I don’t want to hear any tell-alls from people who were there. They are telling us nothing about him that we didn’t know, namely that he is an abomination.

I want to see criminal charges. I want to see charges. I want to see a perp walk. I want to see the Orange Guys sweating bullets under cross-examination.

Yes, I got them all correct too - it wasn’t that hard, actually.

But there were a few things they put in the “conspiracy theory” category that really didn’t belong there, like the one that said “Trump conspired with Russia to steal the election.” Is that really a conspiracy theory, or something for which we actually don’t know the answer?

Because I don’t rule that one out. At all.

All these Trump sycophantic suckups are selling tell all books and trying to rehab their images by claiming they knew how bad Trump was only after working in Trumpworld and enabling his lies, covering up his crimes, and being an accomplice to the worst pandemic response in our history resulting in 500,000+ dead Americans and a wrecked economy.

No. The only way I want to hear from these fuckers is under oath at trials for everyone involved in Trumpworld and the nonstop chaos and criminal misconduct.

Grisham’s role was chief propagandist to cover up Trump lies and crimes.

That was her fucking job. She lied to the media every fucking day. She got paid by taxpayers to lie to them about the state of Trumpworld and the government on a daily basis.

She sabotaged the US government because she was a Trump toady.

His team colluded with Russians to provide propaganda at key points in the campaigns to persuade voters to support him. Wikileaks clearly was affiliated with the Russians. But voting equipment was probably not tampered with to change the results of votes that were cast.

It’s still astonishing how late night hosts are doing a better job with the news reporting than actual news outlets, and how awful our WH/Congressional/political news journalists are at asking basic questions, let alone follow ups.

I think it comes down to framing. Late night hosts can play off things as humorous, but the journalists need continued access and they feel like they have to constantly spew nonsense to stay on the good side with policy insiders and sources.

McConnell is daring Schumer to try and lift the filibuster, even if it’s just a carve-out to raise - or even eliminate - the debt ceiling.

The latter is what the Dems should do - get rid of the filibuster and the debt ceiling forever.

There are two alternatives:

1) Mint a trillion dollar platinum coin (or two!)
2) Can the legality of the debt ceiling law be challenged?

Womp womp. Saturday Night Live’s season premiere, hosted by Owen Wilson with musical guest Kacey Musgraves, drew in 4.9 million total viewers—down 41% overall from SNL’s Chris Rock-hosted Season 46 premiere. These numbers make this premiere the all-time lowest rating for a SNL season premiere in the series’ 47-year history, as per Deadline.

However, it’s important to note these numbers only reflect live viewings on cable. This is the first season SNL is available to stream live on NBC’s Peacock, and since streaming numbers are typically kept under lock and key, there’s no telling how this affected the rating.

The live sketch variety show isn’t alone in its struggle when it comes to network ratings. But even with this new low, SNL remains a leader in cable viewership. Wilson’s episode still ended up with the second-highest ratings number in the 18-49 demographic for any comedy during this year’s Fall TV Premiere Week, behind another long-running titan, The Simpsons.

LOn John McCain: I met him in 1980 when he was in the Navy and teenage me was 2/3 more feral, and he was very personable and related to me on interpersonal level that I perceived as non phony. Whatever he became I remember him well. Wondering if any feral teens today will recall Senator Kirsten Sinema as fondly

What. The. Fuck.

Four major access points that Jan. 6 rioters used to break into and overtake the U.S. Capitol had something unusual in common: They were among a dozen or so ground-floor windows and glass-paned doors that had not been recently reinforced.
The majority of the Capitol’s 658 single-pane windows were quietly upgraded during a 2017-19 renovation of the historic building. The original wooden frames and glass were covered with a second metal frame containing bomb-resistant glass.

But planners skipped about a dozen ground-floor windows, including some located in doors, because they were deemed to be low risk in the event of implosion, largely due to their discreet or shielded location, or because the building couldn’t structurally handle the load of the heavier frames.

And whether by sheer luck, real-time trial and error, or advance knowledge by rioters, several of those vulnerable windows and two glass-paned doors — protected with only a thin Kevlar film added after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks — became easy entry points for hundreds of Trump supporters who overran and ransacked the building on Jan. 6.

You gotta wonder who had that information and passed it on to the insurrectionists.

(Source: AV Club)

Says a lot about TV and American culture I think. SNL has generally been poor to bad for years and The Simpsons regressed into a similar mode at least a decade ago.

Anecdotal only, but in the US there is a pretty solid attachment to watching the TV, regardless of quality of content, as a pastime. My brother and I both pretty much gave up on it a long time ago. Though I transitioned into a lot more on-line activity and computer gaming whereas my brother simply uses something else as background, like music or sportscasts, as he works.

I tend to think that people’s idea of what quality television is similar to people’s idea of what quality music is and everyone tends to look back on what they heard/saw when they were younger as better than what it is now. I occasionally catch an older episode of the Simpsons and a lot of them were mediocre at best.

That happens. The stuff that survives culturally for any duration is generally the higher quality works; e.g. the 80+% of the various genres that is poor is quickly forgotten while the better quality stuff survives and is remembered. And the “classic” rock musicians for example generally have more than their share of mediocre product that is not what is constantly played.

