Colbert’s Q Files: Q Faithful Are Still Waiting for JFK in Dallas

Politics • Views: 16,859

YouTube

Stephen checks in on followers of the QAnon conspiracy, many of whom are camped out in Dallas awaiting the return of JFK (or JFK Jr., we’re not really sure). One notable Q fan who isn’t in Dallas is Jacob Chansley, also known as the QAnon Shaman, who was sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. #Colbert #Comedy #Monologue

Former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows told Steve Bannon that he would like to see Donald Trump become Speaker of the House.

Said Meadows: “You talk about melting down… people would go crazy!”

Playbook: “Comments like Meadows’ are starting to reveal a growing frustration with McCarthy in Trump’s orbit.”

Because governing is one big joke

The fact that this is what their priorities are, while we are rebuilding America’s infrastructure and trying to raise wages, offer childcare & education, and otherwise improve the quality of life for all Americans tells you everything you need to know.

And people still vote for them…

So maybe we push this narrative and ask every single R, trump or McCarthy for speaker?

But my question is, what’s so bad about being up on a high horse while, let’s face it, much of the party is down in the dirt, rolling around like pigs in Trump’s slop?”
[SE] Cupp asked. “This is the high horse to be on, the one defending democracy, not the one trying to break it.”

Cupp then flipped Hannity’s attack back on him.

“If the point Hannity is trying to make is that Cheney thinks she’s better than the rest of them then, duh, of course she is. She’s one of the few doing what’s right for the country, even if it means sacrificing her position, her paycheck and her party loyalty.”

The GOP has an advantage over the Democrats in campaign messaging in that they can expertly craft messages to appeal to voters’ emotions without any regard for the truth. For Republicans, its all about just pushing the right buttons, because if they regain power all they are going to do is cut taxes for billionaires anyway.

Ha! Hadn’t realized that the Ibis was considered a pest in Australia. It’s amazing what I learn here on LGF!

There are four main ways in which Australian White Ibises are considered to be pests:

1. When they forage in flocks in the vicinity of air fields, ibises pose a theat to aeroplanes, as their large size means that they are able to break windshields, or damage engines.
2. Ibises roost communally and a moderate-sized colony produces a lot of droppings. If they roost in a public area of a city, such as Darling Harbour in Sydney, their droppings can make the area unusable, and might be a problem for human health (though this has not been demonstrated).
3. Ibises that become accustomed to people sometimes feed in garbage bins and steal food from picnic areas. While they are quite harmless, some people find their large size, and particularly their beak, intimidating.
4. Ibis droppings can modify the environment so that it can no longer sustain particular plants. This means they can be a problem in botanical gardens and some reserves. For example, in Fairfield Local Government Area, Sydney, Australian White Ibises may be destroying the roosting habitat for a threatened population of the Grey-headed Flying Fox (Pteropus poliocephalus ).

Pritzker signs law banning dark money, out-of-state contributions in judicial campaigns
nprillinois.org

Campaign contributions from out-of-staters and so-called dark money groups will be banned in Illinois judicial campaigns beginning in January under legislation Gov. JB Pritzker signed into law Monday.

Several states have enacted laws forcing disclosure of funders to nonprofits — including social welfare groups [501(c)4s], labor unions [501(c)5s] and industry trade groups [501(c)6s], 501(c)4s, 5s and 6’s — whose political spending is referred to as “dark money,” since those groups aren’t required to make their donors public.

But Illinois’ new law takes a different tact, banning judicial candidates from taking campaign contributions from any entity that doesn’t disclose its funders.

Big deal.

Can the GOP override the Veto?

In Wisconsin, a quorum is a majority of the current members in each house.

A veto override requires 2/3 of both houses.

The current make-up:

House: 99 seats
Democrats: 38
Republicans: 61

Senate: 33 seats
Democrats: 12
Republicans: 21

Assuming the vote is party-line, they do not have 2/3 of either house.

re: #75 Eclectic Cyborg

Can the GOP override the Veto?

They haven’t had a very good track record for doing that.

It has been at least 36 years since the state Legislature has been successful in overriding a veto from the governor — including the latest failed attempt earlier this week — but it’s unlikely lawmakers will stop trying to undo executive actions any time soon.

