OMG I remember that bitch!!

Prejean received nationwide attention over her response to a question about same-sex marriage during the 2009 Miss USA pageant. Prejean was asked by pageant judge Perez Hilton whether she believed every U.S. state should legalize same-sex marriage. She responded:

Well, I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And, you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that, I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman.

(snip)

Pageant organizers investigated Prejean for violating the terms of her contract after a photograph of Prejean partially nude with her back turned to the camera appeared on a celebrity gossip blog. Prejean defended the shots as legitimate modeling, and Miss USA owner Donald Trump agreed, stating, “We are in the 21st century. We have determined the pictures taken are fine” and that “in some cases the pictures were lovely.” Trump went on to compare Prejean’s views on same sex-marriage as being in line with those of President Barack Obama, and National Organization for Marriage president Maggie Gallagher stated on May 5 that the release would not affect Prejean’s role with her group.

Despite his initial support, Trump agreed to terminate Prejean’s contract on June 10, 2009, citing “continued breach of contract issues”.

“… The restrictions, which apply to any devices including phones, are a body blow to a global gaming industry that caters to tens of millions of young players in the world’s most lucrative market.

They limit under-18s to playing for one hour a day — 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. — on only Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, according to the Xinhua state news agency. They can also play for an hour, at the same time, on public holidays. …,”

This is a big deal in the e-sports world, because China has built up a fairly significant player base in many games played professionally, and now their young talent is going to be unable to log the practice time they need in order to get good.

I had the idea to go to one of the old Catskills hotels for our 50th anniversary. I called the only two remaining kosher establishments in the area. I do wonder how many we don’t hear about, wingnuts who die without making it to the news or body count websites.

And yes, this challenges all my empathy, compassion and other positive qualities. And I don’t like it and am not proud of it. But this shit will kill my husband, just from the cardiac side effects alone, even being fully vaccinated. A mild case could end with him on life support. This is coming from ALL of his doctors, a total of 5, 4 of those being specialists. We listen to people who understand medicine and science, and I am tired of those who don’t not giving a fuck. Sick MAGA lawyer representing 1/6 insurrectionists is unable to attend pretrial meetings due to covid. So someone from his office has been representing those clients. Except that the guy isn’t a lawyer. Guy is essentially impersonating a lawyer and should be brought up on charges himself as holding himself out as a lawyer.

Prosecutors have alerted the Court to this situation, because these defendants are dealing with incompetent/inadequate counsel and are still entitled to their rights.

That said, once competent counsel is found, throw the fucking book at every last motherfucking one of them.

Gee, can’t see how this will go entirely wrong:

In a first for Long Beach, fire department paramedics have recently begun helping police subdue people they believe are potentially violent or combative, sometimes by administering a powerful sedative to the person being detained.

Over the past four months, LBFD paramedics have used the drug midazolam on more than three dozen people as part of a new pilot program meant to bolster coordination between the police and fire department, city officials recently announced.

And of course, two paragraphs later:

In two high profile cases in other cities, individuals died after being restrained and then injected with a sedative, though the exact role the sedative played, if any, in the deaths is debated.

Being MAGA dumb means never having to answer that question (how dumb)?

There’s no level of dumb that the MAGAdum can’t succumb to. They’re always willing to go the extra mile of idiocy to remove all doubt about their dumbness.

Now if only the law caught up to their dumbassery and prosecuted them and disbarred the lawyers involved. As it is, Pierce is a piece of work who is as corrupt and amoral as his clients - and may actually be even a bigger con than the likes of Wood, Powell, or Rudy.

Even seditionist treasonweasels are entitled to competent legal representation. Said competent legal representation would tell these people to shut up and take the court’s mercy, because they deserve to spend the rest of their lives in prison for their antics. Said legal representation would try to get these people reduced sentences, especially those who did not assault anyone entering the building. That’s their job.

Prosecutors are also falling down on the job by giving way too sweet plea deals given the crimes involved. Even the judges are taking note of this.

Cases can be thrown out for failing to inform the court about inadequate counsel. Plea deals can be abrogated. So, it’s in the prosecution’s interest to get in front of this, especially with the number of cases involved in the 1/6 aftermath.

depending on your state, there are government agencies that deal exclusively with medical insurance claims and billing. I went thru a similar scenario of flaming hoops in getting home health care justified with the insurance company and the health care providers to get the charges illustrated properly on invoices to help delineate what was chargeable and what was not so I could get the insurance to at least cover what they were supposed to instead of a blanket denial of all services because of the lack of itemization and corresponding physician authorizations.

