I gave to John Fetterman and he sent me this. Perfect. Just perfect.

“Dr. Oz may have pockets so deep he can self-fund his campaign’s $1.2 million ad buy… but that isn’t stopping him from trying to scam cash out of Pennsylvanians.

According to the Pittsburgh City Paper, Dr. Oz is asking for donations online with a pre-checked box in the fine print, which can mislead people into giving an automatically recurring donation… again and again and again.

This is an online fundraising tactic pioneered by — you guessed it — Donald Trump and the Republican party, who swindled some unsuspecting donors out of thousands of dollars. 🤢

Let’s be very clear: What Dr. Oz is doing is completely, 100% unethical. People deserve respect from the candidates running to serve them. That’s why from Day One, we’ve built our incredible grassroots movement by leveling with you about the stakes of this race. No fear-mongering, no “gotcha” fine print… just the truth about why John Fetterman is running for Senate and why supporting our campaign is so damn important.

Pennsylvanians deserve so much better than a scam artist like Dr. Oz. If you agree, will you chip in $5 or any amount you can today to help John beat him? We’re grateful for your support, and we’ll always put in the honest work to earn it.”

There’s something about how corrupt entities like Dr. Oz or the entire GOP right now have a gravitational pull on each other. But the big thing is how high-density corruption of Trump pulled them all into his orbit.

Fox News only interest in the current Russia/Ukraine crisis is to somehow make Biden appear “weak.” That’s it.

According to Fox News If Putin does not cross the border and invade Ukraine it will be because Biden “caved” on some back and forth deal and gave away the farm…bravo Master technician Putin!” If Putin invades it will because “Putin thinks Biden is weak and powerless.”

The prospect that Putin is a paranoid thug or simply psychotic and malignantly self-absorbed never enters the picture at Fox News.

But who says we’re rational?

Illinois COVID deaths have skyrocketed!! Still almost 40% less than Pennsylvania but the highest since February (it is an unreliable one day number but still…). Unless this is a fluke, it looks like there are dark days ahead, especially now that the temperatures make it increasingly unpleasant to dine outside.

Young historian looks at a video from the Youtube channel that specializes in WWI:

Historian Reacts - Germany in Two-Front War and the Schlieffen-Plan I THE GREAT WAR - Week 2

I’m glad there are young’uns out there who have a serious interest in the past.

I think WWI is way too understudied in this country. Besides the fact that the US was a party to the war, the events that led up to the war seem like a case study in what goes wrong when old men in power are unable to understand the times.

Exactly. They thew him to the wolves in order to protect themselves. If Covid protocols hadn’t been in place, those two assholes would have been in Canada. Being hoisted by their own petard by refusing to get vaxed was a chef kiss.

That’s where the D.A. really screwed the pooch. By charging him as an adult, his “parents” are no longer responsible for his legal bills. The State is.

Isn’t it standard to charge teen-agers as adults for truly heinous crimes?

My cable modem has been giving me grief. I restarted my Mac Pro today (which I do every few weeks because things can get a little slow without the housekeeping scripts that run at startup), and bam, errors connecting to the internet. “ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE,” said Chrome, to my dismay. The weird part is that some sites like YouTube were still working, even though System Prefs Network tab showed no IP address. Ouch.

Tried a bunch of different ways to fix it, including rebooting a couple more times, and finally decided to do the old “pull the power cables out of the cable modem and wifi router” and sit there like a doofus twiddling my thumbs for about a minute, then plug them back in with a sense of fatalism that it will fix anything.

And lo and behold, it was fixed. The magic smoke is back in the computer, the hamsters are happily running in their little cage wheels, and all is right with the world. Well, maybe not all.

Fucker is an obvious tool and traitor, consciously serving the ends of a hostile foreign power. I don’t know why people keep trying to deny it. No, I don’t think Putin is paying him (would take too much to hide), or has kompromat on him. He is just a natural sympathizer, recognizing that he and Putin have a common goal, the reduction of the United States to a loose, isolationist collection of neo-feudal states ruled by hereditary elites. This is the only way the stupid, degnerate side of the gentry, like Carlson, can keep its privileged position in the twenty-first century. For Putin the payoff is the elimination of the United States as a barrier to Russian expansion. It is a marriage, or at least a pimp/john relationship, made in hell.

