Sorry for the immediate OT, but the Cyborg clan is expanding!

Meet Austin Louis Gordon:

He’s the second for my brother and sister-in-law and he’s the first boy of his generation so our family name will go on (concern of this had been a particular pain point of mine since my wife and I have struggled with infertility and my brother wasn’t sure he’d have another after my niece was born).

Also, my middle name is Gordon as well after my grandfather, so I have a special connection my new nephew. ❤️

The last thread we were still chewing on the Rittenhouse trial, and I found a new take with one of Stonekettle’s retweets:

Belafon  Nov 13, 2021 • 11:25:05am
Digitally encoded information has been transmitted wirelessly using nuclear radiation, thanks to engineers at the U.K.’s Lancaster University and Slovenia’s Jožef Stefan Institute. The researchers transmitted the data using fast neutrons spontaneously emitted from the radioactive isotope californium-252. A detector measured the emissions, which were recorded on a laptop; the researchers serially encoded data including a word, the alphabet, and a blindly-chosen random number into the modulation of the neutron field, and decoded the output on a laptop that retrieved the encoded information. Lancaster’s Malcolm Joyce said, “We demonstrate the potential of fast neutron radiation as a medium for wireless communications for applications where conventional electromagnetic transmission is either not feasible or is inherently limited.”

“We demonstrate the potential of fast neutron radiation as a medium for wireless communications for applications where conventional electromagnetic transmission is either not feasible or is inherently limited.”

This would be a Big Deal if it could be practically used through water. Especially if it can be made directional. Unlike sound, it wouldn’t care about thermoclines either, which is a huge deal underseas (you could be super-close to another body and not hear it at all because the sound is bouncing off of underwater “rivers”).

Had noticed Johnny McEntee on the list of “wants” for the Jan. 6 committee, and wondered about him. This excerpt from Jonathon Karl’s book (and I have not been a fan of Karl’s, frankly) gives me chills to my soul:

Was also reading Charlie Pierce about TFG claiming he was sending his “envoy ambassador” Richard Grenell to the Serbia/Kosovo border, and followed some links. More chills. TFG was tearing up so much that I had not realized he was forcing things to go Serbia’s way while he was in power. The “envoy” thing is not funny at all.
