re: #141 Juan Carlos Mescalero

After I got locked out for a week I insulted a Proud Boy post and got locked out again.
I targeted a Nazi. I guess it’s bad form.
I might have my account up by the weekend.
Maybe. I seriously question the worth of it.
I got an account smoked for saying less than Stonekettle does.
Like this.

I got thrown off Twitter for less.
But then again, who the fuck am I?

Vicious Babushka got suspended from Twitter for “breaking the rules” but Twitter never bothered to explain which rule in particular. After checking all of VB’s Tweets on the day of the suspension, I have concluded it may have had something to do with calling Tomi Lahren “Gestapo Barbie” and then getting mass reported by her gang of brownshirts.

Liddle Pie Overlord never replies or quote-Tweets Trumporrhoids, just takes a screenshot.

Watching an interesting Sikh historical war movie (Kesari) on Amazon prime.
“Rachit Gupta of The Times of India gave Kesari four stars out of five, praising its “technical brilliance, intricate writing and thundering performances”
Some Muslim reviewers panned it as overly Hindu nationalist.

I suggested a goon with two sidearms, another pistol in his back belt, a fistful of keys and a chain drive wallet might trip and shoot himself.

re: #7 Dopamine Fish

Ooh, I like the sound of that.

And today I learned:

The chotta Chakkar or chakram (the small ring) is a steel ring, 5 - 12 inches in diameter of varying thickness. When used in battle, it usually has a sharp outer edge, but for ceremonial purposes, the outer edge is left blunt. It is classified as a quoit-type weapon which is thrown or hurled, either by being released after being twirled around the smooth inside edge by the forefinger (a favourite Sikh method) or released frisbee-like or discus style. It has an effective range of 40 to 50 metres.

From about the 16th century onwards, it seems to be a weapon exclusively used by the Sikh military. Used in volley fire fashion by trained footmen in the centuries before Britain imposed its rule, it continued to be a viable part of the Sikh inventory at least in part as late as the 19th century. George Cameron Stone, writing in 1934 of a Sikh military exhibition he had witnessed many years prior, described the skilled use of the weapon from a distance of 50 metres, where trained warriors struck an archery-like target and usually hit their mark.

If they do, it will be an obvious sham. I don’t know if they’d be that bold right now, so soon after Texas. They might not even be OK with the Republican party’s propagandists talking their marks into mass-suicide as a political ploy. They’re supposed to take a longer view, and being a death cult is not a good long-term plan.

Remember when Republicans said that Obamacare would trigger death panels?

And now look at the situation in those Xtian Red states where the ERs are overflowing…and those hospitals are at the breaking point where they WILL trigger death panels!

I still have memories of hospital review panels that were set up before Medicare covered dialysis and kidney transplants. They had “Ethics Panels” deciding who would get access to dialysis machines. They WERE death panels…

I remember reading about a study that compared local folklore and family legends about losses to Sherman’s army with the actual progress of his army. It found a majority of the stories involved locations that Sherman’s troops were not likely to have visited. Sherman atrocity/family loss stories that could be pinpointed geographically were an average of 60 miles from his known and documented line of march. He had the exalted status of boogeyman to generations of rural southern whites.

Well, he was definitely in Columbia, SC. And I always liked staying at the old Clarion Hotel.

On February 17, 1865, the soldiers from Union General William Tecumseh Sherman’s army ransack Columbia, South Carolina, and leave a charred city in their wake.

After spending a month in Savannah, Sherman headed north to tear the Confederacy into smaller pieces. The Yankee soldiers took particular delight in carrying the war to South Carolina, the symbol of the rebellion. It was the first state to secede and the site of Fort Sumter, where South Carolinians fired on the Federal garrison to start the war in April 1861. When Confederate General Wade Hampton’s cavalry evacuated Columbia, the capital was open to Sherman’s men…Sherman claimed that the raging fires were started by evacuating Confederates and fanned by high winds. He later wrote: “Though I never ordered it and never wished it, I have never shed any tears over the event, because I believe that it hastened what we all fought for, the end of the War.”

But realistically, what’s got Joe’s nethers in a bind is the pay-for in the reconciliation bill, namely tax increases on the upper brackets of the tax code, people who are whispering dark little threats in Joe’s ear about how they’re gonna dump mountains of dark money into the WV Senate race in ‘24 unless he makes those tax increases go away. So he’s trying to drag down the total cost of the bill in order to argue that the tax increases are “unnecessary” and the money can be found under the couch cushions.

