The senator may not know this but his Kremlin friends certainly do: In the 1970s, Big Bird was a mighty force against communism.

Name ‘a group of complete idiots’: California school investigating controversial question on history quiz

ROCKLIN, Calif. (KTXL) — A California high school is investigating after a screenshot surfaced of a controversial question that parents said was included in a history quiz.

Whitney High School, located in the Sacramento suburb of Rocklin, released a statement Saturday saying it would investigate the quiz.

The question supposedly asked respondents to identify “a group of complete idiots.” The options shown were the “KKK,” “all of Florida,” “FOX news,” and “Texans.”

Often here I have whined about the lack of ideological exposition from Democratic leaders.

Let me explain “ideological” - a set of ideas that form a worldview by which people can weigh choices and decisions.

I don’t want ranting ideologues.

But we do need leaders who can clearly articulate an ideology for America in the 21st century.

And what this does not mean is just empty praise and pablum.

We need leaders who will argue for why we need to adhere to certain ideas, or throw other ideas to the wayside.

I would love for Biden to be able to give a short (10 minute) speech on why democracy is preferable over a strong-man, on why democracy means helping people to vote, not trying to hinder people from voting.

Also, I’d like some direct language on how destructive and self-centered the ideas spouted by the likes of the Sen. Kennedy and Cong. Gosar will hurt you, the average Americans.

But I won’t hold my breath because I know Biden is a mechanic who works in quiet. He’s so old school that many of the talking heads on media can’t relate to what he’s doing. Nor can they explain it to the Americans who still watch or listen to the old media.

Moses built the bridge over the road to the beach with such low clearance that no buses could get through, only cars, figuring that minorities generally couldn’t afford or didn’t own cars.

Moses was a well known racist who did everything he could to negatively effect black people. That’s the history these anti-CRT people don’t want told. I mean my Canadian husband told me stories about Moses. That’s how well known his racism was.

This is a French song about a small town in Germany. It’s an updated cover of the song written by the French Holocaust survivor Monique Andrée Serf (stage name Barbara) in the 1960’s.

In its day it made a powerful statement. In this age of screaming and shouting, it is interesting to see a quiet and understated delivery of a powerful message.

Pomme “Göttingen”

English translation:

Of course, it’s not the Seine
It’s not the Bois de Vincennes.
But it’s pretty nevertheless
In Göttingen, in Göttingen.

No quays, and no old tunes,
Moaning and dragging on.
But anyhow love blossoms there
In Göttingen, in Göttingen.

They know better than us, I think,
The history of the kings of France
Hermann, Peter, Helga and Hans,
In Göttingen.

And nobody should feel offended,
But the tales of our childhood,
“Once upon a time..”, they start
In Göttingen.

Of course, we have the Seine,
And then - our Bois de Vincennes,
But God, the roses are beautiful
In Göttingen, in Göttingen.

We have our pale mornings,
And the grey soul of Verlaine.
Them, they are melancholy itself
In Göttingen, in Göttingen.

When they don’t have anything to say,
They stay here and smile to us.
But we understand them anyway,
The blond children of Göttingen.

Too bad for those who are stunned
May the others forgive me,
But children are the same,
In Paris or in Göttingen.

May never come back
The time of blood and hatred.
Because there are people I love
In Göttingen, in Göttingen.

When would ring the alarm,
If we had to take up arms again,
My heart would shed a tear
For Göttingen, for Göttingen.

My heart would shed a tear
For Göttingen, for Göttingen.

Göttingen (song)

All too true. The American left has been a mess since WWI and we make the Democrats look like disciplined lockstep troopers with the schisms and infighting. But we keep plugging at it anyway. Despite it’s flaws, the DSA can be useful in helping drag the party back towards the center and maybe even the left eventually. We just have to remember to actually _be_ part of the party not just pretending to be like Bernie.

