Amazing Solo Acoustic Guitar Tour De Force: Jon Gomm, “Swallow You Whole”

Music • Views: 16,258

This song is weird. It’s my attempt at the calm frenzy and cold warmth of Drum & Bass. The lyrics are about being consumed by need. This music captures how weird I feel, all of the time. Always somehow chasing and fleeing at the same time.

Guitar Tab from https://jongomm.com/guitar-tabs - It comes with detailed performance notes all written by me. A complete instruction manual for this guitar tapping extravaganza.

From the album The Faintest Idea. Stream, buy CD/Vinyl/Deluxe Edition book at https://jongomm.lnk.to/TheFaintestIdea

Played on my Ibanez JGM10 guitar: https://jongomm.com/guitar

MrBWS is really impressed.
Also fascinated by how the capo is used, all the strings on the second fret except for the E that stays regular for those really low bass notes.

re: #2 Backwoods_Sleuth

Jon posted this in the YouTube comments:

The bass notes sound this way because 1) Great guitar, 2) Gauge 68 string tuned down to A, 3) Great pickups, 4) Boss OC-5 pedal, 5) great producer. If you have access to any 2 of those things, you’ll be OK.

Between Antoine Boyer and Jon Gomm, MrBWS says he’s just gonna leave his guitar in its case for a while…

Speaking of fish, a client hooked me up with two boxes of produce and fish because I fixed her network on a Saturday. Tonight had smoked Chinook. Broiled in a my cast iron skillet in butter skin side up with jaboticaba preserve to glaze. Wife Unit was in her happy place.

I had not heard of jaboticaba, so I googled it, this came up:

…snip…
One of the most common, known as red jaboticaba (although it is more of a violet color), tastes like blueberry yogurt. White jaboticabas taste like sour lychees, and Grimal jaboticabas taste like grape candy.

James Downie is calling on Democrats to be Democrats, which is sort of like the people saying “just do it” to pass gun control and immigration and vote integrity, etc. But he had one line that hit. Says even most Rs don’t expect the Supremes to approve the TX abortion law. “… the Texas bill is really a stalking horse for a Mississippi law that would ban most abortions after 15 weeks, which the court will take up next term, and which, as the Texas vote suggests, stands a good chance of resetting the landscape for reproductive rights in this country.”

There used to be a group of them in Oakton, Virginia near the old Hudson Trails building that had the most delightful scent.

Unfortunately most of the rest I have encountered locally do not seem to achieve that. For all I know, this may be a problem with the observer rather than the plant. Either way, it is a disappointment.

The person who posts this is claiming to be a RN.

But for me, this come across as some random CoViDiot/antivaxx hybrid appealing to authority by falsely claiming to be a nurse. Am I too cynical, or are my questions about the point of indefinitely keeping a placebo group a placebo group, indefinetluy trying to register any side effects of nothing (placebo group members get either saline or everything but the active part), as well as the ethics aspect of indefinetly prohibiting the placebo group members from receiving a vaccine against a potentially life-threatening communicable disease legitimate?

And it is good to know that objectively, the scent does vary betwixt various plants.

You can neither ethically ask a placebo group to remain unprotected, nor can you prevent them from getting a vaccine. It’s better to know.

I was placebo in the AstraZeneca trial — they know that I have now received the Moderna vaccine and they are still tracking and paying me.

There is no need for an infineyly long control group for any medical trial.

And, everything.

Well…
Seems factually plausible. If you had enough faith to enter a trial, now you know the vaccine works. Why would you not? True, it takes 2 years to go through a full traditional test run. But who wanted to wait, and by the way, the power of data from hundreds of millions of people is not to be underestimated either. And we could hardly wait two years in a pandemic…

A big screw you to those that take simple facts and distort them. It’s not that we cant watch for flaws, it’s that we don’t have the big control group to rule out coincidental maladies. A limitation we can literally live with

re: #25 Dangerman

My point exactly. And having read up on the procedures, there are side effects which only occur in the placebo group, i.e. nocebo effects. And some, like localized swelling and a light fever that occur in both (basically inflammation caused by the intramuscular injection, sometimes leading to a fever as the body deals with it).

32
BlueSpotinAL  Sep 6, 2021 • 11:53:28am

There is no such thing as “long term safety” for vaccines. Safety issues arise during the two weeks immediately after vaccination. The reason long term is done is because people are constantly being vaccinated over a long time period.

We don’t need a long term effect placebo group because we have plenty of years of data before the virus.