One of the constant of politics is the media is forever in search of that one candidate who will finally make a third party viable in American politics. They spend the time between presidential elections talking incessently about how this person or that one will be the candidate who finally breaks the dam and begins the flood of third parties in America…and then they perform so terribly that they barely get above 2% and it’s back to “Well, maybe this guy will be the one!”

The worldometer daily death counts from Florida are meaningless for purposes of tracking what’s going on, but Florida does report total deaths a couple times a week, so I pay attention to the deaths per million. They were always well behind my state Illinois; but then a week ago or so I suddenly noticed that the rate had passed us. We tend to creep up by 1-4 a day. Yesterday Florida was at 2,187 — and today? — the number is 2,248, as a consequence of the retroactive updates. If this continues, it may challenge some of the East Coast states whose high numbers reflect the devastation of the first wave, before we knew how to deal with treating the pandemic.

Julianne was a very good competitor in “dancesport” when she was younger, though her brother got more of the praise as time went by.

But she’s now spent years in the celebrity fish-tank, being known only for being known.

The vacuity of the celebrity worship in our current society is obvious to many. But for those whose lives are about being a celebrity for the sake of being a celebrity there is probably no out.

As for the new mini-series - it sounds like it will fail quickly.

Reality TV is all about failures, with a few successes. But networks love them because as far as TV shows go they are cheaper to produce than the older, cinematic style of production (which often require actors who are talented and scriptwriters who know how to tell a story.)

Mind you…this already happens with private charities handing out grants, if you look at the internal process. More than a few charity’s I’ve volunteered for there’s been donors that have acting as the roadblock to certain kinds of money allocation (because even after it’s in the coffers then can use future donations as leverage), and ones where the grant committee is basically just donors working through their feelings.

Programming note regarding LGF, Twitter, and other Websites using Firefox for Windows.

The Twitter windows on my computer no longer open to Twitter when clicking on the the date. It overwrites the current tab and only displays the Twitter logo in the centre of the window.

The same thing happens upon clicking on a comment number which would go higher up in the comment thread.

The YouTube clip here only shows as the YouTube bar; clicking on it overwrites the tab but does not play.

Right-clicking on any of these will open a new tab but not open anything.

Copying any of these links and pasting them into either Internet Explorer or into Microsoft Edge works fine.

This started happening last night. A new Firefox update came out later which I downloaded but that did not fix the problem.

I tried reloading Firefox from scratch; no joy.

This problem doesn’t happen on any other Website. My presumption is that something broke between Firefox and LGF.

Again, if you want to honor Robert E Lee or anyone else who fought for the Confederate cause on private property and at your own expense, I guess that is your good right, and nobody is coming to take that away.

But the motivation of the individual soldiers notwithstanding, we must recognize that the cause they were sent to fight for by their government was clearly based on White Supremacy and Slavery.

We cannot grant those concepts any cachet of approval by allowing monuments to the Confederacy or its soldiers & supporters on public land or paid for with public funds.

The Nebraska Panhandle Tropical Update.

There is no tropical weather expected in the Old West.

That is not the case for the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Gulf of Mexico however.

Tropical Depression Mindy has been declared extra-tropical, well east of South Carolina. The storm is expected to move ENE for another day or so before it dissipates.

Five Day Graphical Tropical Outlook (HTML typed by hand because there is no link button)

A tropical wave is moving off the coast of Honduras into the Gulf of Honduras. That storm has a moderate chance of developing into a tropical cyclone after moving across the Yucatan Peninsula. Upon emerging into the Bay of Campeche, the National Hurricane Center considers it a risk for northeast Mexico and the Texas coastline. People here might want to keep one eye pointed south.

A second tropical wave currently over Ghana is about to move out over the Atlantic. The storm has a high probability of become a tropical cyclone almost immediately, and is predicted to move WNW.

Hurricane Larry is speeding away from Bermuda and approaching Newfoundland over the Gulf Stream. It will pass east of Nova Scotia today and hit Newfoundland tonight. Folks all along the East Coast should be prepared for dangerous waves arriving today. A hurricane warning is posted for portions of Newfoundland. Due to the rapid forward speed, damage could be significant east of thee eye as the storm lands in Newfoundland, along with significant storm surge. As the storm is moving so fast, only about two inches (50 mm) of rain is expected to fall along the path of Larry. After exiting Newfoundland, the hurricane is expected to become extra-tropical, then be absorbed by a larger low pressure system east of Greenland.

Okay I’m back in safe mode. Everything seems to be working fine now (all the edit buttons are there, the little check boxes for “auto” and “show E-mail” are there, &c), so I guess one of my add-ons went wonky. That’s actually something I can fix with my limited computer ability (shut off add-ons until I find the one which went bad).

