And the Republicans want permit less concealed carry in Pennsylvania. Governor Wolf will veto it but if we had a Republican Governor it would be passed.

Supporters said getting concealed carry permits under current law can be subject to the whims of county sheriffs and that concealed carry permit holders can forget when their licenses expire and therefore unknowingly violate the law

Can’t remember to obey the law but having a 357 strapped is a grand idea.

Pennsylvania House passes bill to allow permitless concealed gun carry

“…An incendiary Facebook post by U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins in which the Lafayette Republican threatened to shoot a rumored group of openly-armed protesters drew a rare rebuke from a colleague in the state’s congressional delegation, with U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond saying his “dumb and reckless Facebook post requires serious condemnation.”

In the post Tuesday evening — which was accompanied by a photo of openly-armed Black protesters at a Black Lives Matter demonstration in Louisville — Higgins, a Lafayette Republican, vowed that anyone arriving in Louisiana “aggressively natured and armed” would have a “one way ticket” and that he’d personally “drop 10 of you.”

“…Facebook removed the post, along with a second one that Higgins wrote shortly after the first was taken down in which he declared that “America is being manipulated into a new era of government control” and “I’ll advise you when it’s time to gear up, mount up and roll out.” A company spokesperson said both posts were “removed for violating our policies against inciting violence.”

Something good:

They bought houses in Italy for 1 euro — and are using them to give back to the community

washingtonpost.com

The 1-euro housing program was first proposed over a decade ago by TV personality Vittorio Sgarbi. Then the mayor of Salemi in southern Sicily, Sgarbi proposed the idea as a way to save the town’s crumbling old quarter. The idea has since caught on in 34 municipalities across Italy.
But it was only in the past few years that it captured the global imagination when articles about towns launching similar programs on the island went viral. Many towns featured, like Mussomeli, received thousands of inquiry emails and started receiving dozens of prospective buyers every day.

A number of individual stories about people taking these properties on and the way it has revitalized the towns. Loved it. Wish I was 40 years younger!

He talks about it in depth in countrylife.co.uk.

Kosher poultry is at least 50% more expensive than traif; because the processing is more hands-on detailed, it’s harder to mass produce.

Yes, it does all those things.

But one can set compression levels, which is why one can have say a 1080i source reduced in size from many gigabytes to less than a gigabyte and still be 1080i.

There was a local dive bar that grilled the best burgers in the county. Everyone wondered what they did to make them so tasty. It was the crusty brown finish on those thin patties that made them.

Kosher poultry is at least 50% more expensive than traif; because the processing is more hands-on detailed, it’s harder to mass produce.

TX conviction was state violation. My impression is that Texas has the strictest voter suppression laws in the nation; other states would probably have not even charged her.

Sheila O’Flaherty, of Jackson, has protested against every execution in Mississippi since 1983. “Back then it used to be at midnight.”

“I wish we’d wake up and quit doing it (executions),” she said. “It’s violent.”

13 states have banned the death penalty since 1983; 27 retain the death penalty but 3 of these have a moratorium. Virginia is the only state that was part of the Confederacy that outlawed capital punishment; but the GOP is probably eager to reinstate it.

re: #155 Shiplord Kirel: Fan of USPS, Goodyear, and Oreo

The Lubbock airport; excuse me, Preston Smith International; has fantastic runways, far beyond its actual requirements. It was an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle, for example. If the Golden Goose missed White Sands and couldn’t make Carswell at Fort Worth, it would land at Preston Smith.

Urban legend has it that these great runways originated with an incident in the 60s. The airport at that stage was still basically the recycled Lubbock Army Airfield of World War II, with the old runways patched and extended willy-nilly as funding permitted. There were many complaints about rough pavement and potholes. The FAA had a DC-3 that was specially instrumented to check runway roughness, with accelerometers on the landing gear and such. It flew to Lubbock to investigate. It hit a pothole and crashed. Nobody was hurt but the plane was a write-off. The FAA inspectors marched straight to the manager’s office and said, “YOU FAILED!”
The city was sorely embarrassed and spared no expense on the runways when they built the new airport shortly afterward. The design was based on a Chamber of Commerce projection that Lubbock’s population would be 600,000 within 50 years, with an even larger increase in air traffic. Population is actually about 40% of that and air traffic declined with deregulation, which is why the airport terminal has sort of a 70s ghost town vibe to it.

You’re right — it wouldn’t have to be. But in this case, I am certain that’s what the judge would do, especially since that is the request the defense attorneys submitted. The judge is hoping for an outright acquittal so he wouldn’t have to dirty his hands making this decision.
