More so the DC and NYC media. They absolutely cannot wrap their brains around the reactionary insanity of the GOP now. The Chuck Todd/Cilizza crew will still be marveling at how ‘savvy’ McConnell is right up to the point the Republic begins to collapse.

The newest entry in the sorryantivaxxer.com sweepstakes is a nurse who spread the gospel of antivax by writing tacky poetry bashing liberals and kissing Trump’s ass.

Steve Shurden, 58, Tulsa, OK, RN - Travel Nurse, anti-vaxx poet, dead from COVID.

According to his wife’s social media post (below), Steve passed away from COVID on October 19, 2021. He leaves behind his wife Teresa, and their two daughters. Steve was a registered nurse who worked for Trustaff nurse staffing. Teresa was also a nurse as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. They had recently purchased a new touring RV just before Steve caught COVID. I think they’d planned to travel the country and help newly opened clinics or something. Both Steve and Teresa were/are adamant anti-vaxxers as you’ll see. Steve loves to write politically charged poems and was about to publish a book of his right-wing Trumparian poems. Too bad that didn’t happen ;)

“…Ralph Thurman, a 72-year-old Republican who Frank turned in after seeing him vote twice on Election Day, once for himself and once for his son, who was a registered Democrat.”
..
“…Thurman pleaded guilty to repeat voting. He was sentenced to three years probation and barred from voting for four years”

The vast majority of people are able to make the personal risk/reward calculation that illegal voting entails, and avoid it like the plague.

Actually, that’s the full price. I remember that the original deal was $25k per verified instance of voter fraud, up to $1M total. This was discussed frequently when Lt. Gov. Fetterman laid claim to the money. Lt. Gov. Patrick was banking on tons of people coming forward to profess that they caught Democrats in the act of voter fraud. In the end, all they could find was less than a dozen cases of Republicans committing voter fraud.

As I posted in the last thread—People used to scoff at me when I said that the Republican Party was turning into the Soviet Communist Party.

Compare speeches made by Soviet Communists against those of Republicans and you will notice that the speeches are the same with two exceptions—When Soviet Communists said Marx, Republicans say God and when Soviet Communists say Lenin, Republicans say Reagan.

No doubt in my mind that if they get back in control of Congress they will go after Fauci and I fully expect Republican Attorneys General to indict Fauci for murder.

The oligarchs want to make America an underdeveloped country, to improve their quality of life and lower their taxes at the cost of making society as a whole far worse off.

In a third world country, the ultra-rich, can have an _overall_ better life, by spending money to make up for the lack of government services.

- Instead of paying taxes to hire police and other first responders, they hire private protection.
- They can buy elected officials and bureaucrats, to benefit them, rather than having public taxes
- They can buy their own electricity generators instead of dealing with a fourth class power system, that government’s don’t have money to build up.
- They can build water pumps, have water storage tanks and filtration tanks, rather than paying to have clean, reliable water provided to the community.
- They can send their children to private schools with mask and/or vaccination mandates, instead of going to underfunded public schools. It’ll be cheaper for them.
- They can send out the hired help to do their shopping outside, if they’re worried about catching something. And of course pay to have their hired help vaccinated, of course.
- They can hire a driver to drive them in a crowded city, rather than depend on a good quality public transport system.

Of course, not all of these are exclusive to the ultra-rich. In many countries, some of the above are also true for the merely rich, and even the upper middle classes. And sadly, they’re increasingly true in America.

I really really wish Democrats would stop pretending they’re dealing with a “loyal opposition.” The Republican Party has gone full fascist and they’re not even hiding it. It’s time for Democrats to take off the kid gloves and start telling the plain truth.

Again, one of the main problems with that, cathartic as it’d be, is the same DC press filter as always, where speaking that candidly will either get you totally ignored, or completely mischaracterized and savaged on that mischaracterization.

On top of that, it’s still apparent that a lot of our voter pool still likes paeans toward bipartisanship, and won’t be animated by overt adversarial language toward the GOP like the GOP base is toward us. So we’re kind of still in a damned-if-you-do lurch with that.

That’s because he isn’t. He’s an Independent who runs as a Democrat in primaries, then after he wins the Democratic primary in his state to become the party nominee, renounces that party affiliation to run as an Independent, then, after election, he serves as an Independent who caucuses with the Democrats. Then, whenever he decides to run for president, he runs as a Democrat in the primaries bitching about the Democratic party and, when he fails to win the nomination, reverts to being an Independent gadfly surrounded by a cult of personality, sort of like a leftist LUAP NOR.