Strange, the add-on was for a one-click toggling Java Script on or off, which I’ve had for quite a while. It never caused trouble before, so I assume the previous update to the last one broke the add-on.

Lynn Parramore: “Why Aren’t Libertarians Protesting the Freedom-Busting Texas Abortion Law?”

In his 1982 book, “The Ethics of Liberty,” libertarian economist Murray Rothbard wrote that “the proper groundwork for analysis of abortion is in every man’s absolute right of self-ownership. This implies immediately that every woman has the absolute right to her own body, that she has absolute dominion over her body and everything in it. This includes the fetus.”

That’s clear enough. Now is the chance for libertarians to stand up for what they believe, stated thus since 2008 in the official Libertarian Party platform:

“Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration.”

Got it. My decision to give birth is for me to decide, not the state. Very reasonable.

Let’s check out how America’s most influential libertarians have been responding to the Texas Taliban and the most flagrant disregard for a woman’s personal liberty seen in a generation.

Give it to them, guys!

To get their take, I first consulted a list of libertarian heavyweights put together by Newsmax. Helpfully, the editors share their criteria for selection:

“To compile this list, our editors defined a libertarian as a consistent advocate of free-market capitalism, minimal government, and social tolerance (thus distinguishing libertarians from conservatives). Their motto might be “Keep government out of the boardroom and the bedroom.”
Social tolerance! Out of the bedroom! Right on.

According to Newsmax, the two top libertarians are former congressman Ron Paul and his son, Senator Rand Paul.

Ron Paul styled his 2008 run for the presidency as a “Campaign for Liberty.” Yet on the stump, he consistently denounced a woman’s right to make the most private decisions of her life. He wrote a book called “Liberty Defined,” but surprisingly, his definition did not include a woman’s sovereignty over her own body. Instead, he complained that taxpayers should be at liberty not to pay for abortions.

Like a good libertarian, Paul is very clear in the book that torture of any sort is reprehensible and sadistic. Yet oddly, he does not consider that torture might be a proper word to describe what is done to a woman forced to undergo an extremely painful and potentially life-threatening physical experience against her will.

On abortion, Senator Rand Paul goes even further afield of libertarian principles than his dad, calling himself “totally pro-life” and supporting “any and all legislation that would end abortion or lead us in the direction of ending abortion.” In fact, he wants federal control of women’s bodies, stating, “I believe in a Human Life Amendment and a Life at Conception Act as federal solutions to the abortion issue.”

It turns out that America’s most influential libertarian politicians are in strong opposition to the party’s own platform and principles.

More Lubereterian/Cognitive dissonance in article.

re: #156 Eric The Fruit Bat

Well, you have libertarians, then you have Libertarians.

I normally distinguish between conservatives who hijack the parts of libertarianism they like, and the Libertarian Party.

For example, Reason has forcefully condemned the Texas abortion law, noting it violates so-called conservative principles (note to Reason: the only conservative principle is gaining and exercising power).

The Texas Abortion Ban Violates Conservative Principles (Reason, September 8, 2021)

The Texas “heartbeat” bill that the Supreme Court declined to block last week is almost as restrictive as the Texas law that the Court overturned half a century ago in Roe v. Wade. The fact that it nevertheless took effect is a remarkable victory for the anti-abortion cause, made possible by an innovative enforcement mechanism that relies on private litigation.

That victory, however, required embracing tactics that conservatives have long condemned. S.B. 8 invites lawsuits by financially incentivized plaintiffs who need not claim any personal injury, rigs the rules in their favor, establishes vague liability theories that threaten freedom of speech, and offers a model for attacking other rights that the Supreme Court has said are protected by the Constitution.

The Texas law at issue in Roe prohibited abortion except when it was necessary to save the mother’s life. S.B. 8 bans abortion after fetal cardiac activity can be detected, which happens around six weeks into a pregnancy, long before “viability” and before many women even realize they are pregnant.

The Libertarian Party platform specifically argues for government to stay out of the issue. It is near the top of their platform statement.

1.5 Abortion

Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration.

Libertarian Party Platform, goes to the party Website.

Ron and Rand Paul like to claim they are libertarians, because they like the parts of “limited government and low taxes.” They in no way like weed. They do not favour the Libertarian Party’s positions on sex work or criminal justice, particularly the death penalty and recreational drugs, or draconian threats of long prison terms to extract a plea bargain and a guilty plea.

