Here’s an unexpected cover from this amazing band. It took me a little while to remember who originally did this song.

Punch Brothers perform “Pride of Man,” from the album, ‘Hell on Church Street,’ out now on Nonesuch Records: smarturl.it

Video directed by Alex Chaloff

GOP rules apply. IOKIYAR.

What’s Bernie doing to convince Manchin and Sinema to get on board with doing the things Democrats want to get done: BBB and Voting Rights?

Filibuster changes are an integral part of the history of the filibuster, and it’s still a BS measure meant to thwart civil and voting rights for persons of color to this fucking day.

End the filibuster and enact the laws we need before the GOP gets in power and ends the filibuster entirely to give them unlimited power to wreck the nation and enrich their billionaire backers.

On the subject of music, the intro song to Peacemaker turned out to be - much to my surprise - not a song from the 1980s era of hair metal, but a song from 2010 by a Norwegian band called Wig Wam. Sort of hair metal homage.

Youtube Video

One of those real earworm sort of songs.

Hrmm…thinking a bit harder now, IIRC he did write it in response to riots in Detroit or something?

That’s just about possible with “three sisters” planting, no meat. The problem is doing it year after year after year without a crop failure, drought, disease, pests, floods, storms, hailstones, unseasonal frosts etc. When things go wrong you starve.

Most American ideals of “off-grid” living involve regular deliveries from Amazon and enough of a roadway to civilisation that the propane truck can get up to your location twice a year to keep you from freezing to death in winter. Oh, and don’t get sick or break a leg or otherwise incapacitate yourself, and don’t grow old and feeble.

Sad reality to consider: While the media won’t identify the female officer, by now every cop in the department has been told (probably by the raging asshole) about who she is and what went on. And the story likely being told is not that she intervened to put a stop to what was about to become a case of excessive force.

Yup, subsistence farming. (Grown just for the farmer and his family.)

That means dropping out of the cash economy. No ability to buy diesel fuel or repair parts. Or the vinegar, or bottles required to preserve food for storage. Get sick or old and they can no longer work land. If they had any land, they have to sell it to survive for a little longer. Aka rural poverty.

I knew of a bunch of folks from my grandparents’ generation who couldn’t get out of the rural poverty trap. Anyone who grew up in rural areas probably remembers folks on the margins. There was always a bit of sharing with them. But also often they were ostracized because of concerns that they might drag one’s own family/support group down through the very thin margin of survival.

These are the sort of knobheads that Glenn Beck was selling “heirloom seeds” and gold coins on the assurances that civilization was gonna end “any day now” and they needed to be prepared to ride it out. The ones that the “End Times” assholes regularly prey upon with “emergency food” buckets filled with instant mashed potatoes and dehydrated beef stew. We’re not talking the “doomsday preppers” who have a bomb shelter in the backyard with enough supplies to last (maybe) two weeks, we’re talking the ones who think some canned veggies and a hunting rifle is all they need to get through a winter.

IOW, we’re talking the ones who are gonna be shooting their neighbors over a dented can of onions a month after shit goes down.

Which means he’ll have plenty of time to poison the well, telling everybody who will listen that “it’s all political,” that they took her side over his because “she’s a woman,” and play upon that victim mentality ingrained in cops these days to convince them that “if they can do this to me, then they can do it to you.”

Just from the clips we’ve seen, I’m gonna guess he’ll find plenty of willing listeners in the department. There’s several cops there before his roid raging ass shows up, yet she’s the only one who stepped in to stop him and none of them seemed to do a thing to stop his assaulting her. Either they thought he wasn’t doing anything wrong or they’re too scared of him to speak up.

Political Tats on Cops should mean no job. If I was a Chief, I would require Officers to have their tats cataloged just like they do to gang members.
I see a lot of these bald headed fucks here in Texas with full sleeves all the time. Drop the uniform and put them on a Harley with Colors and what do you have? Another fucking MC gang member.

Another thing is Cops need to be rotated off the streets every 2 years to desk and training duties (along with counseling) to name a few.

Sad reality to consider: While the media won’t identify the female officer, by now every cop in the department has been told (probably by the raging asshole) about who she is and what went on. And the story likely being told is not that she intervened to put a stop to what was about to become a case of excessive force.

I’m hoping she doesn’t end up like Frank Serpico. Stuck in a door while his ‘back up’ waits for someone they’ve alerted to shoot her in the face.

Yup, my first thought was also ‘roid rage.

My guess is for the chief to ‘administrate’ him out of the department.

If that doesn’t work, then the next question is whether the DA office will prosecute him for misdemeanor battery/assault. With the sergeant being on administrative leave.

The guy is clearly trouble. And walking liability, both financially to the city and to the DA office trying to prosecute people he arrests. As well as endangering every other cop who works with him.

In the DC region are tens of thousands of police of various stripes as well as attorneys, and politicians and judges. There is a group of them who glory in welding power, or threat of power, over other jerks, as well as the occasional hapless passerby.

Occasionally one hears stories of one asshole picking a fight with an even bigger, or at least better prepared, asshole. I seem to remember a local off-duty federal police type ?FBI? who picked a street argument with someone who was a faster draw.

Having spent a great deal of time on history Youtube recently, this is just like white archeologists dealing with Subsaharan Africa sites: it’s not about what actually happened, what the evidence can demonstrate, it’s that the past must conform to the political narratives of the present’s hegemons.

Madzimbabwe has to be Egyptian because modern Africans are primitives that need colonization; DC has to exist and be “loyalist” because modern DC has to be dismissed as fundamentally un-American.

Counterfeiting the past is a long tradition, it’s own kind of historiography.

I keep telling my brother (who has been sinking a significant proportion of an accident settlement he got a couple of years back into gold coins with the expectation that the SHTF) that you can’t eat gold and he’d do better to stock up on provisions and then cook and use and rotate through said provisions.
