Southern California man was arrested after he recently attacked workers at a coronavirus vaccination clinic, allegedly calling them “murderers” and falsely accusing the staffers of causing the covid pandemic, according to police and clinic officials.
Two staff members with Families Together of Orange County were injured in a Dec. 30 attack on the group’s mobile clinic in Tustin, Calif., the organization said in a news release Wednesday. Families Together said one of the members “sustained serious injuries and was sent to the hospital in an ambulance” but that both workers “are expected to make a full recovery within a few days.”
“We are thankful for our team’s bravery, strength and resilience,” the group wrote. “Despite the violent nature of the assault, Families Together kept offering vaccines and boosters to patients that day and the team was fully back at work the following week.”
Thomas Apollo, 43, entered the clinic maskless last week and accused workers of being “murderers” who are “making people sick” before he started throwing punches at staffers, Parsia Jahanbani, mobile operations manager for Families Together, told the Orange County Register. Jahanbani recounted to the Los Angeles Times that it took multiple people at the clinic to pry Apollo away from a medical assistant he was beating up and that seven police officers were needed to restrain the man over about 15 minutes.

It took 2+ years, but that was for a fraction of the criminal misconduct we know to have occurred just in relation to 1/6 itself. That’s not counting the election fraud, interfering in federal election certifications, obstruction of justice, and all the rest.

Sounding political before all the evidence is documented would have been a bad approach. He has to sound like non-political law-enforcement that will catch criminal politicians. Right now, that’s Republicans, but you can’t just say so as head of law enforcement.
There’s also a point where being non-political in the face of multiple years of the DOJ *being* political and a lot of one-sided abuse makes people think that nothing will be done beyond hand-wringing and expressing “concern”. I will say, though, that Virginia’s mindset on clearing snow and ice from the roads has improved, a bit, from “Let the sun melt it”.
The DC area seems to still fit that old description “A city with all the charm of a Northern City. And all the efficiency of a Southern one.”

Which is simply a periodic happening for places like that and further south.
They don’t have winter weather events of that scale often enough to feel they need to spend the money to keep and maintain a sufficient stock of snow removal equipment and associated materials (salt, sand, whatever). So the city and highways get paralyzed for multiple days while they dig out. (IIRC, Atlanta got hit by 3-4” a few years ago and was out of commission.) And there is hand-wringing afterwards, followed by things not changing.
And I’d state that this doesn’t compare to the Texas power grid since roads being messed up is generally less dangerous to the public at large (stay at home and off the roads) as compared to a power failure which leads to people freezing to death at home itself.
I experienced the big Veterans’ Day snow storm in the DC area in 1987 (11.5”) first hand. Including getting stuck on I-95 for about seven hours.

There are some techniques that are needed in Pittsburgh that I have never used elsewhere.
I was driving up a hilly road behind a VW bug. The traffic light turned red.
I noticed that the last bit of the road before the light was a huge ice patch. So I stopped well clear of the ice patch on clear road.
Sure enough, when the light turned green, the VW Bug (manual transmission) tried to go into gear and slid backwards down the ice patch until it caught the clear pavement and could stop.

Here’s a nice positive story from the current disaster on I-95.
Casey Holihan and her husband, John Noe, had been stranded on Interstate 95 in Virginia for about 16 hours when they got an idea.
The couple spotted a Schmidt Baking Company truck just a few cars ahead of them about 9 a.m. Tuesday. At that point, they estimated, it had been approximately 37 hours since they had last eaten.
“We were starving,” said Holihan, 23, who at the time was at a standstill near Quantico. “People around us were very much struggling as well. We could hear kids crying.”
They decided to call Schmidt Baking Company in Baltimore in the hope that maybe it would be willing to offer whatever products were on the truck to hungry travelers. The couple knew it was a long shot, but they — and countless other people, some of whom were trapped on I-95 for close to 24 hours after snow and ice triggered an overnight shutdown — were desperate for food.
They reached the customer service line and left their phone number with a representative.
“I didn’t think it would actually work,” Holihan said.
What happened next stunned her: Just 20 minutes later, Chuck Paterakis, one of the owners of H&S Bakery, which operates Schmidt Baking Company, called the couple directly.
He advised them to go to the truck, then instructed the driver to offer up two products — one package of rolls and one loaf of bread — to any person who wanted them.

A few years back I was visiting a friend of mine that lived up Mt Washington. His neighbor a week or so before had slid off the road on ice and went down a 40 foot ravine. I think this is where the crux of the matter lies. Folks are so used to the overt politicization of institutions at the hands of the GOP that they believe that’s how it should work. This feels especially the case of the media. All this in turn creates the self-fulfilling prophecy where lack of overt politically-motivated activity is politically bad, because people expect the fast, flashy, fashy movement meant to captivate but not actually be legally actionable. And for that…well…I have no fucking answer. Because as much as I understand the need to actually do the full due diligence rather than act half-assed for political gain, the problem is the half-assed action for political gain works, at least for what it’s meant to be. Look how Bill Bar’s transparent spin on the Mueller report completely defanged it, precisely because the media bought fully into it, and thus the public only heard that part.
The problem here is if we try to emulate that kind of movement, we don’t have your Fox Newses, Rush Limbaughs, Breitbarts, OANNs, etc. to run the bullshit screens for us and encourage the ‘legitimate’ media to run with it. Hell, ‘legitimate’ media already is primed to believe the worst-case scenario for Dems from anything that happened, does anyone believe that Garland going full bore political agent at the podium would do anything but result in all knives out for him, Biden, and the whole of Dems?