Maybe someone else here discussed this aspect of the new “University” of Austin but…

University of Austin President Pano Kanelos has said the school is in response to institutions that produce graduates that are “incapable and unwilling to participate in the core activity of democratic governance.” The website for the school said it is focused on “the intrepid pursuit of the truth” and seek to expose students to the “the deepest wisdom of civilization.”

Does that mean the institution is directing itself to those who supported Trump in his efforts to overturn the election? It would seem that these individuals are the ones most in need in learning how to participate in democratic governance, starting with Trump, Meadows, Eastman, Cleta Mitchell, Gosar, et al. down to all who stormed the Capitol.

So this very dark article came out this evening.

It describes a plan to start civil unrest, infiltrate right wing militias into the police forces used to contain it, and round up opponents of Trump.

When reading it, remember that the plan was aspirational rather than a fact. That may be corrected in a second attempt.

…snip…

This is the grisly climax of a report published in mid-October 2020 by the Claremont Institute and Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) called “79 Days to Inauguration,” prepared by “Constitutional scholars, along with experts in election law, foreign affairs, law enforcement, and media … coordinated by a retired military officer experienced in running hundreds of wargames.”

…snip…

Practically, the report is an instruction manual for how Trump partisans at all levels of government—aided by citizen “posses” of Proud Boys and Oath Keepers—could, quite literally, round up opposition activists, kill their leaders, and install Donald Trump for a second term in office.

…snip…

Some of the report is revealing. Some of it is sad. Some of it is darkly funny. For instance, the authors’ recommendation for mass, politically motivated arrests “to remove the players from the picture” sits oddly next to the right’s outraged reaction to the prosecution of Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

…snip…

Earlier this year the Claremont Institute created a Sheriffs Fellowship program. Claremont claims that this program will offer “training of unparalleled depth and excellence in American political thought and institutions.” But then, this is the same group that produced a report hoping that “several sheriffs in conservative counties” would give groups like the Proud Boys actual legal authority.

…snip…

Interesting! The world is going through a lot of pandemic related stress right now. As well as climatic issues. And, of course, all of the stupidity we humans add to the mix.

Those of us in the Continental United States are extremely fortunate to be a massive food producer and exporter. If there are shortages of basic food staples here, it is most likely a supply chain issue rather than a problem with the amount of food nationally produced.

China may not be as well situated.

re: #169 Eclectic Cyborg

The ignorance of Pragers statement is astounding. I mean, I know he’s a moron. But still.

He’s a conservative, therefore he’s a liar.

He was born in 1948. He started political work by supporting Jimmy Carter and running the Brandeis Institute by attacking “secularism” (that was also the first time he had a paid job).

(By the way, the thing I really dislike about Jimmy Carter was bringing his religion into his 1976 campaign, a thing which wasn’t done before except when JFK was fighting off “dual loyalty” accusations.) That opened the door for Paul Weyrich and others to bring in Evangelicals who were racists and not liberals to the Ronald Reagan campaign.

He then got a religious radio programme and wrote his first book. Even though he is Jewish, those are both anti-Semitic.

Yet by any measure, the Democratic Party falls squarely in the middle of left-leaning parties around the world.

The washer is so quiet! 39 dB they claim, my dB meter only goes down to a scale of 60 and I have to get really close to get a -9dB. Our last washer was reasonably quiet for the first year and a half then for the next six years it sounded like the gearbox wanted to explode. Just a guess on the sound level would be 75 dB at 1 meter.

So this very dark article came out this evening.

It describes a plan to start civil unrest, infiltrate right wing militias into the police forces used to contain it, and round up opponents of Trump.

When reading it, remember that the plan was aspirational rather than a fact. That may be corrected in a second attempt.

My first stop in Germany was Göttingen, it was the home of Iris and Claudia, tow German forestry students whom we met (buck nekkid) on the Granite Rapids down in the Grand Canyon in 1987.

Oh, here’s a delightful (NOT) bit of news out of Washington state…

A metallurgist in the US state of Washington has pleaded guilty to fraud after she spent decades faking the results of strength tests on steel that was being used to make Navy submarines.

