You know what’s divisive? An entire political party dedicating itself to backing covid over human lives. The GOP has sided with covid19. If this were the zombie apocalypse and that apocalypse were caused by covid, the GOP would be the ones who willingly let themselves get infected to turn themselves into zombies.

They’re spewing all kinds of nonsense, knowing that their base doesn’t care about facts or reality. They care only about their feelings, and it feels right to oppose Biden.

The GOP are willing to kill their base to pwn the Biden Admin.

But sure, Biden’s actions are divisive when 70% support vaccination mandate efforts and masking and other efforts to stop the pandemic.

I’d love to see this from Psaki or Biden in response to media both siderism: “Your question assumes that there are two sides on this issue, both with valid concerns. That is false. Everything Republicans say and do is lies and bullshit, always intended to amass the power needed for more tax cuts for the rich. I assure you that tax cuts for the rich will not help with the pandemic. It is also not helpful for right wing propagandists to convince the paste-eating pinheads of America to dose themselves with horse medicine.”

“Divisiveness” is like “tolerance”. Democrats are supposed to be concerned about those and should want to avoid them, even if they’re not the reason it’s happening. You know, like a wife (though my mom was the one with the anger issues that my dad and us had to deal with).

That very asymmetry is largely a consequence of the media coddling the GOP. The GOP sees that they can openly abuse the press and get rewarded, while the Dems have to play softball or they’ll get the entire latrine’s worth of shit dumped on them for months on end, which does eventually make it prohibitively hard to win races and actually gain exercisable power.

There should be an asymmetry in press coverage of Democrats and Republicans. Republicans should be covered like the reactionary, extremist and anti-democratic mob that they are.

Nearly all of my Illinois family were in agriculture and lived near small towns on the prairie. My grandfather was the exception. He was a professor of agriculture and so got to live in the big city of Champaign. They were all New Deal Democrats. Of course, they didn’t have to worry themselves over racial politics because with sundown towns in Illinois there were virtually no POC anywhere in rural Illinois.

We had a family reunion in August. I couldn’t go, but my brother did. He said that our cousins and their children are all basically Trump-lite Republicans now, though only a few actually farm anymore. When I think about it, my dad’s cousins were already drifting that way. I’m proud of dad. He abandoned the GOP after GWB’s first term and voted Democrat thereafter.

To think that there was a time when rural, agricultural state did not necessarily mean Red State. Now that is going to be an albatross around the Dems neck as they will always be under represented in the Senate and when (and to me right now it is sure as shootin’) the GOP simply fails to recognize EC results and sends the vote to the states in 2024

Lingerie lizard

Barbados to Rotherham: Lizard’s 4,000-mile trip hidden in bra

A lingerie-loving lizard was found lounging in a bra after travelling all the way from Barbados to sunny Yorkshire on a transatlantic flight.

The tiny gecko, now called Barbie, was spotted by Lisa Russell as she unpacked her suitcase after arriving back at her home near Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

Ms Russell said: “When it moved, I started screaming. It is not what you expect to find in your bra after a 4,000-mile journey.”

Barbie is now safe in the RSPCA’s care.

It’s the same dodge as always, just insert different victims and ‘others’.

“We can’t worry about vaccination mandates, what about all those ILLEEEGALS?!”

“We can’t worry about women’s health, think of the children! What about them?”

“How dare you try to reform immigration, what about all the poor and homeless that are already Americans?! How dare you brush them aside!”

“Guns?! What about mental health, that’s the real problem in this country!”

Never actually caring about the ‘victims’ they bring up except as cudgels against action helping anyone but white straight Christian male default.

Too many vested interests have no motivation to work towards the problem of illegal immigration beyond making conditions more desperate and inhumane for the immigrants.

