LYRICS
My Traveling Star by James Taylor

Watch my back and light my way
My traveling star, my traveling star
Watch over all of those born Saint Christopher’s day
Old road dog, young runaway
They hunger for home but they never stay

They wait by the door
They stand and they stare
They’re already out of there
They’re already out of there

My daddy used to ride the rails, they say
So they say, so they say
Soft as smoke and as tough as nails, my daddy
Boxcar Jones, old walking man
Coming back home was like going to jail

The sheets and the blankets and babies and all
He never did come back home
Never that I recall

Never mind the wind
Never mind the rain
Never mind the road leading home again
Never asking why
Never knowing when
Every now and then
There he goes again

She had a cat and a dog named Blue
My traveling star, my traveling star
A big old stove and a fireplace too
Old road dog, young runaway
She told me she loved me like it was true

I knew I should stay
I knew I would go
Run, run, run away
Run, run, run away, boy

Run before the wind
Run before the rain
Over yonder hill
Just around the bend
Never asking why
Never knowing when
Every now and then
There you go again

Tie me up and hold me down
Oh, oh, my traveling star
Bury my feet down in the ground
Oh, oh, old road dog
Claim my name from the lost and found
And let me believe this is where I belong
And shame on me for sure
Sing me one more highway song

My traveling star
My traveling star

I get a lot of conservative derp in my FB feed. You click on one and they serve you more. Luckily, in the comments they are being mocked. The education system in this country is beyond repair.

That minute when you get some legit info that is likely to be troll troublesome. But I can’t see how to get it all Private with the chart. So here we go anyway. I got this link. CDC Report.
If that link is bogus, it sure faked me out.
The report is about a particular couple kinds of heart ailments. My question is what the heck is going on with a reported case rate of dozens in the young vs so much less as we get older. Does anyone else see a yellow flag here?

Look at the ages in and around puberty

Just spitballing here, but perhaps young people, with comorbidities and other serious medical issues are more likely to want to get vaccinated than those who are healthy and therefore more likely to encounter some complications as a result of getting the shot?

There may also be some specific causative factor more prevalent in young people (higher levels of a certain hormone for example) that would be leading to higher incidence rates.

Definitely worth a closer look IMO.

According to the Myocarditis Foundation: ” it most often affects otherwise healthy, young, athletic types with the high-risk population being those of ages from puberty through their early 30’s, affecting males twice as often as females. Myocarditis is the 3rd leading cause of Sudden Death in children and young adults.”

So, while incidence may be somewhat increased by the vaccines, the age and sex distribution sounds about right. Also, this is per million doses administered, and most cases are fairly mild and treatable. You just need to watch for it. I wouldn’t hesitate to have a child of mine (should I have one in that age group) vaccinated.

In doing some research, it appears that there’s another vaccine, a smallpox vaccine, that has been known to cause myopericarditis in people. So it would not necessarily be the first time it happened. It might also not be something that’s overly concerning; it’s noted that the incidence rate is per million doses administered, and those are relatively low numbers per million, all things considered.

Also, myocarditis and pericarditis are most often caused by a virus, so getting Covid is likely not a good plan either.

72 per 1,000,000 would mean, if every single person in the United States was run through the sample (330 million people), that would be less than 25,000 cases. That’s a risk I would accept every day of the week.

You are right. It does seem a bit suspicious. I would have to see another good sourced report.

from the cdc.gov website:

Since the introduction of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in the United States in December 2020, an elevated risk for myocarditis among mRNA COVID-19 vaccine recipients has been observed, particularly among males aged 12-29 years, with 39-47 expected cases of myocarditis, pericarditis, and myopericarditis per million second mRNA COVID-19 vaccine doses administered (6). A recent study from Israel reported that mRNA COVID-19 vaccination was associated with an elevated risk for myocarditis (risk ratio = 3.24; 95% CI = 1.55-12.44); in the same study, a separate analysis showed that SARS-CoV-2 infection was a strong risk factor for myocarditis (risk ratio = 18.28, 95% CI = 3.95-25.12) (4). On June 23, 2021, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices concluded that the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination clearly outweighed the risks for myocarditis after vaccination (6). The present study supports this recommendation by providing evidence of an elevated risk for myocarditis among persons of all ages with diagnosed COVID-19.

