Lyrics:
You don’t fit in, but this is right where you belong
Like a massive solo in the middle of a love song
Everyone in earshot immediately starts to cry
And you act as if you don’t know why

Well I don’t think you realise your power
I don’t think you realise your power

To reduce me to a single salty tear
Running down my face I cannot stand it when you’re near
’Cos everybody’s looking at you, nobody can see me cry
Nobody can see me cry :’(

I think I liked it better when you were underground
Baby you’re magnetic but that’s hard to be around
’Cos everybody in here is just desperate to catch your eye
And you act as if you don’t know why

But I don’t think you realise your power
I don’t think you realise your power

To reduce me to a single salty tear
Running down my face I cannot stand it when you’re near
’Cos everybody’s looking at you, nobody can see me cry
Nobody can see me cry :’(
Nobody can see me cry :’(
Nobody can see me cry :’(

I don’t think you realise your power
I don’t think you realise your power

To reduce me to a single salty tear
Running down my face I cannot stand it when you’re near
’Cos everybody’s looking at you, nobody can see me cry
:’(

So the QAnon folks think zombie JKF and JFK Jr are going to appear for them?

If zombies are looking for brains, isn’t a Q crowd the last place to appear?

Ha. For a while I always ended my gas purchases with an odd number, so that I could identify purchases I didn’t make.

I used to do something very similar, try to end mine with a charge ending in 0 or 5. These days I just save the receipt and document the charge in my daytimer.

I saw in an earlier thread that our esteemed PhillyPretzel received the long-awaited Yeti power brick.

The package I was waiting for also came Monday. (The one that disappeared for four days, bounced back and forth between the Midvale Utah Post Office and the USPS Salt Lake City Distribution Facility for another three days before it was finally put on a slow boat to the Dulles, Virginia USPS Facility (The most boring of all USPS facilities). It then made its way to the Herndon, Virginia post office and finally, my house.

It appears to have survived undamaged and also appears to be the correct part. I’ll verify that tomorrow.

Btw, Herndon Virginia is named for a ship captain who went down with his ship. And if you knew this area, you would understand how appropriate the name is:

The early settlement was named Herndon in 1858, after Commander William Lewis Herndon, an American naval explorer and author of Exploration of the Valley of the Amazon. Commander Herndon captained the ill-fated steamer SS Central America, going down with his ship…

re: #44 Charles Johnson

Rod Serling voice:

Imagine, if you will, a world of two soups.

The first is one in which a carrot/ginger soup in a vegetable stock is served in a bowl in which the carrots and ginger are all 1/2” cubes.

The second is one in which, after cooking, the soup was put into a food processor and pureed.

One is inedible (#1!). The second is fan-fucking-tastic!

So by and large, I’m a pureed soup guy when the ingredients include stuff that needs to be atomized to mix, rather than overpower, the other ingredients. So, ginger/carrot soup, pureed. Vegetable beef, non-pureed.

I think this is an absolutely perfect argument.

And I’m going to go ahead and proclaim myself winning the Interwebs today based on this perfect post. Yay, me!

Night all.

We got most of our grocery shopping done today, and we were shocked to find almost no empty shelves! Central Market South was out of the small servings of Italian Sausage White Bread Stuffing, only having the 24 oz. pre-packs, which is way too large for a two person Turkey Day dinner.

Socialism! A complete breakdown of the domestic distribution system.

I blame Joe Fucking Biden and Kamala Fucking Harris for this level of empty shelves, which by and large don’t exist and are just Ted Cruz pipe dreams.

Why can’t we mock these charlatans and shut them the fuck up?

Oh, media.

Alex Jones says we are seeing the book of Revelations come true now. He says this is the most important time in history since Christ walked the earth.

In his Sandy Hook defamation lawsuit defense, Alex Jones maintained that his broadcasts were “performance art” and not meant to be taken seriously or literally.

I assume that also applies to any other comments he has about the Bible…

I am not eligible for booster until January.

I got Biontech. Cannot say about first shot as it came in the midst of an early summer heat wave that had me pretty knocked out. Slightly sore arm.

Second shot in July really knocked the wind out of me, took me weeks to recover, had to cancel a number of hiking tours for being out of shape.