You might actually reach out to your local state reps office to see if there’s such an entity in existence in your state. The states are supposed to regulate this stuff so that people don’t get screwed and depending on the state (in my instance it was Oregon), they went to bat for me in dropping a word in the appropriate ears to get people off the dime.

I’m not paying this. No one told me I would be liable for a dime past the 509 I paid before the procedure. And I thought a law got passed that says surprise medical charges aren’t allowed anymore, but I am sure that won’t apply to me for reasons. Meanwhile, all the things my husband has had done or dealt with medically over the last decade or more has NEVER once been called into question.

I wouldn’t say that is true at all…

#2 we have the For The People Act ready to be brought up in the Senate, we’ll find out soon enough is Manchin and Sinema are simply posturing or are truly misguided enough to think that the GOP can be trusted to act in any kind of good faith (as they’ve relentlessly proven otherwise for the last 4 years) regarding elections and voting rights…

The scariest part about all of this is how the Dems are in fact taking action, what is not taking place is any good faith discussion in the Press or within the GOP. You want to panic about the lack of urgency, what else are they supposed to do, Dems aren’t provided the bully pulpit by the Press, when they do talk, its not reported as being “newsworthy” or given time to be presented to the nation other than as one side of the “both sides” argument and you can be damn sure when both sides are brought up, only one side is being elicited for comment and it’s NOT the Dems.

The point of an authoritarian state is to have so many confusing, contradictory, and vague rules that it is impossible to follow them all. Then the enforcement of the rules that you are undoubtedly violating somehow is based on whether someone in power wants to hurt you or not. If the state had to let you go because you were pissing them off but you were following the rules, it wouldn’t be an authoritarian state.

Chinese governance is going off the rails since Xi made himself essentially king for life. Before that, the rotation of leaders moderated and rationalized governance, and let one leader correct the fuckups of his predecessor. Now, it’s getting to be a Putin-style personal autocracy, with courtiers vying for favor and all the strivers working towards the Fuehrer. It was probably some minister’s idea to make the boss happy without any real analysis.

The important thing is we’re out of Afghanistan. 20 years and 11 months after we first went in.

19 years and 11 months, isn’t it?

I could’ve sworn we began bombing on October 7, 2001.

According to Wikipedia, 19 years, 10 months, 3 weeks, 2 days. (Yes, from 10 /7/01).

By any count, quite long enough.

So, I’ve been thinking about the recall, and I’ve decided that the twothree (because I just thought of another one) best possible outcomes are:

1. the recall fails and Elder comes in second in the replacement vote to a Democrat that nobody has ever heard of.

2. the recall succeeds and Elder comes in second in the replacement vote to a Democrat that nobody has ever heard of.

3. the recall succeeds and Elder comes in second in the replacement vote to a Democrat that nobody has ever heard of and in 2022 that Democrat nobody has ever heard of and Newsom finish 1-2 in the primary and face off in the general election.

It’s stupid shit like this new Chinese gamer law that finally create real rifts amongst the young Nationalist shitheads in a country and the autocratic leader playing them for their brain-dead nationalism.

Look for a quick reversal once Xi realizes his anti-gamer-old man mentality creates his first crisis of support amongst young Chinese males.

Haaretz: “Soon after Bennett and Biden’s photo op in the Oval Office, where the two leaders exchanged pleasantries and declarations - and where Bennett in particular spoke at length - a 22-second video clip went viral on social media, appearing to show Biden sound asleep in his armchair as Bennett addressed the media…”

“A review of the full video, however, clearly demonstrates that the video has been manipulated - hardly the first time such a thing has happened to make it appear Biden was nodding off, in accordance with Trump’s nickname for him: Sleepy Joe.”

“Biden was, in fact, wide awake - alert enough to make a cutting remark at the 13:15 mark in the clip, right after he was accused of being asleep, telling Bennett to give former President Barack Obama more credit for the good relationship between the two countries.”