Because too many industries build their entire business model around access to a pool of cheap, easily exploited labor: agriculture, food processing, food service, tourism and hospitality, landscaping and gardening, domestic services, etc…

Bottom line: The US is fucked, and Alabama is doubly-fucked. Was escorted from the back parking lot to a back hallway marked Red Zone. A dozen of us were 2 to a room, sharing an IV pump stand. My mate was a 2O-something whose wife is also CV-positive. I asked the masked lady tending me how she was holding up—she’s a doctor’s wife/volunteer on her first day in the zone. They pumped it in (shot and a chaser) for 40 minutes and watched me for an hour. It’s supposed to reduce the risk of severe outcomes.

1) Did the 20-something say whether he and the missus were breakthroughs or spread necks?

2) Did the doc say how she was holding up?

The kid and I were mostly grunting through masks, no great detail. The doc’s wife was fresh on the job—first day. Her handling of the gear suggested she was an old RN. Wife and I both got the fairly easy simple swab, called a Sofia-2. That seems to be the dominant quick-test, somewhat given to false negatives, not prone to false positives. It has a 15-minute response.

“Nearly two dozen Republican governors, as well as the GOP itself, have vowed to file suits, or take other actions, to block President Joe Biden’s newly announced vaccination mandates — but legal experts say they’ll have a hard time successfully making their case in court,” NBC News reports.

“Generally speaking, it is true that public health powers are delegated to the states, experts said. But the Constitution also gives the federal government broad powers to regulate certain matters when it perceives that states and localities are not able to do so, or are doing so adequately.”

“In this case, experts explained, Biden’s mandates pass muster because he is filtering them through the lenses of workplace safety and through the Constitutional language of federal spending powers.”

Not the total for a week or a month, but ONE SINGLE DAY.

Is it really for the day? I might be wrong but I suspect it’s the number reported that day — but it reflects deaths over an extended period. So when worldometer updates its statistics, it will show that the 1200 deaths occurred over a couple week period but the official death reports showed up on the 9th.

If someone dies they don’t care about, it’s a confirmation of their worldview.

If someone dies they do care about, it’s an outrage that’s the responsibiliity of…anything other than the choices they supported, but the alternative is vulnerability and an admission that you’re not in control, that things are genuinely bad in ways that can’t be solved with quick fixes and gestures.

It’s…fucking terrifying…but what the Republicans are doing is a viable tactic in general—call it sadopopulism or call it relationship abuse writ large, I’ve done both—and we can only hope that it doesn’t work this time.

Yesterday, the United States recorded 2049 deaths from Covid, per Worldometer. This was the higher number of deaths for any country in the world. Number 2 was Mexico with 879 deaths or well under HALF of the U.S. figure.

As a point of comparison, the ENTIRE NATION OF CANADA recorded only 28 deaths.

28.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Canada is much smaller than us so of course the numbers will be lower.”

Here’s the problem. Canadas population is roughly 10 percent that of the U.S. Since both nations are quite similar on many levels, it’s fair to assume that if both countries were doing a good job dealing with the pandemic that we would see deaths about ten times the amount of Canadas.

That would be 280. But no. Instead, we had over 2000. TWO THOUSAND.

Tomorrow is the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. At this rate, we’ll be back to losing the same number of people we lost on 9/11 PER DAY to this virus.

Fucking. Maddening.

I know that video is is making fun of Red Hats, but as for the gas thing brought up in this video.

Since Biden has been in office, where I live, the price of gas went up by 7 cents, and 2 weeks ago it went down by 1. It’s California, but even here it’s at or below $4/gallon in most places that aren’t specifically “traps”. It’s not $5 or $6 anywhere here that I know of.

By traps I mean: The gas stations in the middle of nowhere in Baker on the way to Vegas, Gas stations near airports, and gas stations at the edge of sections of the state where there are none (often at the edge of very long mountainous passes).

And then the “abolitionists” like the church in my neighborhood want to execute women who obtain abortions. These are DISGUSTING people who want to force their religious beliefs on all of us. Fuck that!

Growing up in a small agricultural & chicken farming central FL community, some of my high school friends would get together and say, “its Friday.” Lets go out tonight and beat up some n——rs.”

(Not really, food tastes better when it’s on ceramic, steel, or cast iron.)