That won’t do it. Every cable and streaming service that I’ve seen includes fox in its offerings — and they get their revenues from those bundles, not so much from advertising. The only way not to pay them is not to have the service.

That’s why I don’t have cable or any of its streaming equivalents. Even if I have to listen to the MSNBC audio feed because of it.

For Putin the payoff is the elimination of the United States as a barrier to Russian expansion. It is a marriage, or at least a pimp/john relationship, made in hell.

Trump has always been a Russian toady. Has Tucker’s fondness for Putin predated his support of Trump? And what about Murdoch? A few years ago, there were rumors that his ex was dating Putin. Is it just that these people are all members of oligarch central whose wealth and avarice put them outside traditional political structure and in a new international cartel designed to preserve and extend their power and riches for the indefinite future?

Apparently a bunch of Rs in Disarray

House Republicans are questioning Senate Republicans’ decision-making at every turn, a rift that’s fueling an intraparty fight over the debt ceiling,” Politico reports.

“First it was President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill, then it was last week’s stopgap government funding deal that divided the two GOP conferences. And after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell cut a deal with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to ease Democrats’ ability to raise the debt ceiling, tensions are boiling over between the wings of the Republican Party.”

“In fact, House GOP leaders said the deal is so toxic they may not need to twist arms to get their members to vote against it.”

The Hill: McConnell faces GOP push back on debt deal.

It’s coming through Murdoch. As Hecuba’s Daughter so accurately observed in #114, it’s Oligarch Central. Carlson couldn’t sneeze without Muchdoch’s leave. He is essentially their conduit to the local gentry, the real heart and soul of the Republican Party. It’s kindness porn. I LOVE that there are so many humans able to see a problem and then use their skills and resources to fix the problem. But, and of course there are several buts involved, this simply shouldn’t be happening. At all. Why is a special wheelchair 20K in the first place? I get that technology evolves and changes, early adaptation is rarely cheap. But there have to be limits on what medicines, equipment, therapies/treatments, etc cost. Most Americans, while better off than in other places, are not close to wealthy and treatment is not possible without help from insurance. And why are health insurance companies allowed to reject actual healthcare measures? Especially basic things that already exist? Healthcare should be a right, not a privilege, in every country. It’s a basic human right.

I don’t know how this system can be fixed, but it has to be. I love to see people reaching out to take care of each other, we need more of that all over the place. Imagine what we could do if we could figure out that meeting basic human needs; food, clothing, safe shelter, clean water and food supply, medical care and help for families and single people, based on need, nothing else, actually truly can make our world noticeably better. All that “wasted money” spent on “those people “, directed at making sure we establish a basic level we’re all guaranteed to launch from would eliminate so many problems. Violence, addiction, homelessness, deaths from preventable illnesses, poverty, lack of education and many other issues could be vastly improved, to the point that many “social programs” that conservatives hate would no longer have a reason to exist.

I just don’t understand pouring so much awful out into the world and finding it enjoyable. It’s so much easier to be kind, kindness eases so much stress and pressure and allows you to proceed with a clear head when shit inevitably happens. Anger has its place, it can and has spurred enormous change, but anger and violence (unless you are met head on with violence, I believe in self defense) only become worse and will feed upon anything in its path. I don’t understand why so many humans have a need to destroy anything resembling peace, calm and trying to live a happy, not opulent, but comfortable life. All this shitting on others for fun is out of hand, not sure how we fuck that shit up so it stops either.

I was thinking one day, that someone should invent a wheelchair that could raise the seat so the chair-driver’s head was at the same height as those of standing people. About a month later, one rolled up to the counter of the deli I worked at. After serving the young man, I came around the counter to admire his chair, and I told him I had just thought there should be such a chair, ‘and here you are!’ He said it was working well, it was very expensive, and he had very good insurance.

Don’t get me started. One of my daughters earned a Masters from the top university in her field. And ended up with $140,000 student debt.

And then she had my granddaughter who:

Was put in NICU immediately and ventilated.

Was air flighted to university of Chicago and placed on ECMO.

Was sent to another hospital for heart surgery.

Has spent months in the PICU.

Recently had a third heart surgery to replace her mitral valve.

My daughter was given special equipment to monitor the levels of the drugs she requires. She just spent 5 days trying to get supplies for the test machine (which isn’t normally available to the public) which the agencies refused to provide due to the companies mistake that it had been provided.