I will give Reverb and the merchant credit: they got me a return shipping label very speedily, though I did have to work through their online chat in order to have them provide me the shipping label in a way that I could actually see and print. Just a really strange guitar experience. Only one strat sound out of 5 selector positions. No difference in tone when I rolled both tone knobs off. I figured even if only one pickup was working, rolling the tone off should presumably have done something to the output. Didn’t hear anything noticeably different when I used the push-push, which on this strat was designed to split a humbucker for a single-coil sound. Well, same guitar model showing up tomorrow from Musiciansfriend, so if it does the same thing, I’ll know that it was something moronic that I’m not understanding, but I’ve owned a mexican strat before, and I don’t remember any drama about getting different sounds out of the switch blade.

The wrestler (his ring name is Tyrus) has been a Fox contributor since 2016 but the belt he has was only won very recently. Within the past few months I believe. I’m guessing it was his decision to appear with it on his shoulder and Fox simply didn’t give a shit about it.

Except wrestling isn’t exactly a competition; it’s theater. Vince and Linda McMahon’s scriptwriters chose the “champion”.

re: #143 FFL (GOP Delenda Est)

Interesting. Is having the belt there for an interview thing supposed to grant some sort of additional authority? Or was he being asked questions directly related to the area he has some knowledge and authority in.

It’s strikes me as being similar to having Fauci appear in mortarboard and robes to proclaim his authority as a doctor.

He’s a semi-regular on that stupid Gutfeld show.

The way Fox is dumbing down, I wouldn’t be surprised if they added him to the Fall lineup.

Family Feud…

Maryland anti-vaxxer murdered his pharmacist brother because he believed vaccines were poison: prosecutors

46-year-old Jeffrey Burnham told his mother that he planned on confronting 58-year-old brother Brian Robinette because he was his own clients by getting them vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.

In addition to allegedly killing Robinette, he is also alleged to have killed 57-year-old sister-in-law Sue Robinette and and 83-year-old Rebecca Reynolds, a resident of Cumberland, Maryland whose car he stole and drove to his brother’s house.

“According to the charging documents filed Wednesday against Burnham related to the Howard County murders, Burnham told another unnamed person that his brother was ‘killing people with the COVID shot,’” reports the Baltimore Sun. “Burnham’s mother Evelyn Burnham previously expressed concerns about her younger son’s mental health. In charging documents filed against Burnham in Reynolds’ death in Allegany County, Evelyn Burnham called Cumberland police twice last week because of her son’s ‘mental stability’ after he made statements about the FBI ‘being after’ them both.”

I have bought two MIM Teles. The first I got in the aftermath of the 2008 crisis for $250 and the second a couple of years later for $300. Both off of Craigslist, which I doubt I’d use right now. The pickups definitely all worked, but they were the worst thing about both guitars—both played quite well needing no real modification. The pickups went from shrill (bridge) to dull (neck) to mud (both). I gave one guitar to my son and he still plays the original pups, but through a little Fender amp with lots of preloaded settings that actually sort of ameliorate the problems with the pups; but the other has pretty good Bill Lawrence pups that I put in that chime well and don’t sound awful (the $250 one). I’m thinking of upgrading the pickups in that one at some point, but want to do something about my son’s for when he comes home from college for Xmas. I’ve heard good things about Toneriders. Curious if anyone has used these or knows of good inexpensive pickups for Teles. The Toneriders come in at about $120 for the pair.

Two arguments against Cruz in this (wild ass) scenario:

2. Cruz is, ultimately a fucking coward with little conviction

I haven’t used those. I think I was maybe a level up from that on my mexico strat. It was probably a precursor to the Player series (it’s been more than 10 years since I bought it.) I did own a Mexican telecaster, I think a kind of reissue of a 72 thinline, and while I can’t remember for certain, I think it had just one single coil pickup. I played it through a traynor amp, and it definitely sounded like a tele :-) I have been told that changing pickups in a Mexican strat can make an absolute world of difference in player satisfaction. I’m watching Bob Margolin on some video from Hal Leonard, and the man’s tele definitely looks like it has been through the wars, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of being there.

Inexpensive? No not really but I’d Seymour Duncan these days: seymourduncan.com

I’m just thinking I need to get a bigsby B3 for my Casino Coupe.

Always a solid choice. That’s what my friend uses to get good tones (rails).

One of the law enforcement officers in Southern California who was a member of the Oath Keepers in the past, according to the Orange County Register, is Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.

This really doesn’t surprise me at all. I can’t remember a time when the Orange County Sheriff and the Riverside County Sheriffs *weren’t* shady. I wouldn’t be surprised if every inland department and even some of the bigger ones were run by these traitors.

Oh, I forgot about them. That’s a good choice too.

Since I’ve been on hiatus, I’ve gotten a couple of guitars loaded with Arcane pickups, and they’re amazing. Also kinda pricey, but their ‘61 Experience Strat set might be the best Stratocaster replacements I’ve ever heard.

For Teles, there’s a company in LA called Budz, and they made the pickups in my Danocaster Tele. All of the twang without the shrillness of a lot of Tele pickups. Just a really good modern Tele tone.