Democrats are trying to change the SALT deduction that Trump did to screw over California and New York but not look like they’re helping the rich. The current proposal in the BBB plan would change it to $80K from the $10K, but there is a different proposal that might work better:

Sanders and a fellow Democrat, Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, have their own proposal—a much more fair one. They’d keep the cap at $10,000, but exempt people under a certain income threshold—Sanders has proposed $400,000 since that’s the level President Joe Biden set in his pledge to not raise taxes on any but the rich. In some of the nation’s most expensive cities, $400,000 is a lot of money, but it’s not super-rich.

Many Senate Democrats prefer the Sanders-Menendez approach. “I’m not worried about the perception that we’re doing too much for wealthy people. I’m worried that we may do too much for wealthy people. It’s the reality that troubles me,” said Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. “I’m not here to help those at the top.”

“Over the past few decades there have been various efforts to replace the Reagan Paradigm: the national-greatness conservatism of John McCain; the compassionate conservatism of George W. Bush; the Reformicon conservatism of the D.C. think tanks in the 21st century.”

“But the Trumpian onslaught succeeded where these movements have so far fizzled because Trump understood better than they did the coalescence of the new American cultural/corporate elite and the potency of populist anger against it. Thus the display of Ivy League populism I witnessed in Orlando might well represent the alarming future of the American right: the fusing of the culture war and the class war into one epic Marxist Götterdämmerung.”

every form of “conservatism with a human face” that he spent his professional life promoting has fizzled because, as he finally understands it, American conservatives don’t want any human face on their conservatism. and he’s shocked that he’s figured it out.

Here’s the thing: If Rittenhouse is convicted, the judge has basically guaranteed that the appeals will be denied the whole way up. There’s no way anyone can say he didn’t give them every chance to win.

What’s great about that video of Chansley’s lawyer where he says “my opinion doesn’t mean shit” is that in the background behind him is a political sign with lettering from the 1950s and 1960s and the lawyer dresses, acts, and talks like a lawyer would as flashbulbs explode around him. It’s great theater, except for the Lexus in the background.

So what’s going on with the Rittenhouse exoneration? The jury intimidation must be working because they’re afraid to find the fucker guilty…
“Well, he was scared…it was a BLM protest after all…”
“Yeah, but he shot white people…”
“Oh, that does make it more complicated.”

Or possibly they’re in the jury room doing their jobs. We have reasons to think the judge is biased — not the jury.

See also, geese, Canadian.

Those things are a menace when in flocks. They can ruin your day - or your flight (see Capt. Sully’s Flight 1549).

Just back from raking leaves. ‘Tis the season. Only cleaned up 450 gallons of leaves this time, though.

Yup, the DC Region also has the pleasure of large numbers of Canada Geese. At one place I used to work at, the business park hired a local company to chase off the geese from their manicured landscaping. The company was called “The Geese Police”, motto “When you want to get the flock out”.

I watched them in action one day. A station wagon with the company name pulled up. A driver went out back and let out a… Border Collie.

With a lot of energy, the Border Collie circled around to the side in order to get the best approach to herd the geese. The geese took one look at the Border Collie and flew off to the neighboring business park.

The Border Collie looked so disappointed.

Quite this.
One would think that if they really were going to let Rittenhouse walk, they would have done it right away.

1) the longer the better in this case
2) the defense is nervous. That’s why they keep pushing for mistrial motions that even Judge Bias can’t go along with.

Equal justice for all is a completely foreign concept for Republicans. For them, laws exist to reward Republicans and punish Democrats. It really is that simple and stupid.

Pope Benedict was a member of the Hitler Youth.

Conservative Catholic Republicans were very understanding, in his case, of the “he was a kid who didn’t have a choice” argument.

Unfortunately, the latest Quinnepiac poll has Biden at 36% approval. Still a long way to go before the midterms, and both inflation and covid should be much better in a year. But realistically, if the midterms were held today, it would be a massive GOP wave. This country is f*cked.

I never read his tripe; I’ve pleaded with the Philadelphia Inquirer to drop running his screeds (propaganda isn’t opinion and doesn’t belong in a reputable news source). Happily there is always at least one letter to the editor debunking his garbage and I have never seen a letter agreeing with him.
