The more you watch, the more obvious it becomes that the pressitutes want so badly for Daddy Trump to come back and beat on them some more. That Uncle Joe is too nice and boring for their readers to care about.

I don’t know what this new ruling will cost Alex Jones, but he did get nailed last year:

(WP) He was ordered last year to pay almost $150,000 in legal fees after he failed to provide discovery documents for attorneys representing Sandy Hook families.

Made me wonder what old Alex was worth. Several net worth websites estimated his net worth at $5 million.

Yeah, but that’s because we were never really there to see her as a diplomat, we’re there to see her as the overbearing mother whose daughter is supposed to experience some (temporary) character growth by either pushing back against her demanding attitude or by finding some way to connect with her emotionally.

Fuckin’ county inspector just said our solar set up won’t fly. Batteries in the garage are a fire hazard and we need to move them outside (not easy - fire dept says we need another 12” between our property lines, but he said he’d talk to them) or we have to add bollards (3 foot steel barriers) in front of the batteries to protect from a car hitting them, or move them to the firewall (we do have space there, if we demo some more cabinets and move our outside refrigerator).

Fuck.

The implication is the same as it’s always been: “Look at all these things that progressives want to spend your money giving to those people.”

And before somebody says it, you’ll notice that they’re not talking about how that bill’s been funded through taxes on those making >$400K. There’s a reason for that, which is that if they admit the rich are the one’s getting pinched then their viewers might not be so against the whole idea.

I’d sent my 4K projector in to Asurion for repair months ago due to a single dead pixel on the DMD chip, and first had them return it to me without replacing the bad part, saying they cleaned it instead.

I sent it back, and they returned it not working at all.

I shipped it back, and they declared it dead, cutting me a check for the purchase price, which is hundreds below the replacement cost.

I can use the money, so I’m going to give up 4K for now, but I’m still extremely annoyed that they destroyed it rather than swap out a broken part. It could have been back in use long ago if they just did their job when I first sent it in.

Overall, it worked out well for me, because Optoma screwed me by refusing warranty service, saying the seller was not an authorized seller. They can also void your warranty if the projector has ever been on for more than 8 hours at a time. At least I get my purchase price back.

I’ll be looking at other brands when I look at 4K projectors again in six months to a year, and won’t get the extended warranty.

If the local school board tried this here, I’d be at the school board meeting demanding they explain how Morgan’s Raid would be rationalized since he pretty much burned his way through our county because we were one of the Union supporting Kentucky counties and we *gasp* treated non-whites as equals.

I am truly astounded that my house survived Morgan’s Raids because the original farm was a hotbed of abolitionists and a safe place for escaping slaves heading north.
Of course, my holler apparently had a serious do-not-fuck-with-us reputation even back them.

I expect the final number to be much higher:

On Thursday, after Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia revealed that he had offered $1.5 trillion as a topline number for the Democrats-only bill, a progressive member of the House welcomed the clarity and chided Sinema’s lack thereof.

“Half of Manchinema has now shown us something. Waiting for the other half to show us something other than a designer purse,” quipped Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin.

re: #73 John Hughes

2 years community college? Quelle largesse! I only got 3 years in university with a few thousand pounds (in the 1970’s) living expenses. Such hardship made me the man I am today.

New York City College (dad’s alma mater) and Hunter College (mom’s), until the 1970s were 100% taxpayer funded, zero tuition.

Dad grew up with holes in his shoes and 5 meals a week. Mom got to eat every day, but her family shared 8 winter coats among 14 cousins. Them getting free college is why I grew up with a swimming pool, summer camp and ski trips.

in the 1970’s, NYC ran into some financial problems, they were near bankruptcy (mostly because FHA policy subsidized moving all the middle-class people out of the city and out to the suburbs, but I digress). One of the conditions of a federal bailout was college couldn’t be free anymore. CCNY and Hunter are now 7500/year for in-state tuition. If tuition in their day had been the inflation-adjusted equivalent, neither of my parents would have had any chance at all of going to college.

One would think their 40 years of highest-bracket income tax would be enough return-on-investment to satisfy the so-called fiscal conservatives, but apparently not.

“no fictional accounts shall be used….” No stories by n*****rs about n******rs. So, no Frederick Douglass, because his autobiography has some stuff in it that is more there to make a compelling narrative than to be literal; no Ralph Ellison, no Maya Angelou, Richard Wright, James Baldwin. Ironically, Faulkner is okay, because n****rs are called n****rs, but it’s mostly in a good cause: the underlying sadness of the Lost Cause.

We want to run Government like a Business, remember? This is why so many people voted for a “successful businessman”. One who ran a for-profit university at that.

Education is an expense, along with health care or environmental and safety protections, and expenses are things to be minimized or abolished entirely to benefit the Bottom Line, which is the Ultimate Goal to be served, even at the cost of human lives.

Taking the afternoon off in hot Southern California:

I still feel ashamed and astounded that people actively seek stupidity as a badge of honor regarding history

First time I heard about gun confiscation from registration from a NRA dad of my friend: 1976. First time I heard about liberals causing forest fires in California by prohibiting forest management: 1974. First time I heard all the jobs in California are moving to Texas: 1978

I recently found out by looking at an old map at the library that there was a freeway planned in the early 1970’s at the end of my street that never was. I t was an interchange linking all the local highways

I went down a whole CALTRANS 30 year master plan by reading a newspaper article about the topic.