1.7 Crime and Justice

Government force must be limited to the protection of the rights of individuals to life, liberty, and property, and governments must never be permitted to violate these rights. Laws should be limited in their application to violations of the rights of others through force or fraud, or to deliberate actions that place others involuntarily at significant risk of harm. Therefore, we favor the repeal of all laws creating “crimes” without victims, such as gambling, the use of drugs for medicinal or recreational purposes, and consensual transactions involving sexual services. We support restitution to the victim to the fullest degree possible at the expense of the criminal or the negligent wrongdoer. The constitutional rights of the criminally accused, including due process, a speedy trial, legal counsel, trial by jury, and the legal presumption of innocence until proven guilty, must be preserved. We assert the common-law right of juries to judge not only the facts but also the justice of the law. We oppose the prosecutorial practice of “over-charging” in criminal prosecutions so as to avoid jury trials by intimidating defendants into accepting plea bargains.

1.8 Death Penalty

We oppose the administration of the death penalty by the state.

After reading the article, it’s for exactly the reasons I thought it was. It may not be causation; since the vaccinated are significantly more likely to be grounded in reality, their mental health may already be, on average, better off than the average unvaccinated. With that said, it should be intuitively obvious to anyone that if you agree with the science that says the vaccine works, and you trust in that reassurance, you can enjoy a more healthy social life and not have the shadow of a hospital respirator looming in your mind every time you leave the house.

After Sean Hannity seemed to tepidly support vaccinations on his television show in July, the next day on his radio show he walked that back entirely (July 22, 2021, transcript of the relevant segment):

“For some reason, me saying take COVID seriously has finally caught up with the mob and the — and the media. Now, I think they’ve got ulterior motives. They monitor this show and TV every night, and I think it has to do with the fact that — you know, there’s been this attempt to blame conservatives for the vaccine hesitancy.

And, you know for example, Yahoo News: ‘Suddenly Sean Hannity and other Fox hosts are urging their viewers to get COVID-19 vaccines.’ Suddenly? Well, first of all, I’m not urging people to get the COVID-19 vaccine, because I’m not a doctor. That is not what I said. I said to take it seriously, it can kill you. I said to do a lot of research. If you have a phone, do your research. I said to consult your doctor and doctors, and medical professionals you trust. I said to consider your unique medical history that I know nothing about. I said to also look at your current medical condition and, in consultation with your doctors, take — don’t not do this. Do the research.”

Teukka  Sep 10, 2021 • 5:38:56am

:sigh: [See below for reply I posted to the mindless drone who shared this in the chat]

A virus does not appear everywhere at once. It spreads. Slower in vaccinated populations and populations that fully comply with voluntary disease transmission mitigation measures, faster in populations which only do one, even faster in populations which do none.
You also have the factor of increased virus shedding of SARS-CoV-2 variants, that shifts the overall spread to faster.
A good way in finding a population where a significant number aren’t vaccinated or follow and disease mitigation measures, or are prevented from doing so, is to look at the “new infected” curve.
When a pathogen spreads with little resistance, it causes a characteristic exponential curve. You may have to use a rolling 3-day or 7-day average to denoise it to see the overall shape. The shape, not the numbers is the point.
When spread is exponential, there are two ways it will stop, either the virus runs out of people to infect, or local authorities get a moment of lucidity and do the right thing.
It will look more and more like below the more people who are unvaccinated and don’t take or are prevented from taking disease transmission mitigation measures. It may be squished in the left-right axis, the numbers may vary on the up-down axis, but the shape is the clue.

I’ve had to say this so many times during the past almost two years…
When you’re dealing with a communicable disease outbreak, epidemic or pandemic, you should take mitigation measures:
Anything which puts up a barrier for the pathogen(s) in question mitigates disease transmission.
Anything which kills the pathogen(s) on exterior surfaces mitigates disease transmission.
Anything that puts sufficient physical distance between individuals mitigates disease transmission.
Disease transmission mitigation 101 - has been known to work effectively for at least a century, if not more…
If there is a vaccine against said communicable disease, take it if able to.
Do neither, and you’re almost certain to become a statistic. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Line of argumentation (but not literal text) is hereby put in the public domain, as-is, no guarantees, do not inhale, ventilate well, etc. etc. etc.

This is what I suspected, but hadn’t confirmed. Most federal programs run like this; it allows states that want their own autonomy to do so, while still enforcing the federal standards enacted by Congress. In general, states are not supposed to be allowed to remove restrictions that the federal government has set, nor local jurisdictions with state restrictions; however, we’ve seen an alarming trend of Republican-run states where they are deciding either to prevent local governments from enacting additional restrictions (mask/vaccine mandates), or prevent federal restrictions from being applied to them (TX Governor Abbott’s idiotic executive order last night). All in the name of, “We have a political message about COVID and we don’t care if it kills everybody in our state, we’re going to see it through to the bitter end.”