So my daughter, who works full time, has spent countless hours fighting to get her daughter the health care she needs.

So in addition to my daughters student loan debt, she was facing well over a million (probably closer to two million in health care debt.

They are pursuing all avenues to cover the health care costs.

But how can we expect our kids to prosper when they follow the rules and end up crushed by the system to generate wealth for the wealthy.

Rant off.

Something more upbeat. Here is my granddaughter. Taken last weekend.

The real problem is that for most of those with money, too much is never enough. They are always scheming on how to minimize their taxes, transfer burdens from income taxes to consumption taxes, guaranteeing that their families have the best of health care, education, and housing while ignoring the well-being and future of those who were not so fortunate. And this elite has managed to persuade tens of millions of Americans, of more modest means, that they are all on the same side against “them” — those of different races or religions or cultures or sexual orientations or immigrants of color , especially if they are in dire economic straits. Trump paid no taxes in 10 out the past 15 years (from 2019) and 2 of the years he paid only $750, but his supporters are fine with that.

There is something toxic about the evolution of capitalism — all the worst traits that Marx denounced are infecting our nation, especially those affiliated with the GOP. I don’t know what it is that has stripped so many Americans of compassion and empathy and concern for the well-being of our planet. It’s as though Scrooge has been selected as Person of the Century, representing the ideal American.

Now, I’m wondering if they planned to portray themselves as really shitty parents so their kid gets the sympathy card by enough jurors to get a hung jury.

If there is any plan in play, it’s to cut their kid loose and hope they can save their own asses. And if they hadn’t tried to make a run for it, they might have actually succeeded in doing so. But my personal belief is they ran because they know that between now and trial, a lot more damning evidence is going to come out about their “parenting” style. And any hope they had of convincing a jury that they were totally in the dark about their son’s problems would dry up faster than Ben Shapiro’s wife.

Hallmark Christmas movies are the video equivalent of Harlequin paperbacks. I don’t think they made enough Christmas movies this year.

Gee, which Christmas movie should I watch this year?

- The story of the workaholic single woman who goes back to her small home town for Christmas and ends up falling in love with the only guy in town who isn’t married or old, learning through the spirit of Christmas that she was wrong for ever having ambitions or dreams beyond being a stay-home mom in a rural dead zone.

- The story of the “totally normal” family who suddenly have a major crisis happen just before the holidays, only for the spirit of Christmas to magically fix all their problems rather than leaving them homeless/in debt up to their eyeballs/social pariahs.

- The story of the con-artist/small-time crook who gets caught criming just before the holidays and who should rightly end up in jail after a long string of similar arrests, yet the spirit of Christmas instead changes his character such that he ends the film becoming a beacon of the community.

- Or the standard holiday-themed slasher flick that reads like it was churned out by a Hollywood AI.

He was married, but his wife tragically died in childbirth (twins!). It’s been a couple years so he’s ready to love again (and the twins are cute toddlers, don’t need diaper changes). And workaholic-tried-to-escape-small-town-life has a new trope this year, now that she can work from home and be a stay-home mom at the same time.

Nah, he’s actually secretly wealthy because of dead parents/financial genius/etc but is supposed to contrast with the workaholic because he chose to live a simple life in the small town and is happier for it. Bonus points if the two were childhood sweethearts broken apart when she decided to leave home to seek out opportunities in the city because the only options in town were “work in the family business” or “homemaker.”

Shropshire Slasher  Dec 8, 2021 • 4:41:07am

Israel has been busy keeping nukes out of the hands of the Iranians which included using a remote-controlled machine gun. Here are three of them carried out by Mossad agents.

The tripartite sabotage effort began on July 2, 2020, with a mysterious explosion in the Iran Center for Advanced Centrifuges facility at Natanz, one of the ultra-secure nuclear sites that are dotted around Iran.
At first, the Iranians were mystified. The building had apparently blown itself up. But how? The answer, as they say, shocked them. When the ayatollah’s apparatchiks were renovating the facility in 2019, Israeli agents had posed as construction merchants and sold them building supplies. Those building supplies were packed with explosives. A year later, they were detonated by Tel Aviv.

