recall question

This is rather amusing. A coworker sent me some information related to a possible fraud issue with a recommendation of: “Refer to Freud group for immediate investigation.”

Gotta say, that’d be an interesting department to work in.

The fact that this yee-haw go-bomber fucker isn’t expelled from Congress tomorrow is everything you need to know as to why this country has a dire future ahead.

If any Democratic Party organized an effort to actually expel him, it wouldn’t have the overall backing to implement it. Republicans would unanimously support his call for violence. This means this country is in an actual terrorist war fully supported by 1 of the two political parties controlling our government.

Used pinball machine parts. Guy who built the bomb for him needed the plutonium for a “science experiment.”

Same stuff…… if his truck is stuffed with it, I’d agree. He said it’s his toolbox. If so not enough to be anything but a nasty anti- personal device. It won’t take a building out. Think of the U-Haul the McVey had. This is very small in comparison.
