1. The progressives will get the blame and the Biden presidency is effectively over. Don’t think that anyone who isn’t already progressive will nod and say it’s the moderates who are to blame and these people will then vote for more progressive candidates. Voters might blame moderates for failure of the larger package; but the progressives will get the blame for the failed bipartisan bill.
2. Telling the public we need more Democrats to get things done won’t wash. The public has repeatedly been told the Democrats control both Houses, even though that is not really true in the Senate. The public will look and see that the Democrats aren’t getting things done although so much was promised — and enough will stay home or decide to try the GOP again in 2022.
3. Manchin and Sinema must stay with the party; shaming them or threatening them isn’t a winning strategy (unless, in the unlikely event, you have material that can be used to actually blackmail them). If either is driven out or walks out in a huff, Biden’s presidency is done. As bad as they are, it would be infinitely worse if either jumps ship and McConnell takes control.
4. Democracy is finished if the GOP gets control of the House or Senate in 2022. The fact that Trump gained 11 million votes in 2020 over 2016 should make us realize how precarious our democracy is, especially given that the GOP is now a fully fascist organization at the federal level - as well as in many states that they control.

My 16 year old son is kind of laid back, especially about his clothes. He’s a junior, and yet getting him to wear something other than gym shorts or sweat pants has been a challenge. Some of that is marching band. The pep rally uniform is a band shirt and black gym shorts, and they have to wear it all day, and band practice on other days is after school, so gym clothes are more comfortable in the Texas heat than other clothes.
Wednesdays are differenrt.Band doesn’t generally have after school practice on Wednesday (rules about the max number of hours they can do after school during the week). During his freshman year and the first couple of weeks of this year, that hasn’t really meant much to him. He just wore gym clothes.
But now there’s a girl.
They knew each other last year, but since we kept him home for most stuff (he went to school to practice after school marching but regular school was virtual) they didn’t get to spend a lot of time together. Now he sees her a lot more. And she’s starting to have an effect on him.
Today, he wore jeans, a white t-shirt, and an unbuttoned blue shirt. He almost tried wearing dress clothes the weekend before, but they really didn’t look right. All my pushing and it took one cute and rather confident girl.
A few weeks from now is the homecoming game Because the band has a competition that weekend, they won’t be able to make the dance, so some parents are planning a separate one. Whoever is setting it up made it Sadie Hawkins. My son’s friend immediately asked him to go with her. She told him he’d feel ok dancing with her after he sees her dance.

The harshest is “forensic psychiatric care with special release procedure”. It’s difficult to get declared criminally insane, it’s more likely that the a certifiable individual gets sentenced to prison than to forensic psychiatric care.

When she left the room, Lewandowski followed her and said she had a “nice ass.” Finally he gave up and threw a drink at her. Four people who were there corroborated this report to Politico. Many others saw it.
After the dinner, there was a party for the attendees to the event. Witnesses reported seeing Odom in tears and pleading for help as Lewandowski stalked her, while other attendees tried to keep him from her. She told people that she feared for her safety because her hotel room was adjacent to his.

Mrs. Odom was not pleased and neither was Mr. Odom. In fact, Mr. Odom has said he wants the $100,000 he donated to Trump’s super PAC refunded unless Trump fires Lewandowski. And late Wednesday, that is exactly what happened.

The problem is how to solve the issue without allowing a simple majority to just trample the rights of the minority. Parliamentary countries solve for this with their multiple-party system, enabling coalitions between otherwise minority groups to assemble a majority to enact legislation that protects minority rights. Americans have the Senate, but with the filibuster, it is set up to be completely controlled by the minority party at all times, except in certain specific circumstances. That is absolutely wrong, but I don’t know how to fix it beyond effectively abolishing the filibuster.

The Founding Fathers designed our system on the assumption of good faith by participants in the system, perhaps assuming that the country would always retain its idealism and fervor for Enlightenment. Question is, how do we redo it to account for bad faith, and then how do we get it through with the bad faith participants we have now?

For over a year there have been claims that Russia has been suppressing accurate case numbers and deaths. Over the last couple months the daily count has been around 800 — but it has crept up the past few days and is certainly at its highest level during the pandemic. I wouldn’t believe anything official that had the approval of Putin.

Some years ago, at one of my previous jobs, our company hired an executive who had previously worked in the C-suite of some fast food company. Fast food has nothing to do with what my company did. And of course, the new guy thought he knew how everything worked right from the get go because he’d “done this before.”
He immediately implemented a number of changes, some of which were damn near disastrous and after many complaints from us employees (and some not small financial hits to the company as a result of said changes) the company transferred him to another role and replaced him with someone who actually fucking understood what we did and how to make money doing it. Needless to say, morale improved after that.