I’m so old that the we all, including the GOP candidates, figured he would flame out during the 2016 primary and that the person who criticized him the least would be able to pick up the bulk of his supporters.

They failed to appreciate the strength of his media-star immunity to any consequences for anything he said or did.

What we all failed to recognize is that Trump used Hitler as his model for running a campaign and how effective that combination of racism, anti-immigrant, and appeal to worker angst was in gathering support. Let’s not forget that 30+ years ago Trump kept a copy of Hitler’s speeches by his bedside and read that book regularly; according to Michael Bender’s new book, he expressed his admiration for Hitler to John Kelly, his then chief of staff.

One might ask why television presenters on FOX aren’t getting sick, but local conservative radio hosts are.

Because a memo went out at Fox telling them all to get vaccinated. And they did.

North Carolina, clean up on Aisle Eleven.

We are fortunate that, for now, nothing Cawthorn does is relevant because Nancy is Speaker. But if McCarthy becomes Speaker in 2022, expect a nightmare pile-on of anti-labor anti-voting rights legislation passing the House and, potentially, the Senate. We are headed for truly dark times in our nation if the GOP regains control of any branch of the government. It was bad enough pre-Trump, but this re-invigorated GQP party is poisoning our nation for decades to come.

Which quickly leads back to what sort of coverage one has since many policies have a cap on the max you are forced to pay in a coverage period. If that part of the coverage goes away with your demise than the estate will take a larger soaking than it otherwise would.

I startled a small bear-sized raccoon this morning as I stepped out onto the back porch of the House of Dat located mere minutes away from the downtowns of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul. Made me realize that the last three weeks have been exceptional suburban wild mammal spotting - bat, mouse, eastern chipmunk, red squirrel, gray squirrel, vole (dead, but I’m counting it), cotton tail rabbit, muskrat, mink, raccoon, red fox, and whitetail deer. Over the years, we’ve also seen coyote, river otter, weasel, beaver, and woodchuck. No wolves, bears, moose, or sasquatch yet.

I’m going to retreat back to my bubble now.

In the Rwanda genocide, the courts went after the leaders and the spreaders of propaganda. They also went after those who acted on that propaganda.

The rest of the world needs to protect itself from Covid-19 as well. Other nations have the power to sanction propaganda spreaders at those networks, and seek an international warrant for their arrest just as was done to the broadcasters and radio hosts of RTLM.

Opinion | For anti-vaxxers, patience has run out (Carol Larson, writer and documentarian, Wisconsin State Journal)

Last paragraphs, after stating her shock about people she finds normally empathetic making statements such as “let them all die”:

I never want to get to the point where I wish someone dead. It’s psychologically and morally corrosive. I fight that sentiment and want the last word to go to God, who will — I believe — hold the anti-vaxxers responsible for many deaths.

Like my friends, I now reserve my sympathies for the innocent kids infected by politically belligerent teachers and parents. For those whose work requires being in offices or groups. And for those around the globe who want but can’t get vaccines, true victims of our medical shortsightedness.

But when asked to sympathize with the deathbed regrets of any politician, internet influencer or a rabid right-wing radio host who used anti-mask politics and COVID conspiracies to gain followers, sorry, I got nothing.

Isn’t altering NOAA weather predictions with a sharpie also illegal?

Well, there’s that pesky OLC memo.

The relevant section of the law reads:

Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.

In the case of the New York Post, they did not represent their assertion as published by the National Weather Service; that was their opinion. In the case of Trump, simply drawing on a map does not represent a forecast put out by the National Hurricane Center; IANAL and I could argue that a) it is obviously added to the map and b) it was just Trump’s (malinformed) opinion.

18 U.S. Code § 2074 - False weather reports (Cornell Law School)

I cannot find anyone ever prosecuted under this law. The law was written in the run-up to World War 2 in 1940, possibly due to national security concerns. The law requires you to actually hold yourself out as making an official forecast from the Weather Bureau or Signal Service (those were changed by amendment to the National Weather Service and the US Army Signal Corps).

the fact that he had no political record to run on was not a deficit, it was a big plus for all the voters fed up with politicians and politics as usual.

Ben Shapiro is going to fight the OSHA requirements to vaccinate his staff.

He’s going to fight the requirement. Yeah, excellent use of his resources. Have at it.

And you will lose.

The OSHA plan includes being able to claim free money under the American Rescue Plan for employees you let off work to get a vaccine and recover if necessary. Would Mr. Shapiro turn down free money?

Plus, does he employ that many people that the requirement is mandatory for him, or is this conservative preformative outrage?

