Andy Cohen’s tipsy rant about NYC’s mayor must have distracted CNN producers on New Year’s Eve, when several Twitter pranksters managed to get their NSFW usernames displayed on screen. Elsewhere, more details are coming to light about why the former president stayed silent for over three hours as a mob of his supporters ransacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. #Colbert #Comedy #Monologue

re: #11 Backwoods_Sleuth

Former French Education and Research minister Luc Ferry was a longtime friend of the brothers. He told French media he had spoken with the twins about the COVID vaccines and told them “you’re crazy” not to get it. He said they were not anti-vaxxers, but did not want to have the vaccines themselves, believing that their good health and fitness would save them from the virus, but perhaps not any ill effects of the vaccines.

Barefoot Grin  Jan 4, 2022 • 11:02:25am

I didn’t realize that Kelly Ernby, the anti-vax CA GOP operative who died of covid likely got it at the Turning Points USA rally she spoke at last week. Damn. That’s got to put the fear of G_d in some of the attendees. I hope those who are still negative will now get vaxxed.

I watched the clip from the liberal redneck and I think his take may have been wrong. He said that the elite team would have killed a bunch of the Jan 6th insurrectionists had they gotten further in…I am not sure that is the case, I think they may have been selected to support them, not suppress them.

Am I reading the Newsweek article wrong? Thoughts?

I sure hope Wisconsin has the sense to vote him out of office this year.

From the hill:

At a time when Democrats and Republicans can agree on little, they find themselves in rare consensus in Wisconsin: Seemingly everyone there wants Sen. Ron Johnson (R) to run for a third term.

Democrats view him as vulnerable, pointing to provocative comments on the coronavirus, 2020 election, racial justice protests and more, and are eager to take another crack at him. Republicans see in Johnson a battle-tested incumbent who has twice proven his mettle in a key swing state.

re: #12 Backwoods_Sleuth

Yeah, that last para was what stood out for me, too: I wonder if the Bogdanoff brothers would have considered “death” as a possible “ill effect” of the coronavirus?

Oh well, FWIW, it will at least disqualify them for the “sorry antivaxxer” roster…

And, rather unsurprisingly:

Neither brother was vaccinated against COVID-19. Asked about it on French radio last month, Igor Bogdanoff cited the controversial French scientist Dr. Didier Raoult - the man who made hydroxychloroquine a household name. Raoult said he had more confidence in future vaccines than those available now, and Igor Bogdanoff agreed that it was better to wait.

Prince Andrew has now done a complete reversal of his prior position that he would fully cooperate with any investigation into sexual abuse in Epstein’s orbit.

I dunno, sounds like HRH is fully cooperating with any efforts in the case that will get him completely off; arguments against the basic law he is being charged under are probably just a good start…

And IIJM, or does it sound (from the tenor of the arguments) like the Prince has hired unemployed Kraken lawyers idle since their election-overturn campaign crashed and burned….?

Related to the Evangelical performative piety event #Passion2022 in Atlanta on Sunday and Monday (Jackie Hill Perry was a speaker), she’s managed to burnish her ex-gay cis hetero credentials by giving birth to another child. I HOPE she was speaking remotely.

I hope this doesn’t come across as too mean, but frankly, Jackie Hill Perry is pushing heaping piles of unadulterated bullshit at confused kids and adults and needs calling out.

Twitter just showed how easily we can stop misinformation

CNN

It’s time for this to stop. When accounts post vaccine misinformation, those accounts should be shut down. Full stop. No one should ever get a free pass for being famous or powerful.
And, by the way, this is not a free speech issue. Information that puts people’s lives at risk makes no healthy contribution to public debate. That’s why, as I’ve pointed out before, there is plenty of precedent for restricting it.

If social networks applied such a rule against misinformation uniformly, it would also send an important signal to other users that they, too, would be putting their accounts at risk by sharing inaccurate information

.

Back when I was a youth leader at my church, I got asked several times to volunteer with the team that was taking our kids to the Passion conference. I declined every time, for several reasons:

1) I really don’t like Atlanta (which is where it’s usually held)
2) It’s usually in January, right when I’m trying to decompress from all the Holiday craziness.
3) I don’t see it as spiritually productive. To me, it’s just an excuse for a bunch of people to make money off of teenagers.
4) I am an introvert and I REALLY don’t like being in large crowds for an extended period of time.

Part of the religious right’s objective is to make claims for religious exemptions immune from secular probes of their legitimacy. They believe all they should have to do is assert that they have a religious objection to a law to be exempt from its application.

Trump-Loving Pastor Complains About People Leaving His Church During Service, Woman From The Stands Could Be Heard Responding “It’s Because You Keep Touching Them, You Nasty Perv”

Pro-Trump Tennessee Pastor Perry Stone had an awkward moment during the Christmas “special service” as he circled the room singing along to the music, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reports. Stone began describing to his followers in the church how some people have walked away from religion in recent years. Suddenly, a woman’s voice in the back brought the auditorium to silence, according to the outlet.
“Probably because you keep touching them, you nasty perv,” the woman yelled out. “Why don’t you tell them the real reason why they left? Because you kept touching them.”
“Ma’am, I’ll have you arrested, and I’ll bring a lawsuit against you for making statements like that,” Stone said as his team of security guards rushed toward the woman.

Note the lying quack claims he can have someone arrested for speech. If it’s slander, he can sue (lots of luck with that, creep), but not have someone arrested.

I see he’s a terrorist, too.

“…On Nov. 23, Stone posted a video to his more than 500,000 Facebook followers about a dream he said was a spiritual vision in which seven ugly fish with big mouths were keeping other fish, which Stone said were young people searching for Christ, from being caught by fisherman, who were pastors like himself. Stone said the ugly fish were evil and, in the dream, he killed one by beating it over the head with a pole to allow the good fish to be caught.

There would be retribution for those standing against the ministry, Stone said in the video.

“God is not pleased with it,” he said. ” And someone is going to suffer greatly. Somebody in that seven is going to suffer greatly. Possibly a physical death. Possibly a spiritual death. Something is going to happen negative to one of them.”

Nothing like a direct channeling of Hitler to make it in Republican politics.

“…In his political testament, Mein Kampf (1925), Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler repeated the charge that the Jews used Freemasonry to achieve their political ends: “To strengthen his [i.e., the Jew’s] political position, he tries to tear down the racial and civil barriers which for a time continue to restrain him at every step. To this end he fights with all the tenacity innate in him for religious tolerance—and in Freemasonry, which has succumbed to him completely, he has an excellent instrument with which to fight for his aims and put them across.”

Perry Stone could have her arrested for trespassing if she refused to leave after being given an order to do so. (Ask me how I know this.) But for what she said? Not hardly. And considering that there have been plenty of news articles about Stone’s “inappropriate behavior” with women in his ministry (tending towards sexual harassment), he can’t sue her for slander either, even if he could get past the public figure exception.

I make a point of never stepping on the property of churches I protest. Which is why it’s funny as hell when they warn me of trespass. :)

We had fraudulent testing centers here in Sweden as well. One doc in Gothenburg got something like a year in jail for forging 50 fake negative result. And we have an ongoing case involving 5- to 6-digt numbers of tests giving false negatives.
They discovered it at County Health when a testing center went outside the error bars as to negative results at the same time as a number of CoViD patients arrived at hospitals with fresh negative CoViD test results.
Those guys are most likely looking at serious jailtime.
