It has something to do with when Charles was in Japan when he was, like, 20 years old. And thatā€™s all Iā€™ve been able to ascertain after about 16, 17 years of reading the blog.

The final maps have been approved for Unicameral districts in Nebraska. My state senator Steve Erdman has an op-ed in every Panhandle paper arguing that Omaha shouldnā€™t get another senator at the expense of the Panhandle just because Omahaā€™s population grew and ours shrank. His claim is rural areas arenā€™t being represented properly.

Legislative district 47, which is the district that I represent, has now changed. Banner County and Kimball County have been moved into district 48, while Grant County and all of Box Butte County, including the City of Alliance have now been added into district 47. While this was not my choice, I look forward to meeting all those who have been moved into district 47.

My vote against the legislative district map should in no way be misconstrued as a vote against Grant County, Box Butte County or the City of Alliance. Instead, I voted against the legislative district map because it took a seat away from rural Nebraska and added one to Sarpy County, giving more representation to the greater Omaha metropolitan area and worsening the rural vs. urban divide which already exists in our state.

Gee, what will be the main story on the Sunday Gasbag shows tomorrow?

American missionaries and family members kidnapped in Haiti

A group of 17 missionaries and family members ā€” primarily Americans ā€” were kidnapped in Haiti on Saturday after returning from a site visit to an orphanage, according to an audio alert from their Christian aid group and a person familiar with the abduction, marking the latest in a wave of kidnappings to grip the spiraling Caribbean nation.

An audio described as a ā€œprayer alertā€ from Ohio-based Christian Aid Ministries and obtained by The Washington Post stated that ā€œmen, women and childrenā€ associated with the group were being held by an armed gang. Those abducted included organization staff as well as family members, according to the recording.

ā€œThe mission field director and the American embassy are working to see what can be done,ā€ the voice on the recording stated. It later added, ā€œPray that the gang members will come to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.ā€

Fat chance, folksā€¦Watch Republicans trash Joe tomorrow morning over this!

He ran unopposed in the last election. Considering how conservative my area is, that would be a real slog for anyone to the left of Attila the Hun to win here.

That said, if no one files to run, he wins by default. The filing fee is $120, and has to be paid personally by the candidate to run for the Unicameral.

Iā€™m going to try. I am hampered by the fact I have no idea how to set up a campaign operation (that was never required for me on my three runs for the village board). Pulpit pimp panorama at Wonkette:

Look Younger And More Vibrant With Jesus Ladyā€™s Plan To Cast Out Evil Spirits Of Death

Meet Katie Souza! Sheā€™s a kooky gal who supposedly led a life of crime and drugs and danger before becoming an evangelist. In a recent (okay, two weeks ago but I kept meaning to get to it!) episode of ā€œSid Rothā€™s ā€˜Itā€™s Supernatural!,ā€™ one of my favorite fundie talk shows on the YouTube because of how he reminds me of Kane from Poltergeist, Souza explained how one can stay young forever simply by banishing the Evil Spirit of Deathā€ from their lives. Which means I have been spending way too much money on skincare products.

What is the Evil Spirit of Death? Letā€™s let Katie explain:

The spirit of death is active in the world at every moment, heā€™s putting death on peopleā€™s bodies, heā€™s causing rapid aging, heā€™s causing disease, disorder, heā€™s also killing off finances and marriages and relationships.

And Sid, honestly, I believe that when we transition to heaven as a born-again believer, that we just do that. We lay down at Godā€™s appointed time and we just transition to our place in glory.

If the spirit of death is in the room at the time of our death, it usually means that weā€™re dying of a disease or something that was not the will of God.

Well that is just science.

Per the article itā€™s one asshole lawyer behind most of these cases:

The lawsuits follow much of the same format; families have gotten a prescription for the drug, but hospitals refuse to use it on the patients, many of whom are on a ventilator, close to death, the news outlet noted.

Many of the lawsuits are filed by Ralph Lorigo, an attorney in Buffalo, N.Y. who says doctors ā€œare not gods because they wear white jackets,ā€ adding that he takes issue with the choice not to use ivermectin on patients, according to the AP.

Article also notes almost none of these cases have been successful.

State crime news:

The Nebraska State Patrol apprehended three juveniles involved in a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 100 mph early Saturday morning.

The driver of the vehicle was an 11-year-old boy. The two passengers were 14-year-old boys.

Shortly before 1 a.m., the Nebraska State Patrol received a report that a Jeep Gladiator ā€” which had been stolen in Lincoln ā€” was headed east toward Omaha on Interstate 80, according to a press release from the State Patrol.

A trooper spotted the vehicle on I-80 and attempted a traffic stop near the 42nd Street interchange. The vehicle stopped briefly, but fled as the trooper attempted to make contact with the driver. The trooper initiated a pursuit.

The Jeep continued east, reaching speeds of 110 mph, and a handgun was thrown from the window, according to the State Patrol.

The Jeep voluntarily stopped near the 20th Street overpass.

