Bullshit. OSHA requires tempered water for handwashing after wiping your ass. E.coli is not an occupational disease “per se”.

Manchin has some nice sounding theories about how the filibuster is a good thing.

All these theories are ruined by the ugly fact that dealing with Republicans is impossible.

But see, that’s apparently the Dems’ fault for not trying hard enough, I guess? After all, Dems are responsible for everything, ipso facto they must be to blame for Republicans being an unassailable, unmoving monolith, and Dems being less than a similar unmoving monolith. Because reasons. And because fuck you, only Republicans deserve to have a say in this country, because Real America.

My brother brought over the oranges, but in the process I might have exposed him to whatever crud I have. I was in bed and calling my extremely stubborn cat to come join me and she wouldn’t come. So after about 20 minutes (not constant calling) I went downstairs to see what she was up to. I got halfway down the stairs when she showed up at the bottom of the steps. I said out loud, “well, I’m halfway down the stairs, I probably should just go and check to see if he brought the oranges”. So I walked to the front door and he was JUST DROPPING OFF THE ORANGES at my front door. Ffffffffff!

I now have a bag of lovely oranges.

I think I’m going to write a novel that begins: “If an author put these characters in a novel and assigned to them the stupidity and cupidity they will demonstrate, gave them the affectations herein, it would not get beyond this sentence at any respectable publishing house, assuming there is such a thing, in the English-speaking world.”

I was lucky enough to get a combination of right letters that forced me to go process of elimination, because there just weren’t a lot of words that made sense otherwise. That said, it took me a good 15-20 minutes of that between my 2nd and 3rd guess because it stalled me so.

let’s not go fully hyperbolic here. The supreme court isn’t saying a mandate wouldn’t be a good idea. They’re saying OSHA is not the body that should do this. It should be congress. The fact that congress is beached on a rocky desert island at the moment isn’t really the court’s concern.

Bernie just has to complain:

WASHINGTON (TND) — As Democrats confront increasingly grim poll numbers and pivotal midterm elections loom, Sen. Bernie Sanders cautioned this week that the party is on the wrong track and it risks losing the support of the working class if it does not change its trajectory.

“I think it’s absolutely important that we do a major course correction,” Sanders, I-Vt., told The Guardian. “It’s important that we have the guts to take on the very powerful corporate interests that have an unbelievably powerful hold on the economy of this country.”

The remarks from Sanders, a democratic socialist who was runner-up for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020, come as President Joe Biden’s public standing falters and the party struggles to mount an effective midterm campaign message. A new Quinnipiac University poll shows Biden’s approval rating at 33%, and Republicans hold a slim advantage on the question of who voters prefer to see control Congress.

Economic concerns have grown as consumer prices have risen over the last year, and voters are skeptical of Biden’s handling of inflation and jobs. As Democrats push major progressive policy reforms, voters doubt the party’s leadership is focused enough on the issues that affect them most.

Meanwhile, some Republicans have sought to reframe their party’s agenda as one dedicated to advancing the working class, and former President Donald Trump made significant gains with blue collar workers. Unless Democrats can offer a more appealing alternative, that shift poses a serious threat to the party’s ability to remain in power.

“It is no great secret that the Republican Party is winning more and more support from working people,” Sanders said. “It’s not because the Republican Party has anything to say to them. It’s because, in too many ways, the Democratic Party has turned its back on the working class.”

It should be noted that “The National Desk” is a Sinclair Broadcasting fabrication.

Fucking Supreme Court…

WASHINGTON (TND) — The Supreme Court Thursday put a halt to the Biden administration’s vaccine-or-test requirement for large businesses.

The court is allowing a vaccine mandate for most of the health care workers in the U.S. to proceed. After the ruling, the White House said its mandate for health care workers will save lives and will be enforced.

“At the same time, I am disappointed that the Supreme Court has chosen to block common-sense life-saving requirements for employees at large businesses that were grounded squarely in both science and the law,” President Joe Biden said in a statement.

The lawsuit challenging the business mandate successfully argued the mandate Biden administration overstepped the authority of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration by seeking to impose a vaccination requirement. More than 80 million workers would have been impacted by the mandate.

“OSHA has never before imposed such a mandate,” the court’s conservatives wrote in their opinion. “Nor has Congress. Indeed, although Congress has enacted significant legislation addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, it has declined to enact any measure similar to what OSHA has promulgated here.”

Every day that ticks by that Biden did not at least attempt to stack the SCOTUS will be felt for years…decades to come.

Rest assured, one of the first things a Republican winner in 2024 will do is stack the Court to eliminate any doubt. 3-5 new Justices all solidly aligned with the most right wing agenda will be appointed to rectify any problems with suspect members appointed by previous Republicans.

From what I’ve heard, Hunter’s own memoir details same. Not to downplay the pain that he caused his ex-wife. But by his own account he was what addicts are in the throes of addiction: selfish and shitty; but also redeemable through recovery and hard, hard work.

True, but it is also true that any attempt to deal with SCOTUS would be extremely likely to backfire in view of the GOP-leaning media and fickle electorate.

Regrettably the only path I can see for SCOTUS reform is to see if their upcoming awful decisions really lead to a backlash that is strong enough to drive reform.

There was no way to stack the court. How were they going to get agreement from the devious 2 on stopping a GOP filibuster? They can’t get their buy-in on voting rights; there is no way to get their support on expanding the Supreme Court.

Or have 2 justices leave for whatever reason. For example, Alito and Thomas forced out because of proof that they were part of the sedition.

That business in that thread about her thinking that Republicans would prefer her to Trump in an election is peak batshit insane.

Especially when she thinks this miracle will happen because she’s a centrist. Republicans despise centrists, and see them as the useful idiots for the right that they are. In any contest between a centrist and a real Republican, Republicans will always vote for their own.

It’s actually somewhat interesting to consider alternate history scenarios that lead to acceptable US politics in the 21st century.

More helicopters on the Iran rescue mission leading to Reagan’s defeat in 1980 is a plausible turning point.

Maybe; maybe not. We were in the middle of an economic crisis that probably would have led to Carter’s defeat.