“Let’s say you wanted to get explosives into Natanz,” a source told me coyly. “How could you do it? You could, for example, think about how people working there need to eat. They need food.
“So you could put the explosives in the lorry that delivers the food to the canteen, and the scientists could pick it up once it’s inside. Yes, you could do that.”
The plan worked. The scientists collected the bombs and installed them. In April, after Iran announced that it had started to use advanced IR-5 and IR-6 centrifuges in the underground hall — in brazen defiance of its nuclear commitments — the explosives were triggered.

Over the preceding months, a team of Israeli spies and their Iranian agents had jointly smuggled an armed quadcopter — weighing the same as a motorcycle, a source confirmed — into the country, piece by piece. Now it was time to deploy it.
On June 23, the team assembled the kit and took it to a location 10 miles from the TESA factory. The operatives launched it, piloted it to the factory and released the payload, causing a large explosion. Then the drone returned to the launch site, where it was spirited away to be used again.
It is significant that these operations took place while the negotiations were continuing in Vienna. The Mossad operations were carried out without international collaboration. To use Israeli intelligence slang, the attacks were “blue-and-white” rather than “blue-white-and-red,” which refers to American involvement. This is significant, too.

I like spy stories like this. So very James Bond. The walls of the break room are pure C-4. The toilet on the third level is the detonator. Try to remain calm as you exit to avoid suspicion…or maybe just leave the seat up and hope nobody puts it down before you get to the gate.

Iran was moving toward normalcy with the world. Netanyahu needed an enemy to justify his hold of power. Keeping Iran a threat was good for his job security.

That’s like the extreme opposite end of how a lot of people are in this country.

One of the Right-Wing Evangelical movement founders, Frank Schaeffer, has confessed and is giving an apology.

Frank Schaeffer, former Evangelical pariah and author of “Why I am an Atheist Who Believes in GOD,” continues his apology tour. He, his family, and other charlatans have exacted a wound on this country that has cost us much.

In this interview with Joy-Ann Reid, Schaeffer explains how a group of Evangelical Christians distorted the movement. He said that before they deceived their followers, more than 50% of Evangelicals were pro-choice, including the likes of Billy Graham. Ironically, Graham’s son has become a stone-cold Evangelical hack.
This statement from Schaeffer says it all.

“We come from a place where we have acted as if this is part of Christian theology,” Schaeffer said. “It is not. And the second thing is is that my family, sadly, as I talk about in the book, went out of its way not to stop abortion but to put women back in their place. This was a misogynistic movement. I was part of it, and that’s why I’ve spent the last six years writing an apology and what I hope is the most pro-family, pro-child pro-woman book out there. And I’ll tell you something you cannot be pro-family unless you are pro-choice because if women are treated like nothing more than incubating vessels, second-class citizens, and this horrible burden that nature and evolution or god or whoever the creator was, puts on women. If this is not balanced by the right to choose, we cannot have an equal society. Women cannot have careers. Women cannot have lives.”

And then he gave the heartfelt apology.

“I am so sorry for the part I played. I am so sorry on behalf of my father for the part we played,” Schaeffer said. “We were a misogyny team. We were not pro-life. We were a misogyny team. We were not pro-life, and it is evident.”

The closest example I’m aware of is that a friend of hers is refusing the vax, and mom-in-law straight up told she can’t come over until she’s jabbed.

It’s really fucked up. This friend had to get physical therapy after a hospital stay and the rehab told her “Get vaxxed or piss off.” The woman chose piss off and have personal therapist come to the house, most likely at 100% expense on her part.

This incident happened after mom-in-law got vaxxed. She suffers from COPD and I think self-preservation overrode the poison she watches nightly.

Attention Grinches, Scrooges and Puritan allies.

As the inclusion of our esteemed Puritan friends would indicate, I have never regarded the War on Christmas as a purely secular endeavor. We could even have support from fundamentalists, if they ever bothered to actually read their holy book. Jeremiah 10:1-25, which denounces the decoration of trees from the forest, is a case in point. Ignorant shepherds though they were, the Bible writers recognized pagan idolatry when they saw it, which is more than can be said for their modern day successors.

10 Hear what the Lord says to you, people of Israel.
2 This is what the Lord says:
“Do not learn the ways of the nations
or be terrified by signs in the heavens,
though the nations are terrified by them.
3 For the practices of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
4 They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.
5 Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field,
their idols cannot speak;
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm
nor can they do any good.”