Prosecutors say Elaine Marie Thomas, 67, gave false positive readings for strength and toughness tests in at least 240 cases between 1985 and 2017.

Authorities did not disclose which vessels were affected.

But there was no indication that any submarine hulls had failed.

Ms Thomas, of Auburn, Washington, was the director of metallurgy at a foundry in Tacoma that supplied steel castings used by Navy contractors to make submarine hulls, the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington said in a statement.

The foundry was acquired by the manufacturer Bradken in 2008, according to the indictment. There was no evidence that the company’s management was aware of the fraud until May 2017. At that time, prosecutors say, a lab employee found out that test cards had been altered and that other discrepancies existed in the records.

A short boring story about electric home appliances.

There was a discussion yesterday about how electric appliances in the home actually created more work for women, such as electric vacuums or automatic washing machines.

In my home, labour is divided (so this isn’t “women’s work” but “who’s better at it” work). Generally, I do the laundry.

Since we were married, we’ve owned four washing machines.

In Oklahoma, we had an ancient Kenmore top loader, which died when the inlet valve failed and we determined repairing the machine was more expensive than buying new.

The second was a front-loading Whirlpool. We moved that with us to Nebraska, but not too long after we moved here it had a failure and died.

Over the course of months, Whirlpool sent out first mechanics, then engineers, to figure out why our under-warranty machine wouldn’t work.

During that time, my neighbour to the north moved to Arizona and sold all their property. Out of that sale, we bought their 1940’s Speed Queen wringer washer so we still had something to wash clothes with (nearest Laundromat is sixty miles away).

Eventually, Whirlpool decided the machine needed to go back to their factory to study, and paid us for it. We replaced it eventually with a rebuilt Frigidaire front-loader and stored the Speed Queen.

Of those, the wringer washer by far requires the most work (not counting using a clothesline over a dryer).

So while appliances might have created more housework, improvements in appliances have reduced the same work.

And in regard to mRNA vaccines specifically, since they seem to focus on this as an excuse for opposing the new technology: The doctors who invented mRNA technology in medicine have been working on refining it since the 1980’s. Yeah, the argument usually comes back to, “VAERS is reporting thousands of deaths and other serious outcomes and nobody is reporting on it!!!” Prominently ignored is the fact that VAERS data is self-reported, that incidents are validated, and that only things which have a statistically significant correlation with administration of the vaccine are taken seriously. Most importantly, they ignore that the whole reason the vaccines come with a warning about myocarditis is BECAUSE those incidents were reported via VAERS.

When my wife reported her sense-of-smell returning, lost decades ago, after she received her second dose of the Moderna vaccine, VAERS folks contacted her to gather further information from her about it before passing on the information to Moderna and others.

The fact could be merely coincidental. It could also suggest there was some sort of virus she harboured for decades which the Moderna vaccine knocked out.

When her sense-of-smell returned, I went hunting up how to report that to Moderna on their Website. They noted that they do not take reports on their vaccine from the public and all reports should be submitted to VAERS.

I think Stephen Colbert may have said this, so I can’t take credit for it, but every 5 year old is a fucking communist.

Everything that you think is yours they claim for themselves.
They want everything, and pay for nothing.
The collective addresses every last one of their needs.

Gosar should be expelled from Congress and prosecuted for making threats against AOC.

Pelosi should step up and do the right thing. Fuck the GOP and their lawlessness. If you are going to run from this fight, stop right now. The GOP are a bunch of criminal bullies, and the way to deal with them is to hit them where it hurts. They commit crimes? Prosecute them. You don’t ignore them and hope they go away. Refusing to indict on the 1/6 insurrection and taking sweet time to prosecute is only giving the GOP time to delay even further and to hope that retaking Congress or the WH will not only end investigations, but end democracy altogether as they’ll pardon all those involved, even the ones who led the insurrection from Trump on down.

