Stardust - Hoagy Carmichael (Ft. Josh Turner)

Hello everyone! It’s been a while!

I’m sorry that I haven’t been posting as much, but hopefully this makes up for lost time :)

Josh and I have been buds for quite some time now, as we met virtually through Instagram in 2014. At that time we were both posting short 15 second clips of music covers and at that time not alot of other people were doing this. I’m so glad that we were able to connect and grow a friendship in real life! He is such a gifted musician, and I am truly so honored to create alongside him.

The biggest reason we chose this song is mainly because any time I have done a poll online or asked my followers to send me a song request, he has never sent me any other song than “Stardust”.
This song is so hauntingly beautiful, and when he said that he was coming through Nashville recently I knew this was the song we needed to do!

**ALSO** This song is available on all streaming platforms for everyone to hear! You can purchase it on Apple music and Amazon music as well.

It’s a fucking cesspool. And quite frankly, irredeemable. The only way to make it better is to shut it down, start over, and have an army of moderators at the ready and build a community and *get rid of the trash.* That ain’t happening, so, whatevs…

Fucking Reddit these days does a better job of moderation than Twitter. If that ain’t saying something…

In practice, there is no way to have sufficient moderators to detect in real time violations of TOS in English, let alone almost all other languages in use on this planet. Twitter — Facebook — youtube — too much out there and not enough time to monitor everything. They do a bad enough job on handling the more limited amount of material that is reported to them.

This is one of the societal sentiments that led to Donald fucking Trump as President of the United States. And we’re taking the same tack with government, politics, media, social media, etc.

At our fucking peril.

Sounds like grounds for an anti-monopoly action against them, then. If their company is so large they can’t control it, then maybe they need some help.

Willard did vote in favor of conviction both times, but Mr. 47% showed his true character when he met with Trump for a possible cabinet position. And even earlier, back in 2012, when he refused to take credit for the ACA. He’s a plutocrat, who will take any position if it will further his goals of gaining more power. But he does deserve some credit for his votes on impeachment.

He really doesn’t. Once you acknowledge that someone is a political opportunist and their actions are geared towards the attaining and maintaining of power, then acts such as voting for something when you know it has absolutely no chance of happening do not show a sign of anything other than calculation. Consider the reports in recent days that Repubs who Trump has targeted for their votes on impeachment/election have banked more money towards reelection than potential challengers.

This website gets visited many hundreds of thousands of times per day consistently, there’s a few thousand comments that get posted per day on busy news cycles. ONE FUCKING GUY, Charles Johnson, moderates all that shit. And you’re telling me Facebook and Twitter, with their tens of thousands of programmers and hundreds of thousands of support staff can’t moderate their websites? You’re fucking full of shit if you believe that.

23
teleskiguy  Oct 20, 2021 • 10:01:55pm

How much money did Facebook make in the last quarter? I’ll bet a lot of money. Money they could use to hire programmers and moderators in many different languages to make the website safe and fun for their users. Gee, why the fuck aren’t they doing that???

I’ve already told my family that about half the songs so far listed will be on a playlist for my funeral. I don’t want a quiet, somber affair where people mope and cry. I want people to be having fun, trading stories, and in general celebrating that I lived.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been named as a defendant in a Cambridge Analytica complaint brought on by Washington D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine.

Racine announced Zuckerberg’s personal involvement on Wednesday morning. The lawsuit has been going on since 2018.

The lawsuit was filed in response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, where millions of people’s personal data was collected by the firm without their permission. The scandal eventually saw Zuckerberg testify before Congress.

Specifically, the lawsuit alleged that Facebook violated the District’s Consumer Protection Procedures Act, by misleading users about how their data was secured, not monitoring how third-party apps like the app that gave the data to Cambridge Analytica were using it, and making the social media giant’s privacy settings “ambiguous.”

PayPal Holdings Inc.’s quest to become a “super-app” may be kicking into a new gear following reports that the company has held acquisition talks with Pinterest Inc.