GOP’s Larry Elder shows up at anti-vaxx megachurch and declares sex education ‘has no role’ in schools

FUCK THEM! KICK THESE PULPIT PIMPS OFF THE TAX-EXEMPT GRAVY TRAIN!

TAX THE CHURCHES!

The leading Republican candidate in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recall election laid out a socially conservative vision for education, reproductive rights and transgender rights during a Sunday visit to a Placer County megachurch whose pastor has endorsed ousting the governor.

Larry Elder, the longtime radio talk show host, endorsed school choice, bashed sex education in schools, and said no state money should go toward abortions or gender affirmation surgeries.

When asked by Destiny Christian Church pastor Greg Fairrington about whether he supports the “pornographic” practice of sex education in schools, Elder said sex education has “no role in schools at all.”

He also said transgender athletes should not be able to compete in sports according to their identity, nor should transgender people be able to use the bathroom of their choice.

“Male athletes should not be competing against female athletes,” he said. “And you ought not be able to wake up one day and think you are female and use a female bathroom.”

This whole thing about “ZOMG men should have a say in their lover’s choice to have an abortion, women shouldn’t be allowed to ruin a good man’s reputation / blackmail him financially” really just needs to be addressed with that last sentence. If you are complaining about the morality of having kids outside of marriage, then you need to put the blame on the philandering prick who knocked her up. If sex without marriage is cool, then you need to be cool with the consequences of your actions, as well.

Or learn how to operate a condom.

Men like this guy don’t want to do that, because sex is about 1) power and 2) their own pleasure. They like the thrill, the risk of impregnating a woman, of her fate being in his control, and many men complain that intercourse is less pleasurable when wearing a condom. Note that nowhere in here is any mention of the rights of the woman not to be impregnated.

Attorney General Merrick Garland pledged Monday to protect abortion clinics in Texas by enforcing a federal law that prohibits making threats against patients seeking reproductive health services and obstructing clinic entrances.
While the Justice Department continues to explore legal avenues for challenging the six-week abortion ban in Texas, Garland said in a statement that the department has reached out to US attorneys’ offices and FBI field offices in Texas and across the country.
“The department will provide support from federal law enforcement when an abortion clinic or reproductive health center is under attack,” Garland said. “We will not tolerate violence against those seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services, physical obstruction or property damage in violation of the FACE Act.”

The FACE Act “prohibits the use or threat of force and physical obstruction that injures, intimidates, or interferes with a person seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services,” Garland said in the statement. It also prohibits property damage of a facility providing reproductive health services.

“The department has consistently obtained criminal and civil remedies for violations of the FACE Act since it was signed into law in 1994, and it will continue to do so now,” Garland said.

Last week it showed as having burned through the campground. It is beautiful up there. There’s about a 2 week window in earl spring that you can book a campsite before they’re booked up for the whole year.

Never used that method. I’ll try it next time I bake a game hen. Tonight’s dinner is what Beckie called “fish & chips”. Place a thawed salmon filet into a foil pouch (with butter & other spices as requested). Bake at the same temp & time to cook the tots. Done. Add veggie(s) if desired. Last night was a very good night and not just for me! Next Monday my wife, our two adult kids and myself are taking off on a week and a half trip across eastern Oregon, southern Idaho, Yellowstone/Wyoming, central Montana, Spokane, WA and Portland, OR before returning home to Brookings, OR. Last night I called a large hotel chain’s reservation line to set up lodging for the trip. This chain has hotels in all but two of the places we are going and are pet friendly so it was a no-brainer to use them. That and my wife has a rewards card with them so discount rates!

A young lady answered the call and I explained what was up and what we needed. I mentioned that we were going to see my wife’s 96 and 97 year old Uncles and members of my extended family. I added that while everyone we are seeing is vaccinated, I am still nervous because we will be running a gauntlet of stupid. She laughed at that and then asked me if she could ask a few questions about us getting the vaccine. I said “Sure!” and she followed up with wanting to know which vaccine we had received (J&J). She wanted to know how it went (arm sore for a day, a little off for that same day and right back to normal). I joked about no other side effects except for a craving for J&J cotton balls and baby oil, and that the tail fell off after 15 minutes. That had her laughing out loud.

