End Of Me Lyrics

Well I see you walking down a dead end street
Like a black cat following a limousine
A brand new problem every time we meet
But the same old reason that the grass ain’t green
So self-entitled and your talk is cheap
Leave a path of destruction every time you speak
You burned your bridges but I just won’t leave
‘Cause I can’t help caring ‘bout a friend in need
You dragged me down to a hole so deep
I’m crawling out on my hands and knees
I’d stick around but I know it’s gonna be
The end of me
When I see you making all the same mistakes
Try to help, but you throw it back into my face
You quit your job, say your life’s so hard
But you can’t pay for dinner with the victim card
Yeah, as subtle as a wrecking ball
If you stole my keys you would crash my car
Then win the lottery and still complain
We all know somebody that we just can’t change
You dragged me down to a hole so deep
I’m crawling out on my hands and knees
I’d stick around but I know it’s gonna be
The end of me
I wanna get closer to you
But how am I supposed to get through?
Keep putting out fires but the flames get higher
I gotta stop listening to you
I’m gonna get hurt if I do
I’m getting so tired of preaching to the choir
I said goodbye and I wished you well
But you kept draggin’ me back to hell
I’ll stick around but I know it’s gonna be
The end of me
I wanna get closer to you
But how am I supposed to get through?
Keep putting out fires but the flames get higher
I gotta stop listening to you
I’m gonna get hurt if I do
I’m getting so tired of preaching to the choir
You dragged me down to a hole so deep
I’m crawling out on my hands and knees
I’d stick around but I know it’s gonna be
The end of me

Volcanos are amazing. Beautiful but scary. And loud. No wonder our ancestor worshipped at them and gave them offerings:

I think “wild” meat makes more sense, because I hate the whole meat industry. I spent 20 years being a veg head, so that might be the reason.

Okay, I’ll post. There is a form of swing dance called “West Coast Swing”. Before the pandemic there were a lot weekends across the country for ‘westies’. They had competitions at them. Including for teams.

I got talked into joining a local Washington,Dc team. Here is a routine we did to ’21st of September’. Yes, I am in it, without being more specific, mostly in the back row someplace. The lady in the black slacks is the team manager and choreographer, as well as a former national champion in Swing and Country Western dancing and a really nice lady.

Sadly, the entire scene is still mostly shut down due to the pandemic.

Talk me down from the ledge. The Democrats have a razor thin margin in both the House and Senate, a margin that requires cooperation of both Manchin and Sinema in the Senate. I’ve reached the point in believing that the moderates and the left of the Democratic Party are not going to compromise — that they would rather bring the Biden presidency to an effective end instead of relinquishing any of their demands. Meanwhile the GQP is waiting in the wings to end democracy here forever.

Meanwhile, my psycho Trumpster FB friend posts regarding the racist Texas border police:

What a crock of hooey coming from the lamestream media.
The Texas Mounted Border patrol were using the reigns on the horses to control the direction of the horses.
Anyone who has ever ridden a horse would know that.

I did forbear my urge to suggest “reins”.

So I got a facebook ad for a ‘tactical backpack’ with a flip out bullet proof flap and I made a smart-ass comment (as I do) about how anyone insecure enough to buy such an item probably shouldn’t be allowed to carry a firearm as they’d be a danger to themselves and others.

This spawned a flood of replies telling me I’d never been to St. Louis, Chicago, or Baltimore. I replied to those assholes with a simple, “Wow, you really must be afraid of black people.” type remark. Well, they didn’t like that much either and so I said that I lived in a 90% black country as a teen and learned not to be a racist piece of shit 40 years ago. Well, as you can imagine, the conversation went downhill from there with someone citing news reports about mass bombings in Afghanistan. I replied that it must suck for them to live in Afghanistan but the bullet proof pen pocket wasn’t necessary here for going to Sunday school.

God these racist assholes are a waste of oxygen.

Neat. I’m trying to guess which one is you… probably one of the guys with graying hair, eh?

Never was a fan of WCS, in part because those who like to dance that style do so to any kind of music. I dance to the music. And that is not swing music in that video, though y’all did your best to make it work.

I’ve not been able to dance in a few years, but i guess that the pandemic shut down the social dance venues hard.

And the dance schools.

Ever since Tooty Frooty Newty and Ass Hole Dole forced us to work from Thanksgiving 1995 thru the first week of January 1996 without a paycheck I’ve kept a Rainy Day Fund in the credit union.

I fully expect Boris Manchin and Natasha Sinema to side with the Republicans to shut the Government down and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them join the GOP in forcing the default to cripple Joe. From what I’m hearing from congressional aides I know this time the GOP will not budge no matter what and they are in this position thanks to Boris and Natasha.

