Clyde Lawrence and Gracie Lawrence have been writing songs and listening to countless Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, and Aretha Franklin records in their family’s New York City apartment since they were little kids. After years of playing together, they officially created Lawrence, an eight-piece soul-pop band comprised of musician friends from childhood and college. The band has since gained a devoted following for its high-energy, keyboard-driven sound, which features tight, energetic horns, explosive lead vocals, and fully-live arrangements.

I thought we stopped use of “FT” (Edit:) because it was causing Charles to run into issues with Google Ads.

Happy birthday from Minnie and I. Minnie, while not a rescue, was re-homed when her owner had to give her up when he moved into a new apartment that didn’t allow her. She was originally Beckie’s emotional support/companion until she passed. Now she’s mine and does a wonderful job of keeping me somewhat sane.

Aki recognizes nothing virtual nor her own reflection. If she hears or sees or smells a dog or other animal she instantly gets agitated, but if a dog howls on tv right in front of her it didn’t happen as far as she’s concerned.

As someone doing machine learning, it’s easy to see why that the algorithms aren’t up to the task right now. But people suck at it, too. And what does the company do about things that offend one group of people and not another?

Given that twitter allows bots, and that it’s pretty easy to spoof real users anyway, it wouldn’t be very hard to overwhelm a human based moderation system on Twitter. They would have to be pretty restrictive in the first place.

As requested, Her Majesty Queen Fuzzybutt, the 19-year-old Ruler of the House we inherited in March of 2020. Not sure of her breed but she can get an almost-Siamese note when she’s wailing the cat blues at 4 a.m. She is firmly convinced that anytime hubby or I sit down in certain chairs that it is a signal for treats to be dispensed. Like now, thank you. She almost always gets them, since little old lady cats deserve all the spoiling they can get (like 94-year-old little old lady humans who we still miss terribly.) It’s amazing how loud the thundering paws of a 9-lb cat can be when she’s on a quest for those crunchy little bits of bliss :)

Twitter could be greatly improved if they simply took action against the worst offenders - the high-traffic right wing personalities who spew endless amounts of disinformation and hate speech without consequences.

In many cases, it’s not even a judgment call. It’s very obvious.

I’m convinced that all of this wrangling over machine learning is just a smokescreen to cover the fact that they simply don’t want to do anything about the abusers, because taking real action to stop it would hurt their bottom line.

They know right-wing authoritarians will believe anything, no matter how absurd the claim, as long as it panders to their fantasies.

“…Consider what it takes to produce heroin — large plots of secure land to grow opium poppies, a labor force for farming and refining, and several months of time. Then you’ve got weather, pests and water supply issues to deal with.

Move the entire process to a lab and it is so much more predictable — and profitable.

With fentanyl, you need about 20 times less product to achieve the same high as heroin.

One kilogram of pure fentanyl from China, costing about $3,300 to $5,000, can be turned into a diluted powder sold on San Diego streets at a $300,000 value, according to the DEA. As it travels farther away from the border, the value skyrockets.

If it is in pill form, 1 kilogram of pure fentanyl can be made into 1 million pills containing 1 milligram of fentanyl each. Sell each pill for $10 to $20 a piece on the street and that is a $10 million to $20 million product.”

“Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) says omicron is just the latest deep state plot to distract America,” New York Daily News reports.

“The former White House physician claimed the worrisome variant is a hoax that Democrats will use to impose new Covid-19 mail-in ballot rules.”

Said Jackson: “Here comes the MEV — the Midterm Election Variant! They NEED a reason to push unsolicited nationwide mail-in ballots Democrats will do anything to CHEAT during an election — but we’re not going to let them!”