Every now and then we’d hear of some apparently healthy, ordinary high school football player dropping dead from a previously undiagnosed, unrecognized congenital heart defect. Maybe that’s more common than we realized, and it’s only the football players who stress themselves enough to trigger it.

(also… aren’t there a slew of mild, livable congenital abnormalities that people grow out of by their 20’s? Kind of like the way a soft spot on a baby’s head closes itself up?)

And there is always a small risk with almost every vaccine. In most cases the benefits are worth the risks.

steve_davis  Sep 26, 2021 • 1:00:25pm

It looks from that number, to this non-statistician, like males would have to make up a bit more than 100% of the total number of Pfizer myocarditis numbers in order for that to work out.

The numbers themselves look fine to me, actually. Depending on the number of participants involved, that math could easily work out.

What that says to me is that there is a heightened risk for myocarditis from SARS-CoV-2 as well as a heightened risk from the vaccine, and the risk is lower for the vaccine. Is that right?

oh, okay. I couldn’t figure out how if 34 people per million were getting it out of the “all” category with Pfizer, 71 per million could then be male. It’s like somehow, a doubling of the entire number of positive cases had to occur. This is why I don’t do statistics, ‘cause that just looks flakey to me.

It’s because the female number is only 8.1 people per million, so with enough female participants, they would “water down” the males’ 74 per million until it got to 28 per million.

A Maine woman was so desperate to spend time with her boyfriend that she made bomb threats at his workplace so he could get the day off, police said Friday.

The woman’s bizarre attempt to get her boyfriend out of work happened Thursday in the city of Pittsfield. The suspect is accused of calling state police two separate times that day claiming she was going to bomb Puritan Medical Products, the medical manufacturing facility where her boyfriend works.

It happens here once or twice a year, a high school or young college player falls out during practice and doesn’t recover. I think these heart defects are probably minor to most people who live and survive without being super athletic. But add in heavy training, often to the point of exhaustion, heat, maybe a lack of water or fluids during practice and games and that defect gets tested, often to the point of failure or permanent damage.

Most basketballs courts are indoors. Lack of direct exposure to sunlight makes heat exhaustion a hell of a lot less likely.

In freshman football (1978) I literally had a coach who told us to spit out water because it would lead to cramping (during two-a-days). It’s a miracle no one died. His was probably a majority view at that time.

Basketball is the religion in the part of the country I grew up in. I never really heard about such stories amongst the basketball players, but sports were something I actively avoided; I’m 100% sure they had their share of collapsed-on-the-court incidents.

and/but

even though he’s telling him to run in 2024, the previous “If we nominate Trump, we’ll get destroyed. And we’ll deserve it.” version of Lindsey Graham has momentarily emerged from hibernation now that Trump’s out of power.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told former President Donald Trump, “You fucked up your presidency” earlier this year when advising him to accept that he lost the 2020 presidential election, The Hill reports.

The anecdote was shared by Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward while he was discussing his new book Peril.

The University of Texas has one of the world’s largest collections of preserved abnormal human brains.

Collected only 100 Abie Normals in Texas? I’d say they were seriously under-performing.

Rhabdomyolysis. This is what’s killing HS football kids on workouts. The Army has a problem with it in troop training—has a link to sickle cell.

Well, the original tweet does say arrest, try, and convict before moving on to execute, which the majority of the Supreme Court would regard as proper due process and the proper order of events.

If they went from arrest to immediate execution, then the Republican Supremes might have a problem with due process would be violated.

“Audit all 50 states.” Okay.
“Arrest all involved.” Okay if the charges for which they are arrested are for real crimes.
“Try all involved.” Again, okay if the charges for which they are arrested are for real crimes.
“Convict all involved.” This is a no-no. Goes against the presumption of innocence, and if I remember my US constitution right, 5A, 6A, 16A. On top of the problem if the charges aren’t for real crimes.
“Execute all involved.” If the charges are for real crimes and the presumption of innocence is assumed until the verdict comes down, might be okay. If not, that is calling for murder under the color of justice. CAPISCE?