Manchin and Sinema are helping Mitch get what he wants, which is reconciliation taken off the table for the remainder of the fiscal year (i.e. from now to next October) so that all talk of the reconciliation bill will be scuppered and they can move on to more “bipartisan” bills.

Covid-19 death rate more than 4 times higher in least vaccinated states than in most vaccinated

The latest data from the US Department of Health and Human Services shows an average of 39 Covid-19 hospitalizations per 100,000 people in the 10 least vaccinated states, nearly three times higher than the average rate of 14 per 100,000 people in the 10 most vaccinated states.

The states with the lowest vaccination rates have fully vaccinated less than 45% of their residents. They are Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wyoming.

The 10 states with the highest vaccination rates have fully vaccinated more than 62% of their residents. They are Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.

re: #6 Hecuba’s daughter

I greatly sympathize with you. Here is how I am trying to handle it. As always ymmv:

1. Through large amounts of trial and error, I have found that pointing out to someone that they are obviously an idiot is usually not well received. And I have also found that it generally requires a massive expenditure in energy for very low positive returns. My most successful approach has been to not waste my time arguing with obvious idiots and trolls.

2. We have selected a set of leadership, Biden, Schumer, Pelosi. They are there for the next year. Personally I find them experienced and thoughtful. I think that they have done a fairly good job in the face of a lot of issues. My view is let them do their job and not obsess over it.

For example, what Manchin and Sinema think is not a mystery to them. Some of the stuff we see is performative. They have to pretend to go down paths that everybody knows are not going to be fruitful in order to make a point and convince a select audience. (Of course, some is not.)

3. For the moment, at least, despite some loud voices from the rwnj’s, America requires that we convince people to support a position rather than just massacring them. Anything that can help convince people of the righteousness of our positions is a good thing.

4. I remember that the internet is international. And many of the trolls on it may not be American citizens or even American residents. And they may have goals other than honest debate of political philosophies. Arguing with them is not likely to change their positions.

5. Practice self-care.

6. There are things that we can control. There are other things we cannot control. I have found that my sanity is better when I focus on what I can control.

As always, just because this works for me doesn’t mean that works for anybody else.

Your point regarding the WCS music is very true. But for me that was a selling point. It allowed me to dance to pop, swing, blues, chacha, rhumba, and just about anything beyond waltz and salsa.

Yes, the dance teachers and studios got hit hard as they lost their only source of income.

A lot tried online. To at least not completely lose the students they worked so hard to recruit.

Locally, a few dances are coming back. Some require pre-registration with proof of vaccination. Those run by people who are not dependent upon the income are, by and large, still closed.

I have decided to remain an anti-social hermit for the time being.

There’s a Japanese manga/anime series called “Cells at Work”. It’s based around the romantic goings-on of a red blood cell and a white blood cell who keep on bumping into each other in an un-named human being’s veins. It’s sweet and funny and biologically accurate, mostly. You’ll find clips from it on Youtube as well as reaction videos from medical specialists.

the small cautionary voice within me is telling me the midterms aren’t going to go as they are forecast. Yes, Republicans have a decided edge in gerrymandering, but I think Dems actually gain a few seats in the House and make it to 53 in the senate, at which point, they burn the filibuster to the ground and shit gets passed.

My brother has been on and off mainly vegetarian* diets. (Currently on since his wife is vegetarian.) Back in the mid-90s when I was hunting he was on vegetarian at that time. He mainly did it for healthy eating, plus not liking the US meat industry practices as well in terms of environmental impact and treatment of animals.

Though if I brought venison up when I visited it was eaten. In part since he essentially knew where the meat had come from, what it had been eating, and roughly how it had been processed.

* - Eggs and cheese still definitely part of that diet. He has chickens for the former and western NY is a pretty good area for getting local cheese of good quality. Half of his current chicken flock (8 hens) are essentially pets now as they’re too old to be good layers and are not very productive. He did say they do server as potential “decoys” for the productive hens if a hawk, fox, or coyote goes after them.

Here you go, Kentucky, you’ve fucked around, now you find out:

Experts have have shed new light on a variant of COVID-19 discovered in a nursing home in Kentucky, which has infected at least 45 residents and health care staff. The strain has five mutations seen in other variants, plus many unique ones.

Many residents of the Kentucky nursing home were fully vaccinated, but the evolved virus was able to circumvent their anti-body protection.

An investigation by the Kentucky Department of Public Health revealed an unvaccinated, infected staff member initiated the outbreak in early March, resulting in the wave of infections.

An article published on Forbes written by William A. Haseltine, a former Harvard Medical School professor, reported that the new variant—named R.1—was first found in Japan. It has infected more than 10,000 people globally, according to GISAID SARS-CoV-2 database.

But if he is not under oath Trump can lie as much as he wants and the only workable punishment is in the court of public opinion and people refusing to do business with him because he lies. (And the media reporting it as what it is, lies, is part of that process.)