Don’t ya think that’s what is really going on? The lackeys are humoring him by making him a Twitter/Netflix/Amazon clone so he won’t throw a tantrum.

At 9 p.m. every night, inmates in the so-called Patriot Wing of the D.C. Correctional Treatment Facility reportedly stand at attention and sing The Star-Spangled Banner. You can even listen, if you want, to an alleged recording of it on the website called The Patriot Freedom Project.

Inmates had also started their own handwritten newsletter and passed it from cell to cell, one detainee told NBC 4.

The “Patriot Wing” houses the most hardcore perpetrators of the January 6 riot, roughly 40 men in all. Source: Vice News

Would they also indict Soros? You betcha!

Or…

Donald Trump’s new ‘social media platform’ isn’t a Twitter rival. It’s an investment scam

The truth behind TRUTH Social is right there in the first paragraph of the announcement, which is not focused on the technology behind the platform, or anything that Trump is bringing to the table. Instead, that paragraph is dedicated to explaining how the project has been given “an initial enterprise value of $875 million” and “a cumulative valuation up to $1.7 billion.” Which is amazing, because what it seems to have is nothing more than a credit line and some highly generic code that was hacked within minutes of the beta address becoming known…it doesn’t matter if the site ever sticks its head above the waste pool again. Because that’s not the point. Donald Trump is potentially walking about with $340 million, even if it fails completely. That’s the point.

There’s a large part of me that wants to believe that truth and sanity will prevail. Most of the time, I feel optimistic that the people in charge see what’s going on, see the reality, and that any time now, we’ll see something happen that validates my faith in humanity.

But then.

But then something inevitably happens. The U.S. Senate is a complete and total floating dumpster fire, and really just needs to be scrapped and rebuilt from the ground up. The President has a great agenda lined up, but is powerless to act on his own. The DOJ is making zero noise about a serious pursuit of the criminals who tried to destroy the very fabric of our democracy for no other reason than to avoid going to jail. Texas, or Georgia, or some other backwards hellhole of a state passes a new law or executive order that guarantees more people die to the plague, or removes rights from people. And I just get dragged back into despair all over again that the bad guys are winning and that I’m going to live the rest of my life staring at a fascist autocracy that I was powerless to prevent.

The conservative outlet was among 35 media organizations that argued Nunes’s case against journalist Ryan Lizza—which was unexpectedly revived last month—should be reheard.

News organizations continued to sound the alarm in this week’s amicus brief. “Journalists rely on a wide and long-standing judicial consensus that providing a reader with a hyperlink to an article does not republish it for purposes of a libel claim,” the brief states. “They also rely on long-settled precedent holding that receiving a prepublication denial from the subject of a critical report does not, on its own, establish actual malice in publishing the report.” The panel’s decision to depart from what has been settled law “could significantly chill future reporting and commentary about public officials and public figures,” “threatens to upend how information is disseminated and sourced,” and could “drastically reduce the flow of information to the public,” they wrote.

How all great powers decline—including the United States

The extent and irreversibility of US decline is ever more obvious as America loses one war after another and its industries slip behind the competition. Richard Lachmann explains why the United States will find it impossible to retain global dominance. He contrasts America’s relatively brief period of hegemony with the Netherlands’ similarly short primacy and Britain’s far longer era of leadership.

Decline in those cases was not inevitable and did not respond to global capitalist cycles. It was the product of the success elites had in grabbing control of resources and governmental powers. In this process, not only are ordinary people harmed, but capitalists become increasingly unable to coordinate their interests as a class. They fail to adopt policies and make the investments necessary to counter economic and geopolitical competitors elsewhere in the world.

Following this model, Lachmann traces the transformation of US politics from an era of elite consensus to its present-day condition of paralysis and plunder, explaining the paradox of an American military with an unprecedented technological edge unable to subdue even the weakest enemies, and the consequences of finance’s cannibalization of the economy.

The iron rule of history is that all empires fall. They fall when they overextend militarily while ignoring domestic concerns.

The US has been in decline since the first OPEC oil embargo in 1973. Ever since then its’ decline has been accelerating. More and more wealth has gone to the wealthy as the middle class has completely collapsed. It’s only a matter of time before the inevitable breakup.

Incredible. One of the most crucial links in the supply chain, has been for years, built on the premise that some workers would provide labor for free.