So. Wife and I are on Day 2 as Covid Lepers. Neither of us is very sick (yet) and keeping good temps and O2. (Except that the thermometer crapped out last night and there are no charged AA cells in the house.) At noon we go to the hospital parking lot for my “infusion”. She doesn’t get one b/c she is a few days ahead of me with minor symptoms. Both of us are on Z-pac antibacterials to prevent pneumonia, and she was prescribed a steroid—different Doc-in-the-Box.

This song has its own en.wikipedia.org page:

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” was one of several songs written following Nirvana’s first recording sessions with producer Butch Vig in 1990. Singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain began writing it a few weeks before recording their second album, Nevermind, in 1991.[4] He said it was an attempt to write a song in the style of the Pixies, a band he admired:

I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies. I have to admit it. When I heard the Pixies for the first time, I connected with that band so heavily that I should have been in that band—or at least a Pixies cover band. We used their sense of dynamics, being soft and quiet and then loud and hard.[5]

When Cobain presented the song to his bandmates, it comprised just the main guitar riff and the chorus vocal melody.[6][7] Cobain said the riff was “clichéd”, similar to a riff by Boston or the Richard Berry song “Louie Louie”.[5] Bassist Krist Novoselic dismissed it as “ridiculous”; in response, Cobain made the band play it for an hour and a half.[5] Eventually, Novoselic began playing it more slowly, inspiring drummer Dave Grohl to create the drum beat,[8] which drew from disco artists like The Gap Band.[9] As a result, it is the only song on Nevermind to credit all three band members as writers.[10]

The title derives from a phrase written on Cobain’s wall by his friend Kathleen Hanna, singer of the riot grrrl band Bikini Kill: “Kurt smells like Teen Spirit”.[11][12] Hanna meant that Cobain smelled like the deodorant Teen Spirit, which she and Tobi Vail, his then-girlfriend, had discovered during a trip to the grocery store.[13] Cobain said he was unaware of the deodorant until months after the single was released, and had interpreted it as a revolutionary slogan, as they had been discussing anarchism and punk rock.[14]

So Dave has just always been into disco, he just knew what paid the bills.

Person in a certain department was ill, was told to come in anyway. Now almost everyone in the department is quarantined due to potential exposure to the y’know, the ongoing public health event.

That doesn’t affect me much since I’m in the far side of the store on a different shift, but we called in people to clean things thoroughly. Two people came in and were out in less than an hour and a half. The store itself covers about seven acres, good luck cleaning that in less than a DAY and a half.

He’s getting no love from the commentators, such as this one.

Jim Sells wrote:

“I am mad at the medical profession … I’m fed up with the politicians … You are not informing the public on how COVID will kill you. Which specifically to watch for and how to do it …”

This is lunacy. They DID him, over and over again, all last year and all this year. He did not listen. Now he won’t admit that he did not listen and it is his fault. He is being as stupid and blind to his own fault as he was before. He is still blaming other people for what he did to himself.

To be mad at the medical profession after all they told him is disgraceful. They saved his life!! If I were his doctor I would be furious.

I am glad he has seen the light (partially). I am glad he is on our side. But this is disgusting. With friends like these we don’t need enemies.

That first list almost exactly mirrors my own yard here in South Jersey, with a few exceptions and variations. And it’s heavily populated here.

Major Disaster Declaration Approved for Box Butte County (Alliance, Nebr. Times-Herald)

There was also significant crop damage.

The declaration allows federal funds to flow to portions of the state that saw the most damage through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Other counties cited in the declaration include Cass, Clay, Douglas, Fillmore, Grant, Hall, Hamilton, Madison, Sarpy, Saunders, Sheridan, Washington and York.

On July 9, Box Butte County witnessed two rounds of heavy storms that caused damage to windows, roofs and vehicles. According to Matthew Brothers, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the storm was significant in scale compared to others in recent history.

“I believe the largest hail size that we got a report of was 4.25 inches in diameter,” said Brothers. “That was 12 miles southeast of Hemingford. That was with the first round that was around 5:30 p.m. We got many other reports of not-as-large, but still pretty significant-size hail, as well as going through Alliance, we got a lot of pictures of at least baseball-sized hail that broke a lot of windows on houses as well as cars in town.”

Strong winds were also a factor, with the Alliance Airport recording a gust of 88 mph.

The Nebraska congressional delegation and Governor Pete Ricketts requested that President Biden issue the declaration following the storm. Governor Ricketts cited damage to the state’s electrical grid from the hail and wind.

“At one point, approximately 200,000 customers or 37% of the state was without power. This event caused Omaha Public Power District’s largest power outage in history,” Governor Ricketts wrote.