The sites are a sad commentary on how selfish we’ve become in some ways. The common thread among the HCA ‘winners’ is their personal freedom. Their health and the health and safety of those around them, including their own children, is irrelevant in the context of these limited profiles. Maybe a page called Covid-Orphans would convince more people to get vaccinated. Maybe not.

I disagree with Slate that people enjoy reading these. Every one starts with ‘Look at this crazy asshole! Looney-tunes!’ and ends with ‘Aw…a gofundme because they left their family with big ass bills…’ None of their facebook friends are convinced to get the shot. Last time these people crossed their feed they were making a joke about Covid…then they got replaced by other friends posts and before you know it it’s been a month and why hasn’t Sam posted lately?

For far too long have the late 20th century and early 21st century taking heads, intelligentsia, and inner circles of the well-off “smart” people in this country avoided speaking the truth in public.

Sure, in their private parties they will wag their tongues and put down the masses of Americans who are, frankly, gullible.

When a more combative spirited among the better off actually goes more public with the real problems facing the masses, they become “extremists” or “alarmists” or just “angry”.

Think of Bill Moyers. He spent years warning us about the religious right. But for the most part he was put into a corner on PBS, where only his fans (who are also pretty well educated, if not formally at least they are well read) could find him. Occasionally CBS might have trotted him out for a comment or two.

For far too long the media corporations, who exist to make money, not to tell the truth but to generate revenue, played to the masses who prefer feel-good stories about American and that reified the America-centric, Jesus-ified views of themselves.

America is a Christian nation - so they claim. In part they are correct in that the US has long been the most religious nation among the first world. By far the most religious.

A quarter of the US population believes the world is only a few thousand years old.

So yes, if these people who have believed that Covid-19 was hoax, or it wasn’t that bad and just like a little cold, end up in an ICU dying, they are going to be mad.

In an attempt to improve his company’s image, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg authorized a plan to boost pro-Facebook stories on the newsfeeds of its billions of users, the New York Times reports.

“The idea was that pushing pro-Facebook news items — some of them written by the company — would improve its image in the eyes of its users… But the move was sensitive because Facebook had not previously positioned the News Feed as a place where it burnished its own reputation.”

I think it was ben franklin who said the only hope for democracy was if people respected each other enough to compromise

You need two principled actors playing fair, acting in good faith
“Democracy depends upon the recognition of the legitimacy of the opposition.”

Yep and you don’t get the recognition of the legitimacy when you refuse to acknowledge your opposition wins. We’ve had so many close elections here on the win and loss sides of things that I expect them. My Congressman won re-election easily yet his opponent still cried fraud.

Bad metrics: Twitter settled a class-action lawsuit for more than $800 million after allegedly misleading investors about its engagement metrics, Variety reported. The metrics had to do with how many accounts, on average, used Twitter each day.

Settled for $800 million. Sounds more like bad lies than bad metrics.

Correct, but not the point. The American pro-law-enforcement and anti-immigrant people (generally the same thing, but not 100% overlap) are going to use the technical distinction - “used whips” vs. “whipped people” - to dismiss and minimize this incident, saying that because the pro-compassion crowd got one minor fact wrong, their entire point is invalid. Take A Look At This Mysterious Shape Spotted At Skunk Works’ Helendale Radar Cross Section Facility

A clip posted to TikTok shows a pretty weird shape on a trailer at the Helendale Radar Cross Section Facility.
A pretty intriguing “object” was spotted in a video posted this morning on TikTok by our friend and OSINT researcher Ruben Hofs. A dark colored shape sitting on a trailer as it is moved at a location that was identified as Helendale Radar Cross Section Facility, in the Mojave Desert, not far from Lockheed’s Skunk Works facilities at Plant 42 in Palmdale, California.

This pic shows it on the trailer with some context. It is fairly large.

Nose appears to be at the left. There are no engine outlets or intakes visible. My guess would be a glider re-entry body of some kind, but it might be a new-fangled dumpster for all I actually know.

The blue team cannot suspend the debt ceiling if they do it that way [reconciliation], all they can do is increase the ceiling by some large number. If they do it, then McConnell and his party will weaponize that to the Nth degree next year, arguing that the Democrats’ spending is reckless, and that they have been compelled to dramatically increase the national debt in order to pay for their socialist legislation.

from the same link

Whatever your feelings are about the reconciliation bill, what we’re seeing here—as is so often the case with McConnell—is a staggering amount of dishonesty. First of all, the case that he intends to make is an outright lie—it would be previous spending that prompted the debt ceiling increase, and not future spending. That would include the nearly $8 trillion that was added to the national debt during the Trump years, thanks in no small part to the 2017 Republican tax cut.