I worked for a while for TNT, a courier company, and all those delivery guys are “free-lance entrepreneurs” who lease their trucks from TNT, have them painted with company livery, work the schedule assigned to them by their supervisor, and get paid piece work at a rate determined by TNT.

No benefits, no paid time off. If they deliver late, they either get docked or not paid at all.

Hell Capitalism came out better because of the New Deal. That’s what the conservatives don’t get. They see Capitalism as stale. Liberals see it as evolving. Liberal capitalism is more closer to the vision of Smith than the conservatives who were Mercantilist absolute monarchists in Smith’s days.

Adam Smith is as cherry-picked as the Bible. He was against government-sponsored monopolies like the British East India Company. He saw an active role for government to ensure that the markets worked for everyone’s benefit: workers as well as employers, producers and consumers, creditors and borrowers.

So many of them would have been pledging how much they loved George III in 1776 because they love a good cult of personality.

Exactly. He wrote against a lot of the things that those who claim to be his adherents believe about government and economics.

I can’t remember off the top of my head, but was George already starting to lose his mind by the time of the revolution or was that later?

If he was that tracks with Trump support, since his cheese is clearly starting to fall off the cracker.

Later. I think he started having the mental breakdown after the French Revolution. Interesting man tbh. First in his House (Hanover) who spoke English as a primary language. His grandfather and great grandfather- the first Georges were German speakers.

AFAIK, this referral goes to the US Attorney for the DC district. I don’t necessarily think they need to check in with the AG on whether or not to prosecute a case. I’m assuming Garland could take the initiative and tell the US attorney to not proceed, but I really don’t think they need to go to the AG about it themselves. I might be totally wrong about this.

Lawrence et al. were talking about this last night. They decided that Bannon was probably hoping for a conviction with jail time, so he can play the martyr. He’s been pretty much out of the public eye for the last few years, and this would be a way to be noticed again.

I’d like to advise people of something as a legal professional but what’s happening with the Committee is a process. That’s what is happening here. I remember Rick Wilson saying that no contempt of Congress would happen and further I remember a lot of surefire that Pelosi wouldn’t move to impeach Trump. Bannon’s also not gonna win that executive privilege claim either.

159
Charles Johnson  Oct 21, 2021 • 2:23:59pm

No way Bannon would go to prison for Trump. I just don’t see that happening. He’s much more likely to make a deal of some kind if it gets to that point.

Can he still agree to the subpoena and testify or is that option gone? If so, I think he might end up doing that, and then take the 5th.

NEW YORK — The messages, written in Russian and shared on WhatsApp in October 2018, were celebratory.

“How is Washington?” Andrey Kukushkin asked in a message to an associate, Igor Fruman.

“Everything is great!!” Fruman wrote back. “We are taking over the country!!!!” Soon after, Fruman’s business partner, Lev Parnas, provided some evidence: a picture of himself, beaming as he stood between Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.

Not one of those weird right-wing “Christian” “schools”. A public school district is acting like this in the 21st century.

School officials in Texas forced a 9-year-old boy to serve an in-school suspension for a month, deprived him of recess and normal lunch breaks, and banished him from campus to an alternative school — all to pressure the fourth-grader into getting a haircut, a new lawsuit says.

That’s why I always contend that a lot of American conservatism is more reactionary than conservative. Like if they’re still getting mad about long haired boys? It’s dude. The 60’s were years ago. Not everyone wants to look like H.R. Haldeman. I like my hair a little longer especially when it’s colder out.

Can’t wait for the next McAuliffe ad to remind people in Virginia who Glenn Youngkin likes spending time with but then again after seeing his Soros dog whistle and refusal to condemn the Antisemitic crap that Speaker Filler-Corn and Del Helmer have been dealing with leads me to believe he probably enjoyed Breitbart’s articles about “Renegade Jews” and Steve throwing a shit fit about his kids being taught in a Jewish school. He’s made it clear that Antisemitism is cool because it’s what the GOP base wants.

Yeah: I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for anything out of “GOP Leader” McCarthy other than deflective bullshit. Or just plain bullshit.

Not only is Kevin apparently congenitally incapable of even the remotest criticism (still less serious sanctioning) of ANY member of his caucus: but it’s far more likely (IMO) that he’d just DARVO the whole thing and dismiss any accusations against Gaetz as a “political witch hunt” or something.

Maybe just my opinion, but AFAICR, Kevin McCarthy has to be one of the most useless House Leaders I can ever recall….