The financial-technology company has been expanding beyond payments and into other areas of financial services and commerce, driven by a revamp of its app to emphasize features like crypto purchasing and savings accounts, as well as recent acquisitions, including of the deals platform Honey.

The goal is to become a “super-app” similar to apps like WeChat and Alipay, which have become dominant in Asia by bundling financial services along with features like messaging, social media, and food delivery. PayPal PYPL, -4.91% isn’t the only fintech company with super-app aims—Affirm Holdings Inc. AFRM, -4.96% has expressly stated its ambitions here, and Square Inc. SQ, +0.37% has been beefing up its business through acquisitions—but so far the parties don’t seem to be branching too far outside of financial services and commerce, unlike the Chinese trailblazers.

These white heritage people… I mean, French, Spanish, Portugese, Italian, Greek, German, Polish, Ukranian, Irish, Swedish, Hungarian, and a dozen more, these are all vibrant cultures that each have a language, a history, a religion, a cuisine, painting and sculpture and architecture and music and clothing of a particular, identifiable origin — it’s the absolute opposite of cultural pride and respect for one’s heritage to reject all of that in favor of “I’m white”. I guarantee there’s not a single European, in any European nation, that thinks any two of the above-named are the least little bit interchangeable.

Salt Lake County calculated COVID-19 vaccination rates by zodiac sign. The news is not good for Scorpios. (Salt Lake Tribune)

Surprising perhaps no one, Salt Lake County residents born under the exuberant, high-achieving, let-no-opportunity-pass sign of Leo have been vaccinated for the coronavirus at higher rates than those of any other zodiac sign.

That’s according to an analysis of immunization and population data released this week by the Salt Lake County Health Department.

The department found that vaccination rates vary dramatically by astrological sign, from 70% of Leos to just 46% of Scorpios, who, if zodiac stereotypes hold true, perhaps hope to contract COVID-19 in order to deliberately infect someone else in retaliation against a perceived slight.

“We already weaponize ourselves,” health department spokesman Nicholas Rupp — himself a vaccinated Scorpio — said of the most notoriously intense grudge-holders in the cosmos.

Humiliation is a large tool in the racist playbook. Part of maintaining power and fear over others is purposefully trying to humiliate them and deriding their abilities.

When they start complaining that they are on the receiving end of the same it strikes me as flak being tossed since the bombs are hitting close to the target.

Some of her songs are better than others. Love Story is a cute retelling of Romeo and Juliet with a key change that leads to a positive end for example.

Though I’d be tempted to do a set that started with that and ended with Dire Straits take on the same story from the Making Movies album… ;)

The Department for International Trade (DIT) said the “groundbreaking” agreement will cut the price of New Zealand sauvignon blanc wine by 20p - which is its current tariff - and make Manuka honey and kiwi fruits cheaper.

It will also create more chances for Britons to live and work in New Zealand - and “deeper cooperation on digital trade and climate change”, the ministry said.

However, critics have pointed out DIT’s own 180-page analysis of its aims for a New Zealand free trade agreement produced in June 2020.

It said: “A trade agreement with New Zealand could have limited effects on UK GDP in the long run [15 years], with the estimated impact on GDP being close to zero under both scenarios compared to the UK not having a trade deal with New Zealand (between 0.00% and 0.01% in scenario 1 and -0.01% and 0.00% in scenario 2).”

On the other hand, it seems some Brits are scared:

Farmers have warned of “huge downsides” to Boris Johnson’s new trade deal with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The deal, agreed on Wednesday, is said to cut red tape for businesses and end tariffs on exports, according to the government.

But British farmers say the trade deal “could damage the viability of many British farms in the years ahead”.

National Farmers’ Union president Minette Batters said the deal, coupled with the earlier agreement signed with Australia, will open the UK to “significant extra volumes of imported food” while “securing almost nothing in return for UK farmers”.