And yeah, Garland needs to step up his game here too. DOJ prosecutors are still treating the 1/6 insurrection as a garden variety protest/riot and doling out slaps on the wrist for an armed insurrection to overthrow the government. They’re taking clearing the docket more seriously than the overthrow of the government.

This is wrong, and it will have serious repercussions.

If you think prosecuting Trump will energize Republicans, imagine what it’ll do for Democrats who see how justice is being doled out to the criminally corrupt GOP and Trumpworld.

Expulsion from Congress requires a 2/3 majority to do it. Gosar is safe.

That said, bringing up an expulsion vote might force the Republicans to actually go on record with a vote saying they don’t consider veiled threats sufficient reason to expel a member.

On the other hand, GOP members might dislike him enough that enough go over the line to vote to eject him.

When someone says something like that, it really means that they care “statistically zero” about children.

The number of children permanently separated from their families at the border is also statistically zero…less than zero as far as the border hawks are concerned.

I’m curious what the statistic is on the number of orphaned children.

She’s an avid NYT reader and was exhorting me to read the latest David Brooks editorial in which he (insert massive eyeroll here) patiently explains to the reader what Democrats need to do reconnect to voters after last week’s elections.

I politely but firmly re-iterated my, shall we say, distaste for Mr. Brooks, and while admittedly having not read the piece, stated that his advice probably boiled down to “Democrats need to vote for everything Republicans support.”

I tried explaining that the bigger problem is that the party is beyond saving at this point, and that “moderate” Republicans are a non-factor in turning the party around. Often times, they are utterly fine with the regressive and inhumane policies that makes up their platform; they just don’t to appear as nuts.

Brooks:

“…Democrats are not good at thinking about culture, even though cultural issues drive our politics. You can’t win a culture war by raising the minimum wage. In fact, if politics are going to be all culture war — as Republicans have tried to make them — I suspect Democrats can’t win it at all.
Democrats need a positive moral vision that would start by rejecting the idea that we are locked into incessant conflict along class, cultural, racial and ideological lines. It would reject all the appurtenances of the culture warrior pose — the us/them thinking, exaggerating the malevolence of the other half of the country, relying on crude essentialist stereotypes to categorize yourself and others.
It would instead offer a vision of unity, unity, unity. That unity is based on a recognition of the complex humanity of each person — that each person is in the act of creating a meaningful life. It would reject racism, the ultimate dehumanizing force, but also reject any act that seeks to control the marketplace of ideas or intimidate those with opposing views. It would reject ideas and movements that seek to reduce complex humans to their group identities. It would stand for racial, economic and ideological integration, and against separatism, criticizing, for example, the way conservatives are often shut out from elite cultural institutions.

Democrats will be outvoted if they are seen to be standing with elite culture warriors against mass culture warriors, or imposing the values of metropolitan centers. On the cultural front especially, they have to be seen as champions of the whole nation.”

If they continue using Carlin’s 7 dirty words or racial slurs we disconnect.

And when they call back to complain we remind them every call we take is recorded and we heard the offensive crap they said.

It took ages of Union bargaining to get that for us. Before we were told we were paid to take abuse.

That’s fucked up beyond belief. When I started working for t he FDA, my supervisor/mentor made it explicit that, while we are public servants, we are not public punching bags. So, right before election day, Curtis Sliwa, the GOP candidate for NYC mayor, was hit by a vehicle in NYC. Well, it turns out that Sliwa was running across the street, against the light, and the taxi that hit him had no chance to stop.

That’s why Curtis was so hesitant to talk about the incident after it happened and why we shouldn’t expect any charges against the driver. It was Sliwa who acted recklessly by running out into traffic. He’s lucky he wasn’t killed.

Seems to me the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act, marriage equality, the Fair Credit Act, women’s reproductive rights, &c are all “culture war” issues on which Democrats have been good at thinking about culture.

Here in Conservatopia, we’re up for a second minimum wage increase referendum in the last few years. (This one goes to $15.00 per hour, though it is gradual.) Maryjane will be back on the ballot after conservatives blocked it last time. We passed Medicaid expansion via referendum (though it took a lawsuit to get the governor to implement it after it passed).