We talked a bit about why I got it; that I already had COVID/Jan 2020 and it hit me so hard that it scared the crap out of me, that my lungs were damaged by it and that I’m reminded about it every time I take a breath. Plus I have several co-morbidities (COPD, RA, HBP) and that is why it hit me so hard when I got it. I also told her that my post-COVID problems eased within three weeks of getting my shot. She told me that she’s been vaccine hesitant but after our conversation she’s decided to get the shot because she wants to protect her parents, both of whom have co-morbidities like I do.

We then talked briefly about the differences between the mRNA and Janssen vaccines. I explained that while the mRNA technique sounds new, the technology has been under study for over 20 years. And that the Janssen process is the ‘old school’ method of making a vaccine. I recommended either type and she wants to find a place that has the J&J as she has read that the reactions are milder. We did eventually get around to reserving the rooms we needed (which they had!) and wrapped up the call, wishing each other to be safe. Before ending the call, I asked her if she visits Reddit. Yup! I then advised her to visit r/HermanCainAward if she wanted to remove any doubt about her decision. She subscribed before I hung up!

I am so happy that I was able to answer her questions and assure her with what I know so that she made the right decision for herself and those she loves.

Freakin’ rocks! That is all… 😎

Today’s piece of detective work for a Facebook pal.

A Facebook pal was curious if this sidewalk print of Art Linkletter, Groucho Marx and John Guedel was still at the site of Guedel’s production offices. Guedel produced Art Linkletter’s People are Funny and also Groucho’s immortal YOU BET YOUR LIFE!

Today I decided to do some detective work. Since there are no Google hits as to where Guedel’s office was on Beverly Blvd except for a clue that the office was a couple blocks east of the Beverly Center Shopping Mall I decided to do a lot of walking on Beverly Boulevard between La Cienega and Fairfax. And sure enough when I got to 8323 Beverly I found it still intact although Guedel’s office had long ago been torn down and replaced with a typical office building

As I snapped this pic, I said GROUCHO WAS HERE!!!!!!

Now a new mystery about those sidewalk prints. It looks like “I A” was inscribed on the bottom. Could that “I A” be Irwin Allen who was Groucho’s agent????????

Unless I’m totally misinformed, the J&J Vaccine isn’t really the “old school” method of making vaccines. It’s still an mRNA vaccine, but instead of encasing the RNA in a lipid container, it’s inserted into an Adenovirus as it’s method of getting into the cells.

It might not be technically mRNA (I think it is, at least it’s not DNA anyway), but I do know part of the COVID genome is placed into an Adenovirus that is stripped of its ability to replicate or cause cell death.

Reminds me of a visit to my local barbershop many years ago. The plaza with the barbershop also had a self described “Christian Bookstore” at that time.

One day the barber described his most recent encounter with the proprietor of that bookstore.

He said that he was leaving the plaza when suddenly a car sped down the parking lot and cut him off just before the exit. The driver then rolled down her window, it was the bookstore proprietor, and, as the barber described it “She called me everything but Christian”.

Although I’d like to think this was true, because it would be fucking hilarious, that study is even worse than the ones that led to people using it in the first place. Sample size is way too small to get real data from among a list of research sins.

Damn. Now I’ve got a serious case of the sadz.

For some reason the phrase “Possum Hollar” set my mind off on weird place names from Buffalo Lick, West Virginia to Toad Suck, Arkansas.

(For the record, I am not recommending either activity memorialized in the above mentioned places names.)

We live near greater metropolitan Two Egg. Wife and I made a point of dropping a sign there when we were helping Florida for the HRC campaign.

Bad guys in action movies often go to a vet’s office to get stitches, antibiotics, instruments to remove the bullet… (then they kill the vet, but at least they’ve avoided the ER and mandatory reporting)

That’s right, they are not to far away from you… At least geographically.

A few years back I and a lady friend spent a weekend in Paradise (Pa) at a meet up with her family who had come down from New York and up from Alabama. What I remember was how badly congested the traffic on US 30 was. Particularly the huge amount of semi’s. And that was before considering what the Amish horse buggies contributed to the mix.

females don’t bother to look like males.
Ratio is about three males to a bazillion females.
And the females rule everything here.
I’ve seen them take on cardinals and wasps and anything else that flies.
This morning they were fussing all over the momma deer and two fawns chowing down on the jewelweed in the backyard.

but that’s just for bullet holes and stab wounds, not general sickness

Gay, GA had a hard time keeping their town signs from being stolen for awhile. The Gay family was the most prominent and thus gave the town their name, but I think it was a cutesy teenage thing to do in the 1990s.

Area around Lancaster is some of the worst traffic I have ever seen.