46
Dopamine Fish  Nov 23, 2021 • 4:05:03am

On the subject of boosters: I had the Johnson and Johnson single shot in April. My side effects were basically the same as what I got with the Pfizer booster last month (6 months overdue, but it took time for the approvals): Arm was sore for 24-36 hours, and the next day I had chills and was feeling a general malaise. Wasn’t my favorite experience in the world, but I’d sure as hell rather go through that than go through COVID again. That just plain suuuuuucked.

Wrestling is staged?! Who knew!?!?

One WWE fan at Barclays Center attempted to get into the action by attacking one of the wrestlers.

A fan jumped the guard rail near the back of ramp and tackled WWE star Seth Rollins as he walked back from his match during “Monday Night Raw” on Monday.

Not sure about the Pfizer/Biontech shot, but every single person I know, myself included, that had the Moderna vaccine, including people who felt no effects at all from the first two shots, were knocked on their ass for a day or two from the booster.

I’ve heard that the booster gets you back up to 95% protection in about 2 days instead of 2 weeks and this might be why people are feeling like ass for a couple of days after. Probably a greater immune response, but I’m not a doctor by any means.

I’m sorry that a person such as yourself, who is doing the right thing, had to suffer with COVID and happy you made it through ok.

I can’t fathom people not taking it because they are afraid of feeling a bit under the weather for a day or two.

So…. possibly ending up in the hospital and dying from ARDS is better?

Holy crap. That cult of Q-holes still in Dallas is seriously unbalanced.

Protzman’s followers take direction from him; days after the initial rally, they lined up single-file in Dealey Plaza, appearing to await his instructions.

“There is absolutely behavior control and thought control,” Rothschild said. “He’s telling people what to do. He’s having people stand in straight lines to have conversations. He’s telling people when to go outside, when to look up, when to look down. It is unquestionably the behavior of a cult leader.”

Thanks. It was made all the more unpleasant because it was a “gift” from my own family last Thanksgiving, after Mrs. Fish and I went to such painstaking efforts to put together a safe travel plan, and my dumbass sister and brother-in-law decided to volunteer at church serving lunch to hundreds of unmasked people. I applaud their willingness to serve, but it was not the smart play. I hear they did it again this year, but at least the bout of COVID they will undoubtedly bring home will have passed by the time we go home for Christmas.

A Mom Anon  Nov 23, 2021 • 6:14:15am

I hope everyone has a happy thanksgiving weekend. I won’t be cooking a turkey or anything else til I feel better. I was able to get up and walk to the back door and let Cleo out this morning, but my symptoms are still there. My primary doctor’s office isn’t answering the phone, and with my shitty insurance (something I don’t know what to do about, none of my choices are good) and ER visit is going to cost at least a grand, if I am admitted, it could be thousands more. Because we have a savings account and a house( the only money we have is in checking/savings) we don’t qualify for help unless we spend all the money first. This is such a dumb system. Let people lose everything and then give them basic help, that makes sense. Then what happens to us?

I have a lot of things to be thankful for, and I truly am blessed in so many ways. I just wish that we were a more kind, compassionate and understanding nation. It sure would help ease a lot of suffering and sorrow. Holidays are tougher for me, my family cut me off years ago and my husband’s family is in Florida and don’t do holidays with us. The last few years we just get a present or two for our son and a couple of close friends and that’s it. To be honest, I hate this time of year now.

re: #71 A Mom Anon

Much love and lots of blessings to all of you, I hope you find peace and joy this long weekend.

New details are emerging about the newest dozen police officers lauded by Gov. Ron DeSantis for moving to Central Florida from New York City to escape what the governor described as low morale and a lack of support from Democratic politicians there.

The new hires include one previously fired as a Walmart security guard, one with only three years of experience who demanded more than double his salary and others with mysterious gaps in their résumés.

One said he mistakenly checked a box on his employment application indicating he illegally used marijuana recently — then said he actually never did. Two failed to disclose on their Lakeland applications they had been disciplined over minor matters by the NYPD.

There’s more

Mary Lemanski, social media manager for the Democratic Party of DuPage County, was let go from her position Monday morning after posting a series of tweets comparing Kyle Rittenhouse to the driver of the SUV that sped through barricades and struck dancers, musicians and others during a Waukesha, Wisconsin, Christmas parade.

“It was probably just self-defense #Wisconsin #KyleRittenhouse,” Lemanski tweeted about the tragedy that left five dead and 40 injured.

