Michele: Out of the closet, Into the fire  Oct 16, 2021 • 10:30:44am

Between the long hours and the health risks of working an active gaming floor, it just wasn’t worth it anymore. I was fortunate enough to have money set back in both savings and my 401K to be able to say fuck it and throw in the towel. Haven’t regretted it. Yet.

Pushing back on anti vaxx

Over 90,000 COVID-19 deaths since June 2021 likely would have been prevented with vaccinations
healthsystemtracker.org

Methods
We used the KFF COVID-19 Tracker data for average daily and monthly total COVID-19 deaths in the United States. October 2021 average COVID-19 deaths from COVID-19 are averaged through October 7, 2021. For data on deaths due to other leading causes, we used monthly provisional counts of death by select causes, 2020-2021. For other leading causes, we used CDC data for weekly counts of death by select underlying causes of death. For other leading causes from the weekly counts CDC file, only MMWR weeks 1-25 are included in average daily deaths for 2021. The average daily deaths for accidents and suicides are from 2020. Heart disease deaths were combined for all circulatory disease except stroke. Stroke represents cerebrovascular disease. In the second chart, respiratory disease represents chronic lower respiratory disease and the 2020 average daily deaths for accidents are reported.

For age-specific rank of COVID-19 deaths among other leading causes of death, we used CDC provisional COVID-19 deaths data by age for January - June 2021 (as of August 18, 2021) and CDC provisional death counts for other leading causes. Infants were excluded from this analysis as the 15th leading cause of death based on 2019 CDC Wonder data had a monthly average greater than the highest COVID-19 death count for this age group in any given month in 2021. For age-specific leading causes for which 2021 monthly provisional death counts were not available, we used CDC Wonder data for 2019 for age-specific average monthly death counts…

I’ve had a couple VERY ABUSIVE managers that got me to the point where I wanted to quit and get a new job. But when you are over 30 and trying to get a job in private industry the door is slammed in your face with three words

You’re
Too
Old.

So I just rolled with the punches until the 2 asshole managers finally went too far and pissed off the wrong person in the regional office. Now I just go thru the motions starting the day with putting another X on the calendar which brings me one day closer to getting the full pension and then leaving.

Per woldometer, for the first time during the pandemic Russia has broken 1000 in official deaths. Wonder what’s really going on there. Is the government trying to scare the population into getting vaccinated?

A couple of days ago, I saw a headline ‘Russia sees most deaths in one day since start of pandemic’. I thought, ‘wow, things are in bad shape there’. The next day I saw the headline ‘Oregon sees most deaths since start of pandemic’.

Most likely. You can multiply that number by maybe 4 or 5 to get the real number, and I doubt anyone at any level actually knows for sure. Russia is overrun with conspiracy theories, a lot of them encouraged by state media, and the vaccines are just one more. My old relatives there are thankfully vaccinated, but none of the people my age even though most have gotten COVID already (and I’m guessing will get it again). I don’t know how this is going to stop.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area.

It isn’t some great mystery why people are quitting jobs. If you’re in retail or food service, it’s the customers who treat everyone else like shit and risk everyone’s lives with aggressive bulkshit. Business owners aren’t helping their own cause by treating workers like crap, and then saying that they’ll pay more now - when they had the ability to pay more all along.

Workers are realizing that they have more power to set wages than before, and businesses that treat workers like crap will continue to have trouble finding workers. The pandemic has reset priorities for a lot of people, including on education and child care, which are undervalued and underpaid.

And even people who get a decent wage are treated like crap. For example, on my job I have to account for every minute I work. If we do not account we are stealing time. And when we use sick time it is a similar situation. We must be by the home phone waiting for them to call us to make sure we are at home and not somewhere else. Even when we go to the doctor we must have the time we arrived and the time we leave.

I have a dream that “well, why can’t we continue to work from home? And just visit the office for a few days a month?” turns into a hundred thousand liberalish techies from San Francisco and Seattle (and their liberalish spouses) moving to Montana and Wyoming. It wouldn’t take all that many libs to turn those sparsely populated states purple…

They should contain from five hundred to six hundred pages, and be bound in covers as flexible as possible and with spring backs. My office sent everyone to work at home about four months before I retired. I’d already been in the retirement mode for about a year due to a supervisor creating a dysfunctional work group. For that last four months, I REALLY missed going to the office. I only lived three miles away so the commute wasn’t an issue, and I was still as stuck to being near to the computer at home as I was at work.
The day I retired was incredibly depressing. Deep into the second wave of covid, I just unhooked the office computer, dragged it back to the empty office, gathered up all my personal stuff (half of which is still in a box in the garage), and went home to isolate.
I’m happy as hell that I don’t work for that supervisor any more, but I do occasionally miss the office environment and the people there. I’m just now getting back into thinking it’s somewhat safe to resume a normal life, but the new normal still ain’t no party…

We begged Vaxman…and Vaxman delivered a new addition to the Gallery Of Shame!

Lora Reinbold, 57, Eagle River, AK, GOP State Senator, anti-vaxxer, tests positive for COVID

According to tons of stories, Lora has COVID, but I’ll share this one. It says “GOP” next to her title above but she’s been kicked out of the Republican caucus. She’s a known anti-masker and anti-vaxxer who gained tons of attention when she refused to abide by the Alaska Airlines mask mandate and got banned from Alaska Airlines. You can see the footage of the altercation linked here. She claims to have COVID and is at home taking horse paste, or rather, Ivermectin. I’ve become quite wary of these extreme Ivermectin pushing anti-vaxxers who just go ahead and announce to the world that they have COVID. People like Joe Rogan, Laura Loomer, and Ben Garrison come to mind, and those were clearly stunts (the latter two launched their new books during their “sickness”). BUT, Lora is now the most submitted anti-vaxxer to the site to date, and I’m a people pleaser so here we are.