British farmers warn of ‘huge downsides’ to PM’s New Zealand trade deal

It’s hard to know what is the truth in these sort of things, until after the matter.

Sounds like grounds for an anti-monopoly action against them, then. If their company is so large they can’t control it, then maybe they need some help.

The government could take it over. But that still wouldn’t fix it.

The problem with regulating companies on the internet is they aren’t offering products that are restricted by the laws of supply. They aren’t limited resources. And because of that, it’s not the company that determines their size, but the behavior of their users.

Twitter and Facebook became huge because people are going to migrate to a common place to communicate. Other companies, even large ones like Google, have tried to split off people, with no real success, not because they don’t offer a decent product, but because users want to talk to each other.

And no, especially with the first amendment in our country, is there a way to effectively regulate what is said, unless a company hired nearly as many people to monitor as their are users.

…added to the fact that many of the aforementioned population of racists within each country would preclude many others on that list to be listed as “white” at all.

This is a niche website. If suddenly a hundred thousand people decided to join, and then they brought their friends, Charles would have to severely restrict how people join or shut the site down. And the single page format just wouldn’t support that many people. He wouldn’t be able manage a large number of people.

There’s also more than just Charles; he has moderators. I don’t know much about the mechanics of it, but I’m quite sure it’s more than just him. They may just be people who are dedicated to going through comments and reporting them to the Boss for disposal.

So, food news here. I got myself an instant pot. 6 quart variety. I’ve already had first dish made: a chicken marsala. Riffed on the recipe I saw online for it. I don’t know if it truly saved time, but it did make it fire and forget: less work over a stove, and let the pressure cooker do its thing.

It came out very tasty, though I wonder if the chicken was truly moist enough considering. Maybe cooked too long.

Next up? Hummus from dried chickpeas.

My favorite new appliance is the air fryer.

Our air fryer has almost completely replaced our deep fryer; the only thing I’d haul out the deep fryer for is for things which are hand-battered. Frozen snacks are easily done in the air fryer, are healthier that way, and are just as tasty.

I love my Instant Pot. To help with moister, I cook in a vac seal bag with a bit of water or marinade. Haven’t had a dry or over cooked piece of meat yet.

We have cooked ribs in less than an hour in one. You can throw them in the oven for a little bit afterwards if you like them charred, but they came off the bone when we cooked in the pot.

That was one aspect that hadn’t occurred to me: it’s a lot simpler to read through a single page to track down possibly offensive comments than to have to search through hundreds of separate pages each of which may have dozens — or hundreds — of separate comments

Not having to soak dried beans overnight is one of my favorite things about the instant pot. Can make a bean soup in less than an hour straight from the bag. There are some recipes that call for setting the instant pot to just a few minutes with beans and liquid, then turn off pot and let soak for an hour. But I never do that.

I don’t know if this is a statistical anomaly caused by some big state catching up on its reporting, but the JHU Coronavirus website reported 3,071 deaths in the last day, just when it seemed deaths had started to decline. coronavirus.jhu.edu

Last night, I had posted about a discrepancy for Oklahoma: “As of 10/19, Johns Hopkins shows accumulated total of 9,402 deaths while Worldometer has 10,376.” Today, JHU shows 10,540 deaths for Oklahoma. So it looks like the JHU report may be due to an update in Oklahoma statistics, not a reflection of deaths on 10/20.

This is why talk of switching parties is so questionable.

The advisory boards are generally filled with important political supporters. In this case, they are leaving en masse.

It will drive away many of the current supporters who got the politician elected. With little likelihood in this polarized age, of replacing them with enough of the other sides voters to ensure election. Assuming that they even clear a primary challenge.

As a method of achieving career suicide through burning one’s own political house down, though, it is indeed fairly effective.

Senator Jeffords of Vermont did switch from GQP to Dem in 2001. But he did not run for re-election, and retired from the senate 6 years later.

I think that you are bringing up the big question here:

What is her goal?