Plan accurately predicted the 2004 population and proposed a grid system of freeways to optimize traffic flow

The idea was scrapped in wake of Prop 13 and I a lot of pushback from places like South Pasadena who said no to a freeway 60 years ago leaving them in an island of clogged freeways because 710 can’t connect to 210
Now we treat the surface streets like freeways I should add that compared to elsewhere we drive like hicks in Ventura County

It could have been back in use long ago if they just did their job when I first sent it in.

interesting. i thought pretty much everybody had fine print buried in there about how they won’t do replacements or repairs on x number of dead pixels in a display.

also “a few thousand pounds in the 70s” when I started at University of Cincinnati ( a state school and tuition was less than $300 a quarter and my off-campus rent was $30/mo) was around £1 = $2.50.
Compare that in the 70s and 80s I spent less than $1,000/year for tuition. Living expenses were minimal because I’m not really high maintenance (aka, also known as a cheap date). I eventually finished with a Master’s degree plus almost enough credit hours for my PhD but enough was enough.

But then, I just went to state universities and community colleges over the years, so pshaw…

It’s time to start reading Zelazny’s “Night in the Lonesome October”. Each chapter is one day in an October during the lead-up to a world-changing (and possibly world-ending) battle between the Openers and the Closers. My family was very poor. My education at a pricey private university was funded entirely through scholarships, summer jobs, and part-time work during the year. And work as a teaching assistant in graduate school.

But the only reason I could manage the costs was that school in the 1960’s was so much cheaper than education today. Whenever someone complains about how they managed college 40+ years ago, and kids today can’t, I try to remind them that the costs of education skyrocketed, well in excess of inflation. The cost at my school was about $1,710 in 1964; if the cost had kept pace with inflation, it would be $15,090 today; instead it’s $59,256.

I knew someone who did that, but only at Doctor Who conventions, and it was a Dalek megaphone he made from a Radioshack megaphone. It had the raised Dalek dots on it, and made your voice into a Dalek voice, using analog electronics.

He also made a sonic screwdriver that made the sound and lit up, which was stolen at a convention by someone in the row behind us in a panel.

Noticed yesterday in the La Palma live feed that the trees in front of the volcano looked backlit.

Sure enough, this evening enough lava is flowing behind them to become a river. So the camera angle now shows four outlets for lava: main vent in the background, then a lateral vent that had been quite the lava producer early on, then another vent closer to the camera that is now pouring out lots of lava, then even closer to the camera and behind the trees the new lava river. I don’t know if it is coming from a new vent or from a lava pool uphill:

But he’s in Washington DC. And $220,000 doesn’t buy you that much there.

Agreed, I don’t begrudge him that, but I do find it a little fishy that he immediately insured it for $700,000 which means he must have bought in foreclosure or got some sort of shady deal on it.

I like the Afar video stream for documentary purposes because of the clear time stamp, but the TV Canarias video is uncluttered and makes for a nicer landscape image:

It is very photogenic. Ok, so not the number one thing on the list of importance when houses and livelihoods are at stake. Still, it would be quite the opportunity for a landscape photographer if they made it to La Palma, sort of like Fagradalsfjall proved to be a boon for drone videographers.

Manchin’s boat has a lot more freeboard than most houseboats. Sort of like a yacht.

Unfortunately, Manchin would be replaced by a Trumper who lives more extravagantly and will consistently vote against anything and everything that helps their community but will be onboard with the white supremacism that motivates most of the state’s inhabitants.

late to this party (10/15 is looming)

call it whatever you want

it’s a voluntary / non essential purchase
if it was a mere motorcycle it would still be a large non essential purchase
this is magnitudes over that
it’s also is an indication of his continuing disposable cash flow available to keep it up and running

others in this country don’t have that discretionary income
let alone roads and bridges that dont fail or lead free pipes or internet

who is it that’s sitting in judgement of who is deserving?

Our office in Israel managed the compliance of shipments of contracted stuff back to The States. There is a snail in that part of the world that is death to agriculture and the USDA/EPA will kill to keep it out. One of our armor shipments sat around long enough to be grossly contaminated, and the lady handling the disaster became famous for “The Escargot Cargot”.

President Biden told the House Democratic caucus that bipartisan infrastructure package “ain’t going to happen until we reach an agreement on the next piece of legislation,” Punchbowl News reports.

Said Biden to reporters: “It doesn’t matter when. It doesn’t matter whether it’s six minutes, six days or six weeks. We’re going to get it done.”

meanwhile

“With Democrats pleading for a deal on a hard-fought social safety net bill, one of the key holdouts, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) left Washington on Friday. The reason, her spokesman said, was a medical appointment for a foot injury,” the New York Times reports.

“But on Saturday, she is also scheduled to attend her political action committee’s ‘retreat’ with donors at a high-end resort and spa in Phoenix, three different sources confirmed, including an attendee.”

He remains in custody at the Travis County Jail under a combine $40,000 bond for both charges.”

A lot of tweets there criticized the police officer for his take on the crime. Not particularly surprising given that police departments are infested with those who support Trump and officers like Chauvin.

‘Cause you had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