Heh. Like any of today’s Republican really give a flying about the will of the “majority”??
The only “majority” they care about is whatever margin of “base” voters in their district/state that will get them elected/reelected, and they will pander to said base with whatever extremist rhetoric/policies they think their rabid “base” wants to hear.
And then get wildly indignant at even the very suggestion that the sort of hate-driven, tribalistic, bubble-mentality politics that gets them those votes is anything but “normal American attitudes”, and that the “extremists” are (always, of course) Those Guys Over There….

The Dark Money Influencing Senator Manchin’s Right-Wing Agenda

New reporting by CNBC has found that the advocacy arm of Charles Koch’s network has been pressuring Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) to oppose key Democratic priorities like voting rights and labor provisions.

The Koch advocacy group, Americans for Prosperity, has been orchestrating an online campaign to push Manchin to stand against proposals like the For The People Act, or S.1, Democrats’ keystone voting rights bill, and the abolition of the filibuster.

‘Manchin Is Only Moved by Corporate Donors,’ Says Bowman as Koch-Backed Group Lobbies Against Voting Rights Bill

A dark money group funded by right-wing billionaire Charles Koch has been actively lobbying Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin to keep up his opposition to the For the People Act, a sweeping voting rights bill that would expand ballot access and crack down on the kind of secretive spending that has made the deep-pocketed Koch network such a powerful force in U.S. politics.

CNBC reported Tuesday that Americans for Prosperity recently “launched a website titled West Virginia Values, which calls on people to email Manchin ‘to be The Voice West Virginia Needs In D.C. — Reject Washington’s Partisan Agenda.’”

Arizona election audit team to submit draft report to Senate next week

The team behind the 2020 presidential election audit in Maricopa County, Arizona, plans to submit its full draft report to the state Senate next week, according to a spokesperson for the project.

The submission of the final review of the 2020 election, which saw auditing teams recount 2.1 million ballots and analyze voting machines this summer, has been delayed for several weeks. Audit Co-Chairman Randy Pullen told the AZ Mirror the draft report could be handed to the Senate on Wednesday or Thursday.

Plans to submit the audit report were delayed after the audit leader and CEO of Cyber Ninjas, Doug Logan, tested positive for COVID-19 along with two other members of the five-person team.

The audit report was previously intended to be submitted by the end of August. Senate President Karen Fann tweeted on Aug. 16 that the “audit companies are preparing the draft report to present to the senate team.”

QAnon Surfer Who Allegedly Killed His Kids With a Spear Gun Could Face Death Penalty (Vice)

Nothing seemed wrong to the people around him, because he was in a community that’s also a cult, and members are expected to act crazy to get attention.

VICE News attempted to contact dozens of people who knew Matthew Coleman, but none of them would speak openly about him, his faith, or what may have led to him allegedly murder his children.

But one of them did speak out in a Facebook group dedicated to the Coleman case.

In the post, Santa Barbara resident Helen Rose said she “grew up in the same household with him” after his parents took her in and that she viewed Coleman as a brother. She believes that he was suffering from some psychiatric condition that was allowed to fester in a community that accepted such behavior as normal.

“I believe that Matt has an undiagnosed mental illness to an extreme that may have been recognized in other communities, but the community he was an integral part of, the fundamentalist Christian evangelical community, seeing ‘signs and interpreting messages from God’ is accepted and encouraged,” Rose wrote in the Facebook post, reviewed by VICE News.

Kim Jong Un is (apparently) alive and (presumably) well. The North Korean dictator appeared in a state-issued photo over the weekend, in which he is shown cutting the ribbon on a new fertilizer factory outside Pyongyang. He looked not the least bit dead.

This development was a bit awkward for CNN and many other news outlets around the world, as well as a few intelligence agencies, which had spent the past few weeks in a frenzy over Kim’s health, or lack thereof.

According to stories in otherwise reliable mainstream publications, Kim died. According to journalists, he was “in grave danger,” possibly as a result of a botched operation. Others split the difference, saying he was in a coma or brain dead.

Or, as it turns out, not.

Panhandle Public Health District Dashboard

Rather than remove the testing site information, they simply scribbled it out.

Data is only broken down as “Scott’s Bluff County” and “everywhere else” due to the governor’s order to prohibit reporting in counties under 20,000 people.

The risk charts and dial are gone.

Deaths: 200 (+9)
Percent fully vaccinated: 35
Last two weeks cases: 453
Most by age: Tied 20-29 and 30-39
Weekly positivity rate: Last reported August 29, 8.4%, up 3.2% since August 8

Do they aggregate and report the numbers of all the smaller counties so that the statewide total number of deaths and cases are accurate? Or is that information concealed?

