I’ve spent a fair portion of my day cleaning up water in the basement. The garage is next. I’ve got a big fan downstairs I’m using to hopefully dry the carpet. A drain outside was full of storm debris and backed up along a foundation wall and ran down length of the house along that wall inside. Sigh. So we have to unclog that drain, lift the cover up with gravel and somehow stop debris from washing over the drain. Funsies.

Did I mention I truly want to move the fuck away from here?

That sounds familiar. This house was a foreclosure; and in addition, it had mold damage in the basement. When I bought it, it had no gutters (which was alarming to me already), and the drain tile along the basement on the downhill side apparently only ran along half the house. The outlet also came out onto the hillside at a point where it was easily choked with weeds, grass, and mulch. So I cleared the drain outlet, finished laying the drain tile along the basement wall, and installed gutters on the house, and have had 11 years of mold-free and water-free existence.

re: #8 Dopamine Fish

Our gutters being trashed probably didn’t help. Fortunately they got replaced yesterday, which is good for the house but not for our credit card balance. We also had to replace the garage doors that were falling apart a couple of months ago. We’ve remodeled our house completely inside and out, but time takes a toll on things. I am also worried about the chimney, it’s not looking like it’s in the best shape and will likely need repair if we put this place on the market. It’s always something….

I’m about 50/50 on that, to be honest. It definitely has an incel vibe to it, but by the same token, it’s entirely within the realm of plausibility that a philandering asshole knocked up a random waitress and now plans to exact revenge by bankrupting her.

My question about this pernicious Texas law: under what circumstances can someone who resides outside Texas be subject to this law? For example, if they send money to the woman? If they provide information to her on how to get an abortion? IANAL and would likely not understand how to interpret the provisions of the legislation. Can anyone provide under what circumstances others can be forced to defend themselves in Texas courts?

As far as I can determine, it’s bad. Anyone, anywhere in the United States, can be targeted by this law, and dragged into court in Texas. And again: The defendants are specifically prohibited from being awarded attorneys’ fees, or anything else, if they successfully defend themselves from the suit. It’s literally designed as a tool to drain the pockets of anyone perceived as pro-abortion at no or minimal cost to those who would see it upended.

Collins doing the right thing in the Kavanaugh nomination wouldn’t have changed a damn thing with respect to abortion.

Yes, we’d be spared Judge Beer, but some other Heritage Foundation list wingnut would have been put on the court, and the vote now would be exactly the same.

The TX lawlessness and its blessing by a totally corrupt wingnut SCOTUS is everything generic and mainstream Republicans have been working toward for decades.

I can’t speak for the rest of the country, but in CA, abortion became legal until a fetus is “viable,” in addition to the conditions listed, which therefore apply only to late pregnancy, when there might be a “viable” fetus.

In other words, that chart is very misleading, at least as far as CA is concerned.

Fun fact: The long-time holder of “bluest state in the nation” was… drumroll… MINNESOTA, the only state to vote against Ronald Reagan, who has voted for the Democratic candidate for President since 1976. Which is supremely ironic, since Minnesota is also a card-carrying member of the Bible Belt, and only just abolished our “dry Sunday” laws as of 2018.

I’m not sure Rocket 3 actually made it to staging. I believe it lost stability after hitting MaxQ, and may have run out of fuel while taking so long to pick up speed and gain altitude after the engine failure at liftoff

I’m not sure Rocket 3 actually made it to staging. I believe it lost stability after hitting MaxQ, and may have run out of fuel while taking so long to pick up speed and gain altitude after the engine failure at liftoff

Their guidance team deserves credit; I’ve never seen a rocket go horizontal and not explode immediately afterwards! The launch team probably wanted to avoid blowing up the rocket on the pad, like what happened to an Antares rocket a few years back.

It’s weird seeing all those people 20 years and more younger than me dying of bad judgment.

11 tweet thread.

I had been really confused by what was happening with Florida death counts in worldometer, until I finally realized that the accumulated deaths per million were consistent with higher counts while the daily counts were at a unusually low level. I was slow to understand what others discussed — exactly how the new Florida reporting scheme concealed the surge in deaths. Democrats need to shout from the rooftops that deSadist is deliberately killing the residents of his state. Florida cases are at at all time high as well as deaths.

Yeah, Arizona is one of the illegal states.

Which is why that church in my neighborhood is probably cheering right now. Because they’re one step closer to having women executed for obtaining abortions.
