Navy beans and cornbread New Year’s Day good luck dinner.

Cornbread in cast iron is proper. I have some ahi belly. Gonna make a panko crust for it and a honey/lemon/ginger sauce.

Neighbors out shooting again. 10 rapid shots, then 6, then 5 within two seconds.
Those deer must be some kind of ninjas.

So I replied to some Ken Paxton BS on Twitter and now I’m getting dog piled by RWNJs.

This is fun.

Looks yummy. I really do need to make up my ham and 15 bean soup. Heck, I even cubed up a bunch of ham the other day specifically for it.

I was doing a bit of clean up this morning on my computer. I deleted my amazon listing for my bookmarks and then put it back. The amazon listing is back on my MacBook Air and on my iPad but not on my iPhone. I am afraid that the bookmark will disappear on the MacBook Air and the iPad since it is not on the iPhone. How do I get the bookmark back on the iPhone?

I don’t know what it is, if it’s science or not. But it seems that cooking beans lower and slower tastes a little better. I know I can get pinto beans soft in 90 minutes but if I cook them all day on super low heat they seem to taste less starchy.

To rehdydrate? Yes, it is better than the ‘bring to boil/let cool/pour off liquid’ method.

I soak mine overnight with a bit of salt, drain and then simmer the soup all day. And no, cooking isn’t science. It’s majick and if you fuck it up, well you’ll know real fast.

I almost always drain the soak water and cook in fresh but this time I didn’t, just went to the stove with them. I can’t say I tasted any difference.

Most any dry bean-based dish tastes better when left to sit overnight. As do meatballs, goulash or any red spaghetti sauce. Slow food rules around this house,

Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.
Breathing a sigh of relief, the airport bus was working (light rail still honked till at least six p.m. due to that missing crew member problem). So very tired Boston sister took the bus to within two miles of us, and we picked her up there. Sun has finally peeked out, plows are running, the roads aren’t impassible, but it’s still cautious driving conditions.

I’ve driven through way worse, but man, am I glad I didn’t have to this time. It’s not the roads, it’s the other idiots on them. And my little old lady nerves, which are definitely not what they used to be.

Will give 2022 a semi-pass on this one, but still reserving judgment.

The bitter Conservatives in the thread make me laugh. Betty was a liberal Democrat. She was anti-racist long before that became acceptable or popular. She supported LGBT rights. She was an animal rights activist. She had humor and grace. She in no way reflected the hatefulness and bigotry which has fully engulfed the Republican Party.

Trump wouldn’t have been available to bother with a duel. He would have fled the country. Make no mistake. He was and remains a bully and coward. The Founders would not have taken kindly to any of his actions.

Hamilton. Burr was pretty sketchy himself. After he killed Hamilton, he lurked around out west (Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio - that west), there were rumors he tried to get people living out there to hook up with (IIRC) Spain.

He must really think he can just walk up to a governor and “arrest” them, like said governors don’t have security details (typically special detachments of state police/troopers) protecting them 24/7.

Is it really bad of me to hope that dude gets ventilated (and not in the “good” way) by said security details if he tries his “arrests” while carrying?

The southerners amongst our founders would indeed have been horrified that blacks, jews, women, could not only vote, but actually hold office.

On the other hand, Adams, Hamilton, Franklin, I’m not sure how many others, would have been totally okay with it.

For a brief period in the 1790s, elite property holding women could vote in NJ (a quirk of their state constitution). In the 1796 election (IIRC), the Federalists (Adams and Hamilton) supported these women voting because they assumed they would vote for the Federalists. The Democratic-Republicans (Jefferson and Madison) worked to take away these women’s voting rights because it was assumed they vote for the Federalists.

I have long believed that almost everyone can be brainwashed; that we are all susceptible to accepting “alternative” facts especially if they are presented by friends or people in authority or experts whom we respect, different fantasies for different folks. We are all gullible in our own way, though some are more easily persuaded to go down the rabbit hole and remain stuck there, especially if they have found a community that provides them needed emotional support. The article tries, perhaps too hard, to remind us that they are people who have been led astray.

Let us hope it’s not these few foot soldiers who have their lives ruined — let us hope that all those who promoted these lies are brought to justice, and that the tens of millions who continue to believe these lies are awakened to the truth.