They aggregate the numbers. There are only seven counties in Nebraska with more than 20,000 people, so all the public health district dashboards are sort of useless.

The state dashboard has been removed since June 1 (hence the big hole on national maps). The state puts out a two-week “summary.” Every hospital and physician and public health worker in the state is trying to get Gov. Ricketts to budge, but he won’t move off his flawed interpretation of HIPAA.

It occurred to me that Biden’s vaccine mandate boldly confronts the antivaxx/covidiots at the height of their power. The covidiots have reacted accordingly, waving their penis guns and mumbling dire threats that they would report to the law if directed at them. Is Joe trying to set up a decisive confrontation? I’m wondering if he has smoking-gun proof of collusion and orchestrated, paid influence in the antivaxx propaganda movement. re: #368 Jay C

It’s not as though the “majority” necessarily are in line with truth and justice. I have no doubt that an impartial survey before Brown vs Board of Education would have supported segregated schools. A majority opposed SSM until SCOTUS declared it the law of the land. A majority had no problems with workplace discrimination based on gender, or religion, or race until it was finally outlawed. It can take a while for people to see the error of their ways or understand that societal values that were around for hundreds — or perhaps thousands — of years are wrong or, in some cases, no longer relevant to the modern world.

Frank Turek is lying for Jesus, as is his wont.

I imagine that college professors don’t view Evangelical students unfavourably; they view their education as lacking.

He must have his martyr complex for this faith though.

I viewed them as infuriatingly ignorant and arrogant. One student confidently asserted that “radio carbon dating” had been “debunked,” and that “the whole house of cards” (of paleontology) “would come tumbling down.” The idiot had no idea, none, that dates in the millions and billions of years have nothing to do with radiocarbon, which can only date organic material of comparatively recent origin. Yet he was cocksure of himself. The class actually laughed at him.

re: #421 Shiplord Kirel: Fan of USPS, Goodyear, and Oreo

Idle speculation:

It occurred to me that Biden’s vaccine mandate boldly confronts the antivaxx/covidiots at the height of their power. The covidiots have reacted accordingly, waving their penis guns and mumbling dire threats that they would report to the law if directed at them. Is Joe trying to set up a decisive confrontation? Does he have an ace up his sleeve?

I’m wondering if he has smoking-gun proof of collusion and orchestrated, paid influence in the antivaxx propaganda movement. A lot of the latter, obviously, predates covid but the existing antivaxx movement was simply the fertile ground on which the massive rain of covid bullshit fell. Where did that rain come from and who paid for it?

I don’t know, but I think Biden is just trying to end a pandemic that is killing thousands of people every day, and the only way to do it is to vaccinate everybody.

He does look much better. He’s still a cold blooded murderer and tyrant — but much handsomer!

Heh. I just wonder why he lost so much weight. Did his doctors tell him (as diplomatically as possible, of course), “Hey buddy, you need to lose some weight, because if you don’t, you ain’t gonna make it to 50 - oh, and it’s a huge risk factor for COVID-19, too” or is it some medical ailment?

There are already guns on the street and Trump cultists don’t have all of them, or the most suitable ones.

And in the latest AZ fraudit news…

So after Sen. Fann has stoked partisan crap for months over this, now she gives a tepid “threats are unacceptable” statement.

Threats have been going on as long as the Fruadit has.

No statement in there about “we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, &c.” She’s been pumping out agitprop for months.

You don’t get how youtube and facebook (also google) push new sites to people, do you.

Also, friends push these sites through email or on FB. People who are brainwashed work to convert those who aren’t — and sometimes they succeed.

Naturally but he knows that the pro-disease mob is immune to reason, facts, or human decency and will simply have to be shoved out of the way.

lol, what the hell is a full draft report?

Well, I often keep documents in Draft and deliberative to avoid FOIA requests and then remove the watermark right before I sign it — for them, draft also gives the option of ‘fixing’ the embarrassing errors/falsehoods that are there and/or saying ‘well, we never finalized the fraudit, so it was just for funsies.’

So it seems that calling RE Lee […] a bad master,

A “bad master”? Is that like a “bad SS concentration camp guard”? Does that imply the existence of a “good SS concentration camp guard”?

unless we outlaw all those things, he will no longer favor us and might just decide it is time to open up a Jehosophat-size can of Divine Ass-Whoop on us…

So, like I said elsewhen, they are scared that God will visit America with pestilence, violence, earthquakes, volcanoes, wildfires, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, landslides, snowstorms, floods, droughts, avalanches, plagues of insects…

Wait. All that is already happening. Maybe America is already evil in God’s eye?