McConnell is also conveniently neglecting to mention that the Democrats worked with him three times during the Trump presidency to avoid the debt-ceiling cliff.

Their [democrats] version of events is the truthful one—that this has to do with past spending, not future spending

The left side (nose?) profile resembles the nose of the

Shaped Sonic Boom Demonstration aircraft, a modified F-5E.

The NASA Shaped Sonic Boom Demonstration, also known as the Shaped Sonic Boom Experiment, was a two-year program that used a Northrop F-5E with a modified fuselage to demonstrate that the aircraft’s shock wave, and accompanying sonic boom, can be shaped, and thereby reduced.

It apparently reduced sonic boom by about a third. The program wound up in 2005 and the aircraft is on display at the Valiant Air Command Museum in Florida.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Three times in the past four years, Nebraska prosecutors have sought death sentences, and each time they have been successful. Within a couple months, two more people convicted of a grisly murder could also be sentenced to death.

But as the state adds to its death row population, the lawyers, judges and prison officials who oversee Nebraska’s system of capital punishment largely ignore the fact that the state has no lethal injection drugs and very likely won’t get any for years, if ever. Those sentenced to death have a better chance of dying of natural causes than being executed.

While the nation remains divided over capital punishment, Nebraska stands out for its peculiar version of the institution: it’s still wedded to the idea of executing prisoners, just not the practical part of doing it. The state is among a handful caught in a law vs. reality netherworld as legislatures and activists wrestle over how the issue will eventually play out.

(more, my bold)

Nebraska death sentences continue despite no execution drugs (May 9, 2021, Associated Press)

Rafael - may I call you that? No? Fuck you, Rafael - the minority does not get to control this country. The only reason it was allowed to, back in the 1800’s, is because racist shitheads wanted to keep being racist shitheads - which, I guess, is still true today: Racist shitheads want to continue controlling the legislative agenda, despite being in the extreme minority. I have two words for you: Fuck off. The People WANT this. anyone who has ever ridden a horse would know that

I always preferred a bridle with loop reins, over long reins.

The only advantage I know of with long reins is that if you need to get off your horse while out in the pasture, to fix the fence, open and close a gate, take a leak, etc; is that cow horses are trained to stay put if you drop the long reins on the ground below their head.

They may nibble some grass, but will stand there and not wander off until you take the reins in your hand.

Let’s be fair to Senator Rafael Cruz: To him, our agenda is quite radical. It involves doing good things for people, and taking care of them, and helping them live a better life - you know, showing compassion. Compassion is an incredibly radical agenda in a world full of self-centered Randian assholes, like the one Rafael Cruz lives in. So, yes, I can understand why he fears us so. With that said, “radical” does not necessarily equate to “bad”, but he’s trying to make it be that way.

And as a result, despite the recession that might follow, the GOP will successfully manage to pin most of it on Biden and make significant gains in the 2022 midterms.

The morning tropical update.

Disturbance Two, which is the remnants of Tropical Storm Odette are 500 miles northwest of the Azores and moving over warmer waters to the southeast. The system has a 50% chance of redeveloping within five days as it makes a lap around the Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical Storm Peter has been downgraded to a depression north of Puerto Rico. The storm is expected to become a remnant low as it moves northwest then northeast.

Tropical Storm Rose has been downgraded to a depression in the middle of the North Atlantic. It is expected to make a sharp turn to the east in the next couple days and become a remnant low.

Disturbance One, at roughly 32W and 10N, has a 90% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within forty-eight hours as it moves west-northwest toward the Lesser Antilles.

I noticed that my mini solar panel for my Ring camera had kicked in again this morning and charged the battery - before 6:30 AM. I’m starting to gather that solar tech has gotten quite efficient over the last 15-20 years, since last I looked at it.

I would like to get solar panels here, but finding anyone who will come out this far in the middle of nowhere has been fruitless.

The cost of getting someone to do it from Denver would be stupidly expensive.

I would do solar here, but we are planning on moving soon-ish and I don’t want to commit to a major upgrade on a house that may not pay for itself by the time we move out. However, I am fully on board with the idea of a solar install at our next house, which we intend to be our last house barring any extenuating circumstances.

It’s how logic works with these people.

Watch a push button cutting horse change its leads.

The rider for the most part is holding onto the saddle horn for stability, so not to give the horse a leg miscue. If it’s a good horse, the only time the rider uses the reins is to tell the horse to release the cow.

Unless it’s a horse like Babe, my designated horse. Each sibling had their own horse.

Drop the reins on the ground, and she would stand there and wait. Unfazed by anything.
Tie her up with long reins and she would pull back until she broke the reins or bridle. Didn’t like to load into a trailer either.

If I was going to tie her, I had to slip on a halter over her bridle and use a lead rope.

Thus the preference for loop reins.