She followed up the statement, replying to a comment deriding her opinion and saying, “I’m sad. I’m sad anytime anyone dies. I just believe in Karma and this came around quick on the citizens of Wisconsin.”

Nyt: zero point zero

For most people, the vaccines remain remarkably effective at turning Covid into a manageable illness that’s less dangerous than some everyday activities.”

“The main dividing line is age. In Minnesota, which publishes detailed Covid data, the death rate for fully vaccinated people under 50 during the Delta surge this year was 0.0 per 100,000 — meaning, so few people died that the rate rounds to zero.”

“Washington State is another place that publishes statistics by age and vaccination status. In its most recent report, Washington did not even include a death rate for fully vaccinated residents under 65. It was too low to be meaningful.”

“Hospitalization rates are also very low for vaccinated people under 65. In Minnesota during the Delta surge, the average weekly hospitalization rate for vaccinated residents between 18 and 49 was about 1 per 100,000.”

I’ve heard that the booster gets you back up to 95% protection in about 2 days instead of 2 weeks and this might be why people are feeling like ass for a couple of days after. Probably a greater immune response, but I’m not a doctor by any means.

I got the Moderna booster, and felt slightly nauseous the next morning, then I was fine.

The Mrs and I are scheduled for our boosters at beginning of December. We’re doing the Moderna trifecta. First shots left our arms sore (mine more than hers). Second shot gave us both low grade fevers (mine worse than hers) for 24 hours or so. Third shot?

Better protection against dying from covid and choking on our own bodily fluids? Yeah, that’s what I’m counting on. I’ll take the passing discomfort.

Trust me, when my pistol is on my hip and under my shirt, I know that I am privileged as a white man to do so. I’m just also thankful to the US Army so that, unlike many of the assholes out there, I understand how and why I am doing it and how to be safe about it.

As much as it’s a pain, of we don’t stick together, we will fail.

The problem is how much I’m seeing elsewhere of how many people on the left (not even accelerationist Berner types either) just ready to shitkick Biden and the rest of the party on the basis of ‘Biden hasn’t fixed everything, he’s the biggest supermassive failure ever!!’ Almost solely on the basis of the news not reporting anything good. And every little bit seems to just calcify it even more and absolutely nothing penetrates through. It just feels like it’s going to get worse until we’re facing a total wipe, even as good shit gets past.

The power of the almighty narrative in effect.

I was looking at stats from Los Angeles. About 15% of us have had this, maybe more for those with symptoms so minor as to not get tested. I wonder how many twice, and how that relates to lifestyle and risks.

Two days later, the 71-year-old cardiologist fell ill with COVID-19, according to the organizer of the one-day gathering and two other people with direct knowledge.

The organizer, Dr. John Littell, further reported to The Daily Beast that six others among the 800 to 900 participants had also tested positive or developed COVID symptoms “within days of the conference.”

A typical family gathering meal in these parts (usually a holiday or a birthday) consists of the following elements:

* A meat - roast beef for generic family gatherings, ham at Christmas, turkey at Thanksgiving, ham loaf for Easter and birthdays/other special occasions
* Homemade macaroni and cheese
* Corn pudding
* Something with potatoes - potato salad, roast potatoes, or potatoes and carrots in the slow cooker with the beef
* Pre-packaged rolls; my family doesn’t have any bread bakers
* Green bean casserole or something close to it
* Dessert is a mix ‘n’ match of no less than two pies, cookies, and ice cream

Moving over from Methodist in the south to my dad’s Presbie church wasn’t a tough transition for my mom.

Grandmom’s Sunday lunch usually had canned pear halves with cottage cheese in the hole with cheddar grated on top as a kind of salad. But her cinnamon rolls were to die for. Did you ever go to the Beef House near the Illinois/Indiana line? Great rolls there, too.

All this talk about Jello made be take a trip down memory lane.

When I was a kid, the electric company had a one week cooking school at the Junior High’s home economics room. I recently came across the mimeographed cookbook but have forgotten where I found it/put it.

One of the recipes was for Candy Apple Jello. You used a box of red Jello. We used cherry. At the time there was no apple flavored Jello, although there might be now. You made the Jello according to the directions. While the Jello was still hot, you melted some of the little red cinnamon candies in the hot Jello. After it cooled and started getting thick, you added chunks of apple. It really did taste like a Candy Apple.

