WATCH LIVE: Right Wing Killer Kyle Rittenhouse Testifies

Law • Views: 20,017

YouTube

Kyle Rittenhouse took the stand Wednesday to testify in the trial that charges him with killing two men and wounding a third during a protest last year in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Rittenhouse went to Kenosha in August 2020 during the protests that followed the police shooting of Jacob Blake with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle and a medical kit in what he has said was an effort to safeguard property damaged during the demonstrations.

Rittenhouse has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, claiming self-defense. His appearance follows the prosecution resting their case after five and a half days of testimony that tried to portray Rittenhouse as the aggressor on the night of the shootings.

Rittenhouse’s decision to testify came despite several legal experts saying that an underwhelming prosecution case had made it less likely he would need to do so. Rittenhouse, now 18, could get life in prison if convicted of the most serious charges against him.

Corrupt cops claimed they could do nothing, and could not trace the caller. Reuters called the number and talked to the terrorist, and others who have done the same thing, who revealed the sources of the disinformation that made them so confused and angry. One of them started threatening Reuters with death. Vermont state police still didn’t care.

Performative bullshit from killer Rittenhouse, while the judge puts the thumbs on the scales of justice to favor Rittenhouse at nearly every turn.

Why?

Because white guy killed two protesters. That’s why. The people he killed are victims, no matter what the judge said.

Never mind how and why he entered the state from an entirely different state, or that he wasn’t allowed to carry the gun he used to kill the two victims.

And I’m waiting for Rittenhouse to screw up and allow prosecutors to bring in the prior acts.

The worst of us continue to get away with everything, because we have systems precisely engineered to allow them to do so and precisely engineered to be as resistant to change for the better as possible.

This became a trial on the victims’ humanity per usual, and the victims are losing because white fragility is all powerful, and needs coddling at all times.

I had this amusing dream last night. I was in a work meeting in the conference room and one of my coworkers at the table happened to be Tucker Carlson.

He was telling our boss about something, absolutely adamant that he was right. I then pulled up some info on my iPad clearly proving he was wrong and showed it to him. He then threw a fit and stomped out of the meeting.

Then if the the judge is competent, he’ll correct the record, perhaps by questioning the witness himself, in an attempt to forestall appeal.

Ah, yes. The “guest speaker” circuit is the most underrated vector for right wing bullshit in the country. It is where they disseminate ideas and claims that are too crazy even for Farcebook. When a totally bizarre conspiracy claim seems to spring up out of thin air almost everywhere at once, it’s a good bet that it flowed through the circuit or, more likely, that the circuit has re-discovered and is recycling an old claim. An example would be the claim that twice as many girls are born every year and the gummint is covering it up. This was circulating among fundies before the ‘net was invented. Jan Brunvand, the famous urban legends researcher, postulated that specific legends have an individual, characteristic, frequency of recurrence, ranging from months to many years. The same appears to be true of religious conspiracy theories.

Recent SCOTUS history leaves me unable to consider that a judge may not like beer. The phenomenon of a cop having a beer after a shift is rather common in Wisconsin. These two ideas may have some coincidence preceding this trial.

These right wing cretins aren’t “fleecing the marks.” That would entail ripping them off in some way. They aren’t ripping them off.

Right wing audience knows what they are paying for. They are paying good money to hear validation of their white supremacist viewpoint. They specifically want to hear how they are the righteous and chosen and everyone else in the world is wrong and headed to Hell.

They have no firm ideological standing on anything except a vague concept of populist “freedom” which in their ideology means the ability to structurally discriminate and eliminate others based on racial and ethnic standards. That is all they care about. Any other policy is variable in order to forward their agenda.

Saw the complete bill for my brain surgery today.

It may give me a heart attack.

Seriously, the only people who are against universal healthcare at this point are independently wealthy or not very bright.

We’re a global embarrassment.

The chemo bill for my cancer treatment alone was $360,000 or thereabouts. I forget actual number, but I think the whole shebang (surgery, chemo, hospital, etc.) was $1.2 million.

If I did not have insurance, I would not be writing this today. I still think about all the people who die every year in the US in this situation who aren’t as lucky as me. Ron Paul’s campaign manager always sticks in my head; dude died after devoting his life to a guy who was against the sort of public healthcare that might have saved his life..