Troopers took the three occupants into custody. A second handgun was found inside the vehicle. State Patrol determined that both guns were stolen.

This is why the far right is so vehement about the county sheriff being the highest law enforcement they think has any authority; theyā€™re quite convinced that State or Federal agents are just ā€œoutside agitatorsā€ with no right to interfere in the local doings.

You left out the Ahmed Aubery case; they only got caught because one of their friends put the whole thing on his iPhone, apparently not realizing anybody might object in any way once they saw it. (also, youā€™re downplaying the Murdaughs if you think theyā€™re movie-of-the-week material ā€” it would take a whole season of American Crime Story to adequately cover the 5 bodies so far and $10M missing in two separate embezzlement schemes.)

Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald, eleven hours ago:

Police: Woman raped on Pennsylvania train as bystanders did nothing

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) ā€” A woman was raped by a stranger on a commuter train in suburban Philadelphia in the presence of other riders who a police official said ā€œshould have done something.ā€

Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt of the Upper Darby Police Department said officers were called to the 69th Street terminal around 10 p.m. Wednesday after the assault on the westbound train on the Market-Frankford Line.

An employee of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority who was in the vicinity as the train went past called police to report that ā€œsomething wasnā€™t rightā€ with a woman aboard the train, Bernhardt said.

SEPTA police waiting at the next stop found the woman and arrested a man. The woman was taken to a hospital.

Thereā€™s this, and the other case east of Houston of the brodozer kid trying to roll coal on six triathletes on bikes who hit them and put them in the hospital while the local police chief just covered it up. And Manchinā€™s coal empire and his daughterā€™s impunity, and the ruling family of a South Carolina county turning into a Southern Gothic movie-of-the-week, and on and on.

This sort of shit is Trumpworld: these feudal societies out of view of the major cities, where generations of princelings run the industries, police, and local governments by right of divine rule, and will fight to the death (at least other peopleā€™s deaths) to retain it. The face of Trumpworld is the asshole who raped his way through high school and inherited the local Ford dealership from his daddy. Theyā€™ve always been there, but now weā€™re seeing more of what they do.

Too bad that Manchinā€™s survival in the Senate is crucial to Bidenā€™s survival. If Manchin had to leave for whatever reason, the GOP governor would replace him with a member of his party ā€” and in the next election, the red, red state would elect a Republican. As bad as Manchin is, he is light years ahead of the next person who would be selected(or elected) to fill his position.

I intend to contact Omaha state senator Megan Huntā€™s office and the Nebraska Democratic Party to see if they can give me some tips or help.

COVID-19 testing will not be required to enter the U.S. by land or sea, provided visitors meet vaccination requirements, officials said.

Thatā€™s to ENTER the U.S. The way I interpreted the CBC article, Canada is the one requiring the test to reenter. I could be wrong, but itā€™s something I highly suggest you make sure of before entering the U.S. Would hate for you to get stuck for 3 or more days waiting for a test result.

If fully vaccinated, travellers will not have to quarantine upon arrival into Canada, provided they have a negative test and are not symptomatic.

Basically, if your trip is less than 3 days, you can take a COVID test before you leave and the results of that test can be used as your proof of a negative test on re-entry.

The problem is that taking a COVID test here, the results may not come back for 72 hours, which is a pickle. I took one a couple of weeks ago because I lost my sense of smell (negative, likely sinus infection) and it took 2.5 days to get the results back. Shit.

One thing that bothers meā€¦I canā€™t find her Bureau of Prisons record, because sheā€™s thoroughly deep-sixed whatever her name was before she married Robert Souza. Because, yeah, when someone makes extraordinary claims (like getting a 12 year prison sentence from the feds in 1999, and yet your ministry was started in 2006, and we know the feds donā€™t do parole), then something doesnā€™t smell quite right.

Freedom is more than just what you want.

If Iā€™m a MAGAt, freedom means that I can do whatever I want, and you can do whatever I want too.

While on the subject of Pulpit Pimps they sure do love to circle the wagons when they come under attack for being assholes!

This guy can kiss my fat, pasty-white hiney, except Iā€™d kick him in the nuts if he got close. Lt. Gov. Robinson (R-NC) said some terrible things about LGBTQIA people, demonstrated that he doesnā€™t recognize our humanity and shouldnā€™t be in public office. Fuck that noise. Iā€™m TIRED of this nonsense. I am who I am, and stop trying to make me into something Iā€™m not!

They are dangerous if they shoot first.

I will acknowledge this is very true, but if you rush it, itā€™s not going to get everyone before you douse it in grease, diatomaceous earth, vinegar and acid. Or just wait until itā€™s out of ammo and then rush it.

Half a percent. From the messages they post on the internet you would think it is much higher.

Itā€™s because the media is constantly elevating the few non compliant assholes with ā€œProfile in Courageā€ type stories.

I want an automatic ban from flying on any airline. I would like a full ban on public transportation if they act like an asshole on the train or bus also.