After Hawley called for Biden to resign, a reporter asked him if he favored Kamala Harris becoming president. He refused to answer the question. He’s not actually stupid. The act is just for the rubes. He has a B.A. from Stanford cum laude and a J.D. from Yale. He clerked for none other than Chief Justice John Roberts. He knows exactly what happens when a president resigns. He is simply betting that his constituents are too stupid to realize that when a president resigns, the veep becomes president, not the runner-up in the election. Or maybe he is betting that 2024 Republican primary voters don’t understand what happens when a president resigns. It’s one or the other, since Hawley knows very well what happens. This is hypocrisy writ large in 72-point Bodoni bold and underlined

Hah! I hadn’t heard that one before. :)

Cajun and Zydeco dancing pre-pandemic was very popular in the Glen Echo Park in the DC region. Most Zydeco dancing that I remember involved 8 count Lindy timing (Slow-Quick-Quick Slow-Quick-Quick). But yes it can confuse jitterbug/East Coast dancers for a bit ( 6Count Slow Slow Quick-Quick).

Edited to Add - While listening to the above selection, I am wondering if a Two Step might also fit.

Oh, yes, I remember the orbital space laser theory of old! Back in the day when I spent time at what was then the James Randi Educational Forum, debunking (and laughing at) the nutters. Every theory and theorist had some kind of diagram with arrows and annotations that made them look like the crazy person we knew them to be. (My favorite was a theory that a pre-production American cruise missile was used to knock down the towers, cleverly concealed in the projection of Boeing jets. At least his was new.)

After serving as Rabbit Hash ambassador for five years, more than a third of her life, city leaders announced this weekend that Lady Stone passed.

“She has been a staunch supporter of the town online and in person, fulfilling her governmental duties in a dedicated and joyous manner. She brought much joy to visitors and those who knew her alike,” the Rabbit Hash Historical Society posted on Facebook Saturday. “Rest well, dear Lady. Mayors Goofy, Junior and Lucy Lou await you on the Rainbow Bridge.”

Following the long tradition of canine political leadership in Rabbit Hash, Lady ran for mayor in 2016, but was edged out of office by Brynneth Pawltrow, a pitbull. After the election, Lady was named an ambassador to the quirky borough in Boone County, Kentucky.

He continued to serve as ambassador under Wilbur Beast, a French bulldog, who was elected in 2020.

re: #257 Backwoods_Sleuth

See, you need to ask the guy who has endless bits of conservative religion trivia stuffed in his head (me).

The “don’t lean in” green line conspiracy appeared last year as a result of MRA “red pill” culture originating on Reddit. Republican voters and some politicians grabbed it, since the purpose is to promote misogamy.

An example:

The idea is “leaning into” a woman by a man is an example of weakness in the man. Women are supposed to be ordered by men. “Leaning in” is an example of sympathy, which you should not have for women.

As for Rep. Gozar, the meme is then used “ironically” as a dogwhistle, as in the cactus picture. He is signaling he is a misogynist to those who know the meme.

The idea of the meme is a woman is always supposed to lean into a man for support, not the other way round. (Never mind that a man might lean in to a woman simply because he loves her.)

A series of disgusting green lean-in memes were produced last year when then-candidate Joe Biden leaned over his granddaughter (and conservatives both alleged he was a paedophile and that he is obscene because he likes smelling girls’ hair, not that he was giving public attention to his granddaughter).

The implication for the Redditors and those who understand the dogwhistle is that a girl child can manipulate him.

The saguaros don’t matter. It’s the green lean-in meme that matters.

Similar to “tax cuts and smaller government” became the stand-ins for “segregation and racism.”

Anything can appear in a green lean-in meme now, because the message is understood from the lines, not the photographs, while “normies” either don’t know what it means or scratch their heads trying to figure it out.

Small cracks found in International Space Station module: report
Superficial fissures have been found in some places on the Zarya module,” Vladimir Solovyov, chief engineer of Moscow-based company Energia, the prime contractor for Russia’s human spaceflight program, told Russia’s state-owned RIA news agency, Reuters reported today (Aug. 30). “This is bad and suggests that the fissures will begin to spread over time.”

Solovyov did not say whether the cracks, which were discovered by Russian cosmonauts, have caused any air to leak from Zarya (Russian for “Dawn”), Reuters added.

The real story of all the equipment “left behind” that the media has found time to obsess about is that anything we didn’t feel was worth hauling out was either rendered inoperative or can be easily replaced. As for the stuff that belonged to the ANA, anything dependent upon electronics will be either shelved or useless within a year.

And the 2nd to last out was the charge d’affairs… not quite an ambassador, but the next ranking State Dept guy for the jurisdiction. Someone with the authority to authorize and sign visas.