Because her current behavior does not look sustainable beyond her current term.

I am assuming, of course, that she is smart enough and disciplined enough to have a goal.

Beyond angering everybody. Because, she has definitively and successfully achieved that already.

It’s obvious! She is grabbing as much cash as she can and she doesn’t care who she alienates. She won’t run for re-election.

OK, we’re 21 hours in from the Covid (Pfizer) booster and flu shots. And yeah, I feel like I have a cold. Plus my arms are sore. That said, the nurse said to regularly exercise the arms and I would feel better. ETA It does bring relief, so do it.

What’s driving me nuts is I feel like I need to sneeze but it’s not happening. I am glad I got this done before going back to work on Monday.

Given that there might be information not available to the public which would make her behavior make sense. However, it seems from my point of view that there are two options:
1) She has deluded herself into thinking her current behavior will not be a detriment to being reelected - assuming she runs for another term.
2) Her goal was to convert a single 6-year term as a US Senator into a future cushy job plus probably banking away a decent sum of cash by the time her term is complete. (I don’t know what the current rules are for unspent campaign funds are, but I presume there is still something in place allowing them to cash them out to their own benefit still since if I recall correctly that could be done in the past.)*

* - Probably with some stipulations, but I always thought it was sort of shady that they could eventually take that money. If not, then presumably it can be donated to other campaigns and thus be used as a way to purchase some influence of something in the future.

I think that you are correct about the not running for re-election. Her running successfully certainly seems to be becoming more and more remote a possibility.

Like you I am wondering about the financial side. I just wonder how well she could monetize her single term senate seat and remain on this side of the legal system.

I have not had my covid booster yet. But the flu shot did have me feeling a bit under the weather for a day. The first time I recall ever having had that happen.

Impeachment manager says Trump lawyers acted ‘like members of a religious cult’

“…Rep. Jamie Raskin, the impeachment manager tapped by the House to oversee proceedings against former President Donald Trump, said on Sunday that he believes the Democrats put together a compelling case but were bludgeoned by the defense team.

Raskin said he thought he “successfully demolished” arguments from Trumps’ lawyers during the trial “but there’s no reasoning with people who basically are acting like members of a religious cult,” the Maryland lawmaker said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.

“Nobody said to us, nobody on any side, that we didn’t make our case. It was absolutely overwhelming and meticulous and comprehensive,” he said. “I don’t think anybody can watch that without coming away saying Donald Trump incited that violent insurrection.”

The air fryer makes the best salmon too. Just spritz the filets with extra virgin olive oil, and season. 360 degrees for 4-5 minutes depending on thickness. Perfect every time.

Why not both? Fries or potatoes in the Air Fryer, meat seared and cooked in cast iron. If I try both in the Air Fryer, it gets crowded in there.

Buddhist robots in Japanese Temples; Catholic robots under development in Poland; Virtual AI based rabbis; Is there a place in religion for AI and robotics?

God and robots: Will AI transform religion?

Artificial intelligence is changing how we interact with everything, from food to healthcare, travel and also religion.

Experts say major global faiths are discussing their relationship with AI, and some are starting to incorporate this technology into their worship. Robot priests can recite prayers, deliver sermons, and even comfort those experiencing a spiritual crisis.

BBC Global Religion reporter Sofia Bettiza has taken a look at whether AI’s relationship with religion is just a gimmick, or whether it can truly transform how people experience faith.

Boris and Natasha are doing everything possible to kill the bill

Manchin And Sinema Cancelling Each Other Out

One of the problems Democrats have in navigating the whims of Manchin and Sinema is that, on many big things, they don’t agree with each other. Manchin told a group of us today that he’s “all for tax reform,” pointing out that he voted against the 2017 Trump tax cuts. Sinema, now famously, is blocking tax hikes on the wealthy and corporations.

Sinema reportedly favors a carbon tax, another potential revenue stream that would also help fill the climate gap. Manchin opposes it.