Gotta love this passage. Starts off with the implication that somehow Democrats are not addressing racism, and then dresses up the phrase “Dems need stop criticizing us for institutionalizing racism” in a cheap, off-the-rack adjective laden tuxedo from Bloviating R Us.

It would instead offer a vision of unity, unity, unity. That unity is based on a recognition of the complex humanity of each person — that each person is in the act of creating a meaningful life. I think Russian influence managers initially had a very limited understanding of the American right and honestly did not realize how easy it would be to find willing accomplices.
This would reflect the Cold War narrative that right wingers and racists were fanatically supportive of US government policy. I remember talking to a Polish air force officer, an actual Communist, who was surprised to hear that the Ku Klux Klan and great swatches of President Reagan’s own party were often hostile to the federal government. He had thought they were something like the Nazi SA, a gang of thugs oriented toward supporting the regime.

And yet they’re going to punish the people that voted for it. (By the way, BY DEFINITION, that makes it not bipartisan. So they can shut the fuck up about passing bipartisan legislation, because there is no such thing anymore.)

In the Senate, it was definitely bipartisan. Even Mitch McConnell voted for it. So the question is: is McCarthy doing McConnell’s bidding or just marching in lockstep with Trump?

We were happy T-Mobile users but we switched to Mint Mobile last year. They use T-Mobile’s 4G network. Getting the phones online with the new SIMs was a little shaky, but the service has been rock solid. Literally saving $60-$70 a month on the cellular bill.

Doesn’t hurt that Ryan Reynolds, all-around Canadian nice guy, is a co-owner of Mint Mobile…

Mrs. Fish would use a can of chicken soup, a bag of frozen vegetables, and a can of crescent roll dough to make miniature chicken pot pies. That was an excellent budget meal when I was still fairly poor. We would also do the “enhanced ramen”, and similar with macaroni and cheese (using deli meat or hot dogs, maybe frozen vegetables).

I recall eating Cup O Noodles quite a bit in my college years at times when I only had access to hot water. Also very popular if you had access to a fridge (to store milk and butter/margarine), stove and some pots and pans was generic mac and cheese mix since you could get those five for a buck at the local Giant Eagle.

We had a fantastic cafeteria at my university, so there were a LOT of students that would eat on-campus most or all of the time. The flip side of that is that our campus was in bumfuck middle of nowhere; the nearby town had one small sit-down restaurant that was family owned and operated since the early 1960’s, but otherwise, you were driving 20+ minutes for any kind of food. I think there was a gas station on the far side of town, with the usual assortment of stuff, but the town didn’t even have its own grocery store.

So for giggles I had the Verizon salescrirter run a Speedtest. He pulled 70 Mbps. I then ran a Speedtest on my T-Mobile phone. With their 5G, I got close to 140 MBps. As I left, I said so much for Verizon’s superior network.

We have one client who likes Vienna sausages with Ramen or Cup O Noodles. Haven’t tried that but it might work. Canned chopped ham ($1 for 4 ounces) definitely does. For hungry people who have homes (a larger group than the actual homeless), the frozen mixed vegetables are an excellent choice for all kinds of things. This is why courts have shied away from “religious sincerity arguments.”

All these questions are crap anyway, since Mr. Ramirez is only asking for a prayer with human contact, not a suspension of his sentence.

If the court can decide what is sincere religious belief, then the court can rule against any minority religious belief as “not sincere.”

Ofttimes justices will ask questions which are intentionally antagonistic to see what the thinking of the respondents are, but I don’t trust these guys as far as I can throw ‘em.

I’m careful about salt intake. Paying real attention made an amazing, and pretty easy, difference on my blood pressure. Noodles aren’t too bad in that respect. Microwave popcorn and especially cheese crackers definitely are but we do not include those in the pantry. Boxed crackers (which we do have) are bad enough but nobody wants the unsalted types. Excessive salt intake is a problem for the homeless and poor but less of a priority than having food in the first place. It is not a big problem for people who live on the street in hot weather. Most of the time though, this is why it is a bad idea, not to mention excessively expensive, to buy fast food for the homeless. We see this a lot.

