Colbert: Oath Keepers Charged With Seditious Conspiracy; We’ve Peaked as a Country

Stephen’s faith in the Justice Department was restored today when ten so-called Oath Keepers were charged with sedition for their participation in the Jan. 6th attack. In covid news, experts think Omicron has hit its peak in the United States, with case numbers on the East Coast already starting to fall. #Colbert #Comedy #Monologue

AP: Ferris State University professor on leave after bizarre video about grades
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan professor has been placed on leave after he told students in a profanity-laced video that he randomly assigns grades before the first day of class.

Barry Mehler is a 74-year-old instructor at Ferris State University in Big Rapids.

He told students in the video: “I don’t even want to know your name. I just look at the number and assign a grade. That is how predestination works. … Take your complaints to God.”

In the 14-minute video, Mehler calls students “vectors of disease” and says they don’t need to attend class in person.

I’m not so sure I agree with him. Yes, it does seem unlikely that Trump would directly conspire with the Oath Keeper goons, but this isn’t just a random militia group, either. They’re very connected in Republican politics, and have been worming their way into government agencies for years. It’s a mistake to see them as just a bunch of clowns.

I also don’t think Trump would necessarily directly conspire with the Oath Keepers. However, I disagree with Dunford’s premise in that I think the commanders at the Willard Hotel were definitely in touch with the Oath Keepers, and were well aware of their operations. Whether they apprised the President of these operations, or passed feedback from him to them, will have to come out later.

When you get a couple letters and have no clue what the rest should be, a good strategy is to choose a word you know is incorrect but has many unused common letters to help narrow it down.

And start with guesses favouring (favoring) the most frequently-used letters in English. ETAIONSHRDLU

Hub and spoke conspiracies.

Rhodes and Stone are a spoke and hub. Stone gets you to Trump directly and personally.

It’s not a big reach to go there, not when there’s video from 1/6 where Oath Keepers were in Stone’s company providing “security”.

Security from what? From who? They’ll say it was antifa and BLM, but the reality is that Stone was a go-between for Trumpworld and unsavory types all over. Stone is a dirty tricks guy. Manafort is another one of those dirty types guys.

Make no mistake here, this isn’t confined to just OathKeepers.

A personal best today:

My strategy as well (sorta): the problem is that while those letters are the *most* common, using them - or five of them - as a starting guess throws in the chances of other common letters - “C”, “P” or “W”, frex -being in the answer word, and thus sends the odds of an “early”/”easy” solution higher. Which, of course, is what makes Wordle so much fun: challenging, but not insoluble…

Iirc, because of the tensions with Russia, the Swedes reactivated the Swedish Army’s “Gotland Regiment” just a few years ago.

And the town of Visby reminds me of the medieval battle there between the local rural militia and a Danish force of professional, veteran and mercenary knights. (Note - the rural militia got massacred.) It is notable because of the large amount of archeological evidence (from the battle and often quite gruesome) found.

en.wikipedia.org

I visited Visby once: “The City Of Roses and Ruins”, they call it: that big battle that killed off their trade (and prosperity) was in 1361, and they never recovered: there are still huge stone walls around part of the old town, and the remains of large stone churches that were never rebuilt.
The best part of the Visby story that I heard, though, was the (?legend) that after the town fell to the Danish King Valdemar IV Attedag, the King had a bunch of huge barrels rolled into the town square, and ordered the people to fill them all up with tribute. Which, somewhat to his surprise, they did. Supposedly, after the swag had been loaded onto a ship to take it back to Denmark, the ship sank within sight of Visby Harbor: but, AFAIK, the treasure has never been recovered.
Visby is on Gotland: an isolated island in the middle of the Baltic: the Swedes must really be worried if they are militarily reinforcing there….

Yellow merely means this letter occurs in the word elsewhere.
So in your example, 🟩🟩⬜⬜⬜.
In the reverse case, where ABOUT is the word and you enter ABBEY:🟩🟩🟨⬜⬜
On the keyboard, B would just be green.

Washington (CNN)The US has information that indicates Russia has prepositioned a group of operatives to conduct a false-flag operation in eastern Ukraine, a US official told CNN on Friday, in an attempt to create a pretext for an invasion.

The official said the US has evidence that the operatives are trained in urban warfare and in using explosives to carry out acts of sabotage against Russia’s own proxy forces.

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said the Defense Department has credible information indicating Russia has “prepositioned a group of operatives” to execute “an operation designed to look like an attack on them or Russian-speaking people in Ukraine” in order to create a reason for a potential invasion.

The allegation echoed a statement released by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense on Friday, which said that Russian special services are preparing provocations against Russian forces in an attempt to frame Ukraine. National security adviser Jake Sullivan hinted at the intelligence during a briefing with reporters on Thursday.

Looks like Fairfax County Va is due for a winter storm Sunday afternoon and evening. 1-4” of snow topped off, like a maraschino cherry on a sundae, with a glaze of ice and 45mph wind gusts. Oh, the balmy gentle Southern breezes shall blow.

By Monday afternoon, the snow should have turned to rain and then stopped. Leaving no evidence of the storm beyond the flaming wreckage from the earlier follies.

Out of three Monday mornings in 2022, the DC region will have had snowstorms on all three. Let the entertainment begin.

And of course, per local custom, I will need to join the throngs at the grocery store to chant the ‘Snow Mantra’: “Bread, Milk, Toilet Paper”.

White Privilege Baby!

As crews cleaned the US Capitol on January 7, 2021, the phone lines in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office began to ring.

Rioters were calling “asking whether there was a lost and found because they forgot their phone there, or they left their purse or what have you,” Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., told Insider on Friday.

Police officers quickly took down information from the callers, Raskin said.

“The officers quickly got on the phone and said, yeah, just give us your name, your address, your social, you know, and we’ll tie up these loose ends,” Raskin said. “But what’s so fascinating to me about that there really were people who felt as if they had been summoned to Washington by the president.” Business Insider
