Went to see AJ Croce tonight playing his dad’s music and a whole lot more of his own. Fantastic piano player and songwriter. Played a couple of songs he wrote with Leon Russell. Played a ragtime jam into Billy Preston’s ‘Will it go round in circles’ that was off the fucking hook.

Super fun and intimate show at a winery. Everyone vaccinated and still wearing masks.

Successful launch, booster stage and fairing separated successfully, now in burn for Earth orbit prior to heading out in the black.

It’s a nice sunny Saturday morning here in Yurp, so easy for me to watch. During Trump’s Reign of Error, mornings were the quiet time before the daily insanity started around 1pm Central European Time, so at least we got some mental rest.

Also, this seems to me to be an excellent way to weed out the really (potentially) bad cops. Being antivax has a high correlation with being the sort to support — or be — insurrectionists. A shortage of officers is better than having potential backstabbers among the ranks.

Rob Skiba — said to have come home from a Christian-centric Take On The World conference in August not feeling well — was also a COVID vaccine skeptic, the Daily Beast reports. It was from that conference he allegedly posted a message on Facebook noting that “within I’d say 2 to 3 years or so” we’ll know whether vaccines were a solution or a problem.

He had in the past talked about his conspiracy theory that vaccines are the mark of the beast and said that there would be a fake pandemic to force everyone to take the mark. Anyone dumb enough to believe that nonsense was going to become a problem in a pandemic.

I have an acquaintance who, after his wife (my best friend) passed away, found a home with the NRA — and this home seems to provide the same support and worldview as the Q-Anon cult. He has a PhD in history and theoretically should know better but he’s an outright racist whose only focus is on protecting gun rights for white people. It’s not that he loves Trump but he hates Democrats. The one topic on which he dissented from the GOP was the tax cut for the rich; his very vocal attacks could have been written by Bernie Sanders.

Well, exactly - because the world is always changing. As I said, I was able to do the supposedly “traditional” family because I didn’t have to deal with student loans, but that is a huge burden for a lot of today’s young people. My mom taught me all the homemaking skills in case I ended up as a bachelor, but I can still put them to good use to take care of my wife when she needs a break.

A wealthy Trump donor who helped finance the rally in Washington on Jan. 6 also gave $150,000 to the nonprofit arm of the Republican Attorneys General Association, records show, funds that a person familiar with the contribution said were intended in part to promote the rally. The nonprofit organization paid for a robocall touting a march that afternoon to the U.S. Capitol to “call on Congress to stop the steal.”

On Dec. 29, Julie Jenkins Fancelli, daughter of the founder of the Publix grocery store chain, gave the previously undisclosed contribution to RAGA’s nonprofit Rule of Law Defense Fund, or RLDF, records reviewed by The Washington Post show. On the same day, the records show that Fancelli gave $300,000 to Women for America First, the “Stop the Steal” group that obtained a permit for the rally featuring former president Donald Trump.

Funding for the events in Washington that day is a focus of the House select committee investigating the violent riot at the U.S. Capitol that followed the rally. The panel is also interested in the role state officials, including attorneys general, played in encouraging people to go to Washington on Jan. 6 and in supporting Trump’s efforts to overturn the election, according to people familiar with the committee’s work.

This is why we need to reinstate a 90% Inheritance Tax on the wealthy.

Seems like fewer men and women have kitchen skills among the young. If you have a tiny kitchen it’s harder to get it all done. And it’s so much easier to cook dinner if you are not both just home from the commute at 7.

and although Germany i very progressive on matters like maternity/paternity leave for parents (three years, which the partners can split up any way they choose), it is overwhelmingly the women to take it.

We had this washing machine that had an alarm to signal when it was done. But the alarm does not go off when you open the door, you have to switch it off separately, which you often don’t notice until you have a basket of clothes in your hands to set down.

I realized that this system was probably designed by some engineer who never did a load of laundry on his own ever.

Our town consistently leads the surveys of fast food/population. FIL drove around with us and said he’d bet there hadn’t been a stove sold in our town in 10 years.

Mrs. Fish had the same problem with cooking way too much, and we would fairly frequently have to toss leftovers. Me, I grew up with one sister, and my mom never cooked a huge meal unless the extended family was coming over. Scaling up recipes takes some weird brain bending, and I frequently undercook large dishes.

I grilled a turkey breast a few days ago. It triggered discussion of how I’ve cooked all holiday birds on a Webber knockoff we bought in the Yongsan PX in 1980. It’s definitely showing the mileage (about 36,000). I keep looking at new Webbers at Lowe’s, but I’m afraid it wouldn’t work if I disrespect the old grill’s mana.

I took a 3 week ‘sewing’ class in high school. My best friend could make clothes that she would wear. I made a pair of pants that I wore, but it was back in the day of low-riding bell bottoms. I am so lucky that nobody at school had a camera.

I have dangly and safety-pinned cuff-buttons on 3 shirts because I can’t find my round to-its.

I heard a discussion of that by a medical professional. He said it won’t harm people to wait two weeks until they make that determination. Sounds like good advice to me.

Do you have a hot compress on your nose/cheekbones? My mother swore by it (a washcloth dipped in very hot water was her weapon of choice).

I suspect that something similar, or a seasonal cold, is what is afflicting me. I will be taking a COVID test tomorrow, so we’ll find out early next week if I’m too late for a booster.