Yeah Sure WhatEVs  Nov 9, 2021 • 9:41:32am

I got this from SorryAntiVaxxer. I mean, holy shit.

By Karen Gallardo

I’m a respiratory therapist. With the highly contagious Delta variant, the trajectory of the patient, when they’re vaccinated, most likely ends after STAGE 1.

Get vaccinated. If you choose not to here’s what to expect:

STAGE 1. You’ve had debilitating symptoms for a few days, but now it’s so hard to breath you come to the emergency room. Your oxygen saturation levels tell us you need a supplemental flow of 1 to 4 liters of 02 per minute. We start you on antivirals, steroids, anticoagulants or monoclonal antibodies. You’re run down for several days, but if we can wean you off 02 you get discharged. You’ll survive

STAGE 2. It becomes ever harder for you to breathe. “Like drowning” patients describe. Your 02 requirements increase from 4 liters to 15 liters to 40 liters per minute. Sitting up or going to the bathroom is impossible because of your need for 02. You are transferred to intensive care.

STAGE 3. You are exhausted from hyperventilating to supply your body with air. We put you on “positive pressure” ventilation, a big bulky mask velcro’d tightly to your face so the machine can pop open your lungs.

STAGE 4. You are severely fatigued from trying to breathe. A blood sample tells us your 02 levels are critically low. We prepare to intubate you. We suggest you call your loved ones if you are able and if there’s time. It may be the last time they hear your voice.
We connect you to a ventilator. You are sedated and paralyzed, fed through a tube, hooked to a Foley catheter and a rectal tube. We turn your limp body regularly so you don’t develop bed sores. We bathe you. We flip you on your stomach to allow for better oxygenation. We will try experimental therapeutics.

STAGE 5. Some survive stage 4. Unfortunately you have not improved after several days on the ventilator. Your infested lungs need assistance and time to heal, something that an ECMO machine, which bypasses your lungs and oxygenates your blood can do. But alas, our community hospital doesn’t have one. If you are stable enough you will get transferred to another hospital for that.

STAGE 6. The pressure on your lungs is so high that air can leak into your chest cavity. We insert tubes to clear it out. Your kidneys fail to filter the byproducts of the drugs we give you. Despite diuretics, your entire body swells from fluid retention. You require dialysis to help with renal function. You are susceptible to infections. a chest x-ray shows fluid in your lungs. A blood clot may show up. We can’t prevent these at this point. We can only treat them. If your blood pressure drops, we will administer vasopressors to bring it up, but your heart may stop anyway. After several rounds of CPR we get a pulse. but soon, your family will have to make a tough decision.

STAGE 7. After several meetings your family decides to withdraw care. We extubate you, turn off the breathing machinery. We set up a final face-time call with your oved ones. As we work we hear crying and loving good-byes. We cry too, and we hold your hand until your last natural breath.

You just know that if Trump was still President, they would be all in favor of vaccine mandates, and in fact, would be even less willing to tolerate exemptions than we are. Literally everything they disagree with comes down to, “We hate Democrats.” It is disappointing to me that an entire political faction in this country has, as its only purpose, to treat the rest of their own country like the enemy.

Don’t forget that at a recent rally, tfg told the attendees to get vaccinated and they booed him. My mom was a good cook but she was too busy working to keep a roof over our heads. I grew up on Campbell’s soup and Chef Boyardee spaghetti.

When she had time to cook properly, it was terrific, but that was usually only on Sundays.

I was one of nine children (no more than 7 at one time though, since I was grown and out of the house when the last 2 were born). I developed a real taste for Chef Boyardee products. My mother, who was a genius with low cost food, preferred the ravioli over spaghetti. I still like it, especially since I can cook it in the oven with extra cheese and sausage. We (the mob of kids) did not like beefaroni at all and spaghetti-os were well down on the preference list. I think I was an adult before I realized that Chef Boyardee products came in the little 15 oz. cans as well as the big 28 oz. ones we always had.