That there are different mindsets and skill sets. Some are better suited for different tasks.
Garland, as I understand it, comes from a government judicial background. Where the judge is not supposed to be the center of the news story. Instead the case is supposed the central figure in the story.
Leadership, particularly political leadership may require more performative activity in order to motivate people and move things in a specific direction.

If you are older or have preexisting conditions that make you more vulnerable, I wouldn’t risk it.

When I used to travel for work is always go play in a tournament. I’ve never not made the final table. I’ve only won twice but making the final table all the time ain’t too shabby.
I never play online because they’re almost all suckers. If you don’t fold the first 50+ hands some schmuck will luck out and take you out. Case in point. Hand one: I had AA hold cards. I was just to the right on the SB. By the time it got to me THREE people went all in. I folded my AA. I would have lost because some asshole with like A10 off won the hand.

AA like other big pairs does not play well against multiple opponents. If I was in your situation in a tournament, and I had AA, and we were already in the money, and three went all in, I would almost definitely let my hand go and let two people bust and move up the pay ladder.

I played in exactly one poker tournament. My (at the time soon-to-be) brother-in-law fancied himself the hot shit at the poker table, and took me to a tournament at a local lakeside bar. (Essentially, a place that only very rich people would ordinarily see the inside of.) Call it beginner’s luck or being an outsider or whatever, but said brother-in-law-to-be wound up sitting beside me and watching as I went all the way to the second-to-last table before I got tired and bored and pushed all in until they took me out.

I can never quite figure out the math of how much to bet. When watching on TV, I try to guess what a player will bet. I then try to figure out what percentage of the pot the bet was in relation to where they are in the hand. I’m guessing there’s probably better ways to learn, LOL.

Philosophically, I don’t think that you should be able to vote until you have all the rights of an adult.
Practically, drinking and driving is the problem (for people of any age), not the drinking.
If an 18 year old isn’t responsible enough to buy a beer, they’re probably not responsible enough to buy a gun, serve in the armed forces, sign legally binding contracts, etc.
The drinking age is 18 in Europe, south America, Australia, and most of Canada, and drinking isn’t a big deal in those cultures as a result.
Maybe if an 18 year old could get a drink at a bar, instead of at a middle of nowhere kegger, they could just take an Uber home.

I’ve seen a lot of irresponsible binge drinking when I was an RA in college in the 90s. Invariably it was someone sheltered at home getting their first taste of freedom, or a stupid hazing ritual.
I lived in a twin-cities community: Champaign the age was 19 and Urbana was 18. So of course the Champaign 18yos drove a few extra blocks to go to bars and then pick up a sixer for after hours parties. When the Feds threatened to cut funding for those state and communities that didn’t raise the age to 21, there was compliance, but usually 18yos like me got grandfathered in. I think it should stay 21. There. I said it.
On a different note, an LA Times story about a mutual support group of congress-folk traumatized on 1/6 has been trending on and off. The comments are 95% “Lol, you pussies.” Mostly because it’s mainly female congresspeople, but also because trolls sense signs of weakness. Empaths, they are not.

I rarely bluff. I might limp in, hoping someone would do just what you said, then limp (call) again on the turn and (depending on where I was sitting) re-raise or go all in on the river (or if I’m so-so but fairly confident in my hand, do that on the turn so we don’t even get to the river), but if I’ve got the nuts, I’m taking you for every chip I can. Of course there’re variables; my hold cards, cards on the table, where I’m sitting, how many people are in the pot, etc., etc., etc., but while I’m pretty conservative in betting, I also take no prisoners.

I can never quite figure out the math of how much to bet. When watching on TV, I try to guess what a player will bet. I then try to figure out what percentage of the pot the bet was in relation to where they are in the hand. I’m guessing there’s probably better ways to learn, LOL.

I read those Harrington books back in the day. The best poker book I’ve read the last couple of years is “Play Optimal Poker” by Andrew Brokos. Gets into GTO and how to apply it to any opponent. Main thing I got out of it was polarized and condensed ranges and how to bet or not them. It’s great stuff. Brokos also has by far the best poker podcast out there called “Thinking Poker.” I can not recommend it enough. I also love every single thing Ed Miller has ever written.

I would be considered a TAG (tight aggressive) player. I play maybe 18-20% of my hands, but I play them very aggressively, always open raising and stealing any pot I think I can win based on the frequencies of my opponent(s).

I started playing poker in little bars in Kenosha, WI. There was like a club almost where they had regular poker nights at this and that bar. I’d go do that two evenings a week. I’d never played hold em before that. I was hooked. I kept getting better and became friends with this one guy (who sadly passed away from diabetes at like 30). He’s the one who invited me to play with this group of pros. This was before WSOP was a big deal so a long time ago.

I started playing in 2002. The first time I got my ass handed to me. The next morning I went out and bought a book on hold em strategy. I basically memorized what it said about position (the absolute most important thing in poker), and playing pretty tight, and what not. I immediately got better. I started playing small bar tournaments for $10 to $20 and started cashing regularly. Then I read tournament strategy and figured out jam strategies when your stack gets to around 10-12 big blinds and my win rate skyrocketed. You would be amazed at how many people out there still do not understand how to play the late game in tournaments. They will hold on to the last chip for dear life as the blinds eat them alive, then curse the poker gods when they bubble out.
Pro tip: always make sure the shit you’re losing your shit over is important enough to lose your shit over that shit.

There aren’t any definitive or thorough studies on this subject — just a multitude of articles from sources with various degrees of credibility and knowledge of actual details of the events. The teachers are not likely to be well versed in the subject especially when the information is rapidly changing on a daily basis. Given the current battles over what should be taught about struggles of the past two centuries, you are putting teachers in firing line over history that has not been written.
