There is an excellent one in Bloomington, IN. Lots of items on the menu. The only downside was that I smelled of garlic for a couple of days. I have no idea if garlic is a central ingredient or just what I ordered. Samira, I think it was.

Coulter hooked up with Mickey Kaus, to the detriment of both probably. However, Kaus was already a standard bearer for neoliberal deconstruction of the welfare state, and Kaus’ own views on so-called illegal immigrants put him closer to Tucker Carlson than perhaps even Coulter.

Kaus was a low-level Trumper.

Coulter probably learned from Kaus that it is more profitable to be ambiguous at times.

However, as noted, Coulter has to find her own lane to grift, and so she’s a nativist and not an internationalist/interventionist, so her cheering on Biden’s decision is quite in line with her own history.

I recall once seeing a block down in Old Town that had three of them in a row. Might have been over towards roughly Catherine or South Street. (Which I guess is Society Hill and not Old Town.)

Had my internet access go south last Friday morning. Internet, ethernet, etc. drivers all corrupted and not able to find networks. Took it into a Best Buy to have it checked out and issue was confirmed along with the fact that my HD was failing as well.

Got the repaired machine back today along with a new 1 TB SSD installed*. Much faster startup and response time in general. Now have a bit of a slog to get a lost of stuff reinstalled and set back up. Plus pulling out some backup stuff to see if I can recover a bunch of files that did not get transferred over, like most of my photo and music collection.

* - Have already referred to the machine as the Computer of Theseus since I am slowly replacing the components and soon all of the original that will be left is the case.

The cell that contained tornado 3 blew past us, and got into the populated center of town. It’s showing rotation at altitude, but hasn’t dropped to the ground since doing some damage out in the county. These are small cells, about 1/3 the size of one of our counties, entrained in a line that goes out towards Mississippi.

The media can be understood in very simple terms: which is more digestible to their audience?

There’s a single point of failure that can be endlessly discussed in vague, impressionistic terms that require no specific knowledge of the war as a long-term event, only vague pop psychology and impressions about “optics”

or

There’s a long string of points of failure…as indicated by things like the SIGAR reports…suggesting a general pattern of incompetence and hubris in the class of political, intelligence, and military operatives that provide the media with access and interviews, meaning that the war is not simply ending a failure, but has been failing for a long time.

A lot of people went off the deep end after 9/11 and embraced the darkness in their rage and need for vengeance. Over a period of years, some, those capable of self-reflection and re-evaluation, gradually clawed their way back to the light. Others might have been able to fake recovering their senses for a time, but it didn’t take, probably because their self-worth was tied to their sense s of self-righteous indignation, rage, and need to be perceived as right about everything (even the things about which subsequent events proved them wrong) and climbed back on the crazy train with a vengeance.

I think one way to summarize 9/11 is that the US has acted as a malign imperial power for a long time (less malign than the USSR during the Cold War, but that isn’t saying much) and 9/11 was the first real retaliation for US imperialism that hit at home, instead of overseas (like the hostages in Iran).

Naturally the US lost its fucking mind, and nationwide the recovery since then has been disappointing. Republicans are ever deeper into their delusions, and Democrats retain the hawks/doves split.

The latter point is the main crux of the whole argument over the Iraq War - not that it absolves Bush and Cheney (and the whole scurvy PNAC/neocon gang) of the ultimate responsibility- unfortunately, there is no alternative scenario to what actually happened that does not leave Saddam Hussein and the Ba’ath regime in power in Iraq. And how that scenario would have played out is one of those great “Ifs” ……

Iraq was not Afghanistan; it was a modern country with a functioning national government, just like Germany, and not run by religious fanatics. So my naive belief was that we could do what we did in Germany: eliminate Saddam and his worst henchmen and get the nation operational. Of course, we still have forces in Germany 75 years after the war was over. So that might have been a flaw with my plans.

One interesting point I’ve seen elsewhere about this evil TX law is that the state legislature made it so plaintiff friendly that it could bite them in the ass.

In particular, plaintiff gets to choose the county to sue in, no matter where defendant is. So it would be amusing to see dozens of lawsuits for allegedly abetting abortions against every Republican state legislator that voted for this abomination filed in liberal counties where the judges aren’t likely to immediately dismiss the lawsuits as frivolous like the courts in conservative counties would.

By the way, if plaintiff lawsuits get dismissed, plaintiffs don’t have to pay defendant’s legal costs. Of course the purpose of this is to bankrupt TX abortion clinics, but they will have do some blatantly illegal shit (which has never stopped Republicans) to avoid being caught in the same trap themselves.