Lovato, who uses they/them pronouns, announced last week that they had become an “ambassador” for streaming video site Gaia. While Gaia’s video collections also include yoga videos, Lovato made clear that their focus was on the site’s conspiratorial content.

In part because being told by Trump and stooges to get vaccinated at this point and accepting that advice means they have to face the reality that they had been played after throwing their whole soul into supporting someone telling them that being greedy, biased, and ignorant was good. That is a huge ego hit to take and many simply would rather delude themselves and simply go further down the rabbit hole.

Our brother praised DeSantis Saturday for his early comprehensive actions in getting the elderly (was it just the wealthy elderly?) vaccinated. He tried to persuade us that DeSantis has been doing the right thing when it came to vaccinations. The question then is why did DeSantis hire an anti-Covid-vaxxer as surgeon general? Is it because he has observed the base has become hostile to vaccines and so he wants to pretend that he shares this hostility? High School Staff Get Slap on Wrist for ‘Man Pageant’ Featuring Student Lap Dances

thedailybeast.com

“poor professional judgement” my F’n Ass!

The mayor of Hazard, Kentucky, has been handed a written reprimand after he was filmed smiling during a high school homecoming event featuring male students in lingerie giving teachers lap dances. Mayor Donald “Happy” Mobelini, who pulls double-duty as the principal of Hazard High School, exhibited “poor professional judgment in that you allowed a student led skit to reach an inappropriate level,” according to the Oct. 27 rebuke. Two other school employees, Larry Thacker and Joshua Hurt, received identical reprimands a day after the so-called “man pageant” was hosted. The event also had female students pretending to serve beer while wearing Hooters t-shirts.

This is why Kentucky will send Ayn Rand Paul back to the Senate until ol Ayn Rand is put in the GOP Freedom Box®

As soon as my kids were old enough to find their way around the kitchen, I told them that I would teach them how to make their favorite food. So each one chose their favorite: spaghetti & meatballs, mac & cheese, lasagna, frozen pizza (they were too intimidated to make a whole pizza from scratch), burgers, hotdogs, etc. My middle daughter loved fried chicken but she was so grossed out by touching a raw chicken. She didn’t learn how to cook until she got married. My sons all loved to cook.

Well to be fair, leaving aside the issue of whether or not Aaron Rodgers is an idiot*, vaccine allergy IS a real thing (and presumably can be tested for, one hopes) - and is should be one of the few genuinely acceptable excuses for “vaccine hesitancy”. Vaccine allergies gems to be from the way the vaccine is propagated —often egg or with adjuvants that can be problematic — that is much less likely in the mRNA vaccines that are the Pfizer / Moderna versions. Mechanisms are very important and most people just hear, VACCINE ALLERGY and think that means something because it’s a vaccine.

The Vaccine Scientist Spreading Vaccine Misinformation

Robert Malone—a medical doctor and an infectious-disease researcher—recently suggested that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines might actually make COVID-19 infections worse. He chuckled as he imagined Anthony Fauci announcing that the vaccination campaign was all a big mistake (“Oh darn, I was wrong!”) and would need to be abandoned. When he floated that nightmare scenario during a recent podcast interview with Steve Bannon, both men seemed almost delighted at the prospect of public-health officials and pharmaceutical companies getting their comeuppance. “This is a catastrophe,” Bannon declared, beaming at his guest. “You’re hearing it from an individual who invented the mRNA [vaccine] and has dedicated his life to vaccines. He’s the opposite of an anti-vaxxer.”

Before going any further, let’s be clear that the back-and-forth between Bannon and Malone was premised on misinformation. The vaccines have repeatedly been shown to help prevent symptomatic coronavirus infections and reduce their severity. Malone was riffing on a botched sentence in a USA Today article, one that was later deleted but not before being screenshotted and widely shared.