On the COVID front: While things were looking like they were going to taper off as the holidays approached, with the trend in new cases/deaths/hospitalizations reaching a plateau, two weeks ago a sudden increase has driven our new case count to a very high level not seen since last Thanksgiving (though not quite as bad as then, yet). That also corresponds with the onset of the cold weather, meaning it’s probably pretty likely that we’re seeing the result of all the unvaccinated idiots crowding indoors without masks or social distancing. Sigh.

Conveniently left out

Masks must be worn in private settings, including your home, when non-household members are present, the county noted

When alone, Santa Cruzans do not need wear a mask in a room or office so long as it is only being used by them or members of their household.

The county also is not expecting residents to wear masks during indoor activities in which it is logistically difficult, such as eating, drinking, swimming, showering in a fitness facility or when obtaining medical or cosmetic services.

They just thought that this twisted violent little creep was going to automatically spout 100% approved gooper talking points on command, instead of being a potato-shaped mishmash of incoherent half-understood brain worms. I don’t know if they all figured that someone else was going to prep him, or are so hermetically vacuum wrapped in their own world that they just assumed he was One Of The Body and let him rip.

I think I just broke something laughing so hard
I definitely scared the cats

What are they mixing it with?

I recounted last night. It’s been 6 months since my 2nd Moderna. I’m eligible for the third.

I’m two weeks out, and will get it as soon as I’m eligible.

Oh, he did go off the deep end…

Boris Johnson’s Peppa Pig speech forces him to answer the question: ‘Is everything okay?’

During the speech, Johnson rifled through his notes in what looked like a confused state for more than 20 seconds, saying “forgive me” three times as the group of prominent business leaders sat in silence.

On another occasion, Johnson bellowed “Vroom vroom rah rah,” as he recalled his time as a motoring correspondent, mimicking the sound of a car engine and discussing electric vehicles. He then declared he had come “down from Sinai,” before comparing his 10-point plan for a greener economy to the biblical Ten Commandments — although his list featured offshore wind and hydrogen.

I got my booster about 5 days before my official six month window was up…still didn’t catch autism.

Putting these things like counting, into the responsibility of Americans is a bit risky.

So the little racist fuck is trying to court multicultural sympathy? Also, he didn’t have any resources if not for $2million provided by Mike Lindell and Ricky Schroder.

Beats me. I think we usually assume a lot more logical consistency and deliberate strategy from arbitrarily famous randos than is justified. He might kinda believe that Black Lives Matter, and kinda believe that it’s his duty as a white man to drag a gun around and sort out matters that have nothing to do with him because LOOTERS, and who knows what the fuck else. I’m not interested in listening to his pearls of wisdom and just want him to cause the maximum amount of chaos in the gooper tent before his terrible judgment and fairly justified sense of impunity get him in bigger trouble than he can handle.

Meanwhile, in more sad grifter news,

I’m wondering if putting crunchy jalapenos on top instead of crunchy onions would upgrade the bean casserole. (I’m totally good with any type of bean casserole)

re: #182 Dopamine Fish

My family has two particular recipes that are fairly unique, one from each side of the family. The grandmother that made the Jell-O had the recipe for ham loaf, which is a main dish for special occasions that’s basically a meatloaf made with pork products and a sweet glaze.

Our family’s big holiday dish consisted of a package of Ore-Ida has browns mixed with a jar of Cheeze Whiz, a tub of sour cream and a jar or pimentos and baked until a brown crust formed on it…

My wife left the TV on ABC, and so I heard a little bit of the intro:

Character 1: isn’t it sacrilegious to hatch a plot in chapel.

Character 2: it’s a nondenominational chapel.

When I make a casserole of that nature, I use one tin french cut green beans, one tin spinach, one tin peas, and one cream of mushroom or cream of bacon. Mix in some curry powder/turmeric, a little berbere seasoning or chili powder, and some melting cheese, usually monterey jack or similar. Then cover with another sprinkle of parmesan + asiago. It gives it much more flavour and less runniness than a regular green bean casserole. Crunchy onions go on after baking.

I did that a few years back and Mrs J would not eat it because they were surprisingly hot. For her, anyway. I was good with them.

I have one of those. I was going to take it to my office, but then remembered that not everyone would understand.