Thomas Binger, the lead prosecutor, began his cross-examination of Kyle Rittenhouse on Wednesday with a series of questions on whether he meant to kill each of the three men he shot in Kenosha, Wis., two of whom died.

Here is a transcript of their opening exchange.

Binger: Everybody that you shot at that night, you intended to kill, correct?

Rittenhouse: I didn’t intend to kill them. I intended to stop the people who were attacking me.

Binger: By killing them?

Rittenhouse: I did what I had to do to stop the person who was attacking me.

Binger: By killing them?

Rittenhouse: Two of them passed away, but I stopped the threat from attacking me.

Binger: By using deadly force?

Rittenhouse: I used deadly force.

Binger: That you knew was going to kill?

Rittenhouse: I didn’t know if I was going to kill them, but I used deadly force to stop the threat that was attacking me.

Binger: You intentionally used deadly force against Joseph Rosenbaum, correct?

Rittenhouse: Yes.

Binger: You intentionally use deadly force against the man who came and tried to kick you in the face, correct?

Rittenhouse: Yes.

Binger: You intentionally use deadly force against Anthony Huber, correct?

Rittenhouse: Yes.

Binger: You intentionally use deadly force against Gaige Grosskreutz, correct?

Rittenhouse: Yes.

Binger: With regard to Joseph Rosenbaum, you fired four shots at him, correct?

Rittenhouse: Yes.

Binger: You intended to kill him, correct?

Rittenhouse: I didn’t intend to kill. I intended to stop the person who was attacking me and trying to steal my gun.

the jury’s gonna see that too. so to answer the smart-ass attorney on msnbc who can’t understand why the prosecutor keeps asking some of these questions from different angles, it’s because it is reinforcing the jury’s sense that even supposedly simple questions often are getting met with Rittenhouse having to grind slowly through his options.

In general, it is a good idea to do this anyway. However, the prosecution does not have any way to call their own witnesses now, although perhaps there is some consideration for new evidence introduced during the course of questioning; but judges usually frown on those sorts of shenanigans, as that leads to mistrials.

…and they still can’t find women who’ll date them.

Fun thing about tithing: The Bible actually does not specifically say you need to give money to the church. The tithe can in theory also be provided as possessions, resources, investment of time, etc.

But that would cause problems with the Pulpit Pimp gravy train so it’s usually not brought attention to.

A bit of BG: “The Last Post” is basically used in the British Commonwealth (UK, Canada, Australia, etc.) as “Taps” is in the United States. Traditionally played on a bugle, it was originally played at the end of each day at a military camp after all the sentry posts had been inspected (hence the name of the song).

It has since become associated with honoring war fallen and so is customarily played at ceremonies on November 11, known in the commonwealth (and elsewhere) and Rememberance Day.

So a Governor can just tell his State Department to start breaking the law and it’s totally cool?

Doesn’t matter about blatant discrepancies in his defense. With an all White male jury (minus one White woman and one Black man) and a very sympathetic Judge, it’s obvious how this will all shake out. Zimmerman Point 2.

He is so getting off, a mistrial would be the worst thing that could happen for the defense. It would give the prosecution a chance to put together a competent case.

re: #210 mmmirele

What I find to be interesting is how completely political animals like Charlie Kirk are in church pulpits on Sundays. This didn’t really happen before Trump. But Kirk is hitting these churches and I really want to know what his speaking fee is.

mm, having right wing speakers in church pulpits goes back to Pruneface Reagan’s Presidential challenge in 1976. Paul Weyrich and his acolytes were deployed to right wing churches to spread the gospel of Pruneface. Oh I remember the time that Richard Vigurie was in the pulpit of my insane Aunt’s Foursquare church and in front of a lily white crowd he uttered the N word several times and the assholes cheered. Oh and Lou Sheldon who ran the Moron Majority in Southern California also used the N word several times.

Those fine Xtians cheered…

They’re probably using the law firm as a mailing address. No way are they going to find the land in that same area; they’ll probably have to go way out on the outskirts of town if they ever do build a campus.

A mistrial “with prejudice” means it can’t be retried; double jeopardy attaches.
